Solved: System fan speed control

Q: Solved: System fan speed control

I have just rebuilt an old PC with various new parts. I thought the processor fan speed would be controlled by the new mobo - but it goes full speed all the time.
The mobo is a Foxconn RC4107MA Intell 775. with a celeron 3.06 processor.
I have checked the bios settings and there is an option for 'Smart Fan Control' which is enabled. Anyone any ideas why the fan speed is not being controlled. Is there something missing??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,
I just installed my new GTX580 and would like to know how to set fan profiles for general internet browsing and gaming as they are constantly at 100% and noisy, I don't mind while gaming because I wear my headset but my missus is stressing me out when she watches TV in the same room. Basically, I would like to lower the fan speeds when not gaming but not sure how to do this. I have the GPU Tweak Utility installed and can manually slide the fan percentage bars but one reverts back to 100% when I click APPLY. I am then asked to BURN but not sure what this means.
I also have MSI Afterburner but the option to move the fan slider is greyed out.
Thanks.

Look forward to any replies.

Paul.

Hey, as you can see I'm new to this forum, I'm only taking you fine people's time as a last resort because I couldn't find the answer anywhere.

So, I'm installing a certain program that requires the replacing of a .dll file within system32. So, in the Setup Wizard, when it is to replace that file a popup comes with access denied. My user is an Administrator by the way. So I tried to take ownership and grant total control to my user using the command prompt. It is listed as successful, but when I go to actually replace the file, I still get access denied. Ok, so I go to system32 folder properties, security, total control to my user. Guess what? Access denied.

Let me get this straight. I can't get control over system32 because I don't have control over system32. I have to get control over system32 before I get control over system32. Circular reasoning works because circular reasoning works.

I pay hundreds of dollars for Windows 7 and still don't own system32. So what, do I have to buy Windows 7 Controlled System32 Edition or what?

Where's the damned logic, uncle Bill?

Please don't tell me not to mess around system32, I know what I'm doing as I already installed this program on another computer and it worked fine.

Hi, over the last couple of days my computer has been having trouble starting up and shutting down. It seems to be worse after it's been on for a few hours (4-5). I opened up the case to check for dust, very little on the tops of the fanblades and heatsink (I dusted this machine about 2 months ago). Upon first startup today the cpu temp was 38?c, after about 6 hours of mostly being online chatting and surfing, the temp has been steady 42?-44?c (according to Speedfan).

An app that I tried before I downloaded Speedfan called Fresh Diagnose said I didn't have any fans connected. When I clicked on the Sensors tab agian the CPU fan instantly went into super-high-speed, and according to Fresh Diagnose the CPU temp. shot to 110?c, and CPU usage shot to 100% and the machine froze, I had to hold the power button in to shut down. Every time I clicked the Sensors tab in Fresh Diagnose this happened. I uninstalled it after it done this 3 times.
Here's what it is doing:
1.) Every time I restart or shut down the machine from the start menu/shut down (when it will) the fan kicks into super-high-speed (sounds like a turbine on a jet) for about 3-4 seconds before the computer actually turns off.
2.) When it starts, everything appears to load; except the apps that start when windows starts (the ones that are on the taskbar beside of the clock on the right). Which means nothing is really loading I suppose because I can't click on anything; the start button or the desktop icons. I have to... Read more

A:[SOLVED] super-high speed fan, system freeze

Hi maddclicker and welcome to TSF !

Do you have the XP CD ? If so, in safe mode, go to start => run and type sfc /scannow (the space after sfc is important). This will run the system file checker that will replace any corrupt system file you could have by a fresh copy from the XP CD. If your CD doesn't hold the SP2 files you'll have to create a slipstreamed copy to integrate the SP2 in it, see this link. The system file checker scan can take some time to complete, just don't do anything in the mean time.

That Fresh Diagnose program you used was probably crap and obvioulsy didn't know the proper layout of your motherboard. There's no way your CPU was at 110?C.

Once the sfc scan is done, restart and tell us if there's any change.

If not then download and run sensorsview pro and tell us about the voltages, cpu and gpu temps and fan speeds it reports.

Also go in the device manager (start => run => devmgmt.msc), check "show hidden devices" in the view menu and report of any warning or error you could see there.

And run the event viewer (start => run => eventvwr.msc) to check whether there are any warnings or errors in the different sections there.

Three problems that I think are related.

(I'm running Windows XP, factory installed. I installed SP2, successfully, a few months ago.)

1. I can't get to System Restore. I choose System Restore from the System Tools menu and nothing happens. The cursor turns to an hour glass for a second, then changes back, and then it's as if I hadn't chosen any menu option--nothing at all happens.

2. If I type into the Run window msconfig, I get the following: "Windows cannot find msconfig. Make sure you typed the name correctly. . . . etc. . .."

3. Problem in the Control Panel. Some of the ten categories in the Control Panel I can click on and get to immeditately. But others, including Network and Internet Connections, when I click on it, I get the message "An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel file c:\windows\system32\netsetup.cpl." I click OK, then the same box comes up again; after maybe ten times, finally the error box stops coming up and I do in fact get the Network and Internet Connections window.

Hi,

when I boot my PC, the monitor stays blank, the gpu cooler runs at full speed and I get the 1 long 3 short beep code from bios indicating malfunctioning RAM. Nonetheless, the system boots, but without a video signal. After shutting it down and restarting, the system fires up just fine and runs smooth as ever. That happens only if I leave the PC turned off for some while.

Before that, I had sudden powerlosses while playing games. Therefore I replaced the PSU. After that the troubles described above began.

The operating system is Windows 7 64 bit

My hardware:

Mobo: ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe
RAM: 4Gb Corsair XMS
CPU: Phenom II X6 1090t
Power: Enermax Revolution87+ 550W
GPU: XFX 6870

I have read, that several others had similar issues, but none could come up with a solution. The best solution I found, was replacing my GPU, which is a PCI-E 2.1 version, by a GPU that uses PCI-E 2.0. But that's what I'd like to do least. Especially since there should be no complications between PCI-E 2.1 and 2.0.

I am desperate for suggestions.

Yours

When i look into the tab that has fans in it, theres nothing there. I have also tried nTune, as i have an Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS video adapter.

Is there a program other than the two i tried to control fan speed? or a way to manually do it?

Hello all,i recently bought a new PSU and so far it seems to do the job quite well, however when i run certain more demanding games like The Witcher 3 and the PSU itself goes into high load, the fan makes quite a lot of noise.

Most reviews i saw online about the PSU seem to say it's not loud at all,and granted it's not loud while in idle. The question is, is it possible to somewhow lower the PSU fan speed ? The sound it makes is similar to a cheap office fan, however as i said, while in idle it's dead silent.

PSU : seasonic M12II-620 EVO Edition

PC specs :

- FX 8350
- G1 Gigabyte 1070
- 1 x HDD
- 990xa-ud3 MB
- 16 gb ram hyperx savage
- 4 x case fans

A:PSU Fan Speed control ?

It should not make the excessive noise you describe
Indeed even with the fan running it should be very quiet as it is a fluid type fan bearing, far quieter than a simple sleeve bearing as found on cheaper PSU`s or indeed quieter than a standard ball bearing

Are you sure you have it mounted correctly
http://seasonic.com/position-power-supply/

I will check the base requirements of your system on the info I have and post back. If you have bought the minimum PSU wattage then you should not have done so
For instance minimum system requirements 600 watt always buy next up eg 700/750 watt

Although the PSU meets the based requirements of the system 125watt CPU and 150 watt graphics, the recommended psu for the card being 500 watt that of course does not take account of other components - hard drives etc OR indeed OC

See this
Seasonic recommend it for office use and causal gaming

I pulled a wire attached to the "thermal" pin on the front of the mobo to get fan to speed up and cooled the cpu down. After researching, apparently the only way to control the fan speed is the "quiet technology" setting under the ME selection in the Intel AMT software that you access by pressing ctrl+p at boot. I got to the area where it should be listed and it isn't there. It isn't in the normal bios. I installed speedfan program but it doesn't "see" the fan. I've also tried resetting cmos. Please help!

A router with QoS may or may not really help. Probably more helpful would be to upgrade (if any of these are available) to higher DSL bandwidth or cable or fiber.

Boohoo, no specs. In any case, a BIOS update may take care of it. I had a tornado going on my last board but a quick check and a BIOS update fixed it. There's usually fan control in the BIOS as well. Some motherboard manufacturers provide utilities that will allow fan and temp changes and/or alarm settings. System specs would go a long way in helping to provide specifics.

A:control upload speed

Can you explain a bit more, what you want to accomplish?

Do you want to limit the speed to a lower level than the maximum achievable by your connection? What type of connection do you have?

There is nothing easily accomplished within XP, but if your exact needs are known, there are likely some utilities available

Hello, what software can I use to manually control the fan speed on my gtx 295 video card? I think I am having heat issues.
Thanks
Eric

A:software to control fan speed gtx 295

Either of these,

MSI Afterburner

EVGA | EVGA Precision | EVGA Precision

should work. Or you can try RivaTuner,

RivaTuner v2.24c download from Guru3D.com

which the other two are based on. RT may not work as it hasn't been updated in a while, and may have problems it you are using an unsupported driver.

Hello all.

I have 3 computers on the same network connecting through a router, first is mine, second and third are my brothers. The problem is my brother is constantly downloading music albums, movies etc, Which causes mine to "lag" i can barley doing anything takes upto 2 minutes sometimes to load a website.
Is there anything i can do to minimize the issue? such as share the internet speed into 3? so when hes downloading he is using his "portion" of speed?

We are all connected through a wireless router if that helps

Thanks in advance
Liam

Is there any way to control the fan speeds on the system? I checked the bios but since my fans arn't stock (upgraded) they dont appear. No Vista option for the fan speeds either. I have downloaded various programs, SpeedFan ect, but none seem to make my runs run at 100% Its always ranging from 50% to 60%.

Also, are there any good programs to overclock the CPU? I'm having alot of trouble with my MSI Neo P45 motherboard. I've got the right components and all, but it wont let me overclock my QX6700 past 2.8 when it was 2.66. I want to at least get it to 3.44ghz.

A:Fan Speed Control and Overclocking

Hi,

Not sure what's going on with your fans are you sure they are supposed to run at 100% ? - are the correct options enabled in the Bios - worth checking the manual or get it from your mobo's website - also see if they have an updated Bios available.

CPUID has oc'ing functions - it warns you it's at your own risk, of course - they also do HWMonitor which should help you see what's going on with your fans and temps.

CPUID

Hope this does the trick

First time posting here so hoping I do not mess up...

Anyway, my question is about controlling the speed of a mouse that is used on a system that has no settings panel for it. To expand that, I have a Security DVR setup that has mouse support but no keyboard support and all control has to be done with the mouse. Unfortunately, the mouse is way to fast for me and with the embedded firmware, no way to slow it.

Curious if they make a mouse that has a built in physical adjustment for the speed, or some kind of inline control to put between the mouse and USB port that could do this.

Hello! So I go out and buy these four computers for $50 (I know! And three of them work!). Low and behold one of them is a 2.8ghz laptop that boots and seems to work fine. Sony no less. Reloaded the OS, and presto! Nice computer and a bit of an upgrade from my current 1.6ghz laptop. Only one problem, the darn thing struggles whenever I watch a DVD or streaming video. The rated clock speed under system properties (you know how there are two speeds 2.8 and then 2.79 or something) my understanding is the first is the processors actual speed rating the 2nd is what the system is running at. Well it drops to 334mhz--only when multimedia is playing. I have never noticed a webpage with flash cause these problems. Do you think it's overheating? The weird thing is that it jumps back up as soon as I stop watching the video and the unit works great. Annoying because my 1.6ghz machine plays movies fine, so I now have two primary laptops until I get this figured out.

Anyway, specs =
Sony VAIO 2.8ghz
PCG frv26
512mb DDR I RAM
Stock DVD/CD-RW
Radeon IGP 345m

Memory for video is adjustable in the BIOS from 32-128. Have tried all settings. No applicable change. Default is 128 (or at least that is what it was on when I got it), current is 64.

Thanks for your time! I'm always grateful.

I want to Know if theres a Software Program That Can Control Fan Speed!! ..

I have 2 Fan Ports on my motherboard 1 for CPU Fan & the other ones for the Case Fan i Know How to speed up the CPU Fan, But have no clue how to speed up the case fan, If at all its even possible..

Pls Help!!

A:A Tool That Can Control Fan Speed On Motherboard Help Pls..

Hmm, it all really depends on the mother board, and I'm thinking as it's an hp, you can't. However case fans spin at max rpm by default, with most folks slowing them down with the use of inline resistors.

You can try speedfan, it may do something.

I have a new Radeon 8500 I installed in a computer Im building to sell. It works great but the fan is ungodly loud. Its louder than the case fan. I tried the fan from another 8500 and its the same. I was wondering if there was a program to adjust the fan speed. There are no mounting hole in this card so I cant replace the fan.

A:Can you control video card fan speed???

Zalman sell a separate fan-speed adjuster for about $ 7-10.-

HP Omen 17 so noisy - how to control fan speed? My new HP omen 17 w010ng drives me crazy - it is so noisy. Even if the Geforce is switched off, the left fan starts to switch on very easily, running a Youtube video is enough. I have read about HP Control software allowing to control fan speed - it was very difficult to install and I only found out that the ventilator settings are already on normal. I switched the ventilators off in Bios, still not much change. Then i ensured in the graphic driver that Geforce is only used for Lightroom and Photoshop, this helped a bit, but still I see that ventilators speed up far earlier then required. I have tried HWinFO64, but no fan speed controls are possible. The freeware Speedfan is the same, I see the fan speed but cannot control it.  I found the freeware Notebook FanControl, but there is no configuration file for Omen 17 available. Did anybody out there solve the problem? How can I control and reduce the fan speed?
