I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i have a camera that is digital still camera/little mini tape recorder, i can take any of my digital still images and put them on my computer with ease, but i want to be able to edit my videos and such, how can i do this? my computer doesnt have firewire, so i cant really do anything involved with that. the only cables it came with were the camera to USB and the camera to audio video for a tv. i am willing to buy adaptors or something, and i know there are ones for AV to USB and stuff, but the only ones ive ever found are in the area of 75 dollars, and i would rather just get a new camera if it comes to that. is there any way of getting my video onto my computer without spending more than 20 dollars?

Hi all,

I have a laptop with no fiber optic or digital coax output.

I'm trying to figure out if there is any piece of hardware I could attach (through the USB or PCMCIA/etc) that will allow me to output through fiber or digital cable to get Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 or 6.1 surround to my A/V receiver.

My A/V receiver has a DTS 6.1 and DD 5.1 decoder onboard, so I figure maybe I don't need a soundcard with a decoder? Not sure. Any help will be appreciated.

A:DTS or Dolby Digtal 5.1 out of a laptop?

Soundblaster makes an audio card that you put into your laptop's ExpressCard slot. It'll give you surround sound.

I currently have encryption turned on for my WD external HDDs. But I've read a few articles that say their encryption is very easy to hack. I'm not quite sure of the technical issues involved, but I would like to make sure my content is safe if I lose a drive or it's stolen.

I could easily switch over to using VeraCrypt containers but I do like the simplicity of WD's interface (not that VeraCrypt isn't pretty simple too, I guess, haha).

Anyway, I would like some practical advice. Thanks!

Hi. I have just purchased a Dazzle Digtal Video Creator 80. It came with Pinnacle Studio Quickstart. I cannot install the software because when I try I get errors "Internal Error" messages. This stops the install. Anyone know of a solution? Are there any free programs that can capture video and sound from my Dazzle thing? Thanks!

Note: I didn't know if to put this in hardware or software because the dazzle thing is hardware but the Pinnacle is software. If its in the wrong place then can someone move it please.

I'm using this tuner:

It came with Arcsoft TotalMedia 3 and it allows met to set up digital broadcast and analog cable and switch between the two easily. I'm trying to set up Media Center do do this, but as it is I can only get it configured with OTA. I've tried a couple of suggestions I've found elsewhere, but none seem to work, MC just refuses to see the analog tuner. Can any one shed some light on the situation?

A:Digtal OTA & Analog Cable in Media Center

Over the air and cable are both Supported by your Card but You don't 2 Tuners and your Default tuner program is just switching between them both.
This is the reason Media Center wont see them both.
Once MC logs the OTA there is not a tuner left to configure.
I have the ATI HD-650 and its the same way!
I just gave up OTA and only use analog cable .

If you want to do the same as me just rescan and choose the analog this time and not digital and MC will log the cable and nothing else.

There is a RegMod that will allow Media Center to Scan And Log all the channels
but they will be mixed in with cable channels.
Also if there is a Recording conflict it wont be flagged,
And therefor end in an error

I have tried the mod but was not very happy with the outcome.

I don't know of the link to the RegMod right now but if I find it Ill post it.
You can probably Google it a few different ways and find it tho.

have just started using Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007. I have created some business contacts and linked emails with these contacts. The Communication History folder shows all the emails linked to these contacts. However, when I open the contact's business card and click the History button on the Show area of the ribbon to view the associated emails nothing happens.

The button depresses, but the window never changes and the General button immediately goes back to being depressed again instead of History.

Any ideas why this could be? This is one of the major functions that I would like to use!!

Many thanks for any advice in advace.

I seem to be unable to delete an unwanted contact from the list of offerings in "To:" section when starting an eMail.  (I have tried others with same result.)
"Help" section says I should highlight the unwanted, then click to "X" on right of name.
I do this, Yahoo Mail responds "Succesful Permanent Deletion", but the contact remains and is offered again in next email attempt.
I use Currently Update Firefox.  I have "deleted history" (Cleared Cache).
Guidance please ?

I've sync'd my google contacts with the people contacts in 8.1. On initial setup everything transferred ok. To test the link I then added a new contact in google to see if it would sync with the people contacts. So far it hasn't. How often does the people app update with google?

A:How often does the People Contact sync with google contact

Finding the same problem here, made some changes to Google contacts and still hasn't been captured by the People app days later although it says it syncs each time I've opened it.

To be honest, what I thought would be a very useful app when I first heard about it has become nearly unused by me because of things like this or the inability to add a birthday directly in the app to a contact. Just feels half done and forgotten by MS at this point.

In our household we have two students, and so ordered a copy of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Home Premium in both x64 and x86 versions - a total of 4 products from Digital River.

Having used their download manager to download these files, I now have 6 files: 4 .exe files (as expected) plus 2 files named setup1.box and setup2.box.

The .exe files are, however, only just over 70KB each, setup1.box is almost 3GB and setup2.box is 163KB.

Running the Home PRemium versions fails immeditaely, saying it can't find the required files. Running the Pro x64 .exe file starts to build a .iso file ("Unloading the box"), but then fails with an unspecified error.

Any ideas?

You can do it. See this DR help link:

Step 2 ? Download the ISO Image of Windows 7
Please obtain these links by contacting Digital River customer support. The Windows 7 ISO file is large (>2GB). Please verify that you have sufficient hard disk space to download this file and install Windows 7. Approx. 20GB will be enough for both operations.
Download the Windows 7 ISO image and save the file to a location you can remember. The download may take a considerable amount of time on slower internet connections.

I've been following the above thread where a guy kept trying to download a Windows 7 iso from Digital River, and it was wrong size/'not an iso' etc. Even though I don't need any iso's myself, I thought I'd have a go at downloading one to see what the OP's problem was. Sure enough I had the same result - 2.49GB (not 3.09GB for x64). Twice in fact.

That was browser download, so I tried 2 separate download managers. Seemed fine at first, but both stopped at 99.9%. Curious . . .

I'm starting to wonder if Microsoft are playing the old 'poison torrent' game - record labels sometimes release bad torrents of music CDs into the wild and fans download them (illegally) but are disappointed when it's a fake. After a few more useless attempts to get the CD, the pirate gives up and buys the product (well that's the theory).

Pretty soon all computers on sale will be Windows 8, and a lot of folk will buy one but want to downgrade to W7. MS seem to be moving the goalposts on that scenario, but no probs - we can just get a W7 iso from Digital River. Or can we ???

Just like the 'poison torrents', after several failed W7 Digital River downloads I guess MS expect us all to give up and buy into W8 (and buy their video's + mp3's).

A:Something wrong at Digital River ?

You can remove your tin foil hat - sort of.

I used Pale Moon to download the ISO mentioned in the thread and it was fine
(e.g. I could mount it via Virtual CloneDrive and look around at the files...
...I could also build a virtual machine from it via VirtualBox.).

I also downloaded two other ISOs at the same time. One was fine, but X17-59465 was weird.
The last ISO in the screenshot above should be that same size as the first ISO.
X17-59465.iso looked fine.
I could mount it via Virtual CloneDrive.
I could even start the OS install process, but it barfed:

Notice the size being reported during the download.
That download was the 3rd try.
The completed download below it was 2nd try.

And these two download attempts were via another ISP:

Both of those downloads were via IE10. Both claimed that the download was interrupted. I looked at the file size of the ".partial" file before hitting the Resume button. The ".partial" file was the same exact file size (2.619...) shown in the first image of this post. Pressing Resume started the download all over again - but the "resumed" download made no claim of an interruption. Each second try just gave me the 2.619... file.

How odd.

Hi all,

Ok, I know some have cracked it, and others haven't, but I thought I would share this one with you.

I am running a MacBook Pro, and had Windows XP running under bootcamp. Downloaded from Digital River and had all the problems. Finally got it to boot, but wouldn't install due to unable to create folder.

Scrubbed bootcamp partition and tried using Parallels. So far so good, but not for long. Won't take my product key as I have the upgrade product 32bit, but at least it got that far.)

Now, reloading windows XP on bootcamp, and my XP disc has a scratch on it and can't be read

Ah well

Any help would be great.

There is no trial version of Win7, only a 30 day grace period before you must activate so you can decide if this is an install you want to keep. You should already own a license. If so then read carefully over the steps to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7. It discusses in Step 1 how to find replacement media.

I have four usb 3.0 ports, one of them has max speed of 35-41 MB/s, tested with two different usb 3.0 drives.
Could a driver error cause just one port to be slow?

Core i5 3337U 1.8
Chipset Intel HM77 Express

A:Can one slow usb 3.0 port be river related?

Hi there
some of the passport / other self powered UBB3 drives aren't particularly fast - although faster than the usb2 disks. There is still an issue with Native usb 3 drivers for windows 8 -- maybe latest version of 8.1 might have fixed these.

Note also a lot of mobos that don't have native USB3 ports won't give you very fast usb3 speed with a pci extension card - bus speed isn't fast enough for true usb3 speed.

New laptops fitted with usb3 ports should provide full usb3 speed provided your device can handle it.

Note it's possible that your "Slow" usb 3 port is not a "powered one". Otherwise sounds like a defect - all 4 should have the same characteristics unless the manual says the spec is different.

Many many years ago (decades) before most of you were even born, there was a game called River Raid on Atari which we hooked up to our TV at home.

I am wondering if there is such a version that I can play on my laptop?

Of course I would have to buy a joystick and would very much prefer the very simple, single calibered joysticks that we used to use (OLD BLUE) that will connect to my Windows XP.

Any opinions, or suggestions please?

Use a lower bitrate
Check the time of your movie, and calculate the bitrate with the bitrate calculator that comes with DivX or with my bitrate calculator from my site if you are using DivX5.11 or earlier.

If the bitrate goes under 600 kbps, resize down to 320/240 or so.

As Jann from Heidoc reports in Windows 7 Direct Download Links as of now only English and Spanish are still up, links being replaced by a new MS Recovery Center that provides ISO's for a retail Product Key.

I'd also had heard from SIW2 who couldn't get it to take his retail key due to a Language error. I also had the same error on two of my retail Keys. The address we were using is Microsoft Software Recovery

But if it's not allowing Product Keys from COA stickers then it is another ridiculous attack on the ability of MS customers to get the best possible install of the OS they bought with their PC even after over a million consumers have done so following Clean Reinstall Windows 7. I honestly thought we were beyond this, but apparently not.

I'm going to wait a day before bringing this up to the MVP forums to see if anything changes.

I really have been surprised that I didn't get an email a day or two after release day from DR or MS stating, "if you have issues, you can download the ISO from here." I mean seriously, what's the value of the ISO without a key?...and if you managed to get a cracked key, I doubt access to the install media is what is holding you back.

I am sure that this issue is DR's fault since they appear to have written the installer based on its signature...but the result is the same either way - bad press for MS and Win 7.

In the 70's, my family and I enjoyed playing Atari on TV.

Fast forward to 2012. Here are the basics.

I have a WIndows XP laptop computer (7 years old). I do not know much about computers however.

I am feeling nostalgic and am WISHING I could once again play RIVER RAID on my computer. But I don't know where to even begin.

I just read about Stella downloads but don't know if it's safe. Some say they are free, or do you buy it?

Has Atari resurrected its games for computer? Specifically RIVER RAID, that's the only one I liked.

Also, what kind of joystick would I need that would work with the XP that is basic in nature, for a one-person player?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thank you in advance.

A:Solved: Atari River Raid on Computer

Most of what you are asking (except for whether there is a PC update) would require the use of emulators. Since they are illegal because games are licensed to run only on their original machines (with some exceptions, I would imagine), we can't really give you much help in this area. But I'm sure that searching will allow you to make a decision about whether it is possible or feasible.

A:Why I can't download Windows 7 Profesional 32 bit from Digital River ?

Usually what happens after 99% is that the file is moved from a temp folder to the download folder, and then scanned by your antivirus program. Try and delete all browsing history, verify there's enough free space on the disk, and temporarily disable the antivirus.

I purchased the student offer version of Windows 7 yesterday top up grade from XP, as for ?30 I thought I couldn't go wrong.

So there I was this morning thinking I could set a side a few hours to get it all up and running but 11 hours later i still dont even have all of the first .box file downloaded!

I live off campus (in the UK), but still have a cable broadband connection and can usually expect file download speeds of 300-800kb/s as reported by the windows download window.

Now I know that there is probably high demand on Digital River's servers at the moment, but still... My download has only managed 40-50kb/s on average with a couple of short peaks to 70-90kb/s.

At this rate it'll be tomorrow evening before I get to a point where I can install.

Anyone else having this problem, or ideas of how to speed things up? I ask as i can't find anywhere else which mentions this problem, only people talking about creating .iso files as if their download flew by and now they're installing.

It looks like the Digital River iso downloads of Windows 7 are done. A person now has to enter a key on this page to get the iso. I have not confirmed yet if an OEM Windows 7 key will work. Maybe Microsoft will reinstate those links but I doubt it.

A:Microsoft Digital River iso downloads - gone for good?

Looks like they are gone. sari and Toffee informed me about it yesterday, apparently, a lot of people (including MVPs) aren't happy with that decision, but there's nothing that can be done. I have the Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bits .iso on my computer, which is one of the most popular, and I can access all the others be entering the product keys I have and also use my e5.onthehub (DreamSpark) account, but I think that uploading them and distributing them would be illegal. This is kind of stupid too. What if the person needs a recovery DVD to access the Recovery PE, but lost his product key on the sticker. The only way would be to grab it from Windows itself, but it wouldn't be bootable. Hopefully they'll make these .iso available to the public again.

Hello! While I know that this is the very first day of Windows 7 release and everything, I just wanted to see if anyone had a similar problem and had found a way to fix it.
So, I finally got Windows 7 Professional Upgrade (since I'm a student) to start downloading through my Campus' proxy and after downloading smoothly for a half an hour or so it hit 68% and paused. At first I thought nothing of it, but now when I try to click "resume" it downloads about .01-.02mb of data and then pauses again all in less than a second.
Anyone know how I might fix this? I've exited the Download Manager and started it again a couple of times, and restarted my computer and have unplugged/plugged back in my Ethernet cord.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

A:Digital River Download Pausing Constantly?

My download has been pausing at the 68% mark too. Maybe it will budge during off-peak downloading hours.

Im looking for a 7 home premium x64 iso because the serial checker on msfts site is referring me to the manufacturer, who of course doesnt have the isos available for download.

A:digital river no longer hosting isos.

Sadly it would be illegal and against for rules for somebody to post a link to a non-official source of the ISO in the thread

I've just registered to get a copy of windows 7 pro 64 bit when its been released from the UK student program and am wondering what format the download will be in. My friends who have got their copies using the MSDN AA have had theirs as iso files which they have been able to burn and install from there. Will the download from here be in the same format or will it be the same as the ultimate 64 bit download (3 seperate files)

It will not be in three seperate files. that was a torrented fiel. It will come in either an ISO (most likely) or a vhd (doubtful). to burn you take the ISO file and burn it to dvd using an app like IMGburn, or powerISO, etc

Here are instructions to make a DVD from the Digital River Student down load
How to make a DVD of that student-only Windows 7 you bought for $29.99

Please make note that you can't [upgrade] from a 32bit system to a 64bit system, if that is what your ordered. You will have to do a [clean] install.

I first purchased Windows 7 Home Edition (32-bit), then upgraded online to Windows 7 Pro (32-bit).
The hal.dll corrupted and I couldn't fix the problem because I only had the Home Edition discs.

Several sources in Forums advised me to fix the problem using a boot disk from an ISO downloaded from Digital River.
That disc couldn't fix the hal.dll problem either so I did the Custom Install. That put a new installation of Windows 7 Pro on the computer.
Now I'm being asked for the Activation Key. The Key I was given when I upgraded to Pro isn't being accepted. I'm told that the Key I was given only works for the Windows 7 Pro upgrade..!

I've signed-on to the Microsoft site and followed links around for a while, but I can't find any understandable information about my problem. How do I get the Activation Key for Windows 7 Pro now that it's been reinstalled?

A:Can't find Activation Key for Windows 7 ISO from Digital River

Unfortunately I think you are going to have to install it the way you started install home first then upgrade to pro

I downloaded from Digital River yesterday with the student discount, and had the same problem as everyone else "unboxing" the download. I used the fix that's been circling round the forums and have got it installed and working. The only thing I'm missing is a product key. Wasn't Digital River supposed to give me one in my confirmation email? I've received nothing of the sort, and would really like to activate this product I've purchased. I have product keys from previous versions of Windows that I've bought, but the machine I installed Windows 7 on was using Linux as its main operating system. Any thoughts?
