I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

just got the dell xps 8910, i7, and I have it with Nvidia 1060 3GB. I am finding the noise level under load quite annoying. I am very close to return it.
you guys have any idea of the "normal" DB noise level of the machine. the website elaborates how it is a "whisper" under load, but come one! everyone in my house can hear the computer when either rendering in Premiere or playing FIFA 17.
is there a BIOS update that controls fans? I think it is powersupply fan that makes the annoying noise and comes on and off. could it be that the 1060 is drawing too much power for the comfort level of the PSU?

The new HP Spectre x360 15 inch 2017 I got emits an annoying high pitch noise when the brightness level is below 100%. The noise level varies according to the brightness. When the brightness is set to around 50~98, its the loudest. I now have to set the brightness level to 25% in order for me ignore the noise. The noise will completely disappear when the brightness is set to 0% or 100%.  The noise appears when the laptop is on battery. The noise disappears when I plug in the power. I follow the other post's instruction to update the BIOS to the version F.04 Rev.A But that didn't help Please help. I like the laptop, but noise is too annoying to ignore.

Hey guys I am interested in buying the ATI X1900XTX but found out that it makes a lot of noise compared to the Nvidia 7900 GTX. I have an ACER E500 and I has many open spaces. The PC itself is very quite and it is almost impossible to know if it is on, if the monitor is switched of. Here are some pics of my case -

2.

3.

(It even has holes on the side where there all the ports.)
So can anyone having one of these cards please reply. Thanks.

Hello

Those pics don't help much. You'll need to pull the cover.
I'm not aware of noise level from Video cards...unless you forget to plug power into them. Then they scream like a dickens!

I currently have a plain vanilla 4850, and it works fine for my needs, except the stock fan is very loud when under a load. I am planning to move my computer to our new office, which needs to be quiet. The rest of my system is quiet, so this is my only point of concern. MicroCenter has a few HIS cards on sale, plus rebates, so I was thinking of picking up a 5670. Are the dual-slot HIS cards fairly quiet during a gaming session?

A:Noise level of HIS video cards

The noise level of the 4650 is attached. The 5670 is billed as having lower noise level than the original cooler. So, it "sounds" like this might be a good switch.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba notebook and I've noticed something strange lately. If I haven't used the PC for several minutes and the monitor has shut off, the hard drive starts making a lot of noise. The noise isn't unusual itself, it just sounds as if the hard drive is really working, as if I'm loading a bunch of programs or something. As soon as I touch the mouse, the noise stops immediately. At first I thought it was making noise to activate the screen saver, but I disabled the screen saver and the noise hasn't stopped. It just doesn't make sense to me, and I keep wondering what my hard drive is doing to make all that noise (it continues for quite awhile too). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

It is either Windows doing housekeeping or some defrag/antivirus program doing its stuff. Nothing to worry about.

Hello, i just bought a new ideapad 720 today with no operating system. Theres a really loud fan noise when i'm entering the BIOSor when the laptop is just idle. I mean VERY loud, it's like the CPU is at 100%, and the laptop isn't doing anything. I can't upgrade the BIOS.. what do you guys suggest i do? I'm thinking about returning this laptop.. this is not the first time i'm having issues with Lenovo.. with a yoga device that went brick a few months ago, to a thinkpad with battery issues. I am very disappointed and i'm not going to purchase any Lenovo products again if i find this to be a hardware issue.. and please don't direct me to other posts. I literally browsed every possible post on this issue, and there are many.. whats going on Lenovo?

Last week I received a brand new Lenovo Yoga 710. The internal fan produces a constant noise i.e. it is constantly running. Of course the fan/noise increases with CPU load but it never stops when the CPU idles (e.g. regular Office work). I checked with Windows Task Manager, that there is no background load that could produce CPU, Memory or Disk activity. Ambient temperatures are normal (22 degrees C), machine is on the desk and cool. Is there a BIOS upgrade or setting available that fixes this? Fred. P.S. Machine type info 80TY000SGE (Core i5, 8 GB, 128 GB SSD, Intel GPU), Windows 10 original installation.

Card model: MSI GTX 970 4GD5T
Windows 10

This is a strange one.
A few weeks ago, my graphics card started making noise when idle in windows. I can't pin point when this started, but it was some time after installing a new nvidia driver (441.41) but not immediately after. The GPU fan is running at 32% (minimum limit) but the RPM is unstable - fluctuates rapidly between 700-1150 RPM. This happens even after a restart, with no software open. The temperature is stable and does not rise above 30c.

In game it makes less noise, but the fans are at 70% which is around 2000 RPM. When I exit the game, the fans spin slower and slower (still quieter than after a restart) in a stable pace without fluctuation until the temperature drops to 30c and the fans are dead quiet, stable at around 800 RPM. When it reaches 30c, the fans start making noise and the RPM fluctuates heavily between 700-1150 RPM (GPU-Z still says it's 32%).

I tried reverting back to a driver from a year ago (clean install) and nothing changed. I updated the driver to 441.66 and still the same. When I uninstall the driver there is no noise. A week ago I changed my PSU (died due to a sudden power outage) and also cleaned the whole PC (the problem existed before that). I also tried using MSI afterburner and EVGA precision to set the fan speed and it's more noisy than in game no matter what I set it to.

Any ideas?

Yep, when im ingame like in the menu and i go to the bathroom or go do something for less than 15 minutes, i come back runnning to the sound of my Computer making a repetitive noise, its already shut itself down so i unplug it from the wall and after a while it stops. THis has been happening more frequently lately.

How do i view my system's temps?
It could be too hot and shutdown, but i doubt its major overheating seeing as this happened 2 times last year and the computer works fine. Started again about 2 weeks ago, could it be because its now hot again? Hmmph,

I was being driven crazy by a high-pitched ‘chirping’ noise coming (as I could see, well, hear, on opening the PC case and investigating more closely), from an area around the CPU (i7-4790K, not overclocked (i.e. @ 4.00GHz. & 4.40GHz turbo)

Googling finally lead to this thread:

high pitched noise coming from cpu area [Solved] - Motherboards - Motherboards

and I followed through on these instructions there:

1. Execute: "regedit"
2 .Locate: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Power \ PowerSettings \ 54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b?740d00 \ 5d76a2ca-e8c0-402f-a133-215849?2d58ad
3. Change Attributes from 1 to 0.
4. Then, through the control panel - power - in the settings mode select power management processor. There will be an option disabling idle processor and high pitched noise immediately disappears.

It worked a treat, no more annoying squeaking.

But if the “All CPU Meter” gadget on my desktop is at all accurate (how close do these gadgets get to the real core temperatures? They can jump up and down ten degrees or more between one second reading intervals), as also explained in the same thread – and logically enough – the core temperatures, when running MS Flight Simulator (which is what this PC mostly does) are about 15 degs C higher than when Idle Processor is enabled. (When MSFS is running, I get core temps between 45 degrees & 70 degs (usually a... Read more

Howdy,

I've been having the occasional BSOD lately. Sometimes when I leave my computer idle, and once now when I was playing a video game (Element4l). Also, when I start up my computer, I get a hard drive clicking noise sometimes. This noise also happens occasionally when I'm using my computer. It's always one click. About 2 weeks ago, I cloned my main drive to my backup hard drive as my storage drive has a faster RPM. I asked for help on this forum and got great help:

2 Hard Drives, Win 7/ Linux, Sys Res Part. has System(screenshot inc.)

So ya, all my drives are in the right place with the right partitions where I want them now. I'm running windows 7 on my C: drive and I am not dual booting with Linux anymore ( cleaned up my bootloader though the console command bootrec.exe /fixmbr ). When I look at everything through my BIOS at the start, my C: drive, which is P0 (my D: is P1), does not show up, although it shows P0 in boot override. I've also done the run system repair 3 times fix that I found on this forum. Also, system repair does not detect my os ( C: ) when I boot from my Windows 7 installation cd for startup repair. Windows runs fine until the BSOD.

That said, I'm at a loss. I aware of the clicking noise being my hard drive possibly failing. Also, when I alook at my partitions through the eyes of a Linux Mint live cd, I see 2 loaders ( one on the sys res, and one on C: ). Here are the screenshots that I hope will help:

Is there a chance do define two different audio levels?
I guess I am not the only one listening to music with my computer - so I'd like to avoid awkward and looooud system sounds while turning up my stereo...

is there a chance to do so? I know that apple has it, not sure bout win7...

thx

A:Low system sound level, high music level?

I think I understand your question. I use powered partner speakers and in my audio controls for my sound card it has output levels and then and then my music manager has it's own. First I set my sound card at around 1/3 volume +- and then go to the mm and set a volume to around 1/2-3/4 full volume. Then at my speakers I adjust the volume to a clear but loud volume. Then going back to the mm I'll use it's volume only which is controlled off my keyboard and it seems to work well. You still will run into situations where things are too load or too soft and other than in your music files there really isn't much you can do about that, just be ready to ride your volume a little.

Pinging the desktop from other computers on the home network work fine.

Is my stack screwed up, or do I have a problem with the network adapter?

If there is no option for it in the BIOS you probably cant do it. Its not advisable anyways - and i also doubt your problems with SP2 come with the CPUs cache.

I have read on here that in the case of reformatting to get rid of viruses that one should do a low level format and I do not understand what that is. I have read the article from Microsoft that some have linked to that is suppose to explain the difference, but it does not explain it to me.

Is formatting using the XP disk considered low level?

Also, how does one go about using third party formatting tools like killdisk or the format tools from the hard drive mfg? As in, do they have to be burned as an ISO to a cd or can the just be copied onto a cd?

I am assuming they have to be put on a cd as I cannot see how they could run off the hard drive, is that correct?

Just bought a brand new IdeaPad L340.Its Touchpad is not working properly -It is missing basic gestures; For example "Two-finger tap" = Right click doesn't work, or when I drag a file and my finger reaches the end of the touchpad the file stops dragging instead of continuing to go in the same direction.Two-finger scroll stops working if I scroll slowly and keeps on going if I remove one finger during scrolling. I have done all the basic stuff:1) Windows touchpad settings page has almost no options in it other than "Touchpad sensitivity", so that didn't work2) In device manager, there is absolutely no driver for the touchpad. I updated the rest of the drivers.3) Windows is up to date.4) I ran the Lenovo scan for any new drivers and all the Lenovo drivers and BIOS are up to date.5) Windows helper could not solve this issue. I have absolutely no touchpad control and I am desperate for help.Thank you

Hi, I recently bought the l340-I5RH (Gaming laptop, 9th gen i5, GTX 1650), and I noticed that the touchpad seems to be pretty bad in a couple different ways. The first thing I noticed was that the touchpad feels sort of "loose", the physical touchpad plate seems to descend slightly even upon light presses that don't trigger a click. Secondly, I'm unable to move the cursor using the touchpad while during any sort of keypress. This is an issue in things like simple games (Obviously, only the type that I would play with a touchpad, using a USB mouse is fine). I looked into it and it seems like an intentional feature, something about accidental palm movement while typing; however, I followed multiple sets of directions in pursuit of disabling, but my device seems to be missing the options set to remove the function.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
