I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a ThinkPad T450 with Windows 10.  The microphone mute button continues to be illuminated.  I can shut it off for a few minutes, but then it comes back on.  I've downloaded the current drivers for the microphone.  Control panels says that the computer has the Realtek High Definition Audio and the driver is up to date.  I've go through the set-up for the microphone several times, but it still turns back to muted.   Any thoughts on how to keep the microphone active?

The Mute Button Light on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd Gen) Stays On all the time. I can mute or unmute audio fine, but the light stays on. Small issue I know, but I'd like to be able to turn it off. It happened before, and someone pointed to a note somewhere that specified a keystroke combination to turn it off, but I can't remember the keystroke. Note: It wasn't a driver issue or any of the other solutions people post regarding this issue, just a simple keystroke that's laid out ... somewhere ... I can't find it in the user guide. Any ideas? I am installing updates on a T400 system running WIndows 7 Pro 64-bit. The system has been freshly factory restored and all features work properly... After running System Restore to update to the latest drivers and recommended software, I find Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration 3.89.0000 breaks features. I am able to use Hotkeys to change brightness up/down, Fn+F5, Fn+F6, etc. The volume up and down keys work to change volume. The mute button does not work at all! There is no On Screen Display to show the adjustment settings for any Hotkeys. I have found that installing the older 3.88.0000 (8jvu40ww.exe) version of ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration works successfully with mute button functionality as well as the On Screen Display features. Comparing what is different between the 3.89.0000 and 3.88.0000 versions, I find On Screen Display version and Full Screen Magnifier have advanced. The version information table at the bottom of the software download page is inconsistent compared to what is actually reported from the 3.88.0000 setup.exe: Setup shows:On Screen Display 6.71.00Full Screen Magnifier 2.40 The table shows:On Screen Display 6.72.00Full Screen Magnifier 2.41 The System Interface Driver is 1.05 on all the recent versions. With the 3.89.0000 version installed, I cannot uninstall and go back to the older version to get it working. A:ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration 3.89.0000 On Screen Display and Mute Button Fail

I have three T410 laptops. Two of them have intel graphics and one has an nvidia graphics chip. I have the exact same problem as RChesley with the two that have the Intel graphics. The latest Hotkey Features Integration driver 3.89 from system update has disabled my on screen display. Removing it with windows system restore brought it back. Uninstalling it and installing an earlier version would not work. My T410 with the Nividia graphics chip does not have this problem. It has the 3.89 Hotkey Driver installed and the on screen display works fine. My two T410s with the Intel graphics do have the latest Intel graphics drivers offered by Lenovo System Update. Lenovo System Update indicates that the 3.89 driver is required in order to install the latest power manager driver which enables the CPU turbo boost. I would like to have turbo boost working. I just figured out how to correct the corruption of the Lenovo Toolbox from an incorrect driver that was pushed by Lenovo System Update, now I have this to deal with. I would appreciate it if Lenovo would look into this and report back on this thread.

The light on this button has always been dark when volume was on, and orange during mute.  This condition seems to have started with recent, unknown update.   Don't know if it is a keyboard issue or sound driver issue.  Can't find drivers for either on HP drive download site.

Hi, recently I bought a new keyboard with multimedia keys
Model : Microsoft Wireless keyboard 1000
All the keys are working fine, I also installed the latest drivers and Intellitype Pro to the correct OS i'm using.
However, when I press the mute/unmute button, the volume bar shows up, but does not actually mute. It seems like it flashed the mute symbol for half a second but it still just stay unmute. I tried using the default Microsoft sound driver and the latest Realtek sound driver but still no luck.
I also tried turning HID services on and off but still the same
BUT, I remember the mute button WORKING until a few days ago.

I don't know if it is due to the Windows Update, or something to do with my motherboard driver or something else. The roll back driver option is greyed out in Device Manager so I don't assume that is the problem..

I'm currently using:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000
YAMAHA speakers YST-M15 (really old model)
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver
ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard

I'm really confused because if all the multimedia keys are working then it should not be a driver problem. If the volume up/down is working then it should not be speaker problem. It is ONLY the mute button that is not working.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

My Dell Studio has just crashed and wont restart. The mute and volume up buttons are flashing and the volume down button is solidly lit. I could not find the diagnostic code when searching the internet. I could find pretty much every other diagnostic code apart from this one.

Any advice would be most welcome.

A:Dell Studio 1535 wont start. Blinking mute and volume up button, solid volume down button.

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Dell community!
As you have correctly pointed out, the diagnostic code that you have mentioned is not among the codes available to isolate the failure for a Studio 1535 laptop. The closest code is: blinking Mute LED and Volume up LED, and an off Volume down LED which is for USB controller initialization failure. Disconnect any external devices connected and try powering on the computer.
Reseating the memory modules too can help us. Please refer the following link for the Studio 1535 service manual for instructions: http://bit.ly/10PrLgH
If issue persists, the laptop’s motherboard has to be replaced. Refer the following link to check the computer’s warranty status: http://dell.to/10pMa86
If the computer has active warranty, please send me the service tag and registered owner’s name on the computer in a Private Message. To send me a Private Message, click my User name, and then click Start Conversation.
If the warranty on the computer has expired, you may contact our expired warranty services to purchase/replace the compatible parts. Please refer the following link that has contact details for our Expired Warranty Services: http://dell.to/14FoBtb

i dont know what is wrong i've never had this problem before. But something is constantly sending the = symbol through my computer.
It doesnt show up on text editors but if i play a simple flash program that responds to any key being pressed, the program responds as if I'm pressing a key at a constant and steady rate.
I didnt find out it was the = sign until I ran a shell program on my computer...then ============================ starts showing up everywhere at a slow steady constant rate. I need to run a shell for my class assignments but this problem is hindering my computer useless.

I got so frustrated that i removed my keyboard from my laptop while the computer was running. And guess what? The === is still appearing! so its not the keyboard!

Is this some kind of worm? Any tips? I ran task manager already, I killed so many threads that I accidently made my computer shut down LOL.

Hi everyone. From past few weeks, I am having trouble with my keyboard after installing Windows 10 from an iso file provided by Microsoft through Media Creation Tool. Since then, the keyboard keeps pressing buttons itself! (Key '3' everytime. And also, the key '3' in numpad doesnt function). I have tried by chnaging the OS back to windows 8. But problems got worse with that, inclding some grapics driver issues. Now i have reinstalled windows 10. For the first frw hours the keyboard fuctions fine. But after a few hours it suddenly starts tapping button '3' on itself. This happens on any wndow, browser, or simply just in desktop. The mouse cursor too wont move because of the tapping. Its very annoying. I have tried uninstalling the keyboard driver and restarting and installingit again aswell. Nothign helped. Any suggestion please?

 1. Insitall Quick Launch software.2. Uninstall and Install quick launch and audio software (Not Driver)3. Check if any other devices connected to the computer is reducing/changing the volume. This looks like software issue and not hardware so the drivers and application are causing the issue.

Hi I'm new, soo yeah here's my problem:

I log on and everything's fine, but then when I shut down my laptop, I go Start > and Shut down but the shutdown box where you can choose restart, shut down or hibernate doesn't show! so I try Task manager, it doesn't work either. Then I tried ctrl+shift+esc, didn't work. Tried just physically closing laptop and open the thing when it hibernated, I go in and click my user account, BUT its like loading for a few seconds and it stays in the screen frozen! Please help, oh yeah I'm scanning with AVG free and it says I have about 42threats o.o like 90% of them are Hidrag.A and OnlineGames.AQDK or .AQDN and Legendmir.KGY, help I don't even know what these are and I didn't even download them or go on weird websites!

Also, This started 3-4days ago.

A:Pressing Shut down button, doesn't appear?

since it sounds like you are loaded with nasties, you need to follow this forums 5 step process in getting rid of nasties

Please read and follow the instructions within those steps exactly. Make sure you post the logs asked for in the proper forums (not this one) and please have patience. It may take a couple of days before they can get to you since they are so busy.

Somehow I have pressed the power button of the computer while it was running, and then I am facing some problems.

All the programs takes a time to react .... not less than 15 seconds. Browsers take a bit more.
If I try to open a HDD partition in windows explorer, after double clicking on the partition, it takes a time. Then I am getting a sound from the HDD, as it it starting, and then the new window appears. Slowly the icons and thumbnails load, and during all the time, I cannot click anything. The situation is the same for both the HDDs.

I restarted two times, if it becomes normal. But it did nothing.

What went wrong? What I am to do?

Please suggest me.

EDIT: I am getting the same sound when shutting down the PC from the HDDs. A sound like you are accelerating the motorbike

A:Problems after pressing the power button.

What kind of sound are you getting from the HD?
I'd run the HD Manufacturer diagnostics.

Maybe pressing the Power Button caused a power spike?

You can also try a SFC /SCANNOW and a DISK CHECK to look for issues.

Your specs say you don't have a PSU.
I don't understand how that is possible???

I generally keep the mute button on my laptop on because I generally don't need sound. However, for a while now starting like a couple months ago, the mute button will not stay off when I turn it off. When I turn it off I'll get sound for maybe a minute or 2 and then the mute button will turn on all by itself. When I turn the mute button back off the volume is also at 0, not the level I had it at before it turned off which is what used to happen. This is extremely frustrating is there a fix?? I've tried the find and fix problems application but it comes up with nothing. My computer is also up to date.
