How do I give a specific computer FULL access to a Windows 7 computer?

Q: How do I give a specific computer FULL access to a Windows 7 computer?

Can some one tell me how to give a specific computer in our small network 100% full access to my Windows 7 computer? We have a windows NT based CNC machine(I'll call that the CNC) that is having a hard time communicating with my Windows 7 computer(I'll
call that the PC). When I had windows XP I easily found a spot to enter the IP address of the CNC and that seemed to do the trick but, in windows 7 there is about 8 zillion different options and I am not sure where to achieve what I am trying to achieve.
The folder the CNC needs to see, on the PC, is already shared. The CNC can access the shared folder but it forgets that it is available every time it is shutdown. The NT machine essentially sees it as a mapped drive. Every morning I have
to retell it where the drive is.

Preferred Solution: How do I give a specific computer FULL access to a Windows 7 computer?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well, prior to trying to somehow boot to windows on the CNC, I went
up into to rafters and restarted the router again.  This AM it
connected just fine.  Will be a few days before I know if it stuck.
If that does not continue to work,  does NT have a config.sys that I
can put that script in?

That script you put into the
"%systemroot%\system32\repl\import\scripts" directory (where
%systemroot% is probably "C:\WINNT"). Then you enter the name of the
script e.g. "Win7logon.cmd" into the script property of the user
running your applications on the NT CNC machine ( on the profile tab of
the user properties page [via the user management or computer
management mmc snapins]). Both things you can do remotely from the Win7
PC, if the NT machine's systemdrive is shared and the RPC service is
running on the NT machine.

dear you

i was wondering for those have have an internet with download speed of about 250 kb per sec is there a way to force skype to use it all i mean i can watch hd videos on youtube and cant have a stupid straight video chat on skype i dont use my webcam but i still cant get even pixelated video without it breaking and lagging and eventually dropping, its like download for example, downloading with the browser can be slow but if i use internet download manager, it takes full control of internet speed, full access and leaves nothing to the other programs , can that be done with skype?

me

A:Solved: is there anyway to give skype full access to internet with full speed

Youtube buffers video, a live chat isn't buffered.

If your internet speed is 256kb/s you need faster internet service.

See here for more info on internet connection speeds and how to see how much bandwidth Skype is using: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1417/how-much-bandwidth-does-skype-need

Hi,

The scenario is an office with multiple workstations, 1 ADSL fixed IP connection, domain member workstations peer-to-peer through a switch. The domain server is at a remote location. I want to RDP into a specific workstation. What I've been considering are the following - maybe/hopefully there is a better way.

1) Multihome the target computer so users can RDP direct to it but also be on the LAN. This should be fine but the problem is then how do the other boxes get an internet connection?

2) Install Windows Server on the target box or some other one in the office and use RRAS/VPN to connect.

Thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

A:Remote access to a specific computer on a LAN

Hello,

If you are thinking of having a Windows Server just to do remote access, you'll to configure Remote Desktop Services (previously known as Terminal Services) and buy CALS and can be very pricey.

It might be inexpensive to try business remote programs such as LogMeIn, GoToAssist, etc., more selections here. There's no need for to buy a server and the configuration is pretty simple.

I have a home office network with a main PC (Vista) and a laptop (XP) which share files and an internet connection via a Netgear WGR614 v6 router. All worked well until my eldest son bought himself a laptop with Windows 7. I wanted to give him access to the internet via the wireless network - but not to be able to read or file share with files on the main PC or the XP laptop.

I tried renaming the Workgroup on the main PC and XP laptop - but his Windows 7 laptop still seems to be able to access the shared files on both of the other computers.

I have since tried using the 'Deny access to this computer from the network' on the main PC, but I get an error when I try to add his laptop name to the list and the database won't update.

How do I still allow him to continue with his internet access but prevent him accessing the business files (whether by accident or intentional curiosity) on bit the Vista PC and XP laptop (while still allowing normal sharing bewteen the Vista PC and XP laptop)?

A:Limiting specific computer access to a network

Go to Network and Sharing Center on the Vista machine. There, enable password-protected sharing. Now, you will require the administrator username and its password to access any folder on that PC. I am not sure about Windows XP, but try the Properties on the shared folder(s) on that laptop. There surely must be something.

Hi again, everyone. I'm having some Access woes with which I have been unable to find help about around the web, as my circumstances don't seem to fit other reports of this problem. I get the dreaded:
The database has been placd in a state by user <name> on machine <name> that prevents it from being opened or locked.

Here's the kicker, its used actively by 2 users, when user 1 opens it, user 2 gets that error (or any other person that tries to get into the database), if user 2 opens it first (or any other user) then any and all users that open it up can use it without any problems.

Now, I don't have any plugins in use, no VB code getting data from other sources, or mail merges, or anything like that, everything in this database is internal. What I can't figure out is ONLY user 1's computer will lock the database and ONLY when she's the first to open it.

Any Ideas?

A:Access 2000 - Database Locked when opened by a specific computer.

See if there is a left-over <name>.ldb file in the same directory as the <name>.mdb file. the LDB file (Lock Data Base) is where Access keeps track of who has the file open, which record is being accessed, etc. The LDB file is supposed to get deleted with the database is closed, but if there is a crash or something weird then LDB file can get left behind.

If you find an LDB file just delete it and try again.

Hi. I have a windows xp home machine connected through ethernet to my dsl router. This is the machine that I want to share files from.
My laptop is running windows xp pro. Sharing files is easy, but I want to make it so that not just anyone who has access to my network has access to the shared files on the xp home machine. I'd like to give access to a certain remote user for certain directories. I've read that you can't do this with xp home but if you boot into safe mode(which I've done) you get the more robust interface with the myriad of permission choices. But I still can't figure out how to get it working, even from safe mode.
I tried creating an account on the windows home machine that's the same as the account on the laptop that I would use when I tried to access the directory and I tried giving permissions to that user, but it didn't work.
Is there a way to get xp home to play here?

A:Give specific permissions to windows shares on xp home/pro

By default, simple file sharing is enabled on most Windows XP-based computers. If simple file sharing is enabled, everyone in your workgroup has access to your shared folders. If simple file sharing is disabled, members of your workgroup cannot access your shared folders until you choose to share particular folders or drives with those users or groups that you select.Click to expand...

I got this from the Microsoft website. Unfortunately, you cannot disable simple file sharing on XP Home so herein lies your problem. I will search!

EDIT: I found this WIKI on how to disable simple file sharing for XP home.

It sounds legitimate (never had a problem with wikihow) but I personally have never tried it due to my lack of an XP Home machine. You can give it a try.

This is so annoying, I have setup a Windows 7 computer at a remote place and now I can't really access it.

It has the latest version of TightVNC installed but it only asks for password and then "gracefully closed the connection" (something like that).

Filezilla FTP server is installed and I have full R/W access to all drives incl C:, to this I can connect just fine.

No-IP service is running on it so I can find it's IP.

- Can I reboot the computer somehow?
- Can I restart the TightVNC service somehow?
- Can I install and run another VNC software?
- Can I activate a command shell, or windows own remote desktop?
- Can I run commands with FTP commands?
- Can I change or remove a Windows system file to make it reboot?
- Anything?

Some ports are open, such as some FTP & PASV ports, the VNC port, 990 might be open (but I disabled secure ftp features since I couldn't make it work).

Later this week my brother can reboot it manually but at this moment no one is at that place.

I don't want to shut it down, I need it rebooted or TightVNC restarted. Or somehow manage to connect to TightVNC (never had any trouble with TightVNC before but this was the last time I'm using it I'll say).

A:Need to reboot remote computer, VNC is denying access, I have full R/W FTP

1) If you don't have the correct username and password, TightVNC "gracefully closes the connection".

2) FTP doesn't include a "reboot the computer" command.

Got home from work on Friday and discovered someone using my PC via a remote LogMeIn session (my LogMeIn account). They were searching the filesystem for a keylogging program that I had found and disabled earlier that morning (OGB.exe - apparenly Ardamax Keylogger). I yanked out the network cable and changed all my passwords from a different computer; one that I'm pretty confident was not compromised.

I know... In hindsight, it was pretty stupid of me to leave the computer on and connected after discovering the keylogger Friday morning.

So... I was up way to late last night installing 123 Windows Updates, which, in total, took six hours to finish. That was way too long. I don't want to go through that again.

So I need some security advice on protecting my Windows 8.1 computer so I don't end up having to restore it to factory settings just to get rid of something bad that somehow got onto my computer.

I have been told in previous threads that all I would need for security would be Windows Defender, Windows Firewall, and MalwareBytes Free in terms of programs. In terms of add-ons for FireFox (which is the browser that I like and I like to use) I was told I should install AdBlock Plus, Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon, Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus, and NoScript.

I will also be installing the Web of Trust add-on as well.

Is this really all I will need? Was I told correctly?

Please keep in mind that I am pretty much working with absolutely no finances so I really cannot afford anything that I have to pay for to get/use. Which means my only options are to get stuff that is free but good.

If you could please just help me out here and tell me if all of this will protect my Windows 8.1 computer, or if I should add anything else, I would really appreciate it.

Because, like I just said, I don't want to end up going through 6 hours of Windows Updating again.

I'd really appreciate any help anyone here could give me.

Thank you.

You start off with listing the kinds of threats you'll encounter. First you should know the threats, then find the counter measures. Here is a list of threats:
. virus
. trojan
. botnet
. keylogger
. rootkit
. screen grabber
. phishing
. worm
. other malware like fake antivirus
. live hacker

Counter measures for virus are antivirus programs ( ESET, BitDefender, Avast, or Norton etc ). Antivirus counters trojans also. Generally, You are looking for best virus detection coverage. There are many antivirus programs to choose from. To help decide which one to buy go visit these 2 antivirus evaluation sites:
https://www.virusbtn.com/index
http://www.av-comparatives.org
It takes a bit of reading but read their reports. Then pick one that is consistently ranks among the top because the top most one will vary from season to season.

Note that antivirus firms take a strict definition of what a virus is and is not. And do not provide coverage for other types of non-virus threats. So for example if a program replicates itself and damages Windows, then it is a virus. But programs that record your credit card numbers and user account passwords are not viruses. And your antivirus program won't even blink.

Botnet enable a hacker's command and control center to remotely control your PC. Your PC can then be used to send spam or attack other computers. I don&#8217;t know what will detect and remove botnet clients but a good 2 way firewall with inbound and outbound protectio... Read more

You can redirect specific users My Docs folder to a network share. Then the files will not be stored on the local machine, and you can also include that network share in your daily backup routines. As for the other users, just leave their My Docs folder set to the default path, and their files will be stored on the local machine.

Appears you have some Backdoor /Rootkit infection..I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet as much as possible other than for cleaning. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.I think we should get a deeper look. I'm new to Windows 7.

I'm attempting to access an XP computer from a newly-set-up Windows 7 computer. I use the same user name and password on all six of my systems. I get a dialog box that asks me for the user name and password to access the XP computer. I enter the user name and password and click OK. I then get another screen that says enter network password. I enter the network password (which is different from the previous password) and it says "logon failure".

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

PING each remote computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. Open a command prompt as described above and type.

PING <ip address>
or
PING <computer name>

Where:
<ip address> - is the x.x.x.x IP address
<computer name> - is the computer name

A failure to PING is almost always a firewall configuration issue. Any failure to PING needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

Note: You can obtain the IP address and computer name of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG /ALL. This should work for any Windows version. The IPCONFIG /ALL display will provide a wealth of useful information for debugging your network connection.

I've got a total of six computers on my network - 2 running Windows 7 and 4 running XP. With the exception of one computer, all of the machines see each other on the network and can share files. One XP machine does not see the shared folders of my new Win 7 machine but does list it as a "workgroup" computer. When I try to access the computer itself I am prompted for a password. Passwords are turned off on the Win 7 machine and none of the other computers on the network get prompted for passwords to access this computer. I assumed that it was due to the setting on the Win 7 machine but they are all set for sharing with everyone on the network. Passwords are off. Firewall is off as well. The network name is consistent across all the machines. I've been unable to find any information on why just one computer on the network would be prompted for a password to access another computer on the netwoek. Any help would be great.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Option 1 - Verify that the password protected sharing is off from your new Windows 7 computer.

Option 2 - Turn off the new Windows 7 computer, turn off the XP computer. Turn back on the new Windows 7 computer, wait until it's completely up and running then turn on the XP computer.

Hello,

Im very sorry I couldnt be as descriptive as possible in my tittle description, I will do so in full now.

Last night a storm caused the power to flicker and then go completely off and on for a few minutes. Now during the boot up process on my fathers computer, I get a prompt screen from windows telling that due to a incorrect shut down I should choose a method of booting; safe mode, safe mode with networking, start windows normally.. (you know the rest of the gib) If I tell windows to start normally, it gets to the final booting phase showing the small blue progress bar, but the computer resets itself.

It also will not go into safe mode, nor safe mode with command prompt, no kind of safe mode what so ever. Essentially, the computer gets right up the point of finally kicking 100% and then a reset which brings me back through the normal booting process and to the choose a method of boot screen.

I upgraded my brothers computer to windows 7 Ultimate x86 from Windows XP x86 today.
The installation and updates installed fine, as well as other 3rd party software.
However, we've noticed after using the machine for a bit, it is freezing up hard. Explorer will show not responding and then the computer will lock up completely. No use of Task Manager, etc.

This seems to occur so far (and reproducible) when accessing a network node. So accessing my computer via network places to transfer a file, and connecting a USB flash drive to the machine. Doesn't matter which port is used.

One thing that I noticed was that the Wireless PCI card that was connected into the computer is not longer seen as its correct hardware device. It shows up in device manager as Ethernet Controller. But installing the driver manually or with the exe file, it will not be detected, etc.

Windows XP used this card just minutes prior before the format and install.

Maybe try to reinstall the chipset drivers for the motherboard. USB drives etc are run from those drivers, and the ones you (probably?) used are meant for Win XP perhaps. You can find the drivers on Asus' website, and try them to see if they maybe work.

Whenever I try to open a PDF file, I get the message that there is a problem with my Adobe Acrobat Reader. After clicking OK, I keep getting this message:

Windows cannot access the specific device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

which is under the heading of:

C:\Documents and Settings\Alfio\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\5JII7HDM?

The letters & numbers at the end (after "Content.IE5\" are not always the same.

I've installed and uninstalled the newest version of Acrobat, but still get the same result.

Someone suggested using a different program instead of Adobe's, which I will probably do, but I'm more concerned with the idea that the problem is related to my registry.

I also cannot download the Adobe Flash Player, so maybe it is just an issue with Adobe programs on my computer, but this only started happening after I had to get rid of some viruses on my computer. Everything else seems to be fine, with no more virus problems, but I don't know how to go about dealing with this permission issue.

Thank you.

I have some computers I'm currently just managing updates with Windows Update.  A computer will appear to be 'up to date' on patching.  However, if I run something like `wmic qfe list` or `Get-Hotfix` and I get a list of the patches installed
on the computer I will find that of the 9 or so listed for that windows build and time range in the Security Update Guide, only 1 or 2 will actually be installed.  I'm struggling to answer for compliance how I know all the patches that should be installed,
are installed, when the one source I've found for available patches seems to show I'm not up to date, but Windows Update seems to think I am up to date.  Thanks for the help.

Ever since installing Lightshot, which is a screen capturing program (I know others who use this, but the problem only seems to happen to me, so it's not a virus), the file which installs keeps asking me for administrator permission yet even when I do give it administrator permission nothing happens. I assume it's automatically opening itself... I've deleted the file where it came from (Temp folder) yet it still asks me for permission even after deleting it (from the same file location?), and it's really annoying as there doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of the said file nor block it from asking for permission.

I run Windows 8 on a x64 processor. Can anyone help me? If need be, I can give the exact file location.

A:A specific program keeps asking me to give it administrator permission hourly.

Just deleting a program is typically bad practice. Did you try uninstalling it first or check if there is a uninstaller program in it's files? It's probably to late to try revo uninstaller. That program works well with removing everyhing related to it even left over registry keys. Not sure exactly what process name is starting up asking you to run. You should be able to see it in task manager by hitting ctrl+shift+esc keys. it should open to processes tab. Click on the  name column at the top below the processes tab and it will catagorize everything into apps, background processes, windows processes. That helps determining what process group it is related to.

In the process tab you can right-click the running program and choose "Go to details" Note that it has highlighted the program in details tab. Write down the process ID (PID) right-click again and you have options to Open file location, go ahead and do that but do not delete any files just yet. Minmize the browser for now. Now right-click the service again & "Go to Services". What is the name and process description?

Good afternoon,

I would like to know if it's possible to give admin rights to a specific software for a user.
I have a user who uses HTC sync to sync with outlook.
Problem : it won't work unless he has admin rights
So I created a shortcut on his desktop with this :

C:\WINDOWS\system32\runas.exe /savecred /user:Administrator"C:\Program Files\htc\uhtcloader.exe"

This does open HTC sync as admin without prompting for the admin password.
That would do the trick for some other apps...

However, doing that opens HTC "as admin" which means it cannot find the user's Outlook profile.

That's why I wonder if it's possible to give admin rights to a software a different way that would use the user's credentials ?

thanks for your ideas...

A:[SOLVED] How to give admin rights to a specific Software

Hi sobersong,

Interesting environment, actually giving users the possibility to run administration applications without any special permission, but anyways :)

You have 2 options to solving this issue:

1. Set to run as AN administrator (Right click > Properties > Compability tab > Mark "Run this program as an administrator). It will then not be ran as the specific user "Administrator", but with admin Privilegies.

2. Set the security settings to Full Control on the application. (Right click > Properties > Security tab)

Should solve your issues.

EDIT:

While this is the Windows XP forum you state Windows 7 as your operating system. Solution 1 only works in Windows 7. Solution 2 works with XP though.

I have a home network implemented using workgroup. I want to share a folder on my vista pc with one other user over lan. I want to set it up like if that particular user clicks on the folder (under "Network"->"My PC"), he gets access, but if some other lan user clicks on the folder, it prompt for a password OR give any kind of error.
So far I have tried going to to-be-shared folder's security permissions and grant "Everyone" read persmissions, but then everyone over lan gets access to the folder contents. If I remove everyone, then that specific user I want to share folder with also gets blocked out. So far its all-or-none results for me. Someone suggested me to create a local account on my pc with the same username as the friend I want to share folder with, but thats little clumsy stopgap solution for me because then I would have to create a user on my pc for every person over lan who I want to share a specific folder with. Is there any other way to accomplish the desired results??

A:How to give file sharing permission to a specific user over lan??

there are a couple of ways you could make it happen but they all involve extra time and or money:
1) set up as NAS system some of the like the buffallo drive will allow you to create users to access network resources

2) use a open source ldap implentation to create a directory

3) set up a win srv 2k3/8 directory

without a directory there is no way to centerlly manage users and ressouces thats why setting

a cheap way would be if you have a extra pc and a large HDD you can?store all the profiles and shared folders on this pc

I'm getting my nephew a big present this year to make up for not getting him anything last Christmas, and I know he's been trying to get a gaming computer for a while. The link above is the best candidate so far, but I really don't know what I'm doing. Is this a good one? Reliable and whatnot? He told his dad that the games he most wanted to play were Diablo and Skyrim. I'd hope to find something that could play those two, but $580 is already a little extravagant - I wouldn't want to spend much more than that. Is this a good choice for the price range?

I could really use a quick answer, too. That might seem a little greedy given that I'm asking for free advice, but as you can see, it's already too late for this thing to arrive by Christmas day. I'd like to order it as soon as I can if it is the right buy.

A:Could someone give me their opinion on this computer?

Ive never heard of it. Maybe someone else can give you more information. The only gaming computers i know of are from dell and they are very expensive.

They did the following

Stress tested everything for long periods - no BSOD
Memtest overnight - No erorrs
Played games on it for hours - No problems
I gave them my mouse they put it in the USB - they said they got BSOD

So i thought they found the problem they sorted it said they had the machine stable I took it home turned it on no problems, needed to restart for an updated ....

BSOD

Then 6 more BSOD trying to get the computer to boot back up again with or without usb products plugged in.

I dont know what to do , this a brand new machine with seeming no errors but completely random BSOD's for no real reason.

I have uploaded the dump, I will try phoning where I got the PC from but I know If i take it there its not going to BSOD and they will charge me for looking at it

It has been windows 7 from new.

I figure I would want a Terabyte hard drive and at least a 19 inch LCD or LED monitor using a DVI connector running windows 7 but be compatible with most of the programs I am using now running Windows XP. I want to be able to transfer data from the old pc to the new one so I can easily pull up my old files but run the new computer using windows 7 as it is the latest operating system out there for Windows.

However, I'm updating (Yes, I realize I only got this PC in February/March

Let me know what your opinions are on the following..

Corsair XMS3 - Memory - 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB - DIMM

MSI 870A-G54 - Motherboard - ATX

AMD Black Edition - Processor - 1 x AMD Phenom II X6 1100T / 3.3 GHz - Socket AM3 - L3 6 MB - Box

I am hoping to get 16 GB RAM. 2 x 2 x 4.
Not right now though, Like I said, Tight budget.
I'm going to buy 8gb ram and the motherboard first I think, because they seem to be the cheapest.
Then when I have enough I will get Processor + another set of RAM..

(I'm a serious gamer/multitasker. could have over 50 programs open at once)

A:Can someone give me steps on how to reformat my computer

Hello bling101, Welcome to TSF!

Reformatting your Hard Drive is a pretty dramatic step to take because you have an infection from a 'trojan'; before you take "the plunge", try this....

Go here; read and follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, to here. (Just click on the coloured links.)

When you are carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just make mention of the fact in your post to The HJT Help Forum; an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Good Luck with it.

Kind Regards,

This webpage is not available
Google Chrome could not load the webpage because what.cd took too long to respond. The website may be down, or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.

I know it's not the website because other people I know can access them just fine.

but there is an even stranger problem. When I do a google search in the URL bar, usually it works fine. but when I include the words "torrent" or "what" in the search, the browser crashes the same way.
