Recommended power adapter/charger for Lenovo Thinkpad T470

Q: Recommended power adapter/charger for Lenovo Thinkpad T470

Hello everyone, Trying to purchase an extra charger for the Lenovo Thinkpad T470 (which was bought in the US) and would love to know which one I can order locally, from Lenovo India. These are the chargers are available and I can either buy an USB type C charger or the slimport charger, right? https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/chargers/Lenovo-45W-AC-...https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/chargers/Lenovo-65W-AC-...https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/chargers/PWR-ADP-BO-USB... This is the one that came with the laptop (USB type C): Would be great if you could please suggest what would be a good buy for this laptop or if it's better to buy a charger from Lenovo USA. Thank you for your time.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would buy the USB-C, thinking if or when I replace the laptop, the USB-C charger is more likely to work as a spare. As far as wattage, the 45W will be lighter, but 65W may charge some devices faster and is more likely to be compatible with any replacement. (I am not suggesting that you are going to replace the laptop soon, but things happen and situations change.)

Dear forum,  yesterday I bought my new ThinkPad t470. While everything else is working fine, the notebook seems not to be able to detect my external monitor (ThinkVision t2424p), when connecting it via a VGA to HDMI adapter. This setup flawlessly worked with my last notebook. Regardless whether I try to connect the monitor when Windows is already running or when I boot into Windows with the monitor already connected, the monitor doesn't show up in the screen resolutions settings nor does there appear an additional device in the device manager.  Do you know what the problem might be? The apater works fine when used with a different Notebook. Thank you very much, EBM

First, are you still under warranty?  (Some are)  Check here:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/warrantylookup

If you are under warranty, don't mess with things; call support.  In U.S. it's 1-800-426-7378

Assuming no warranty, if it were mine, I would try to reset things.  Pull the bottom cover and remove the main battery.  Disconnect the coin-cell (CMOS) battery and press the power button a few times to drain capacitors.  Put it back together and plug it in.  See if it is alive again.  DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A BIOS PASSWORD THAT YOU DON'T KNOW.

I bought a Lenovo T470 a couple years back with Win 10 for school and its been working great with absolutley no problems. Then last night i get home from work and go on to do school work and a message pops up saying battery not charging. It has the icon showing it recognizes that the charger is plugged in. Also the light on the lenovo logo is blinking 3 times red and repeating. When i unplug the charger it stops blinking. So I thought it was the charger, got out my multimeter and check it and it reads normal on both sides of the charger. Then I thought i needed a new battery but it wont even stay powered on with the power cord plugged in. So now it is dead and even with the charger plugged in will not turn on. Not even the power button light will illuminate. This laptop has been great to me and this happened out of the blue im hoping there is a way to fix this problem. And I also tried taking battery, unplugging it, hold power button for a reset. Nothing changed. Anybody have any ideas?

When you do a search on the Lenovo parts & accessories site for AC adapters for the T520, the ones that come up are *only* compatible with dual-core models, which mine isn't. What am I supposed to do? The site has no way to find chargers for a non-dual-core T520! I also tried searching by my serial number; same result. It states very clearly on the product pages, "For T520, compatible only with dual-core models".This is the adapter that Lenovo directs you to: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd008463These are all the other adapters listed for the T520 but they are the same adapter, just versions for various countries with different plugs:https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

Hi All As per the title suggests - just purchased one of these off the web and it's a nice little machine. Tried to fit a 128gb OCZ Vertex drive but it doesn't slot all the way into the SATA port, whereas a standard HDD does. Appears to be down to the physical profile of the drive and the slot. Does anyone know of an SSD which will fit? I saw another thread which mentioned the Crucial M4 and the x25-m SSDs, but wondered if there were any other owners who could shed some light on this.

Hi I'm using an Advent 7111 Laptop using Windows XP Media Centre SP2.
I have an Orange Livebox wireless router (formerly Wanandoo I believe) and I can connect wirelessly on my laptop just fine when it is running on just the battery. As soon as I plug in the power adaptor/charger, the wireless connection disconnects. When I hover the cursor over the wireless connection logo in the bottom right corner (system tray i think it's called) it says the connection strength is excellent!? But even when it says it is excellent strength I still can't sign to Windows Live Messenger or surf the web! Please reply ASAP please!!!

A:Wireless network diconnects when I plug in the power adapter/charger!?

I did that to myself once when I carelessly put the power supply too near the wireless adapter.

If your power supply is not within inches of the adapter, and not in the direct path between router and adapter's antenna I'd guess you have a serious problem with the power supply or with the overall wiring in your house. Try plugging into the same outlet as the router.

I would hope my subject title is all encomposing enough for anyone with a related issue to find this thread.  Sooo, here's the problem: My AC Adapter/charger/Power brick makes a ticking sound all the time unless I plug it into my laptop when it is under 100%. Under all other conditions, it makes a ticking sound. I am unable to leave it to plugged into the outlet when my laptop is fully charged without it making a ticking sound. And the ticking sound persists even if I unplug the charger from the laptop. Looks like the charger has a problem when it has nothing to charge. Anyone has any insight into this? Is this bad for my laptop or charger? Whenever I try to talk to hp online support, they want to mess up my BIOS and remove and uninstall things when my laptop is in perfect condition. I went through a lot of laptops to find 1 that works and I really don't want them to mess up any of my settings just to try and fix an accessory that came with the laptop. Does it make any sense for them to remote access my laptop and play around with it to fix my adapter? Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

So my Y510P's power adapter cord has finally deteriorated to the point that I need to replace it. Right now I'm looking at 170W replacements (since my laptop is SLI), and I noticed that though PWR+ on Amazon lists this model as compatible with their adapter, the max output is listed as 19V. But my original is 20V. Is this an acceptable compromise? Do I need to pony up more for an official replacement? $50+ is already pushing it for me at the moment, and I need a working cord soon. Is replacing a 170W 20V with a 170W 19V going to be a problem? for reference, the listings:https://www.amazon.com/Charger-QC3-0-Quick-Charge-Type-C/dp/B007JY7UR6https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Chromebook-Chromebook-Flip-C100PA-DB02-ADP-24EW/dp/B002ON3NFU/https://www.amazon.com/170W-Charger-Lenovo-Laptop-Gaming/dp/B00456PJ42/https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ON3NFU/

Even if you were using Wi-Fi for the download it's probably just coincidence that something happened to the adapter immediately after the download completed. Do I have that right--that the download did complete?

Since you just downloaded Windows 7--I hope a genuine, not pirated, version--why are you trying to troubleshoot the adapter problem now instead of after a re-install of the OS?

Hello! Recently I am unable to recharge my X1 with the included Lenovo 65W USB C Charger.  When I plug it in, the orange light blinks (1 second on, 1 off), and the windows battery status icon on the system tray flicks on and off between "plugged-in (charging)" and "not charging".  It seems that when I plug it in, windows is trying to mount something like a USB drive, as the icon to unmount a USB C device flicks on and off.  Furthermore, the task bar flickers as it goes on and off thinking that it is trying to mount and unmount a USB device. I've plugged in a few different USB C chargers I have "for my phone, for a battery pack, from a MacBook, etc...", and they work on my X1 no problem. I have 2 Lenovo 65W USB C chargers, and I've tried both of them with the same result.  I'm pretty sure the chargers are ok, as they will charge other devices (like my phone, a battary pack, and a MacBook).  Just, when I plug them into my X1, I get problems. Not sure if this is due to a recent Lenovo Vantage update, or Windows 10 Update.  I recently did the 2018-12 Windows 10 update.  However, even if I turn the computer off the Lenovo charger blinks the orange charge light, and will not charge the X1. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I have a T470 laptop with the USB-C charger. I'd like to connect a DisplayPort LCD screen to use as a second display while simultaneously being connected to A/C power and charging my batteries. I am having a bit of trouble figuring out what my options are. 1. I could buy a Thunderbolt 3 hub/dock with a DisplayPort connector on it. I would then connect the charger to one of the USB-C ports on the hub/dock, and the screen to the DP connector. From what I can see, these hubs are fairly expensive, so given that I currently don't need to connect any other TB3 devices I'd like to avoid it if possible.2. I could buy a USB-C - DP adapter or cable, but I have not seen anything with some kind of pass-through function which would allow me to connect my charger. I thought daisy chaining was something TB3 can do, but unfortunately the charger does not have the ability to do this (I know a DP connection has to be at the end of the chain).3. The T470 has a slim tip charge port, in addition to the ability to be charged via the TB3 port. Perhaps a USB-C - slim tip adapter exists which would allow me to connect my charger to the slim tip port, and not worry about the lack of daisy chaining in point 2. I've found a different adapter (wrong interface and wrong direction), but nothing that can do this. Thanks for any info/advice!

Hi! I have 4 years old Lenovo Yoga Ideapad 13.  The problems started couple weeks ago, when the computer wouldn't run or start up without being plugged in. I followed some other people's advice and got a new battery. It seemed to fix to problem for while. Now few weeks after the same problem stands with the new battery. It won't start or run, but when plugged in it says the battery is 100% and charging.   I tried checking if the charger isn't working, but it charges all fine on my other Yoga, which has the same charger model. So please note that this isn't the common problem that is seen here on the forums, that the battery doesnt charge. I'm pretty frustrated, as this problem persists even though I changed the battery. Anyone have ideas? I figured it could have something to do with the battery wire connecting battery to the motherboard, but there doesn't seem to be any defects or loose wires.  However, I tried taking off the battery connection wire when plugged in, and then I get the message "No battery detected" instead of the regular "100% Fully charged". Any help is appreciated.

RELEVANCY SCORE 60.4

Hello,  this has been solved here, but the version of "defect" is indeed the opposite. (sorry my english)  As other users solved this problem with - it did not help using more powerful adapter with 90W 4.5A or upgrade BIOS. Power Saver off, no other power saver activated. Many times HW tests from Windows Troubleshooting and Lenovo Vantage - everything OK.  I attached here HWiNFO specification. - Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 460 (Windows 1709, all current drivers updated - no change with update 1803 - same situation)  The power adapter (and also i use many others - no change) will immediately reduce the processor frequency to a constant of 0.39GHz and using the bounce between 0 - 15% .Reinstall Windows, HW test and drivers etc. everything is OK.  Even no help from Settings - Windows - Options of Power - set min. usage processor 100% - no affects. The problem persists. ..omg... , whats that? Common opening of Explorer, Word, copying etc., and other elementary activities are now a matter of minutes - big loss of performance. Thank for your help
