Unable to install Windows 7 [Intel SD Host Controller] driver needed?

Q: Unable to install Windows 7 [Intel SD Host Controller] driver needed?

Hello friends,

I'm having problems trying to install Windows 7, hopefully you guys can help.

I own an HP Stream 13 like this one here: Amazon.com: HP Stream 13.3-Inch Laptop (Intel Celeron, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB SSD, Cobalt Blue) with Office 365 Personal for One Year: Computers & Accessories

It came with Windows 10 pre-installed. I get free access to Windows products via dreamspark through my school. I decided I wanted to download Windows 7. I got through the setup and ended up at the partition part where it says:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Windows needs the driver for device [Intel SD Host Controller]. Click 'Load Driver' and load the required device driver."
I have tried downloading Intel's automatic driver detection utility thing, but that did not work.

I have also tried Shift+F10, diskpart, list disk, sel disk 0, clean. But it came with an error in the command prompt that says:
"Virtual Disk Service error:
Clean is not allowed on the disk containing the current boot,
system, pagefile, crashdump or hibernation volume."

I'm at a stump. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Uni,
W7 likes to be installed as No1, even on a virtual Drive.
Your best bet is to install 7 and make 10 the virtual,
BUT
if you only have 2gb Ram, then you'll have to use 32bit versions, or buy more Ram

The drivers should available via the HP website for that model

Hi,
I'm looking for driver for Intel SD Host Controller device, a part of Dell Inspiron 14 3452, for Windows 7 x64
Device ID: ACPI\VEN_8086&DEV_0F14 or ACPI\80860F14 as it appears in Windows 10 installed there now.
Hardware identifier apps detect that that's part of Braswell chipset.

Please help with finding the driver.

What I checked:
1. Intel and Dell driver download resources, including www.dell.com/.../advanced drivers for chipset, including extraction of drivers from all relevant driver packages.
2. Intel's and Dell's Update apps to find drivers.
3. Whatever Windows 7 installation app gets from the internet when pointed to go online at the start of Windows 7 installation, as there is an option to get drivers from internet at the beginning if Widows 7 installation is running from under Windows 10.
4. Alternative websites and forums for drivers.
5. Driver packages from other vendors for their laptops using likely the same hardware.
6. Drivers for Windows 10 and Windows 8.
7. Dell's support including phone based ones.
8. Intel community.
9. BIOS update - done, didn't help.
Nothing helped.

Details:
I can't get drivers for Windows 7 using Windows Update as now I have Windows 10 installed on that laptop. I can't use any kind of driver downloader app as now I have Windows 10 on a laptop I need drivers for, and that downloaders can get drivers only for OS version they are installed on. Hello to everyone,

So, before some time I had Win 8 and everything was fine. After a while I have had installed fresh Win 8.1 system. After that I tried and tried to make USB 3.0 in function but not successful. Trying everything, reinstalling, looking from ASUS website for drivers, but then I agreed with myself that I will wait until Win 10 came out so I had hope that this will solve my problem but it didn't! :-( I also looked on forums, different threads but no luck. I have got ASUS laptop G55VW (ROG series) and on ASUS website there is no drivers for win 10 (except 8 and 9 Series chipset) and yes, it's good to know if someone could help me, my chipset is HM77 Ivy Bridge.

Thank you in advance!

A:Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller driver

Try to download the driver directly from www.intel.com If there is no Windows 10 driver, download the Windows 8 driver instead. You may have to run it in Windows 8 compatibility mode. Right-click on the file and select Properties. Go to Compatibility tab and check the box to set compatibility to Windows 8. Also check the Run as Administrator box. Now it should install OK. It is a good idea to also update the chipset drivers (found in the software section of Intel download site).

Intel's site confuses you and it takes some guesswork to find a driver. Both drivers for USB 3.0 and chipset are in Software section, Chipset software. To save you the trouble, here is the direct link for the USB 3.0 driver. Yes, it says it is Windows 7 only because Windows 8 and 10 are supposed to install a driver automatically through Windows Update. So what! Download it and run it in Windows 7 compatibility mode. It should be far better than Windows Update generic USB 3.0 driver.

Solution provided by DELL to a problem I have been unable to resolve on my Lenovo P50 using Lenovo Tools and Drivers. Background Info: I have Windows 7 Ult SP1 Retail on my P50, with two issues.1. MS Paint, Lenovo Battery utility and the Lenovo Network utility would never display a window when opened, just an icon in the taskbar or a splash screen, then absolutely nothing. Mouse would go jittery for about 20-30 seconds. 2. I could not get a USB3.1 external drive dock to work on the USB C port. The external drive dock came with a USB C to USB3.1 cable. Ruled out the dock as an issue. So I uninstalled all Intel drivers, Lenovo utilities and the Graphics drivers to get back to a base Win 7 install and confirmed Paint worked. Reinstalled drivers individually checking system behaviour at each step. I suspect item 1 was resolved by the most recent Lenovo graphics driver bundle. Item 2 is where DELL come to the rescue. The only Win 7 Lenovo USB 3.1 driver (Version 15.2.30.11) will not install on my system manually and fails using any of the Lenovo tools or utilities.http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/au/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-P-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-P... is a dud. It was originally installed during Win7 install using the built in Admin Account before the OOBE. Uninstalled to investigate both issues. Now it will not install under my user account that is an administartor account. Google turned up DELL have Version 15.2.30... Read more

A:[P51] Intel USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller and Hub Driver

Hello,

I have split your reply off from the Intel USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller and Hub Driver message thread involving the ThinkPad P50 into a separate one for your P51 for visibility.

If I am reading the screenshot correctly, it looks like the digital signature on the device driver for the USB host either cannot be read, is missing, or cannot be verified (which I assume means a connection being made to Microsoft's servers for verification).

It seems very odd to me that Lenovo would ship a ThinkPad P51 preloaded with Windows 10 containing an unsigned device driver.  And, if I am interpreting the screen correctly, the driver is actually written by Microsoft, not Intel (the "(Microsoft)" at the end of the driver's name).

My initial thought is that somehow the operating system install was corrupted during installation by Lenovo.  It must ben extraordinarly rare event, as I think I have seen it perhaps twice in the past twenty years or so, but that is about the only scenario I can think of where one could find a corrupt file in the preloaded operating system.

If this is the case, there's only one solution I can think of, and that's to order the recovery media from Lenovo, wipe the drive, and then perform a clean install of the operating system using the recovery media.  The reason that I suggest doing it this way, as opposed to using the recovery partition, is because I'm concerned that if there's a problem with one pre-load... A few usb devices won't be recognized and there is a yellow warning symbol in the device manager of Win 7 that there is a driver that was "installed incorrectly". I did some research on the missing driver name and found it on the Intel support site. I downloaded the Win 7 version. I ran it and it claims that my "system does not meet requirements". It's not seeing an old IDE hard drive (500gig) that I have a an external usb connected enclosure for. Very frustrated and I am not sure why Windows 7 isn't playing nice. I even uninstalled the "incorrect" driver that it stuck me with and restarted the system hoping it would possibly reinstall the drive correctly. No dice. I would greatly appreciate some fix for this as I need to get this drive read to move files from it. It is Fat32 and I can't erase it without deleting everything on it. Plus, the drive isn't recognized when I plug in the usb cable. I will post the error messages to shed hopefully some light on this.

Hi

Successfully completed a clean reinstall with no problems, this time it picked up my Nvidia 310M graphics card (will update my other thread) and installed the latest driver for it.

Only one remaining issue and that is a driver for the JMB38X SD/MMC Host Controller. Have done a google search but can't find anything I can trust to be the appropriate Win 10 driver. One site called "Driver Scape" lists a driver, version no. 1.0.72.4 as Win 10 32bit & 64bit supported but it's release date is 31.07.2012!

I'm tempted to try it but as I don't know the site my head is saying be suspicious. Anybody know or have experience of Driver Scape? I guess the alternative is to just wait and see if a driver is eventually offered via Windows Update.

Any suggestions or advice welcome.

TIA

I have been tasked with rebuilding a handful of old(ish) Dell E6330 laptops. All with the same hardware specs, 7 series/C216 chipset family. I am losing sleep over this and could really use a fresh perspective.
I am starting from a base Win 7 64 bit OS, provided by Dell. I have been able to update all of the drivers including BIOS except the "Intel 3.0 extensible host controller" whenever i try to install it, it gives me the BSOD just after installation.
When i go into device manager, it shows installed, but none of the usb 3.0 ports work (which is all of them). However, when i hook the laptop up to a docking station, i can get the 2.0 ports to work, so i have a work around.
I noticed that after i get the BSOD, under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" in device manager, there is a Unknown Device listed in there. Though there is no yellow exclamation identifying there is something wrong, when i open it, it says "No drivers are installed for this device" when i select update driver it says the best driver software for your device is already installed (Intel R USB 3.0 Root Hub).

Any help is appreciated!

Hello!
I was upgrading my Latitude E5530 with Samsung 850 EVO SSD. I have downloaded OS reinstallation image from Dell support page and put it on USB flash stick. I have replaced HDD with SSD and began clean install.
First surprise was error window telling I need CD/DVD with drivers for my hardware. I saw recomendations to give Intel RST driver, it was recognized, but that did not wort, I could not continue installation. At this time USB flash stick was in USB port on the left side of the notebook.
Next I put the stick in the port on the right side of the note, and it worked like a charm, the system was deployed in 6 minutes.
Next it was attempt to install drivers. I have manually installed NIC driver, then Dell Command Update and let it install drivers. That attempt was messed. Particularly, laptop BSOD'ed on  Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver installation. In the next attempt to install same driver I get error it was unable to install.
I have tried once over, and installed drivers manually in prescribed driver installation order. At #3 there is  Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver. When I install it using setup program, laptop gives BSOD. In the next attempt to install same driver I get error it was unable to install. I knew I have to unplug all USB devices and install this driver from the drive, no matter, still BSOD.
In both cases I noticed left side USB port was not working at all, and other worked intermittently, accepting USB s... Read more

Recently Upgraded: Running Windows 7, 64-bit on MSI Z97 ATX board with Intel Core i7-4790K processor. I installed the drivers from the CD that came with the board from MSI.

My usage is strictly internet, e-mail and office applications. Occasional other usage is to connect additional hard disk via internal SATA and scanning for viruses and malicious programs. I do not overclock or play games.

I am trying to determine whether there is any real benefit to keeping the following:
"Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver". I thought USB3 drivers were already in W7 so why do I need this driver from Intel? I've read this; but, it never gets into whether it is an essential program or what functionality might be lost if I uninstall it.
"MSI Super Charger". I've read this; but, I can't see any real benefit, The only thing I charge from this computer is my phone and I am very well satisfied with its charging time.

I have a set of HP Z210 Workstations with E3-1245-V2 Xeon Cpu's, SSD boot drives and varying sizes of memory from 8-16GB 1600Mghz DDR3 ECC. We use Windows 8 Enterprise for these machines, with Hyper-V enabled.
We get regular driver failures from the 2 sets of USB controllers on the machines (Mainly and issue for the KB & Mouse) that can only be resolved with a full power down (not restart) and a power up. This happens at least once every 1-3 days per machine.
I had gone through the HP support, but they have advised this isn't an issue on their side, and I had agreed all along. I was just hoping to get some traction by notifying them. Anyway, after a lengthy trouble shooting session, we found that once Hyper-V
was enabled, the fault arose.
As it was an Intel chip, they I asked them. They advised that on Windows 8, the drivers are supplied via windows update and that it was not their issue.
So, how can I get this resolved? Not through HP or Intel, surely through MS? Maybe not. Disabling Hyper-V is not desired as I the teams with these PC's are developers and require local visualization. Also, we have templates ready for Hyper-V, I don't really
want to remove Hyper-V and use Virtual box or VMWare workstation. but I am at wits end with the fault and lack of help from the vendors.
Please help.

A:Hyper-V causes Intel(R) Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller driver to fail

I have found a work around for this fault with the USB failure - ENSURE YOU POWER  THE MACHINE OFF - DO NOT RESTART.
Its almost like the restart doesn't initialise the device correct, thus causing a failure.

A:Unable to install Intel HD graphics driver on a fresh install of WIN10

The most likely suspect is a bad video chip.

Now it could be a power related problem too, or heat, but if you have used good parts and a cool case and have tried multiple versions of the driver then it starts looking like hardware failure is likely.

Who makes your 550W power supply?

Double check all of your connections.
And you could go into the UEFI/BIOS and reset all defaults - don't do any tweaking until this problem is resolved.
Is that board running the most recent version of the BIOS?

I had one of my regular BSOD (I'm quite sure its a RAM issue) and nothing unusual ever really comes from it, however today it screwed up my USB controller driver and now I'm perplexed as to how to get a fix for it.

(Windows 7 64-bit)

Windows recognises all of my 8 Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller devices in Device Manager and upon startup it attempts to install the drivers, but fails on each one of them every time. I've tried to manually update the driver and I get the message:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2935

The system cannot find the file specified."

The file associated with each of these devices is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\usbuhci.sys

I've tried countless chkdsk C: /f in CMD to no avail and my Windows 7 disc did nothing to automatically find a cure (wasn't sure how to find the driver manually from disc). I've been told that the drivers for USB controllers are downloaded through Windows Update however I have extremely limited internet bandwidth and simply cannot be downloading 300mb of updates (I searched and couldn't find anything vaguely matching the description of the driver I'm after).

This is driving me a little mad and I really don't want to resort to reinstalling Windows. I've tried Aida32 to try and find out my motherboard type and it shows as unknown... Does anyone have any advice I haven't tried... Read more

Hi,
Try this method
Press windows key+X
Choose device manager
Then choose Display Adapter/Intel/ Right click and select update driver/Choose automatically from the internet.
See if it works.

Or you can find the correct driver by right clicking Intel display and choose properties/Details/change the property to Hardware Id and copy one of the values and search same on google.
You will get the compatible Driver.

I strongly believe the drivers that Lenovo have on its System Update server for the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller for Win 7 32 bit OS for the models of T430s and X230 are the wrong ones or they are corrupted.  Five times now after I have completed my base corporate image the USB 3.0 ports will be working correctly.  If I install the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller drivers from System Update for Win 7 32bit I will get a stop error and after the restart the USB 3.0 ports will stop working.  I have tested this on two X230 laptops and a T430s.  Same results across the board.   I doubt I?m the only one who has reported this issue. Any way Lenovo can confirm is they are seeing the same issue? Thanks

The device cannot start. Error 10.

I have installed the drivers various times and the controller will not work.

I have an MSI Z77 GD55

It is a brand new build and it will not pick up the USB 3 controller. Everything else is fine.

Do you have the device code for the controller (see the hardware device info for the device in Device Manager)? It will have a VEN and DEV number.
Intel's vender number is 8086.

Dell Inspiron 14 3421
Intel i3 processor
4GB RAM

I had upgraded my laptop from Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit to Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. All the USB ports worked fine for a few days. Then suddenly, the laptop went off while playing the game Thief. (This usually happens when the laptop heats up too much, not a big deal.)

When I turned on the laptop, the two USB 3.0 ports stopped working. There was no power in either of the USB 3.0 ports. I checked this with a mini USB fan.

I went to the device manager and found a yellow triangle before Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller.
When I double clicked on it, in the device status box, it showed "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".

I thought it was a problem with Windows 10 and degraded the OS to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and installed and updated all drivers, hoping it would help. But still the same problem exists with the USB 3.0 port.

Please Help!!

Installing Windows 7 x64 SP1 from scratch on a brand new pc.

The Asus X99 Deluxe/U3.1 that I have bought came with a drivers disk: LAN, RAID, Bluetooth, audio, whatever.

Also with Intel USB 3.0 controller driver.
After necessary rebooting Windows freezes: alt-ctrl-del even does not work.

Question: do I need these drivers?
Really don't know. Maybe they are already in the Windows install ?

Seems to me that once Windows freezes after only having installed audio and LAN drivers and I need to reboot using the powerbutton, Windows is less stable.

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers already? - not those individual drivers. If yes, did you check if there is a newer version?

Hi Everyone,

I've recently had some trouble installing a RAIDO disk configuration under Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (see my 3rd reply here Help Needed....BSOD during Windows 7 Installation suspect that the drivers aren't quite Windows 7 "compatible", and are responsible for the problems.

I'm wondering if anyone here knows whether there are updated Windows 7 x64 drivers available for the Intel ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/PO/PCH SATA RAID Controller distributed by Gigabyte? I've googled and searched the Gigabyte website, but I can't find the same files as shown on the original CDROM in the attached image.

These files are from late 2009, and I wonder if there has been an update that might fix the issues I have. This is for a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3P Rev.1.0 motherboard.

Thanks,
Golden

Hi everyone! I've been experiencing some sporadic problems where my PC will not go into sleep mode. I ran powercfg lastwake in command prompt and it came up with Intel (R) USB 3.0 extensible Host Controller. I then tried going to device manager to try and un-check the "Allow this device to wake computer" option but obviously there is no such option for it under Universal Series Bus Controllers. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
thanks in advance

I have done a new installation of Windows 7 on my xw8200 Workstation, Model # DU935AV, and I'm having trouble finding a 32-bit Ethernet Controller driver.  I've not had any luck in reading the forum posts, although I did find a solution to the only other problem I've encountered, which was a missing audio driver.  For that one, I used the Vista Business 32-bit driver, which instantly restored the sound.  Aside from those two issues, the system seems fine with running 7, and I have internet access through the onboard ethernet port.  However, the NIC I installed for my LAN isn't recognized and I can't connect to my other machines. Mark

Hi, Mark: You would have to get the driver from the manufacturer of the ethernet adapter you installed. If you no longer have the disks for the device, or remember where you got it from, please post the hardware ID for it, so I can figure out what make and model it is. To find the hardware ID, click on the ethernet controller device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the ethernet controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

I had to reinstall XP. After reinstalling the ethernet controller driver is missing and i dont know the ethernet card manufacturers name or the name of the card so i cant find any drivers for it.

I don't really know anything about PCI cards or motherboards.

Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Driver needed: Unknown ethernet controller Windows XP

Tell us the following please:
1: Is it a separate card or built into the motherboard
2: If a card, look at the chip (small square back think) and tell us the name on the chip and the numbers with it - could be Realtek 8029 for example. You may need to take it out of the case to see the detail.
3: If a motherboard, tell us who made it and the model number. You can find this by looking at it - you may need a torch.

Hi,
I found this old thread which relates exactly to the problem I am experiencing:

Ricoh SD Host Controller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am able to install this , and get an updated driver off windows update.
HOWEVER, in device manager, I see this message with a yellow "!"

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers
required for this device. (Code 31)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and
to see if there is a solution available.

Any ideas how to fix this?

And there was this answer:

RE: Ricoh SD Host Controller
I figured out the problem. I have the Inspiron 6400, so your mileage may vary.

When I updated the device Ricoh SD Bus Host Adapter (under SD host adapters
in device manager) it messed up the Ricoh MMC Host Controller. So I went to
device manager and rolled back the latest version for the SD bus Host Adapter
(I am now using version 6.0.5384.4 dated 6/21/2006) and the problem was
fixed.

So the MMC controller device driver wasn't really the problem. It was just
the symptom.

Hope this helps.
