Preferred Solution: Issue instaling .net 4.5.2 through windows update and offline update.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can anyone give me an understandable step by step instruction on how to use WSUS? I've tried several times to get an ISO for Windows 7 updates without
success. Nothing I've found on the internet (including Microsoft) seems to be the right directions.

A:Update Windows using WSUS Offline Update

WSUS is a Windows server role that can be added to Windows server 2008-2012. If you're talking about the program called WSUS Offline Update, that's not a Microsoft product.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Hello, I have Carbon X1 5th (20HR) running Windows 10 pro (updated).  Altought I followed the instructions here - https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cy/en/downloads/ds120390 (This is the page for Lenovo users who wish to update TPM firmware) - and installed the "BIOS Update Utility for Windows 10" version 1.33, Windows still keeps telling me to update the TPM firmware driver.  In BIOS it shows that I have TPM ver 2.0, enabled. Since Windows kept telling me to update the TPM driver, thanks to Google I found out that there is a tool created by Lenovo called "TPM Firmware Update Utility -ThinkPad" (It is worth noting that this tool is not mentioned on the instruction page). I downloaded the tool, but can't understnad how to use it (assuming that I should use it at all, because this tool is not mentioned on the TPM instructions page). Could you please help me to solve the TPM issue described above? Is there a way to check what version do I have? Thanks in advance!

I have clean installed 8.1 (through recent .iso released).
I have 54 updates showing up.

because of past experience - mine, and that of others - I am a bit scared about using WU to install them.

is WSUS offline updates a good way to install these large number of updates?

thank you

biren

A:is WSUS offline update a better/safer way to update

It works might take longer to use it that the default WU (Read this for a explanation of steps for WSUS Offline).
54 updates is not that many for the Default WU.

IMHO the total size of the combined updates, and how long it would take should be the deciding factor.

Anyone know more about WSUS Offline Update utility? (offline updater for Win 7, Vista and XP) WSUS Offline Update - Update Microsoft Windows and Office without an Internet connection

A:Windows 7 offline update

That program is written by Heisse Security, Germany. I've been using it for about 4 years, and never had a problem with it. It dowloads all the security patches and hotfixes for selected OS's & Office versions. It also includes IE7/8. Using the client installer app, you can then (almost) fully patch a new installation.
I haven't updated mine since 6.1, but will now as it says it supports 7

Hi

I have a new XP Home PC (with Office XP Pro, probably not a sensible combination and I will likely upgrade to Win XP Pro soon).

Actually, I quite like Windows Update (!) except for the download times. Is it possible to use the Windows Update check to identify the updates which should be downloaded, then download them on another system which has a fast connection, put them on CD, and then somehow persuade Windows to install them from the CD?

Or can I copy the files to some magical folder and go from there?

Any help appreciated.

Hello again,

Following a re-install of Windows 7 SP-1 and the failing to update problem, I have downloaded and installed KB3020369. I also have KB3125574 which I believe contains the updates needed to bring an new install more or less up-to-date.

Should I just set the machine never to sleep, disconnect it from the Net, leave it to install the updates from KB3125574 mostly unattended or can I pause the process ?

If it needs to reboot, will it do so automatically ?

Need to know before I go ahead.

Regards,

A:Windows 7 Update Offline

KB3125574 should only take 10 to 20 min depending on download speed, as long as you are not on Dial-UP. It will most likely not reboot automatically, it will ask you to reboot.

I'm stuck with an extremely slow dialup service (rural area without broadband) which prevents me from getting larger Window updates via the normal means of allowing Window Update to perform this task. Update sizes of less than 10 mb, I can allow Windows Update to handle. But, I'd like an offline install procedure for the larger updates. I can use a nearby library broadband connection to download the necessary updates to a flash disk, and then install from the flash disk to my pc. The library won't allow any 3rd party applications such as WSUS, but I would be able to download from Microsofts Update Catalog. However, when I dble-click an update file from the flash disk, it installs filne, but, Windows Update shows that the update is still needed after the install. Also, the Check for Updates window hangs after the update installation. Is there a better way to perform this task, or even installation software that will allow Windows Update to recognize the updates ? This would be a non issue problem if I had even normal dialup service, but my connection averages only about 2 kb/s on a good day.

Hello,

I am a PC Tech that work on multiple computers daily. A few months ago I was looking for an offline/standalone update for 8.1. As many have found out it was not available anywhere except the Windows Store.

I now have an offline/standalone copy of the Windows 8.1 update and I would love to share it with everyone. I come here often and always find the answers I need and I finally have a chance to give back to the community. It is a little over 6GB and fits on Dual Layer DVD. The reason it is so large is because it it for x64, x86, & ARM all on one disc. It has a small batch file that auto-detects your processor type and installs the required files for the 8.1 update.

What I am looking for is the best part of the forum to share this in, and the best place to host such a large file from.

Thanks!

Thank you for your offer, but it would be illegal to do so since distributing the update file like that would violate Microsoft's copyright and EULA.

I've been tinkering around with a test installation for the past few weeks, as a way of getting to know the quirks of my system after Windows Update stopped working. I purchased a bigger 2nd hard disk for storage (my OS is on an SSD), so I decided I'd just test the waters for a few weeks without worry, then conduct a clean install of 8.1 and reinstall everything where it should be.
The test installation/s originally encountered a hitch whereby Windows 8.1 would not update. Since then, I've realised that's a problem not just with my machine. Luckily, I discovered WSUS Offline Updater. It did its thing, triggering whatever that was broken with Windows Update to kick into life. All was great. Windows updated itself. So, a few weeks later, I decided to go ahead with the same process for my proper clean install once I'd learnt everything I needed to know during these few weeks of tinkering.
Unfortunately, WSUS Offline Updater is misbehaving. It downloads the multiple gigs worth of updates, installs them successfully, then asks me to reboot my system (which, incidentally, would be the time when Windows Update would rouse itself from its reverie), but upon restart it's as if nothing was installed. The log files point to a successful process with no validation and verification errors, but not only are there no updates installed, but Windows Update itself is still not working.
I've tried this 3 times yesterday, all after a reformat and clean install, yet no joy. What the heck is going... Read more

I reinstalled Windows and suddenly i am unable to get any windows updates. I tried to update online but when select "check for updates" it stuck on "checking for updates" and that's all. I waited about hour and a half but nothing happened. And during that time, in the Task Manager, i see a process svchost.exe with parameter -k netsvcs that loads the cpu over 50% all of the time and taking most of the RAM memory on my laptop with 2GB of RAM so i am unable to do anything else during that time. I didn't get any error messages, just "checking for updates" message.

Then i decided to try to update Windows offline and downloaded the updates with WSUS WSUS Offline Update - Update Microsoft Windows and Office without an Internet connection. But when i started the update it displayed a command prompt window and it came to the phase when it say: "Listing ids of missing updates" and it stuck in the same way when i selected "check for updates" for online update. And i see the same svchost.exe process to load the cpu in the same way and taking as much RAM.

My system drive is encrypted with TrueCrypt but i don't think this may cause problem with the windows update.

I run System Update Readiness Tool and it installed one hotfix successfully.

I run sfc scan and it didn't find any errors.

This is the CBS.log file.

A:Unable to update Windows - neither online or offline

I frequently run into this problem lately. Normal times for the first update to really show activity are over an hour. This is what happens when MS won't issue an SP2. I would wait two hours at least before pulling the plug. Also, make sure you're using the latest WSUSo, as there's an addition that makes scanning faster. That's the first thing I would try.

Hi, I have recently just got done building my computer. Did the hardware, pretty much all the software till all I had to do was install 231 important windows updates. So I aloud it and it took a good hr to install it all.. than the computer shuts down and I turn it back on, than it goes into configure the updates mode.. 20 minutes later it says failed windows updates and is now reverting back.. and not in those exact words.

When I was finally able to get out of the revert update screen which took about 30-40 minutes everything seemed normal, till I opened the update history screen and showed about 95% of the updates failed. I also noticed that it had installed the updates on my HDD which is my D: storage but should have installed it on my C: SSD storage. Now I need to figure out how to get rid of that locked folder on my HDD and place all the windows updates on my SSD.

Specs

i7 4790k cpu

gtx 750 ti gpu

ddr5 2400 memory

evga 850 g2 psu

Z97 gaming 5 mobo

Samsung 500gb SSD

1.5tb HDD (seagate I think)

windows 7 64bit home

I've been searching around to see if there was a fix but a lot of people have had a really hard time with this issue and seems to be so many people unable to fix it.. I'll be turning off windows update till I figure this out.

Thanks guys

How to update a Windows Defender Offline Scan USB Tool before using it on an offline computer
-
Good morning All,
Yesterday I created a Windows Defender Offline Scan USB Tool to scan an old XP Notebook that is offline and due to its out of date OS will remain offline. Files will be moved to and from my desktop via a USB Drive and I want to make sure the XP machine is totally clean before putting it into operation.

When I ran the tool and saw it needed updating, which I can't do offline, I came here for advice. Arc gave me Brinks detailed instructions on making and updating the USB Tool.

"Note: If you run the Windows Defender Offline Tool again on the same USB flash drive, and if the following conditions below are met, the tool will only download new updated malware definitions (approx. 69.48 MB) and update the USB drive without reformatting it. [... & 3 Conditions]"

This morning I verified the used space on the USB drive before and after I ran the file <mssstool32.exe> a 2nd time on the same USB Drive and found the used space increased +/- 1 MB. However, running it again on the XP machine I received the same "Virus and Spyware Definitions: Out of Date" message (attached).
[To be sure running the creation tool twice consecutively was not the issue I ran it again 2 more times with no additional changes to the used space.] And another try on the XP machine gave me the same "Needs Update" message.

Now I am wondering how the XP machine k... Read more

Using "WSUS Offline Update", you can update any computer running Microsoft Windows and Office safely, quickly and without an Internet connection.
Please note the patch coverage information.Click to expand...

Edit: When before downloading, select folder for USB (so updates are in the folder).

Then launch the exe inside the created folder.

Also works for W8.1 as well as Office versions etc.

I tried to run Windows Defender Offline 64 bit on a friend's laptop using WDO installed on a USB stick, but it refused to scan the disk because it insisted on getting Updates to its definitions before scanning.

So either the definitions on the USB stick were too old or not present at all or WDO couldn't find them. I had not run WDO from that USB stick before.

But the laptop had just a Wi-Fi connection and WDO doesn't work over Wi-Fi.

I have successfully used the 32 bit WDO USB stick on my own Desktop without such a problem, probably because my Desktop is connected to the Internet via a LAN.

I checked another thread on this subject on SevenForums, here:

Defender Offline on DVD failed because no internet connection

I disagree with the statement by karlsnooks that WDO does not need an Internet connection. This was confirmed here:

defender offline cannot update no internet connection - Microsoft Community

However, if someone knows how to manually download the virus definitions and copy them to a USB stick, I would be very interested.

I suppose I could download and create another WDO ISO file on my hard drive and see what's in it, try to identify the definitions and update the equivalent files on the USB stick... but that would be very much trial and error. If someone has actually done it, please let me know.

I administer a standalone network with zero internet connectivity. I'm in the process of deploying IE11, but 2 of my laptops keep failing on the update (works fine on all others) both laptops are HP ProBook 4440s whereas all the other laptops are Dells. What happens is I open the standalone IE11 installer, it runs through its process, says 'You have successfully installed IE11 and must restart your machine' which I do, during restart it goes through its configuring updates process which all looks normal, then it just says 'Windows Update Failure, reverting changes'.

Doing some looking online, there was a microsoft article that indicated that certain HP ProBook 4440s had a graphics card issue with IE11, and recommeneded updating the graphics driver which I did, no luck on solving the issue.

All pre-requisites are installed, system is Win7 SP1, I've tried removing older version of IE.....I've run SURT and SFC.

I don't see any error messages, we don't use Windows Update.

Attached are the CBS logs and the IE11 logs I could find.

Would really appreciate any and all help on this!

After restarting it I tried to restore it to a previous point before the updates but that didnt work and finally was forced into system repair which tried several times but never succeeded until finally it threw this error:

Window 7 x64 pc with Avast virus

Notice the issue yesterday, not sure how long it might have been affecting Firefox.

Yesterday, Avast could no longer access server to update.  Went to Avast website to manually download virus file.  Said it was up to date.  After two days, I highly doubt it is still upto date.  Tried downloading a fresh copy of the software and reinstalling.  No change.

Now I just noticed Firefox also can not access anything and when I try to update it, it says it is up to date.  I have version 22.00, not the current 23.  Don't know how long it has been blocked from updating.  Didn't find anything to improve the problem in thier troubled shooting area.  Tried downloading new copy of Firefox..... and download failed.

Two days ago, I downloaded a Windows update, classified as Critical.

I do have another computer running on the same internet connection.  It appears to be fine and has to current Firefox version.

Is this a virus or a result of the Window's update?

Thanks for your help!

A:Avast and Firefox update blocked, virus or Window Update issue?

I forgot to say, Internet Explorer and other programs are working just fine.  No issues accessing anything on the internet.  The only problems,  appear to be Firefox and Avast unable to connect to server.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

hello friend..

I cannot update windows 10 to anniversary update. Every time I check for update, this came out

"We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

I am connected to internet, Mozilla firefox is ok, utorrent is ok, everything is fine except windows update.
I have try disable the firewall, turn off windows defender, disable antivirus, none of it work.
I downloaded windows10 update assistant, did not work.
I don't know what is blocking windows update form connecting to internet.

Any suggestion? or perhaps solution.

Thank You.

A:how can i update offline win 8 SL x64 to win 8.1 ?

If you have a different language version that the Windows 8.1 supports, you will not be able to install them.

What you can do is you can download and create the Windows 8.1 ISO and do a clean install, have your key ready if need be. You will have to re-install all your apps though.
Be sure to backup your personal data.

You may have to download the language pack afterwards to get your language back.

Hi we have a computer that holds membership details, contact details, bank account details of our clients.

We made the decision not to put the computer on the network because of the sensitivity of the data and there is nothing so certain as no connection at all !!

Ive been asked to keep the machine up to date with windows updates. In the beginning this was easy because before the database was added to the machine the updates could be run automatically. Now im not sure how to do this other than manually which will take too long and the machine is out of date by about a year.

Ideally I need a package that can do exactly what windows 7 update online can do but offline.

Any ideas? Thanks R

My dialup connection is much to slow for large Windows Update downloads, so I'm trying to update my Vista pc offline. I download the necessary updates from Microsoft Update Catalog via a broadband connection on another pc to a flash disk. I install the updates on my pc by clicking on the update files, and they install ok, and I then reboot. However, Windows Update doesn't recognize the updates and show that they are still needed. Also, when Check for Updates is selected, the checking for updates widow hangs forever. Any thoughts on why this is occurring ?

A:Vista offline update problem

I think you said one problem is that after installing the updates, Windows Update doesn't show that they are still needed. That is exactly as it should happen; installed updates should not longer appear in the list. I'm not sure how that is a problem. Could you explain more.

For the other problem, Windows Update hanging, try this:

Hi all

Iam looking for the best program that will let me:

1) download all 'Critical Updates' - 'Security Hotfixes' - 'Important updates' (not so bothered about 'recommended updates' but would be nice)

2) put this product on a fast USB stick

3) use USB stick too bring brand new win7/8/8.1 machines up to date so less downloading updates over our "almost dead" network which is so slow it can take hours upon hours just on checking lol..

once applied this means the 'majority' of updates are installed and only need to search for a few 3rd party ones like GFX, Audio, Wifi etc...making the process a lot quicker

I have looked at WSUS but this applies Critical and Security only... not Important and Recomended

also Portable Update seems to only download updates for the version of windows its running on.. meaning I would need 7/8/8.1 installs to run 3 separate copies off...

if anyone can help that would be great thanks

I am trying to update from Windows 10 OS Build 10586.589 to the Anniversary Update but my computer freezes at 1% progress. I have tried everything I can think of including: Unplugging all extra SATA drives except my main SSD, unplugging my wireless network adapter, unplugging all USB devices (even mouse and keyboard), removing old drivers and updating outdated ones, and installing the update through a USB flash drive. It always gets to the same part and freezes until I shutdown my computer and lose no data.

You can see pictures of the frozen screen here: http://imgur.com/a/PseoH.
Reddit thread (Took the guys advice on there): Windows 10 Anniversary Update Freeze : Windows10
Hopefully someone can give me some guidance on how to fix this as I've tried everything I can think of. Thanks!
