Solved: mysql connection using ODBC fails with error SQL_IM002

Q: Solved: mysql connection using ODBC fails with error SQL_IM002

Mac OS X 10.6.1
perl 5.8
mysql 5.1
Installed ODBC connector: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/5.1.html#macosx-dmg
I am trying to connect to a mysql DB using the perl API.

The connect command looks like this:
$dbHandle = DBI->connect("DBI:ODBC:gfr:localhost", "gfr", "gfr");

It produces the error:
DBI connect('gfr:localhost','gfr',...) failed: [iODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Driver could not be loaded (SQL-IM002) at x.pl line 30
error = [iODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Driver could not be loaded (SQL-IM002)

I'v done hours of rummaging around the web to find a solution but to now avail.

In desperation I executed the following "find" command:
cd /
sudo find . -name "*odbc*" -print

It produced the following output (only relevant part shown):

One by one I added the following "use" statments to the test script:
use DBI;
use lib "/Library/ODBC";
use lib "/usr/bin";
use lib "/usr/lib";
use lib "/usr/lib/pkgconfig";
use lib "/usr/local/bin";
use lib "/usr/local/lib";
use lib "/Users/andynic/Library/ODBC";
use lib "/usr/local/share";

All produced the error shown above.

Don't know where to turn next.
Would appreciate any ideas anyone can offer.

Thanks for your help.
The full test script:

use strict;
use DBI;
use lib "/Library/ODBC";
use lib "/usr/bin";
use lib "/usr/lib";
use lib "/usr/lib/pkgconfig";
use lib "/usr/local/bin";
use lib "/usr/local/lib";
use lib "/Users/andynic/Library/ODBC";
use lib "/usr/local/share";

# use DBD::ODBC;
# use DBD::mysql;
our $GCdbUn = "gfr";
our $GCdbPw = "gfr";
our $GCdbSchemaName = "gfr";

my $dbHandle = "";

print join "\n", @INC;
print "\n\n";
$dbHandle = DBI->connect("DBI:ODBC:gfr:localhost", "gfr", "gfr");
# $dbHandle = DBI->connect("DSN=mysql;UID=gfr;PWD=gfr;DATABASE=gfr");
# $dbHandle = DBI->connect("DBI:ODBC:$GCdbSchemaName", $GCdbUn, $GCdbPw);

Preferred Solution: Solved: mysql connection using ODBC fails with error SQL_IM002

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Solved: mysql connection using ODBC fails with error SQL_IM002

By using a combination of the information at
and the link within that page under "these simple instructions" (http://www.truerwords.net/articles/osx/install_dbd_mysql.html)
I managed to get DBD working instead of ODBC. That is sufficient for me.
I did the above with one difference. I used a later version of the latest non-beta DBD module.

We are moving an old Access project from XP too Windows 7 32 and .Net.

However there is something wrong with Windows 7! When I try and create an ODBC link via ODBC Administrator to allow the software to access data tables on SQL Server on the Windows 2003 Server it just keeps producing a message saying the TCP/IP port does not exist or access is denied.

Having tried the same experiment with an XP computer it worked fine, no issues, but Windows 7 strangely doesn't???

The SQL Server is on standard port 1433, I tried turning the firewall off in Windows 7 but that made no difference, when installing Windows 7 and connecting it too the network it complained it needed a DNS address so I put one on the server and set that in the Windows 7 client.

The XP client never needed one, could that be linked to this odd issue?

My first experience of Windows 7 this is and it seems like Microsoft have struck again by taking something that works and making it unnecessarily difficult...

Of course I could be wrong

I have a server running linux with Apache and MySQL. now I am trying to create an ODBC link through my XP machine. I have installed the ODBC driver and everything.

i am trying to create a system DSN connector. At the stage where it asks me about servername password, user, etc... I just cant figure out what to type in server. Should it be the IP address or anything else behind it. Because when I used the IP it says

[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]#HY000Host '88-106-153-88.dynamic.dsl.as9105.com' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server

any ideas? Thanks

A:Connecting through ODBC from Win XP to Linux MySQL Server

Well all I know about is MS SQL server and its on the domain but I usually use this type of method -

With linux I would think you should just need to type in the machine name.

Also with this setup is this all local or is this across the internet?

Hello and thank you for reading my post.

My software creates MySQL ODBC System DSNs...
... except it doesn't work with Windows 7.
It used to work with the previous Windows OSes including XP, Vista.
I've been struggling the whole day trying to find a solution.

*** I believe UAC (User Account Control) has something to do with this.
But I can't disable it as my customers have it usually enabled.
How can my application be allowed to create MySQL ODBC System DSNs and as a "normal" user?

*** The MySQL ODBC connector I have installed is:
and I have installed it logged as "Administrator".
(I also installed my application logged as "Administrator").

*** The MySQL server is on localhost for now... (that is to say on the same host as the application).

*** I've already updated the "Target" in the "Shortcut" tab in "Data Sources (ODBC) Properties" to "%windir%\syswow64\odbcad32.exe"
so that the "Drivers" tab is properly populated, including "MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver".

*** Logged as "Administrator" (which shouldn't be of course: this account is disabled by default, I enabled it for testing reasons), MySQL ODBC DSNs are created but they are empty:
- only the "Data Source Name" field is not;
- the "TCP/IP Server", "User", "Password" and "Database" fields are empty.

A:Windows 7 - MySQL ODBC System DSN creation

Most likely yes, UAC is the cause of the problem. Changing system DSNs naturally requires administrator privileges and therefore CANNOT be done by normal users, UAC or not (UAC makes this worse by converting admins to normal users under the covers). But it's the normal, expected behavior, as regular applications aren't supposed to messing with global DSNs, and only elevated ones are allowed. Respecting that is the whole point of the admin/regular user distinction. You app seems to be abusing its administrative rights on pre-UAC systems.

First, as a side note, I think using DSNs is a bad programming practice, as it ties the database access to something not entirely manageable by the app itself. I would store the server/database/user/password somewhere else, where you know, and build a connection string from it at runtime and use that to connect, therefore forgetting the problems of DSNs. Such refactoring may be easy or complicated, depending how is the program made, but in the long run I think it's the best solution.

If you want to continue use DSNs, then at some point you must elevate the app to allow such change. I guess that the DSN is changed from a configuration screen somewhere where the user chooses the database, then the whole program simply uses that.
The idea is to create a second executable program and manifest it as "require administrator" and make that program make the changes, after UAC prompt. The main one can call that second passing the data t... Read more

I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the correct area, but please let me know and I will move to appropriate forum.

I have a application I use that connects to a default ODBC connection "Connection1" which is the production enviroment. I want to create a shortcut on my desktop to point to the TEST enviroment so I don't have to go through and change odbc settings all the time. I added a SQL Server connection under System DSN "Connection2" which point to test database. In the shortcut properties I added to the end of the Target location "-oConnection2" so it looks like this:

C:\programfiles\app\app.exe -o"Connection2"

I saw this setup at another location and trying to set it up on my workstation. I know it's something simple i'm missing. Any help or direction would be great.

Hello everyone
Ok, So here is the deal. I have a My SQL database that is being used with a Access 2003 front end. Its using the MY SQL ODBC driver and a User DSN. I have to deploy this front end to about 200 people and don't want to visit each computer to do so. I need to install the drive which i have built a script to do, and i need to create a DSN. How do i create a User DSN or a system DSN with a batch file with a script. I tried to use a File DSN,Which would have made my life easy as i could just have copied that file to all the computers, But it promoted the user to log into the database when a form is open. Which is no good. Can anyone help me?

I've installed and configured Apache 2.0.49 and mysql 4.0.18, configured for php, and configured the database using phpmyadmin 4.3.77 on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. I'm using a linksys DL-604 on a lan.

When I connect to phpmyadmin on the server, there's no problem. When I connect to phpmyadmin from my work machine with xp pro, either with Mozilla, or IE, I can log in, but can't do anything once there. I also get access denied when I'm trying to set up the mysql database connection in Dreamweaver. Passwords are set, and I'm using them. I've made certain that the passwords match. I can only see the default test database connection as available in Dreamweaver. It's StudioMX I'm using, but not StudioMX 2004. Even though I've created the database, the user, and password, I'm denied access, but as I said, the test database is accessible. That seems to narrow it down to being a mysql problem.
Has anyone experienced this before?

A:[Solved] mysql/phpmyadmin database connection problems

there are pemissions not only as to who can connect, but where they can connect from. Look into the mysql permissions for the host setting. That tells you what IPs a user can connect from. My guess is that you don't have permissions to connect from any machine other than the one that works.

When I am testing an ASP page by Dreamwaever, I encountered an error about my IIS or PWS:

OLE DB Provider error for ODBC Drivers error 80004005
[Microsoft] [ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source Name not found and no default driver specified.

I went to the Knowledge Base at Microsoft site and pull out an article (190006).

My question is that my os happens to be Window 98II and their suggestion seem to be for WindowNT.

How to resolve this. Any help will be appreciated!!!

The following is an excerpt from the article:

The Global.asa file is not located in the root directory of the application.
To determine if a directory is designated as an application root and verify that it also contains the Global.asa file, perform the following steps:
1. In the Internet Service Manager (ISM), verify that the node is configured as an application.

To do this, verify that the node displays the package icon in the ISM. To further verify, view the property sheet for that node. On the Virtual Directory tab, under Application Settings, an active name should be listed for the application. If the name is "Default Application" and it appears dimmed, the node is NOT an application.
2. Verify that the Global.asa file is located in the root directory of the application.

To determine the root directory of the application, view the property sheet for the application. Check the Local Path setting on the Virtual Directory tab.

You guessed it I am trying to get your attention. Until recently I have done quite well solving business problem using Excel, However my next project is to replace a paper based quality control system with a software solution that I can run off a Palm Pilot or similar device. Let me explain:

1) the receiver has to receive ingredients and log vital statistics on a form, - how much, what it was, the lot number, the carrier, etc

2) the formulator has to select certain ingredients and make a product, here again a paper record tracks, lot numbers, ingredient names, etc

3) the QC person has to check the product during manufacture and record vitals such a lot Number, temperature, colour. Texture, etc
4) if something does wrong and we have to recall a product we need to know - what was produced, where it went to, quantities, how many products are impacted, etc.

I want to build a database with the appropriate forms, report generation capability and product traceability (product recall) capability.

I am told Excel is not the product to use and the name MySQL and Access has been mentioned. Problem is, at this time I do not want to use the web; I simply want an internal system that is fast, effective and reliable.

Maybe you understand the essence of my application (food quality control) and can offer some ideas.

Hello, since the other day, my DSL connection continues to fail on my desktop PC but it is working on my netbook which I'm using right now, hooked towards my monitor.

I have tried everything I could to fix it. I ran the troubleshooter, unplugged my network cable, reset the adapter, deleted and recreated my connection and it fails. It would show up ERROR 638. I even reformatted my PC and the network continues to fail. It did manage to connect for a few minutes earlier today and would just automatically disconnect a few moments later. It continues to fail in connecting right now. Could it be a physical hardware problem with my built-in LAN adapter?

I have a screenshot to help explain the situation and also a zipped diagnostic log which I have initiated after running the "diagnostics" link on the ERROR 638 message. Any ideas?

A:DSL Connection fails, Error 638

When this connection fails, the first thing that I would do is to go into Device Manager, expand Network Adapters, right-click on your LAN adapter, and check its status.

Is it still Installed? Working? Disabled? Any error condition? It does sound to me as if the motherboard's LAN adapter itself is intermittent or failing, as you suggest, or perhaps the cable is faulty.

I would also check the rear panel LAN socket indicator lights to see if they're lit and flashing like they should be, according to your mobo manual.

I'm running 2005 SQL server on Windows 2008 server. I have both Windows 7 and XP ODBC connections to the server. Everything was working fine but the server was running slow so I tried a windows update. The update made my ODBC connection go flakey, but only on Windows 7. Testing the connection would be successful, for several tests, then fail and you would have to reboot the workstation. I have both SQL server and Native Client. Now I am unable to create a connection with either. I've uninstalled the updates which hasn't helped. It seems like the update changed a security setting somewhere. Creating a new connection now fails with SQL state 08001 and server error 10060

I've developed a site www.kitkrazy.com using PHP, Access and an ODBC connection. It works very well ... most of the time.

Every now and again -- say every three months -- the site crashes, and I get the error message ...

Warning: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Too many client tasks.,

Most recently I got ...

Warning: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] System resource exceeded., SQL state S1001 in SQLExecDirect in E:\home\Default\kitkrazy.com\htdocs\include\topthree.php on line 15
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] System resource exceeded.

When I challenge the hosting company on this they always advise me to use a DSN-less connection. Well, it's got to the point where I'm thinking to myself, why don't I just go DSN-less and the hell with it.

So I took a look. And it seems that I'm going to have to rewrite all my SQL queries and database calls. Unless you know different ...

Is there a simple way to convert all my code from ODBC to DSN-less?

A:PHP: Converting from ODBC to DSN-less connection

You should probably convert to MySQL or a real database if you are having trouble with too many users accessing the database. You may also want to check all of your code to see that it is clean and you are closing all open object when the program is done with them. You will have the exact same problem with with a DSN-less connection and it will actually slow your site down. Rewriting the connection string is the only change you will need to make and if you use an include file for the DB connection string all you need to do is change one file.

I have two laptops at my company that have Windows 7 Home - thus cannot login to AD/Domain as a specific user. They in-turn use a local administrative account setup on those laptops. We have a database setup with linked connections to our SQL Server 2005.

We can bypass this issue by manually typing in the Login/Password within this error prompt.
What's strange is that we have ODBC setup to use the SQL Server Authentication:
That SHOULD allow us to not use Windows Authentication (as you can see it's trying to use the 'Guest' account on Windows 7. This used to work a few weeks ago and I don't know of anything we changed other than a few system updates.

The SQL Server's Security is setup to use both authentication methods:
Our SQL Server gives us an Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11

Sound like a Windows permissions issue to see the SQL server.

You could also map a network drive using other credentials. This will authenticate the computer onto the domain.

However, after installing the app. I encounterred an error on most of the pc (except mine) error shows that "Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers [ODBC Driver Manager] Driver does not support this function"

The installation procedure of this application in XP was just a typical installation setup except that after completely installing it, I have to change the .ini file and path it to the server.

Its also a mystery to me that my error is on ODBC since I am not using any odbc connection for this one.

I hope anyone can help me on this one. Thanks

I have ODBC set up to query data using an INI file, but when I connect remotely it errors out. What kinds of things should I check to see where the problem is.

I have edited the Host file to include the server ip

The setup uses an INI file for the definition file, the TCIP port and also a prefix, but I am not sure if any of those are an issue..maybe the Port ?

I would not normally use a password and one is not saved

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a PC and I am trying to set up the ODBC drivers to use with Crystal Reports. I ran CR on my XP machine and have the ODBC settings EXACTLY the same on both PCs. When I click 'Apply & Test Connection' in the ODBC Driver Setup window, it gives me the following error message:

Unspecified System Error = -11333
Unspecified System Error = -11356.[Informix][Informix ODBC
Driver][Informix]Unspecified system Error = -931. sqlerrm(idsgtne)

I have already tried to Disable User Account Access and turned off the Windows Firewall and my Anti-virus with no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Rich

I am trying to connect to my database from a company I use. However, I get this ODBC error 3151. They told me to look for the latest version of MDAC, make sure I am running a genuine version of windows, and check for any firewalls. I have done all of the above and still get the error. Any ideas?

to resolve the case.
Send user copy of
sqlsrv32.dll file
The registry entries a slightly different as those stated in the document.  (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;260558)
However I was able to match them up with those on a working windows 7 PC.  This seemed to do the trick

When I go to certain secure websites I get an error which reads.. "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error "80040e57"[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL server] String or binary data would be truncated. /Includ/utils.asp. line 902"

A:ODBC SQL Driver Error 80040e57

It's an error in the data you're trying to insert, not your code (since it's a SQL server error). Odds are that one of the fields you're trying to insert is too long for its matching database column's size (for example, sending a 35-character value to a database column that will only accept 25 characters).

Your options are: 1) increase the size of the column that's giving you trouble, or 2) somehow shorten the data to fit in the column.

We recently switched from Oracle 8 databases to Oracle 11g. I have an existing Access 2002 database with a report that runs off a schema in the Oracle database.

I created a new ODBC entry to link the tables in Access to the new Oracle DB, however I am getting an OBDC failure error when I try to link them in the link table manager.

Is there anything I need to do, download new drivers for example, to get the report to properly link to the tables?

I am getting this exact error message when I try to run any of the Office programs, IE, MS Project and probably some other programs.

"Error 1919. Error configuring ODBC data source:MS Access Database, ODBC error 6 component not found in this registry. Please verify that the MS Access database exists and that you can access it"

How do I verify and access the stupid thing? Nothing really triggered this, I just opened Project on time today, and ti all of a sudden asked me to insert the cd, and when I did, it loaded something, and then I got that error.

any ideas on what might have caused this, and how to fix it? Thanks

The computer I am having an issue with is running Windows 7 32bit. It is up to date. When trying to turn queries in Excel 2010 it gets an ODBC License Unhanded Error. The same file works in Excel 2000. I will attach the screen shots of the errors. Other testing I have done is put excel 2010 on an XP computer, and it worked there. I put it on another windows 7 computer that has a fresh install, and it still doesn't work.

Not sure where to look now or what is going on with these errors searched online and couldn't find anything.

When you installed the driver, did you remember to right-click and "Run As Administrator" to elevate your privileges?

Windows 7 uses the UAC (User Access Control) and user applications, including the Windows Shell, are then started with a restricted token, resulting in a reduced privilege environment even under an Administrator account. When an application requests higher privileges or "Run as administrator" is clicked, UAC will prompt for confirmation and, if consent is given, start the process using the unrestricted token.[5]

Running with restricted tokens can result in the registry not being properly updated during installation.

You might even try running Excel "As Administrator" and see if that works.

If it does, you probably need to re-install your driver.

Hello All,

I would check your stored procedure. The only reference to Qry I see is right here: oCmd.CommandText = "Qry-Get_Block" Is that supposed to be an underscore or a dash after Qry??

When an Access97 database was converted to Access2000, and error message:

You've obviously got a macro or other code in the database that saves the file through ODBC to an external file. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go to the Macros tab and see if you have any. Open them in design view and see if there is a file name listed in any of them.

I have developed a problem on notebook regarding doing a mail merge with an Excel file. It says that it cannot establish a DDE Link (or something very similiar to that) and then it defaults out of the pages. I have tried to re-install MS Office 2000 twice now, and it still has not corrected itself. Can one of you Office gurus give me a hand here on this one. This is a feature that I constantly need for work.

Thanks so much in advance...

A:Office 2000: Mailmerge w/Excel gives DDE Error. ODBC anyone?

Open your file and hit the Get data button. At the bottom of that dialog box should be a "select method" button. Click on that before picking your Excel file and then pick the Excel file.

If that does not help, you may have been on the right track reinstalling. I'm sure it's something with ODBC, but I don't know anybody who knows about this stuff (I'm going to reword your topic) and by the time we find out, you might as well have reinstalled it. So, if you don't want to wait, read on...

Also, never reinstall Office without first using Eraser. It's here:

I have a MS Word application which uses a DSN-less connection to access a remote SQL database and which runs properly under a 32 bit OS. However, on my Windows 7 x64 systems with Office 2010 (32 bit) I get the following error when running the application:

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.

I have done a bunch of searching, and have found a number of suggested solutions. The one which seems most likely to work is to install the Office System Driver Data Connectivity Components 2010.

Is this the best approach for solving the problem? If so, should I install the 32 or 64 bit version? If this is not the best approach, what would you suggest?

Thank you.

Warning: mysql_fetch_row(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/louissei/public_html/rotator/admin.php on line 350

Other than this error showing at the bottom of the page the script seems to be working fine so far.

These lines read:

$standard = mysql_fetch_row($result);
$premium = mysql_fetch_row($result);

The script is for a membership based site and these lines are referring to the membership type. If this error wasn't showing in the admin area I would supply a link but I'm not about to give out my password! LOL
