Preferred Solution: Media Player Classic crashes when playing .rm files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Media Player Classic crashes when playing .rm files

Try this:
Change the name of the file so that it only contains letters and numbers. Remove all non ASCII characters.
Rename the file-type from .rm to .rmvb

This is driving me nuts, been searching all night and day for a solution but to no avail. I probably should start from the begining, cause there's a big context to this problem, although this is just one of the many I got from what is prolly my second biggest screw up in all of my time using a PC. First of all I should mention I'm using windows 7 ultimate 32 bits, and have been for quite some time now, along with a version of mpc-hc x86, nothing new there.

It all started when I decided to download this movie (may god have mercy on my pathetic soul). Yes, I know this site does not condone piracy, but this is a fundamental part of the story and I'm not gonna ask for help on that matter anyway. Since I couldn't find it on any ''decent'' site (its a pretty recent release) I had to resort to a site I had never used before. After downloading everything it turns out that the movie won't play (avi format btw), or so said the error message that popped up when I tried to. Anyway, in the folder along with the movie came this ''k-lite mega codec pack'' that I assumed was necessary in order to watch the movie (I already had a k-lite codec pack installed, but I assumed this was a different version) So I install it alright, and guess what? movie still wouldn't play. So it ended up being all a big waste of time. You see where this is going, right? shady torrent from shady site, movie that strangely won't play and in... Read more

Hi,

I was updating my codecs with the latest CCCP software I downloaded. I saw that it included Media Player Classic Home Cinema v. 1.5.3 included. I remembered how well it played videos on my XP so decided to include it to be installed on Vista. Everything installed properly. I tried to play a mp4 and a mkv video with it. The file name shows and the timer displays 00:00/24:07 so I know that it at least loaded with both. However, neither one played at all, stays stuck at stop. At first, I thought it was the codecs not being used. Both played on VLC, Zoomplayer, Windows Media, and quicktime so it wasn't that. Then I figured that its probably the settings and decided to look. Unfortunately, I forgot how to get it set up and its been a while since I've tinkered with filters. Everything is still set from default and I included the pictures here (filters = 1st view and 2nd view; CCCP = cccp filter and cccp filter 2). Also included MediaInfo, showing the video I played on several other players. Let me know if you need any more info.

Hi, I'm running Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, just to let you know, since you guys want that info.

So, to start from the beginning, before the problem, I was able to play matroska (.MKV) files on my computer using Media Player Classic just fine, and I was able to switch tracks between english and japanese with subtitles just fine. Then, today, I wanted to be able to convert a matroska file into a .wmv file so I could import it into Windows Movie Maker. So I downloaded several programs to try to do that. Unfortunately, many of them were trial versions that would not let me convert the whole thing or said they'd put a watermark on it, and so I looked for other programs that wouldn't do that. The programs I downloaded were the Combined Community Codec Pack, which this page (http://www.riverpast.com/en/support/tutorials/convert/mkv/wmv.php) said I should use before I found out that the RiverPast Video Cleaner didn't have a free version, and the OJOsoft Total Video Converter, which I found out would leave a watermark and would only convert 20%. I also downloaded the iWisoft Free Video Converter, but that was after the problem showed up.

I tried to remove one of the programs, the OJOsoft Total Video Converter, through Add or Remove Programs, and when I did, a message came up saying that because I was uninstalling this program, there were some common files that it said were not being used by any program anymore, such as one it said, Haali, which I... Is it just a codec pack or driver files it might be missing... or some other nasty?

You could be missing a CODEC, what type of file is it? This utility can tell you: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

There's also a chance that the video card driver needs to be updated, there's lots of little glitches with display drivers at the moment.

I've not long had Vista (Home Premium) and the windows media player that came with it used to play the .ts files that I'd exported from my digibox hard drive. Then - for apparently no reason - Media Player decided that it was no longer going to open the files, not even the ones that it had opened previously. It came up with the cood1199 error, but I don't understand why it's stopped playing them as it used to. It's infuriating. I don't want to have to download another program to play them when Media Player should - as it *did* - play them. Is there anything that I can do to get it to play what it used to play?

Have you tried a system restore back to when you know this worked or is this to far in the past? Have you tried to play the files with something like Realplayer. I know that you want to use WMP long term but this would confirm that it is a WMP issue.

Every time I play a MKV file it crashes my computer. It seems it does not matter what media player it is playing on.

I have tried it on VLC v 1.1 mediaplayer and windows mediaplayer with a codec pack.

I have looked online and it seems many people are having the same issue, but noone has good insight on how or why it keeps happening.

It is a very frustrating issue.

A:MKV files causing crashes on VLC and Media player

Corrupted files perhaps?

Try The KMPlayer, WinAmp, or Splayer?

If none of those work with reasonable Codec pack installs, then the files are hosed.

The KMPlayer uses it's own codecs I believe and you can manipulate it within its options big time, so it's possible to troubleshoot odd issues, I changed the renderer for example and some videos that said they couldn't work, suddenly did, and it's my favorite player for videos, and fully capable for audio too, I just prefer another one for audio.

I hope that is useful.

My uncle got DSL a couple of months ago and I've downloaded several large and small video clips and saved them to cd-rw's so that I could bring them home and put them on my computer, but I've encountered a problem when I try to view some of the clips. Some clips say ANOBOLIC when I try to open them and they won't play on either my laptop or my desktop pc, but I can open and view them fine on my uncle's computer. What do I need to download to fix this problem?

The other problem that I am having is that I saved some video clips that range from 15 to 30 minutes, and when I put the cd in either my laptop or desktop pc a couple of the clips say that they are 1 or 2 minutes when they are really 15 to 30 minute clips. Again, I am able to view all of the clips perfectly on my uncle's computer.

At first I thought that the problem was with the cd-rw's, but since they work fine on my uncle's computer I have to believe that it is a problem with the media player. Hello,

I have a memory card camcorder that records video as .ASF files (MPEG4 I think too) and until now have had no problem playing back the video files that I have recorded.

I've recently had to do a full system wipe of my computer due to various issues. Now I have a bang up to date version of Windows Media Player 10 as well as all the codecs packs. However the .ASF videos just won't play properly, the videos stop and start every second with huge gaps in between each frame. Windows Media Player also crashes with playing these files, I tried RealPlayer which also delivers exactly the same results.

I'm totally stuck with what to do,

Thanks for any help you will be able to give me in advance,

Sounds like it might be a codec problem. Do a google search for a program called gspot (you can guess why I won't do one at work -.-;; ) It opens a file and reads what codec's its trying to use. Giving that output about the audio and video codec would let us know what those files are using in particular and can hunt down a way to fix it.

After installing URGE, Windows Media Player 11 will no longer play AVI files. When I try to load an AVI, I see an image preview and the file information and stuff, but before it actually starts playing it crashes with a "This program has encountered an unexpected error" dialog. According to the error report, it's most likely related to quartz.dll. I've tried reinstalling WMP11, with no success. I've run GSpot, but none of the video codecs seem to be out of the ordinary. I've also tried installing the Divx codec as recommended in another thread, but it doesn't help. I'd rather not install an entire codec pack just to see if it fixes the problem, because in my experience it does far more harm than good.

Hello there and apologies if it has been posted before (though I couldn't find it anywhere). I have two PCs running Windows Vista Business 32-bit since the RTM version. In other words they have survived long enough to download updates via Windows Updates, install both Service Packs etc.For some time now I experience the 10 - 25 second delay when playing a MP3 file in WMP. This delay appears to happen only once per Windows boot. Now, this does sound odd so I've tried to troubleshoot myself. When playing an MP3 file WMP launches mfpmp.exe file and this is how it's meant to be even though the files aren't DRM protected. Using Process Monitor I've found that before the process launches wmplayer.exe "pokes around" %systemroot%\system32\catroot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE} folder. By "poking around" I mean querying file information (among other things) on most if not on every file. This introduces the delay during startup of playback as there are about 1400 *.cat files around. It can be clearly seen in Process Monitor summary that it takes even 25 seconds (depending on other hard disk activity) to "get through" the folder. It appears that the module responsible for file activity is CI.dll (code integrity). I would speculate that verifying the signatures (or whatever it's doing at this point) is a prerequisite to the launch of mfpmp.exe which plays the MP3 file. However WMP is checking the *.cat files that doesn't appear to be relevant to medi... Read more

You may have already tried this, but just in case you haven't, on the WMP Toolbar:

Tools > Options > File Types > Select All > Apply > OK

Greetings!
My first post...
Initially I could not start anything on my "DVD Super Multi drive" - HL-DT-ST DVDR GH41NAM. I did some online research and downloaded some sort of codec. Now, at least, the drive opens when I click on its icon in NBVCXZ (Gateway name for "My Computer").
This morning I saw a new icon on my desktop - Media Player Classic. I inserted a DVD that I played yesterday on a standard DVD player. MPC opened as soon as I clicked play. I saw the opening/title still frame, tried both "Play" buttons (there was another one in MPC toolbar but the entire toolbar was grey. After playing more with the MPC I found no mention of Win7, just XP and Vista. So I downloaded the latest version of MPC, 1.5.1.2903 (the one I discovered this morning is 1.4.2499.0). To my surprise, both icon peacefully co-exist on the desktop, and can be opened independently. The only difference I noticed: the original one says "64-bit Edition" on its interface (although the new one installed in the same folder: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Essentials Codec Pack\MPC\mpc-hc.exe", just one is marked mpc-hc and the other one mpc-hc64.
I could not play music CD, as Real Player is my default audio player and I could not change it to MPC as it is not listed in "Change" window (which does not bother me much as Real Player is good enough).
Do I need to install something else to bring MPC to life (whatever version)?

It appears you downloaded "Essentials" Codec pack, which happened to include MPC.

MPC is primarily a video player. What happens when you attempt to play an avi file or an mpeg file or a wmv file?

You should not have to download anything else if you want to use MPC. You may have to change file associations.

Real Player is difficult to deal with and likes to remain the audio player, which seems to be OK with you.

Hello All,

Small problem with my media player
classic. I can play wmv and other windows
media files with my old windows media
player (the real WMP 6.4) but I can not
play them with the new windows media
player classic.version 6.4 7.2 all my codecs work. They fail to "render".
Any Idea's would be welcome. Thanks for helping a newbie.

well did u mean that file played by 6.4 cant playing in 7.2?
sometimes file encoded in older codec dont play in newer version of wmp. in that case use a file converter like c-dex and rencode them to mp3 format or any other. see if that helps and post back

hi!
I've Media Player Classic installed, but i can't get it used by Internet Explorer. each media files have to be saved on HD.
how could I get it work in IE?

thx!

A:IE and Media Player Classic?

The only way I could see this working, is if you open media player classic, and set it as the default media player. That way it will run all media files that it supports automatically.

I have searched the net for the answer to this question to no avail.. Well, actually two questions
1. Is there a help file for MPC 6.4.9.0 available?
2. The really big question is how to increase the image size of images saved in MPC? To this point they only save to very small size files Any ideas?

Cheers!

By default, images (screenshots) saved in MPC are the size of the original video. Opening the image in an image editor and resampling would achieve the same (maybe better) quality image than the a full screen capture.

However, If you still want to do so, you can capture full screen by disabling overlays; by choosing a different output renderer - VRM 9 Renderless would be a good choice (see screenshot).

For some reason, I can watch all video file types on Media player classic except for mp4. With mp4 files, all I get is audio and my screen turns black. Could anyone please give insight on this problem?

IIRC, those are Quicktime files. You need Quickime to play them.

Hi, just got a weird thing to occur with my MPC. I have some .avi files that played perfect. I downloaded a couple more .avi files and suddenly Media Player Classic will not play them. I get a "Can Not Render File" message when I try.

VLC will not play them.
WPM will not play them.
Nor Quicktime, Zoom Player, Nero, Adobe, or anything else I try.

<-- that's me trying to figure it out.

I have downloaded and reinstalled MPC again, VLC again, upgraded WMP to the latest version and codec packs out of the whazoo. Nothing works so far.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Sounds like a corrupted .avi file.

sometimes torrents come down with separate audio files ....so you may have moved just the video....

go to your torrent app & ''open file location'' of the vid in question this will show you what you moved
the original download should still be seeding ....see if you can play it directly from there

i would of said you need a codec but if you could preview them that's not the case i don't think

im going to assume these are legal torrents ..??
as piracy is NOT accepted here in any form

I downloaded the latest version of MPC and when I click on a video and choose "Open" it goes through the downloading a the MPC doesen't open and the hourglass stays up about the length of the video with no sound or video.

I can download the video and use the "Open File" under the "File" tab and get the video too play. I can also open the MPC and then click the "Open" option and it will play.

Am I missing an option that I need to check or what?

Previous versison played with no problems.

I can also reboot and it will work fine.

Hey,

Im using the k-lite mega codec pack which has media player classic. Everything works fine until i play ac3 files - the volume is really low. Does anyone have the same issues and know how to fix?

Cheers,
Joronamo.

A:Media Player Classic and AC3

Do you mean AC3 files from a dvd?

If so then all DVD audio tracks are for one reason or another of lower volume than say an mp3. Thats just the way they do it and i dont know why.

A:Media Classic Crashes My Computer

Judging by the error code that was generated its not Media Classic Crashing your computer, its the hardware that Media Classic uses. So try reinstalling your video and sound card and then see if your computer still crashes.
