I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

when I boot the computer, I do not have access to the keyboard or mouse. System restore is turned off. THe keyboard works in the boot menu and in bios. bios shows the mouse and keyboard enabled. I tested the mouse on another system, and it worked fine. I also tested another mouse on this system and it failed to work in the same way. If I go to last good config in the boot menu, I can boot and have use of the keyboard but not the mouse. I cannot get into safe mode because it won't let me do a combination of last good boot and safe mode, so I cannot type anything in the login window. When I go to last good boot and navigate via keyboard to the device manager, there is no entry for the mouse. when I open the control panel and then open mouse properties and go to the hardware tab, it shows no driver and no mouse.

The fact that there seems to be a logic to this leads me to believe it is a virus or rootkit of some sort rather than a hardware problem.

ANy help getting my computer back would be greatly appreciated. Hoping to avoid a reformat.

Hey everyone.

I hope this is the correct place for this kind of problem.

I would say, about two months or so ago, i starten having the problem where devices that are plugged in to the USB ports stopped responding.

Mouse went dead (Using the Logitech G9x, and the "sensitivity" light would start flashing)
Keyboard went dead
Headset sort of died, i still had sound, but i am unable to use voice.

Only solution was a "hard shutdown" of the computer.

The problem have been there since then, with an average crash every other day, and some days up to 3-4 times.

I'm not sure what other information i should add, but let me know and i will supply it.

Thanks in advance

p.s. Might also add that during this time i have also had quite a few randomly apearing BSOD

So this issue started with my new build. Originally I was using a Logitech G19 keyboard and Logitech Performance MX mouse. After building the PC, I updated to the latest BIOS version. After installing Windows and during the numerous reboots when installing updates/patches, I noticed that sometimes as Windows was loading, my keyboard would not be lit and thus I could not enter my password into the login screen. A reboot or two would usually resolve the issue so I was just dealing with it.

Now, starting two weeks ago when I upgraded to a Razer BlackWidow Chroma keyboard and a Razer DeathAdder Chroma mouse, EVERY time that I boot, the keyboard/mouse will light when the PC is powered on and remain lit until Windows splash screen. Then, right before the login screen appears, the mouse and keyboard lights will go off and I will not be able to login to Windows (ie: keyboard and mouse do not function). However, if I move the mouse as the lights go out, the lights will come back on and both will remain operational.

As this occurs towards the end of Windows loading, I'm leaning towards this being a Windows issue. I've just never seen this before and have no idea how to fix it.

I can give the full hardware specs if needed (or you can check my system details to the left), although I don't see how other hardware would be a factor.

Good day,

Everything on my computer was fine this morning when I left for week, but upon my return I noticed that my keyboard/mouse wasn't working. I restarted my computer and confirmed that my keyboard works in the bios and whatnot, but when I get to the windows login screen, I get no response from the keyboard or mouse.

The mouse is a simple USB one, and I'm using a PS/2 keyboard, so I doubt it's some sort of sudden driver issue.
I tried logging into safemode, and I get the same result, can't move my mouse or use my keyboard.

Does anyone have any idea how to possibly fix this issue? I'm unable to restore from an earlier state either.

Thanks in advance for the help.

A:Sudden loss of keyboard/mouse input

Do you have a Windows Disk? If so you can boot to that and choose the repair option instead of the install.
If you don't have a Windows disk, can try another mouse and keyboard. If another mouse and keyboard work then the keyboard and mouse drivers can be removed and windows will automatically reinstall them on boot.

Suddenly after starting the computer and going online there was a loud buzz on my stereo output. The output goes from my optical audio. This has never happened before. I flipped the receiver to radio and it's fine. Typing on my backup computer now. The sound from this computer to a different input on the same receiver is fine.

The mouse and keyboard are fine here too. But none of my mice or keyboards work on my main computer. I have a wired mouse and keyboard bridging the two computers with a KVM so they can share the same screen too. On the main computer I also have a couple of mice and a keyboard attached wirelessly. This setup has been fine for a long time. Years.

But with the mouse and keyboard unresponsive (I've unplugged all but the wired one), there's no way to shut it down safely.

Can someone provide a plan to diagnose the problem or tell me how you solved a similar problem please?

A:Buzzing on audio output and loss of mouse/keyboard:can't shut down

First up is the machine listed in system specs the problem machine? Also have you tried other mice or keyboards wired or not on the problem machine.
Even if you can get at least a keyboard to work you can safely shut down using that.

Now the set up I do have a problem imagining it in my minds eye it sounds quite complicated. having said that if it has gone for years like that then maybe you have some serious hardware problems with either the plug in devices, the machine components or both.

Now I have Googled KVM (never head of that abbreviation and never used one) and find it is a piece of equipment too that could be going south?

I purchased a A485 and worked well but quickly replaced Mech harddrive with SSD. After reinstalling windows 10 I noticed I loss the function of the backlit keyboard, as well as my mouse cursor kept freeze when using the Track point when I would use the middle button for scrolling. all drivers up-to-date and even tried reinstalling windows and drivers again...still have this issue the mouse freezing is the must fustrating since I primarily use the Trackpoint to control my mouse functions. I found that locking (windows + L) and login back in frees up the mouse again...but typically freezes shortly after pretty fustrating, especially when one of the main reasons I buy Lenovo is their trackpoint. I've seen people have similar issues but no resolutions in their threads.

Interesting problem, which I discovered more or less coincidentally.

Microsoft's solution for a problem I am having is to repair Windows.
I started out to boot from original W7 DVD but neither mouse nor keyboard worked.
After a couple of times rebooting I gave up.

But then again, it has been working, else I would not have been able to install Windows in the first place.
This was just 1,5 month ago.

Since you're here, why don't you tell us what the problems are exactly since we have a habit of fixing them.

You can also make a System Repair disk to see if it will run at boot, or try another keyboard and mouse.

I have an M2A-VM motherboard; it has the settings for Power up the computer by PS2 mouse or keyboard.

It requires the power supply has the 1A at +5VSB lead, my power supply is Sonata III 500(ATX12V 2.2)

But I have tried both ways, not working.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:How to setup Power up by PS2 mouse or keyboard

The proper settings for this should be explained in the motherboard's manual. Did you follow them?

"It requires the power supply has the 1A at +5VSB lead"...

It is possible that you don't actually have 1 amp on this lead. Your power supply's having 500 watts has nothing to do with this

So is there a fix to this problem?

A:Can't use mouse/keyboard for windows 98 setup on hyper-v?

Can't tell which version of Win98 you have but Win98SE [Second Edition] had much better support for USB 2.0 ports and device drivers. Win98SE also included ICS/Internet Connection Sharing, great when I used it with a Dial-up Modem and a second computer.

Hi all - here is the issue I am having. I am upgrading to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) on my desktop. All of my hardware is compatible, and I've removed any software that was not. Setup runs just fine. The problem I am having is that I have no mouse or keyboard when I get to the "Preferences" (where you select your color scheme) after initial install and have no mouse or keyboard support.

I have a wired Logitech illuminate keyboard and wireless Logitech MX620 mouse. I have tried a different wired keyboard and wired mouse and still don't have the mouse or keyboard operational. They both just shut down. The USB ports are live, though. I've checked using USB-powered devices. Dual-booting or clean installs are not an option.

Any tablet options that might have been accidentally set on my desktop are now disabled.

Any help is much appreciated.

My computer desktop kept freezing today, had to reset to get computer to restart. Computer wouldn't boot Windows (the computer got to the Windows load screen, but wouldn't complete loading). Tried to do a Windows Repair Installation using Windows XP Home Installation CD for existing Windows installation.

Install begins correctly but about 60% through, the installation asks for an NVIDIA file (nv4_mini.sys) and the mouse and keyboard freeze. From this point, I am unable to browse for the file, cancel, or anything else. Neither keyboard nor mouse respond. It seems to be knocking out all devices.

Last week, I had a problem with computer viruses which I removed with AVG and Malware Bytes, and then installed SystemSuite10. Started having problems again with system 2 days ago with system freezing.

Any ideas how to repair without having to completely reformat the HD, or at least how to get keyboard and mouse back on board?

Hi everyone, I got a new mobo and cpu yesterday and after installing all the parts I put my old hdd in, after the pc boots I got an error; no hard disk detected. i know the hdd is fine because i put it back in my old build and it booted fine, i know when installing a new mobo you should format which ive been trying to do but when i reach the window where you choose the language theres no mouse or keyboard working, and i know the mouse and keyboard is fine because i used both in the boot menu. my current specs are p8z68-v asus intel i5 2500k nvidia 560ti asus corsair 850watts 8gb ram 500gb hdd ps; sorry for poor grammar and spelling mistakes but was forced to write this on my phone. First, try the basics. Take out the 560 and just install the RAM, CPU, HDD and PSU and see if you can get to BIOS.

Hi Murpg,Sorry for the delay, this forum is swamped right now.Because it has been quite a while, I need to see a fresh HijackThis log. Before you run the new HijackThis scan I want you to replace your old version of the program with a new one. Please delete the version currently on your computer, then click here and download the new version to your desktop. To use HijackThis, double-click on the icon. When it runs it will prompt you to extract hijackthis.exe to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis. If you would like to extract it to another location you can change the directory. When it is done installing, HijackThis will automatically launch. When the license agreement appears, select I accept and then click on the Do a system scan only button. When the scan is complete, click on the Save Log button to create a log of your information. When you post the new log, please post it directly in the body of your reply, rather than attaching the file.Dave

I'll skip all the backstory and cut to the chase.  Have formatted my hard drive.  I have a Windows 10 USB installer and a DVD installer.  I can boot both of the installers but once Windows Setup loads the keyboard and mouse immediately stop working.  From what I've read Windows 10 has built-in USB 3 drivers - which seems like it is working since Windows Setup is running from the USB thumb drive.  I just can't click Next to proceed with setup since the keyboard deactivated (no Num Lock or Caps Lock).  Keyboard works just fine in BIOS. I don't think Setup is not locking up.  The reason I am at this point is because the keyboard and mouse stopped working in my 8.1 install.  (I could remote control using my remote app, but no local keyboard and mouse).  Was able to upgrade to 10 which worked but still no keyboard and mouse.   Tried different ports and different keyboards. The BIOS does not have a way to disable xHCI on the USB that I could find. Any ideas?

Hi all,

First of all a list of my system:

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo'
Athlon 64 3200+
1GB Ram (2 x Geil CL2 512MB PC3500)
2 x PNY Verto Geforce 6600GT's in SLI config

Hard disks are:

1 x Maxtor Diamond Max 10 200GB SATA
1 x Maxtor Diamond Max 10 300GB SATA

The motherboard has 4 SATA connections and 4 RAID SATA connections. At the moment I have the 200GB drive at SATA 1 (C:/ windows XP OS boot), and 300GB on SATA 2 connection (D:/ used for storage of music etc.).

Is there any way of connecting the 2 drives to the SATA RAID connections to get RAID0 without losing any data? I want to just swap the connections over on the mobo' and set up RAID 0 without formating either drive.

If this is not possible, could I back up my 300GB drive, format it and set up RAID0 keeping the XP installation (which would then spread to the 2 drives) without having to reinstall XP?

When I boot up there is an option pops up to setup RAID from the BIOS for a about 5 seconds. Any one used this on this mobo'?

I'm not worried about redundancy so not an issue.

Thanks in advance,

A:Setup RAID 0 without data loss. Possible?

You want to keep the data on both drives? Plain impossible. The most obvious reason being that your drives have 500GB worth of data when separate, while a RAID0 setup would be 400GB (double the smallest drive).

Whether your second plan works, depends on the kindness of the RAID setup software makers. I seriously doubt it, but in theory it is possible.

I have an XP Professional machine connected through a router to an HP4MP printer. Some legacy software I have prints to the HP printer with the command line command: /d:\\Athlon\HP4MP, where Athlon is the name of the computer itself and HP4MP is the share name of the printer. With printer sharing set up, printing works perfectly. However, every time I shut the computer down, the share setting is lost. After every reboot, I have to turn sharing on again and set the share name to HP4MP. Can anyone tell my why the share setting is lost after every reboot? Thank you.

I have an router running in bridge mode. From a LAN port of this router I connect to the WAN port of my AC56U through PowerLAN. If I connect devices to the WLAN with this setup it works completely fine. If I try to use LAN however I don't have any internet access. To gain internet access I need to plug a cable from the LAN port of the AC56U into the second port of the PowerLAN box. This gives me internet access but I loose packets all the time, I suspect because it's some kind of LAN loop. I can't specify the routing on the PowerLAN device. Can I stop the packet loss somehow?

Hi, I am experiencing a loss of RAM in windows XP with a multi-video card setup. Here are the system specs:
P5W64WS Professional
QX6700 Intel Processor
4 x 1G Supertalent DDR2 800
2 x Seagate 160G HDD
4 x XFX 7300 GT video Cards with 256 MB DDR2
XP Pro

Here is what I have done so far. For the people that may not be familiar with this particular motherboard, it has 4 x PCI-Express slots, and readily advertises its ability to handle 4 video cards and 8 displays on the front of the box. Tested the system with one video card, the normal 3 Gigs of RAM were visible in XP. I put another video card in PCI-E slot #2 and visiable RAM drops to 2Gigs in XP. I switched the second video card to PCI-E slot #3 and same issue. I added a third video card and visible RAM stays at 2 Gigs in XP. When a fourth card is added the RAM drops to 1.37 Gigs.
At this point I took out 2 Gigs of RAM and removed all but 1 video card. The 2Gigs were displayed in XP with the single video card. I added another video card and 2Gigs remained visible. I added a third video card and the 2 Gigs were still visible. The fourth decreased visible RAM to 1.37 Gigs.
All displays are running fine and system is stable. I am just curious if this RAM decrease is normal, if there is anyway around it, and why it is dropping at all if the video cards have dedicated memory. THanks for your time.

I'm trying to move my Windows 10 partition to another hard drive, and change the disk to GPT without losing data.
I'm trying to avoid a clean installation as it takes me several days and even weeks to install all the software and I need to keep working.
It is a music recording / mixing setup, so it will be great if I could divide some of my hard drives in more than 4 partitions.

I'd like to:

1) Move my WIndows 10 partition (MBR in Disk 2) to Disk 0 (changing it to GPT) [if this is at all possible]
2) Keep Disk 1 as it is (data that cannot be lost)
3) Use Disk 2 for different as basically a wildcard for other data, backups, old projects, etc.

Does anyone know how this can be done?

I'll clarify why the messy partition setup...

Originally disk 2 wasn't part of the equation, I had a hard drive stopped working, and I sent it for an RMA.
In the mean time, I purchased disks 0 & 1, and installed as follows:

Disk 0:
- Partition 1: System Reserved
- Partition 2: Windows 7
- Partition 3: Data
Disk 1:
- Partition 1: Data
- Partition 2: Data
- Partition 3: Data

I received disk 2, I installed it, and a while later, Windows 7 failed (it stopped detecting the ethernet port for some reason and I couldn't make it work), I decided to do a clean install but I kept that partition in case I managed to find a solution.

I took the opportunity to install Windows 10 and try it out to see if I could st... Read more

For the past 6 months or so I have been having intermittant keyboard and mouse issues.  The keyboard will freeze temporarily (for 30 seconds, or up to a minute or two) and then come back online.  The mouse will freeze up too similarly.
I have tried:
A new mouse and keyboard (Gigabyte Keyboard and included mouse, Gigabyte keyboard and Razer mouse, Gigabyte Keyboard and Logitech mouse MX620, brand new Logitech K330 keyboard and included M125 mouse).
Brand new hard drive and new windows installation (Windows 7 Pro.  Old install was 7 Home Premium)
Turned off all overclocking and turned off USB power saving settings.
Only software running is Avira, Trillian and Firefox.
All drivers are updated.
Other sites said to uninstall AMD Hotkey Poller Service (it was not in my services list).
Video Card is AMD XFS4970.
I just plugged in a crappy Dell keyboard I brought home from work (wired) and my Razer mouse with the cord in (not using Wireless) and it seems to be working.  But I can't be 100% sure because it is a sporadic problem.  Any advice?  I am at the end of my rope.
What else can I try?  I am at my wits end.  It is extremely frustrating with normal web usage, and makes it impossible to play any games that require the keyboard (trying to attack anything with number keys? Welcome to death.)

Hi Guys,

I'm having a small problem and wonder if you can help me out.

I am currently trying to fix a problem one of our PC's has: When I boot the machine up I have full keyboard control, I can use F8 to access Safe Mode. When the XP loading screen shows up I full keyboard control to enter Passwords etc, but after the password is entered I loose control of keyboard, I get no response from the keys, however when I do push a key I do here a strange beeping noise, this is not the familar overload sound you get when you lean on a keyboard accidently, its shorter.

I have tried the usual Ad-ware and spyware removal techniques including HJT and am still experiencing the problem. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hello all.
My name is Bing & I'm new to this forum & this is my 1st post, so please be gentle with me!
I have recently change back to win 7 fron 10 because I didn't like it.
However, I noticed that once I reverted back I was suffering problems. The 1st thing I noticed was the wireless mouse that I had been using for months no longer operated. I swapped back to the original wired 1 which works but not as it should. It now sticks a lot & sometimes I have to reboot my PC because it as locked up completely. I did try pulling the wireless Mouse USB to see if it would reload but nothing. I am only a computer user & have no relevant skills so any help would be greatly appreciated. I really hope someone can help me & point me in the right direction! Many thanks in advance.

When the OS starts the mouse click work fine. After some time I start seeing this problem.

The only workaround I have found is starting task manager. I had this problem in Vista also. Was hoping Win 7 would have fixed it.

This sounds like a driver problem. Especially since it has the same behaviour in Vista.

Welcome to TSF,

Some details of your system, brand name, model, desktop or laptop, CPU, RAM, age of the system.
Which OS have you installed?

Did you reboot after plugging in your external keyboard. Is it a USB connection?

Try this link to see if any of the suggestions cover your issue.

After about 1 minute the mouse scroll and keyboard stop working until I left click mouse. Tool bar on browser also greys out but comes back after left click. Video and sound also are choppy. Not sure if this is related. Flash keeps crashing. Any ideas whats wrong? Windows 7 pro. Asus desktop. This occurs on Firefox, Chrome and IE. This seemed to start after Microsoft update and Flash updates

A:Mouse scroll and keyboard stop working until left click of mouse

Hello mpmckee,

First run Antivirus, Malware, and Spyware scans. Remove anything the programs find.

Note: if you need some suggestions on which tools to use, let me know.

Afterwards, test functionally of mouse and keyboard.

If no change, run System Restore, choose a Restore point before the issue started.

Again test behavior of mouse and keyboard.

If the issue has been resolved, go ahead and reinstall windows Updates.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I got a wireless mouse Penguin Ambidextrous Vertical Mouse | Posturite. It is supposed to use generic windows 2.4 Ghz adapter. However, windows 7 is unable to find any drivers. The screenshot of device manager is appended. I tried various other ways e.g. take out other USB devices, reboot etc. I tried sfc /scannow . But the error persists. There is no usb.inf file in the C:\Windows . It works in Windows 8 machine but not in windows 7. other 2.4 Ghz mice work. The manufacturer says that they don't provide the drivers because the mouse uses generic drivers
Please advise what can be done.

Did you do a Search of the Windows Folder including subFolders and hidden Files? My Win7Ult has several such files but only 2 that are usb.inf only in subFolders of Windows, others have longer names but most appear to be associated with my AMD CPU/Gigabyte Motherboard setup.

Hello there! My Lenovo Yoga 720 (bought new in April 2018) has developed a frustrating problem of losing internet hookup after 2-3 hours of work. Because I work from home about 10-12 hours/day, this is really problematic.I thought I had modem issues, but everything is fine there. It takes a combination of restarting/rebooting and or completely shutting down for many minutes at a time before it functions again -- and then that's only for an hour or so at a time before it happens again. I have no idea if this is related, but I thought I'd mention it anyway in case...The internal mouse will go awry -- it doesn't matter if I'm working in word, on the internet, in Excel -- doesn't matter. I'll be typing away and suddenly the mouse has either A) highlighted everything on the page or in the field I'm working in and delete it (VERY problematic in sheets or in Excel) and B) start typing somewhere I haven't been typing/working in.Adding an external mouse helped, but that's not always convenient to add -- particularly when I'm at another location and working on my lap -- or not sitting, but I'm on another site.  I'd appreciate any assistance -- thanks!

Hi I was hoping someone here could maybe give me some insight to a problem that has just occured. Earlier today I was using my laptop and there wasn't any problems at all, but I have returned to the laptop now and find that the cursor is not responding to anything I do on the mousepad.

I also noticed that the symbol for internet connection is showing as if it has never been connected, with a red cross through it. I restarted the laptop in safe mode to see if this helped, and the cursor responded to my actions using the mousepad, however when I restarted the computer, this time in its normal state, the same problem reoccured.

Really hoping someone can give me some insight to the problem and a possible solution, first time this has happened

A:Mouse touchpad not working and loss of internet connection

On my Dell laptop, there is a key-combo that turns the mouse pad on and off.
(Fn + F5)

I can also turn the wireless radio on and off via a switch on the side of the laptop. Some laptops use keys for that, others use software and some have no easy way to turn off the wireless radio.

Hey everyone! I just installed Star Wars Battlefront 2 on an Asus Vivotab 8 tablet running Windows 10 32 bit. It has a weird bug where the game will crash unless I have a keyboard plugged in through an otg cable or over bluetooth. Is there any way I could install a driver so it thinks I have a physical keyboard plugged in 24/7?

Also, if this is possible, is there anything similar I could install so it believes I have a mouse plugged in as well? Thanks!

Hi all,
my daughter has an Acer Aspire 5 --A 515 51G laptop with windows 10, 10 days ago she cracked the screen which we got replaced and all went well, 3 days ago it had done a windows update, 2 days ago when she booted it up to use it at school she had lost the use of the Touchpad, Keyboard, No wifi option, and No sound device.
First I removed windows updates from 3 days ago with no luck. Than I downloaded all drivers for this machine from acer website no luck. than I reinstalled windows after backing up her data files no luck. than I re downloaded the drivers from acer and I got the sound to work until I had to restart than lost sound again and could not get it to work again.

a couple of points ----- when I do a restart the screen turns off but the keyboard stays lit up but screen wont turn back on. Power button on keyboard does work.
When the laptop restarts and it is at the login screen I can use the function buttons to turn the screen on and off and the touchpad on and off but only for about 10 secs than it wont let me do it. but mouse pointer does not move.
I plugged in a usb mouse and keyboard which works and I have it connected via ethernet.
I am not sure if the cracked screen is the original cause or not.
The only thing I have not done is a complete format and install of windows.

I'm having a similar problem. Certain keys fail intermittently, or repeat when I touch them only once. It appears to be related to the Windows 10 update that was automatiically installed on June 13, 2017: 2017-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4022725)Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB4023307)2017-06 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4022730)2017-06 Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4022405) Not sure what to do. I have just installed Pinnacle PCTV on a Windows XP SP2 pc. All is working fine EXCEPT when I use the volume controls on the keyboard I lose all sound and have to re-boot to get any sound back at all. It's fine if I turn the volume up and/or down from the speaker controls or even using the remote control that came with PCTV.

Could this be a software conflict between PCTV and my Microsoft wireless keyboard and/or between the keyboard and the remote control? If so, what do I need to do to fix it. If not, what else could it be?

Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Hey, I have the same problem on my HP desktop. It's weird. Sometimes the volume goes away and then just comes back. The oddity is that if I double click on the windows defacto speaker icon it says no device is installed. I have the media center deluxe wireless keyboard and mouse combo, and never had this problem with my Logitech wireless one. It HAS to be something with either the keyboard program or the audio chipset. What kind of audio card are you using?

Like the title said... I have a  750m SLI Lenovo Y510P with some weird keyboard problem... for some reason sometimes it just stops working or at least stops communicating with the system cause its mechanical features work fine like backlight dimmer and such... more than a problem is an nuisance cause the only way to make it work again is either a hard reboot or making the laptop go to sleep and then waking her up again otherwise it wont respond any more... what could it possibly be? now just in case your wondering its running windows 10 (yeah I know... I regret the upgrade but Im too lazy to go back at least until I get a big enough hdd to backup my stuff) its also been kind of abused not in a bad way buts its kind of a gaming/working station with intense use... days on complete power up without rest... hard reboots... even now while typing this they keyboard stopped working... think it this way if my laptop was a car... it would be the 24hr of lemans mixed with WRC rally challenge at the same time but other than the keyboard its still going strong

So, while watching some streaming video (not the bad kind) all of a sudden the touch pad on my laptop stopped working. I hit the hotkeys to disable and reenable and still wasn't working. I did a reboot of the computer and it still wasn't functioning.

After a few minutes of fiddling around, the mouse cursor began moving on its own. It wasn't smooth or steady movements. Just inches jerking here and there. It was clicking on random things, opening tons of tabs in Firefox and such.

I was able to run a Malwarebytes scan that showed up with nothing wrong. Ran System Care as well just for kicks and they say nothing is wrong either. That was just too odd for me to not possibly check out. Below are the requested documents.

I replaced the battery in my Inspiron 14Z-5423 ( I did this once before with no problems).  This time, the laptop booted up and everything looked ok but the only 7 keys working on the keyboard .  I thought it was a bad keyboard, so I replaced that and now the same keys only work on the new keyboard.  I checked all the cables that I unhooked to get the battery out and all appear ok. An external usb keyboard works fine.

I've had my desktop for a few years and never had a problem.  Just recently, it has started showing a Keyboard Error message on a black screen when I boot it up.  The wireless keyboard and mouse do not work, although it appears to boot up correctly.  Since I have a password on my computer, I cannot log in or do anything.  When this happens, I've rebooted 2-3 times, and it the keyboard and mouse will finally start working.  I have moved the toggle to different USB ports and this does not appear to make a difference.  How do I prevent this from happening?
