Yoga 2 pro repetitive restart and won't boot

Q: Yoga 2 pro repetitive restart and won't boot

Turned on my laptop this morning. Worked fine. Went to try and use my printer to scan something to my laptop. Turned on printer and came back to my laptop not working. It is just turning on and off again. The power button and keyboard backlight just flash on and off repetitively. Tried searching forums for a solution. Heres what I've tried so far:Laptop not connected to power sourceUnplugged batteryUnplugged CMOS (CR2016) batteryPlugged laptop in and still getting same restart issue Ive tried holding down power button and small button above it to no avail. I also tried hooking it to power source with main battery disconnected and CMOS battery connected. Always same issue: repetitive restart with no boot. Printer has been turned off throughout the whole troubleshooting process but worked fine with the wifes laptop after mine pooped the bed. Anyone got a solution or idea?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Windows XP, as soon as it boots up and gets to the black Windows XP screen, the first graphical screen seen after boot-up, it says the system is not fully installed and then shuts down and restarts and does the same thing all over again, I tried re-installing the system from the restore CDs, but that didn't work, I also tried replacing the hard drive after removing the old one, because I though it may have been a disk error, but that didn't work either. I'm fairly sure its a BIOS virus, perhaps a variant of the Sasser worm, because it doesn't affect my non-Microsoft operating system and it doesn't matter which hard drive I use. There are a lot of virus patches out there, but since my computer won't start in the first place I'll need a bootable floppy or something of that sort, is there any way to fix this?
Then again, the restore CDs may be defective, but I would like to know for sure before I hand out 20 bucks for new ones.

A:[SOLVED] I think i post here, Help installing XP Repetitive Restart

I have XP Home so I don't know if that applies to your XP, but the installation may be about the same. There is a certain point after the setup files are copied that you get a message to Press any key to reboot from CD. DO NOT press any key and let setup bypass the boot CD. On this page it's at the 11th and 12th pictures.

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winx...exfullpage.htm

I'm not sure if that's what you mean by restarting and restarting. If memory serves, before I found out I should not "press any key" and I did as the screen said, it just started the setup all over again, and again, and again....

Two ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 TabletPCs will successfully boot into Windows 10 just fine from a hard poweroff.  But once in windows, if i choose Restart, it will hang at the "LENOVO" BIOS  level boot up logo with "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter".   Stuck at Lenovo BOOT BIOS initialization screen, right before handoff to the Operating System. "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" At this point, pressing ENTER does not work.CTRL-ALT+DEL causes the screen to change shade for a moment, but effectively does nothing.Changing the UEFI settings to diagnostics results in black screen.Holding the power switch to force a poweroff, waiting a few moments, and then powering on results in a successful windows startup.  DevMGMT.msc does NOT see bluetooth and there is "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" entry under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".  I have run all automatic updates via "Lenovo Vantage" and the manual TPM update.   I can boot into the firmware setup and have had it revert to factory defaults and reverted to factory defaults for all security settings.   I even tried the Win10 repair startup problems, but it says it cannot fix this.

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 does not Restart, requires hard power off. Stuck at Lenovo boot logo.

It looks to me like you have a faulty hardware issue or a serious driver issue. Try the Lenovo recovery to put the device back to the factory windows install. If that fails, I would think you have a hardware issue.

Hi guys,

Over the last week I've had issues with my desktop crashing to a black screen when surfing on Facebook (no other sites caused this problem) Each time this happened I had to reboot to remedy the problem.

It happened again this evening but the puter's thrown a major tantrum and doesn't want to let me back into Windows again.

It will get as far as the menu choices "Escape = Boot Menu F1= Setup F10= System Recovery", which admittedly only takes a couple of seconds, and then it restarts again.

I have tried pressing F8 and selecting Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Prompts but it still resets on me.

I don't want to have to reformat the HD as there's documents I would prefer not to lose.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I might be able to fix all of this?

Thanks in advance

Booting up with hmdi monitor, windows activates but does not display on monitor.
Result is blank screen with repetitive pings.  I suspect defective cable, and checking for secure  connectors to both monitor and computer there is still a blank screen an d repetitive pinging sound and eventually after some time later the windows login screen is displayed.

Hybernation was disabled, but when leaving computer on for extended periods it still indicates the computer is hybernating.  Screen saver is activated the computer still slips into hybernation.  Running HP Pavilion Elite e9240f.  Could this be a monitor problem, syncMaster 2220wm -- or a cable problem?  This computer was doing the same before installing a new boot drive and continues to do it now.  The reason I am inclined to think that the problem is a monitor problem or cable problem is that the sounds of activating windows log in screen is also heard when monitor displays black screen. The hdmi cable connecion on borh ends are locked and secure.  Plan is to replace cable first, next to test on a different monitor.  Cannot think of anything else to do.  I am curious if anyone else has encountered this problem..especially with the repetitive pings.

A:boot up results in blank screen with repetitive pings

When you say pings, does the computer beep? That's usually an indication of a major hardware issue: the CPU, the RAM or the video card is malfunctioning. More on HP beep codes here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07107&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=4006029#N414

Are you using the built-in HDMI adapter on the motherboard? If there are other video output ports on your computer, try using one of those. Or, install a new video card and driver and see if that resolves the issue.

All drivers and bios are up to date

Recently on two occasions my Yoga 920 has shut down after I got up and was no longer using it.    I was not on line and and the laptop should have entered sleep mode.     Windows 10 pro.   When I returned to the laptop, I could not restart it and on both occasions, the bottom felt extremely hot.  Not so hot that I couldn't touch it but much hotter than I've ever felt it before.  Certainly uncomfortablly hot if was sitting on your lap. After about 20 minutes it restarted and ran normally.    It appears that some action is causing it to run and overheat.   During the period when i could not restart it, I unplugged it from power and noticed that the small led on the power button was blinking.    I called Lenovo support after the second incident and have scheduled  to send it in for service.   I ran Lenovo Companion software and checked for updates but it says everything is current. Just reporting in case anyone else has seen this. Thanks.

Hello, We just purchased a Yoga 12 for one of our administrators in our district.  It has a core i7 proc, 256SSD, 8GB RAM, Windows 10 x64.  While it works fine most of the time, when the system restarts, it starts to load windows but the screen goes black.  None of the keys on the keyboards work.  The computer itself is powered on, but there is nothing on the display until you touch the screen.  The lock screen then comes up, but you still can't use the keyboard until you swipe up the lock screen.  I thought maybe some driver issue but the event logs aren't showing anything.  The laptop isn't in tablet mode. Any ideas about this? thanks, Michael

I've been looking around and found a few people who are very displeased with the logo startup/boot logo (example1, example2), but no way to change it as of yet. Is it possible without too much hassle? I know it's not a big deal but the logo is simply terrible in so many ways. If nothing, then at least I'm raising awareness and maybe Lenovo will choose a better graphic designer for our collective startup screens. I mean, seriously? Is that the best you could come up with?

Hello ! my pc acquired this very strange problem after I installed a new hard disk (wd raptor 74 gb):
Sometimes it boots up normally and sometimes it doesn't !!!
When it doesn't, it passes the bios post screen and hangs at the winxp loading screen (with the little progress bar continually moving but with no disk activity). At this point if I shutdown the pc from the power switch and fire it up again it will boot normally. If I press the restart switch the pc will give me an error msg that "NTLDR.EXE file is missing or corrupt" and it doesnt boot.
I am so frustrated with this problem coz I tried evth and nothing seem to work. I ve also checked in the internet but to no avail...

Hello yorgosp

When a problem arises always suspect anything new you have added /done.

Open the case and make sure all the connections for the new drive are OK

If it isn`t that get a can of compressed air and blow out all the dirt. Pay particular attention to the CPU fan. Make sure it is always coming on when you boot up.

Otherwise

Run chkdsk
Go to All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt. At the prompt type
chkdsk /r (there is a space before /)
Enter
Reboot

It could be some hardware with an intermittent problem. It could also be another attached component (drive, add-in card, etc.) that has an intermittent fault. Finding out which component is failing would allow you to replace it before any more serious problems occur

Check all the connections inside the case.
I once knew this to be fixed by replacing the hard drive ribbon cable.
Disconnect all peripherals and card except the video card.

If you have another machine, try swapping out anything you can as a test

Look here for errors

1. Right click My Computer / Properties / Hardware / Device Manager.
Look for "Yellow" errors

2. Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance / Admin Tools / Event Viewer / System.
Look for "Red" errors. Double click on error.
Take a note of the Event ID and also the Source and post them back.

2.Recently change mobo battery (worked fine immediately after change other than having to re enter bios boot order)
3.Shut down computer to sort cables behind. Switch off Power supply before pulling cord
4.Started having boot issues again. The following screen appears (sometimes the black one shown in attachment, sometimes blue with white text)
5.ctrl-alt-del on screen leads to successful boot (choice of OS comes up)

Hi phelly ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The IT guys may have also checked the BIOS if the SSD is being detected.
Usually reseating the M.2 SSD (page 36) from its location and placing it back assuring that contacts are ok can help as well as loading the BIOS defaults then restart.

If you would be having the same issue , I would suggest to call in technical support or have a representative in UK start a repair ticket for you and get their recommendation.

The very first boot of my Yoga 920 13 glass gave me an application exception during initial configuration.  See below.  I guess I don't need to highlight the irony of the background.  Anyone know what causes this?  Just poor testing? When I tried to boot my laptop up the next day, it acted even more strange.   When I logged into the main Windows screen (either via PIN or scan fingerprint), I got a black screen with a cursor...nothing else.  I waited up to 20 minutes, then tried multiple times to power on and off and the same cycle kept happening.  The login went nowhere.  I finally held down the power button until the machine fully turned off and then it worked fine when I restarted. Anyone else having these odd things happen?   It's a really poor first time experience.

This is a simple and apparently harmless issue, but I am curious. I will be upgrading to Windows 10 fairly soon.

Here's the question: Every time I use the Start/Shutdown menu to exit from windows, it goes off and downloads 2 updates, and I suspect that this is the same two updates every time. Or, perhaps there are so many updates to download that it will take some time for this process to end. In the past I have had on occasion large numbers of multiple updates download all in one exit session, so I know that it is possible for this to happen. Maybe Microsoft is just stuck in a rut.

OOPS: Forgot; I am running Windows 7 Professional SP1 on a 32-bit system.

This is driving me nuts. I have an emachine. Before that I had a computer made by a computer repair shop, Comp-u-save. The comp-u-save one was hit by lightning. I decided to get another computer. Someone suggested emachine, so I bought it.

The problem is there is this loud repetitive clicking sound coming from the CPU. As if something was being shut on and off, on and off. Both my emachine and compusave computers did the same thing. I have 2 hard drives in my emachine because I need the info on both hard drives. I also have an older hard drive that I thought I could attach to the computer from outside -- have not tried that yet.

Anyway, what is causing the clicking? Right now, I'm not having any other problems I can detect.

Kathy

A:CPU repetitive clicking

First off Hello and Welcome to Techspot.

There are quite a few possibilities as to the clicking noise.

1. It could be one of your Hard Drives. This would also most likely be along with Laggy or Error Ridden use when accessing the drive.

2. It could be a fan or rattling from a fan.

So is there any other symptoms from this clicking? Or is it just a noise?

My friend works for the alternative program at our local High School, they have about 3 computers out there on the network that she had to fight for but are naturally on the bottom of the tech departments priority list.
The stipulation to allowing the computers to be placed for use out there was that the VNC program was allowed to be placed on them for a trial run to see how it works for monitoring. Anyway, doing things on these computers is really tiresome as about every 15 minutes or so... sometimes way more often they freeze up requiring a system reset. I've been asked to diagnose the problem, without the tech departments help, and try to get the computers more stable. I'll try to get a working HijackThis log and anything else together that I can for you, but does anyone have any ideas what might be causing it?

My opinion is it is the VNC program, none of the computers out there had the stability problems until it was loaded and when the computer is run in networking safemode it doesn't seem to freeze at all (with VNC and most other programs disabled)...

OS is Win2k

As requested, here are the combofix and frst log files from my computer.

One of the computers in our office began exhibiting curious behavior yesterday afternoon.  While the user was in a word document, it would begin inserting ;E? followed by a carriage return, resulting in:

;E?
;E?
;E?

proceeding down the page.

If the active window is not something that can be typed into, then it instead beeps.

There are Occasional variances occurring, %E? also shows up, and occasionally there is no carriage return following the entry.  We left notepad open and overnight accumulated 25 pages of the entries.

We have run Malwarebytes, Combofix, RKill, TrendMicro virus scans, but after cleaning what they found, the problem still occurs.

We have also tried different keyboard and mouse combinations, and different USB ports to plug them into, but the input appears even with no user interface devices connected.  Swapping the original devices to another pc did not cause the issue to appear on the second pc.

Has anyone run into an issue like this before?  My search fu hasn't turned anything up, but that particular character string usually just brings up results of the letter E.

I have no other ideas please somone help me its driving me insane. P.S. Flash in my I.E. keeps going away I'm not sure if this has any connection to whats going on but I thought it might be worthy of mentioning.

szModVer : 5.1.2600.3099 offset : 0000a649

C program, how, int Repetitions(char *x), returns the number of repetitive substrings of x
aaaaa, returns 12
ababab, returns 4

A:repetitive substrings

ababab is repetitive, because it is (ab)^3. A string of the form w^n is said to be a repetition of w. Thus, abab is a repetition of ab, and so is ababab.
ababab contains two repetitions of the first ab, and one repetition of the first ba, and one repetition of the second ab, for a total of 4 repetitions.
use a C program function: int Repetitions(char *x), returns the number of repetitive substrings of x

Hi,

My computer is rebooting repeatedly, less now that it's been cleaned of most extra stuff. But now and then, computer just reboots with no apparent reason. Often there is couple or more consequtive reboots. It might be because of hardware issues, but I have added logs here just in case, if it is malware/Windows issue.

Thanks in advance !

Memory corruption probably caused by a driver. Please run these 2 tests
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

I'm running Win7 Business on a work network, Server 2003 w/ Active Dir. I work in the imaging business, and work off of directories stored on a SAN on our network. If I have an explorer window open to a folder, every few minutes the folder will automatically reload...during that time it appears my PC actually loses network connection. If I'm browsing the web all of a sudden a page won't load, if I'm connected to IRC it'll drop me from the server.

I'm using an integrated Broadcom Netlink Gbit card, and it is updated to the most recent driver. I have considered purchasing a PCI nic to see if it's an onboard nic problem, but honestly at home I run Win7 Ultimate and have the same issue happen. Repetitive events where my net connect just freezes for seconds at a time, and there I've switched to a PCI nic from onboard and it did not solve the problem.

Does anyone have any other ideas of what I could try? This didn't happen on my home machine all throughout Win7 beta/RC until I installed the release, and it happens on this machine right out of the box.

A:Repetitive disconnects

There are so many factors that caused your connection being disconnect repetitively.
Firstly, please check your connection, cable and also network devices.
Test ping from PC to server to make sure there is no problem with your network.

I keep getting two Windows updates on practically a daily basis. They are KB2676562 and KB2679255. These two updates download and install successfully every time. I've tried hiding them, but they just come back a day or so later. Maybe there are no other updates available, but I haven't gotten any other updates other than Microsoft Security Essentials virus definitions since late July. Ideas?

I get a message that Windows failed.
Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

It instructs me to insert the windows installation disc, restart, and run "repair your computer".  However, I did not receive an installation disc, only a utilities disk (which does not boot)
What do I do now?

A:Inspiron M5030 recovery boot issue. Recovery disk does full restore and starts Win7, which operates fine. But on restart, windows will not boot.

1. Reseat the hard disk drives, reseat the controller and monitor. 2. Perform chkdsk /r on the RAID volume. 3. Run diagnostics on the hard disk drives and controller and replace as necessary.
