Freezing and stuttering in my games

Q: Freezing and stuttering in my games

Hey all, I've run into a few problems here. I'm an avid player of Neverwinter Nights, EverQuest, and EQ2. And recently I've hit some... issues.

Two nights ago on EQ2, I was running through a zone, when my screen blipped. it froze for about five seconds, flickered black just before un-freezing, and my toon's pet would be a few yards ahead. Well I figured it was just some weird game glitch or lag or something, since the zone in question isn't exactly well-known for its stability. So I log out and reboot.

I can't even get into the game. It halts at the character select, and the opening screen resembles what I can best describe as "polygon explosion". Just a mass of color and triangles. I bluescreen after a while, it tells me that an error involving nv4_disp.dll resulted in an infinite loop.

So the next thing I do after I reboot is run avg, it finds nothing out of the ordinary, then I run ad-aware and spybot, both of whom just pick up your every day "you've won a million dollars!" type spyware. So I shrug and fire up WMP to enjoy some music. Well I have the visualization active on WMP, and... well, same thing that was happening in the game, only five times worse, flickering, stuttering, freezing on and off. I eventually wrestled it to the ground, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and slapped a new skin on that works just fine. I then went to nvidia.com and downloaded / installed the 77.77 drivers. I had been using the 77.72 drivers, which worked fine for the longest time.

I had a few more errors with nv4_disp.dll on bootup, rolled back to "last configuration that worked", and went in to poke around. 77.77 was still installed, and I went to the Nvidia site to see what they might have for me. I found this forum thread and downloaded the patch it has - http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=4432

Currently, my restarts are working fine, WMP can be in any of its skins just handy-dandy, HOWEVER, none of my games work. EQ2 doesn't have the polygon explosion, but it stutters so bad that I can't even get in there. EQ1 stutters less, but it's still annoying. and neverwinter Nights... Total nightmare. I rebooted and got a system crash error report, which sent me to the nvidia site to download the 71.82 drivers, which I did, but I haven't installed them yet, preferring to come beg for help

I'm running a nVidia GeForce FX 5200 card on a system with a gig of ram, currently with the 77.77 drivers installed, on Windows XP home edition with all the latest updates. This is the logfile i got from Hijack This:

Preferred Solution: Freezing and stuttering in my games

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Freezing and stuttering in my games

Well I went in, uninstalled the drivers, rebooted, ran a driver cleaner, rebooted, reinstalled drivers, rebooted, no good.

Anyone, please?

I have this issue where sometimes when playing a game, whenever it's about to load a new audio asset, the game briefly freezes. Like for instance, I'm playing the Brutal Doom mod, and it will go fine for a little while but whenever I"m about to for example fire a new weapon, it will freeze itself for a second to seemingly load the new audio file for the gun being shot. There are other games that do this as well. Also, sometimes when watching a video on YouTube, I get audio stutter for a few seconds.

I've done scans with Avast!, Malware Bytes, and Spybot and so far nothing conclusive has come up. I ran the Intel Driver Update program and updated several drivers, but that hasn't fixed it. I also tried disabling Andrea ST but that didn't fix it neither. I've had this laptop for several years now, and it never did this until recently.

I have recently encountered the same problem on my computer as of yesterday. Playing ESO i used to play on high settings no problems, now am on medium and it stuttering with my fps still at 80-100.

Was playing yesterday my keyboard starting being glitchy, restarted computer and keystrokes would not read but other things like caps lock would. I restored to factory settings using on screen keyboard, then when windows reloaded I could not even put keystrokes in to enter my computer name for setup. Magically it worked out of the blue out of many restarts etc. I have now reset to factory settings, cleared ram, disabled fw, ran superantispyware and clear, nothing running in background, drivers are up to date.

No idea what is going on, any help would be awesome. Seems the stutter gets worse the longer i play.

Sounds like a hardware or heat related issue. My first thought would be the power supply.

You should be able to check the voltages in the BIOS (unless Dell locked that page).

Hi everyone,

I have a REALLY annoying problem with my PC.

When I play computer games I will get frequent half second pauses/stutters. It happens every 10 seconds or so, and i'm not certain but i THINK it's when a game plays a sound file.

What makes it all the more strange is that when i played the Guild Wars 2 beta it didn't happen AT ALL, yet on games like League of Legends and Guild Wars 1 it happens non-stop.

I have tried alot of different ideas that i've found on various gaming tech-help forums over the past few months; i've updated my audio and video drivers, I've parked and unparked CPUs, i've allocated a game to a specific CPU, i've reinstalled directx, i've made sure windows updates are all up to date, i've checked the temperature of my PC, etc.

Does anybody have ANY idea what might be causing this? I've never updated my BIOS because I can't find out how to do it, where to do it, or even if to do it. I got the PC second hand a year ago.

I get used to it after a while, but when my boyfriend is at work I play on his PC, and then coming back to mine in the evening just annoys me!

Hey everyone!
I'm new here so sorry if this is the wrong section or something. Basically I'm having stuttering issues within some games. I noticed this when I first installed Mirrors edge. Every 10 seconds or so the game will freeze for half a second. It gets worse as I play on and is eventually happening every few seconds. I thought it was a problem with this game alone until I downloaded Dead Space 3 and the same thing happened.

Here are my main specs:
Intel i7 2600
Gigabyte GTX 580
8gb of RAM
Gigabyte z68-xp-ud3
750w power supply

If anybody could suggest some ways to fix this that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Hi I'm having an annoying issue with some games with stuttering when my system seems to be more than capable of running them. Here are some of the games that have this issue whilst playing them: Crysis , Metro last light , Red faction guerilla (<--very rarely stutters) Deus ex human revolution , BF4 , Watch dogs and world of tanks.

Yes I understand that some of those games are old and It also could be because of in-game loading but its strange because it is not happening to anyone else and I have tried nearly everything to fix this issue (I play these games on a gaming laptop with a mobile GPU etc...) but It still persists so Is there any solutions and reasons to why this happens and is there anything I could turn down in the video menu of these games at could be causing them to stutter? Here are my main specs

CPU: i7 4700MQ
GPU: Geforce GTX 765M
RAM: 8GB

Running these games on a gaming laptop (with no SSD if that has anything to do with it) and hope to get this fixed. Thanks

PC is still under warrenty until 8th Jan but issue been around for years - PC used to be a windows 98 - they did an upgrade - could they have missed something?

They think they've done enough - I need a working pc!

Any help welcome

Let's see if you have any nasties hiding there first.....

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Hi,

I had an issue in the past where I installed a 32-bit version of a program and it messed everything up. You can take a look at this thread for more information.

Mouse/Keyboard/USB don't work anymore after turning off computer

I had to do a repair install in order for my computer to run properly again. However, 3/4 months after the repair install, my computer is acting strange. It constantly stutters/freezes every 5-10 seconds or so. When I browse the internet, it freezes for about 5 seconds before it resumes; when I open up anything, it freezes before it starts; when I play a game, it lags/freezes randomly for a good 3-5 seconds.

I have no idea what happened or if this has anything to do with the "repair install". I assume it does and I am asking you guys if anything can be done to fix this issue before a complete format of my system.

A:Stuttering/Freezing

If this began 3 or 4 months after the repair install, it is probably not related to it.

I think you should check for malware.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to a convenient location.
Right click on mbam-setup.exe and select Run as administrator
Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked):Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform quick scan, then click on Scan.
Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
Check (tick) all items except items in the C:\System Volume Information folder and click on Remove Selected.
After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

Hi, all.

I've recently put together a new multimedia computer which I've hooked up to a 32'' LCD 1080i TV.

The machine has up until now, played DVDs fine, but when I tried playing my first HD DVD the other day, I noticed a slight 'stutter' every five seconds or so, during playback.

I tried changing some of the ATI Catalyst settings, but nothing worked, so I turned to downloading the newest ATI drivers I could find on their official website.

After I'd installed them and restarted, an error message appeared saying that the 'new' drivers I'd just installed (even though I'd double-checked) were in fact, 'old' drivers, and that Catalyst would now not work under them.

I tried rolling back the drivers, but that didn't help - if anything, it made things worse - I lost all sound, and eventually picture whilst running XP - so as a last resort, I tried reinstalling Windows.

This has pretty much restored everything to how it was before (and also HD DVD playback in PowerDVD Ultra) but now I can only play a film/disc for so long (about 10-20 mins) until the image freezes and/or goes into an infinite stuttering loop (video, that is - the sound keeps running).
I'd be eternally grateful if anyone could help me with this.

Thanks in advance,
Clark.
PS - I've also recently installed WMP11, assuming I could play blu-ray and HD DVD discs with that, but it doesn't seem to recognise HD DVD's at all.... Read more

Hi guys,

First of all merry christmas

I have a weird issue where when I play games my computer, including audio and video, sometimes hangs for 1 second and then resumes again. This seems to happen in every game I play and it's very frustrating.

I checked my processes and I do have a 'System interrupts' process that sometimes pops up. I run Windows 8.1 , have 8GB ram, and use a GTX680 with the latest nvidia drivers.

Attached you can find my DXDIAG report.

I ran CCleaner and also did some virus scans, but no luck.

Any thoughts guys?

A:Stuttering while playing games

well be a scientist and start experimenting!! come on man..

1. turn off all sound in game.. run game. does it stutter?

2. disable sound in your actual windows 8.1 - go into device manager etc.. then run game.. stutter????!!

3. when running a game, (if it doesn't crash it) press shift, ctrl, and ESC. Look for whats using hard drive and look through performance for any % like disk usage..

4. what games are stuttering?

i mean your problem is so in-general (lag in games) its so hard to determine where to start.. but yeah, drivers are a must..

video drivers, hard drive updates, windows updates, sound driver update a huge one....

but if your sound and video hangs.. its hard drive or memory trying to sort it out..

you usually should run games in a clean environment meaning you disabled all services and background apps you aren't using because you are playing a game.. and when you restart your computer all your services will come back anyway..

if you dont know how to do this post here again..

I can't find my parts list/receipt so I can't quite remember the exact specifications of the PC if anyone knows how i can go back and check let me know.

So the problem I'm having is on all my games I am having extreme lag/stuttering for no reason! Or at least no reason that this computer shouldn't be able to handle it, for example on skyrim, when i put it on ultra settings I have stuttering around large locations, I noticed that when i turned shadows to low though the stuttering was SEVERELY less but still there. Nothing has been overclocked. It is all brand new from the boxes.

The problem I'm having is a Framerate Stutter/Slowdown. It happens on all DirectX and OpenGL games I have tried, on even the lowest quality settings (X3:TC, RA3, rFactor, GPBikes, TDU, PES2009, Trainz06, ArmA, BF2, FS:X). What happens is, the game will run great (40fps+) for anything from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, then for about 6 seconds it will drop to single figures, before running great again for another 30 seconds to 2 minutes or so. This is very annoying!

I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. I have the AMD Dual Core Optimizer installed, Microsoft Update KB896256 andAMD Processor Driver Version 1.3.2.0053. I have tried several different versions of the nForce drivers, as well as the GeForce drivers.

I don't think it's a graphics card issue though, as I took the 9800gt out, and put it into an older system, and it runs great there. I also put a ATI X1950 pro into this new system, and it does exactly the same thing (random stuttering, though with a lower starting framerate an... Read more

Hello,

I've been getting stuttering in games ever since I got my new GTX 960 4Gb and installed it. Regardless of whether it's 30fps or 120fps, I get a tiny pause every second or so, very noticable while in motion. Here's a list of what I've tried/observations I've made so far:

- I tried wiping the drivers clean in safe mode and reinstalling, didn't help.
- Tried rolling back to an older version of drivers, no dice.
- Ran a mem test, no problems found.
- Put my older card, a GTX 750 Ti back in, still happening (what the hell?)

- Disk usage while playing games is very minimal, not maxing out.
- CPU does max out while playing games, maybe a bottleneck?
- With the GTX 960 in, I noticed it rarely goes above 50% gpu usage during gameplay.

Any help you can offer is appreciated! Thanks!

Hello!
I've been having an issue with limited success. I recently bought a new laptop for gaming and noticed a really annoying bug that has surfaced.

Laptop Stats:
CPU: Intel Core i7 Processor 720QM (1.6Ghz, 6MB, L3 Cache)
Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850 1 Gig
Ram: 8 GB Ram
HDD: 2x500 Gig Western Digital Hard drives

The issue is that in games, when something new would happen, the computer would freeze and the
sound would stutter for 1-5 seconds. So of course if I played LONG enough it would go away, but once I started the game again the issue would come up. I found that downloading CrystalDiskInfo and disabling APM fixed the issue for some games.

Games that I've had the issue: World of Warcraft, Counter-strike: Source, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress 2, Dragon Age, Last Scenario.

Games that I haven't had ONE issue with: Singularity, Dragon Age 2.

Now World of Warcraft was resolved due to Disabling APM.

Here is a list of things that I've tried:

- Updated all Drivers
- Used CrystalDiskMark on both Hard drives (Will post data)
- Ran EventViewer and noticed that when there was a stutter the Hardrive Spiked for the time of the freeze.
- Played with the APM
-Uninstalled the SATA AHCI Controller
-CheckDisk on both drives, no errors.

What makes me think it's a Hard Drive issue (or possibly a Driver issue) is because whenever the freeze happens the Hard drive light is on the entire time. I have two hard drives, all the games (save one) are installed th... Read more

Hey, about a week ago, the mouse I use for my laptop started stuttering. At first I thought it was a problem with Minecraft, as it was only happening if I played Beta or Classic. But it later got worse, it started happening outside of Minecraft and the mouse often freezes completely, and I have to unplug and then plug the mouse back into the USB port. That works for up to several minutes max, then the lagging returns again. Sometimes the lagging even returns seconds after plugging the mouse back in. The built-in trackpad on the laptop doesn't seem to stutter or freeze, but using that is a pain and tedious when doing certain tasks.

I was using a Microsoft Intellipoint mouse at the time the problem started. And thought that it could be a driver issue and that the mouse drivers would've been be out of date. Turned out they were already up-to-date though, and the driver updates come through Windows Update. After that, I swapped mice. I got another mouse from my desktop PC, and hoped that would help fix the problem. Well, nope. I still get the same stuttering and freezes. And the mice seem to work normally on the desktop. I also tried blowing out the USB ports and adapters for the mice to see if dust was causing the problem. That didn't help either. Then I thought maybe it was the mouse pad I was using, but turns out that wasn't the problem either.

Edit: the LED lights on the second mouse remain lit even when the mouse pointer has frozen.

Hi there,

I have been having problems with my desktop for the past 4-5 months, have tried so much and looked on almost
every thread relating to lag and stuttering without finding a solution.

I have had the PC for nearly 3 years, built myself.

Specs:
CPU: Intel i7 7700k ( swaped to a celeron G3930)
GPU: Geoforce 1070 (taken out for testing)
Motherboard: MSI z270 pro carbon (swaped to an ASUS prime z270-P for testing)
Power supply: EVGA Supernova 850 W Gold G2
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz (tried individually)
Storage: Samsung 960 EVO M.2 (boot drive) and a Seagate BarraCuda

The problem occurs every 5-10 minutes with normal use, but every 20-30 seconds while playing games. This becomes more often for both the longer the computer is turned on for.

Things I have tried software wise:
-Clean install of windows 10
-Update/reinstall drivers for every component
-Change resolution and refresh rate of the monitor
-Disable prefetch and superfetch

There are no errors in event manager leading me to assume this problem is due to hardware. I have tried unplugging my GPU
and using my CPU's onboard graphics, the problem still occurs.

Screen recording of what the freezing looks like:

This problem 100% is not related to:

You post that the problem is 100% not ram however I do not see where you tested the ram and what you used to test? Unless you use something like memtest and or prime95 [ram test] for a minimum of 1hr, then you really do not know if the problem is ram or not.

I have checked the PSU readings in the BIOS, there are no anomalous readingsClick to expand...

While this has some validity, it does not test under a load [which is where a pw supply would most likely have problems]
If you want to test a pw supply, you use the motherboard mfg's monitoring software while running prime95, OCCT, or IBT [intel burn test] If by chance your board mfg does not have monitoring software [which I know asus has] then you can use the intel extreme tuning utility. The intel utility will both monitor and do a stress test.

Other than a few minor hiccups, the only issue I seem to be having after upgrading to Windows 8 is some freezing and very slow performance. I may right-click something, or open a window, and it might take minutes instead of a fraction of a second. Sometimes, Explorer will crash or freeze. Other times, video/picture thumbnails will not be present, or may take a very long time to show up. Sometimes, I will open a folder, and it will display as if it is empty, even if it is full of files.
My computer is very fast, so I am unsure of what might be causing this. I scanned my drivers for errors, but they seem to be alright.

Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions!

Did you upgrade or do a clean install? I had similar issues when I ran in dual-boot mode and everything cleared up after I did a clean install. Check your drivers and be sure they're all up-to-date. Is your PC running hot? Does it always do the same thing or just after it's been running awhile?

Sometimes my computer would freeze or slow to a crawl, regardless of what I'm doing, even if it's idle. When it slows, the computer stutters every second or so (Task manager shows CPU usage go up and down every second) and everything takes a lot longer to open/close/etc. When restarting afterwards, sometimes I'd get "A disk read error occured, press ctrl alt del to restart", or it'll hang on "Detecting IDE Drives" and then it'd do this test thing and "Media test failure, check cable". I figure these are all related and it's the cause of faulty hardware, but I don't know what. Please help. I recently bought an Inspiron 9300. I am having problems running games on it because there is a lot of stuttering. Stuttering seems to happen more frequently when there is a lot of sound going on. It is so bad, that I can't play any of my games. I noticed that my video card and sound card are sharing the same IRQ. Could this be the cause of the stuttering? Also, in dxdiag, the test sound button gives me an error after testing the software buffers saying that my sound card does not support hardware buffering. My problem only occurs in games. Listening to mp3, or playing movies does not induce stuttering.

What I've tried so far:
- Updating to the latest Dell video and sound card drivers.
- Installling other video drivers like Xtreme-G.
- Flashing the bios to the most rercent version.
- Switching from "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" to "Standard PC". This one did not work because the PCI Express Root Port device was giving an error about not being able to free enough resources. Windows was not able to detect my video card because of this.
- Disabling hardware sound acceleration.

The only solution to the stuttering problem right now is to deactivate the sound card. Once I do this, the stuttering is gone in all of my games. I thought about purchasing a PCMCIA sound card but I heard that it didn't work with internal speakers.

I really need help on this one. I'm considering returning my laptop to Dell since I have three weeks to return it in case I&... Read more

Hello,

I'm having some problems for about 3-4 weeks now.

Up until the first BSoD I could load two games at the same time and feel like nothing was wrong or slow. Now when I try to do this (for w/e reason), the 2nd game I start either freeze or loads but when I'm moving the mouse it stutters to 1fps movement, sound too. This happens in both games, exactly the same.

If I don't do anything, main menu animation, music runs just fine...

When I try running a game, for example CS:GO. It works fine a bit, then randomly freeze + loop sound and can't tab out. Only after I End Task the program it goes to normal, or so it seems. Then after I try to reenter the game, it freezes again and I get BSoD.

Another thing I found is, while a game is open and I'm tab out in firefox for example; scrolling, general movement of the browser is not fluid and has some stutter. It lags even when I try to drag something on desktop.

Ran multiple malware scans, even in parted magic (virus scaner) on flash drive boot, nothing of note was found.

Thought the problem was because of some part of the video driver, so I uninstalled it. Rebooted in Safe Mode and ran Display Driver Uninstaller to be sure nothing was left from the previous one, reinstalled the latest one and the problem still persisted. Reinstalled Windows with fresh drivers, same problem.
Unistalled .Net Framework rebooted, then unistalled ATI VDriver, rebooted. Did a windows update and it installed a fresh .Net, restarted and after that I in... Read more

Hello, I had a XPS 8700, an old model to be honest. It had a GT635 1GB and an i7 4770k, 8GB RAM etc.
So, I've asked before in a few websites, including here about upgrading. I've bought a GTX 1050 2gb, and only that. I still have the MoBo from Dell and the processor that came with the computer.
So, from the day I bought the video card I'm suffering from a problem which I believe that is hardware related, because I have already tested almost everything. The upgrade was a perfect hit, I'm running almost every new game on favorable settings and perfomance. But the real problem is, in every game, even on the games which don't require high hardware, I'm suffering from stutters, freezes that occurs all the time and have a duration of 1 to 2 seconds. They happen every 5 seconds of playtime, and I've asked in more than 3 websites since the two last months (when I upgraded the GPU.)
I don't think the GPU is the problem as I've tested on another computer and didn't have any problems. So I think it is related to my computer. Last week I ran dell complete diagnostic program and it didn't find any problems. Nothing is overheating when I monitor the temps. CPU Usage is normal too. Memory isn't the problem either, so my last resort is to ask here, and I hope you guys can help me. I've always been satisfied with Dell, and they support for upgrades. So I hope we can solve this.

Hi there! This Saturday I received my new Ideapad 700 and I couldn't be more happy about it (just moved to the UK and didn't have a laptop/pc for 3 weeks) but there seems to be an issue I just can't resolve. Let's get to the problem : The first thing I did was to make sure that all my drivers were up to date and all the necessary updates were done. After that I proceeded to download Smite to test out how this entry level gaming machine was performing in a relatively light game. After booting it up and making sure that all the settings were set to max I tried playing a practice match against bots to see if there are any issues. At first everything was perfect, getting 85 FPS+ and very happy about it, but then I noticed random stuttering. What seems to be causing it are new "new" icons on the screen. For instance when I open up the shop menu,or when an enemy is being killed my screen just freezes sometimes for 0.5 seconds and sometimes for even more than 1. At first I thought that this was internet lag but then, after installing Portal (yes, the 2007 Portal) to see if either my internet connection or the graphics were causing it I noticed the same thing when something "new" was happening. Solutions I've tried. Downloaded and installed every update for Windows. Uninstalled and reinstalled Nvidia drivers Set the Nvidia GPU as my main GPU on every game I've tried (Note that this is quite likely not the cause of the problem s... Using PC Wizard, it tells me my graphics hardware is the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD. This is no problem since all the games I play are old or emulated. I can't seem to find a driver for it either.

OS is Win7 x64. Any help you can offer would be great!

During the past few days though, the computer has begun freezing. It's not so much as a full system freeze, as a stuttering. Audio playback begins to loop, and you can't do anything, but after a little while, the system returns to normal.

I have installed the latest video drivers, but haven't been able to think of much more than that.

Here's a list of the hardware.

I have an HP ProBook 4540s that stutters when accepting input via both keyboard and mouse. This happens not just in windows, but also in the BIOS itself. Issue is also present when booting to safe mode, and in POST. I am a bit stumped, but I have run a memtest from the UBCD and it checked out fine, as did my HDD. Any ideas?

Out of the box it would play games fine with no freezes. Windows and Graphics drivers updated once connected to the web and then it started freezing for a couple seconds in Wildlands and Watchdogs 2. It will also freeze in the Heaven benchmark from Unigine. It freezes for a couple seconds then will run for a couple seconds then freeze again. The freezes become more and more frequent.
The freezes will occur in the Heaven benchmark even on lower graphics settings.
GPU Temps are 70C and under while this is happening.
What I've tried:
1. Windows reset.
2. Windows fresh install
3. Staying with previous Graphics driver
4. Disabling Geforce Sharing
The freezing is still there.

Every time I listen to music or watch a video my computer seems to freeze or stutter for just a second. During this time the music screeches and everything hangs. I don't know if this only occurs when listening to music or watching a video, but it is the only time I notice.

I have tried disk defrag, updating drivers, cleaning my registry, disabling AVG resident shield and nothing seems to work. It is getting really annoying, so if anyone has any suggestion please let me know and thank you in advance.

Hi -

I suggest playing a song or video and shortly following the stuttering/freezing right- clicking on the taskmbar (at bottom) and selecting 'Task manager'.

This will open a new window in which J want you to switch to the 'Processes' tab at the top. Then expand the window and click on the bar that says 'Mem Usage'. The highest process should be listed at the top, in your reply post the top 4 processes along with their name and memory usage. It might be that your CPU is struggling to keep up.

Regards,

- Jon

I recently put together a HTPC out of some old parts, but when I try to stream videos from Hulu, Neftlix, and the likes, I get very poor performance. Netflix is watchable, with only occasional freezing, but the audio is slightly off sink from the video. Hulu on the other hand is extremely slow, and in full screen the video becomes a slideshow. Through the task manager, I can see that while streaming from Netflix I get around 60-70% CPU usage, while from Hulu I get a flat out 100%. I have installed available updates, including the most recent nVidia drivers, and flash 10.1, which is supposed to have GPU acceleration. Neither of those helped in the slightest bit.

Here are the specs:

Commell LV-670 ITX motherboard
Celeron 2.6
1 Gb DDR
GeForce 8400gs
Windows Server 2008

I know this is not a very powerful system, but it handles DVDs relatively smoothly, though there is still high CPU usage with them. I have tried multiple browsers as well, and have noticed no difference between them.

Any ideas on how to get GPU accelerated flash working, or how to improve streaming performance in general?

Thanks,

-TC

A:Video Streaming Stuttering/Freezing

sounds more like a network issue than anything... check for conflicts and update network drivers if necessary. i don't understand why CPU usage is so high but perhaps a network protocol or service is hogging res? download process explorer to get a better picture of what's going on why the streaming is running.

Hi,

Bit of a story, but my z97 itx motherboard, and I was not able to replace it, so I got a z170 + 6700 thinking everything was going to be okay.

Now that I've installed it, I'm experiencing massive DCP latency, stuttering and random freezes (no overheating).

First I bought a Asus z170 itx Pro gaming board, and this was a aboslute nightmare, and the board was terrible (disconnecting my bluetooth devices, not connecting to 5ghz network etc. stuff like that.) So I returned that, and bought a Msi Ac gaming board, hoping the DCP latency was a part of the board, but nay.

Now I've tried a fresh install of windows 10 twice (once where I installed the drivers from Msi) no help, and then I tried to do a another fresh install and let windows install the drivers, but still no luck.

I've disabled NIC and onboard sound drivers.

Heres a pastebin from Latencymon:

I just really don't get it. My z97 system ran like a dream with no problems what so ever, and now this nightmare...

I can se that dxgkrnl is pretty high up, but this is the same driver that I had on my old z97 board, and I can't see why it should be a problem all of a sudden.

Hi,

I'll try to keep this brief.

I purchased my HP Probook 4530s off my friend last week. Naturally, I formatted it to give a fresh install of Windows. Since then I have been having this issue:

Laptop freezing up - YouTube

Watch the video above, as you can hear the video lags/stutters as well as the sound 'buzzing'. The mouse lags across the screen and for some reason the internet disconnects during this time. The only way to fix this is to restart the laptop, although is happens again.

I have re installed Windows 3 times now and every time I get the issue.

I notice it the most under the following circumstances:

-Awaken PC from sleep mode
-Run laptop on battery power

In saying that, it is completely random. I was just in a Skype call on battery power and it was fine. I hung up and then rang someone again and it started freezing/buzzing/stuttering. The internet disconnected and I had to restart the laptop for fix it.

What on earth is causing this? The laptop worked perfectly before I formatted it the first time.

Specs:

W7
HP Probook 4530s
i5 2430m 2.4GHz
8 GB RAM
HD 6490

Please and thank you for anyone who can offer any advice!

A:Laptop Freezing/Stuttering Randomly During Use

I believe I have narrowed it down to my network card.

I guess it would make sense why the internet disconnects when I get those issues, but why would it freeze up my system?

I ran the DPC latency checker, and sure enough after 5 minutes on battery, I got the issue. I disabled things in device manager 1 by 1 and found when I disable my "802.11n Wireless LAN Card" the issue INSTANTLY goes away. Re-enabling it brings the issue back again.

I've tried updating the card's drivers yet it doesn't change the driver version of the card.

Help?

Need Help
My old laptop has been having a stuttering problem with games for a couple of years now. It?ll stutter for around five seconds, run smooth for around ten seconds, stutter again for five, run smooth for ten. It?ll keep doing that until I stop playing and close the game. It doesn?t start doing the stutter the second I start the game, it?ll start maybe around five minutes into the game and not quit its pattern. It doesn?t matter what game, how old it is, it does this to all.

It also does this while watching online videos. I can?t watch anything on, for example, Hulu, or Gametrailers, without it doing the same stutter pattern.

I didn?t always have this annoyance. It started little over a year after I bought my laptop. During all this time, while putting up with the problem, I?ve done several clean installs. I?ve tried to solve this myself, but never could find anyone with the same exact problem.

I?ve uploaded several videos that show the stutter problem:
MrTatakichi's Channel - YouTube

Also, here's my hardware & processes:

Any help will definitely be appreciated, thank you.

A:Stuttering Problem in All Games & Online Videos

Well, 761 MHz processor speed is way too slow for any modern games. You can check go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. The command prompt box appears, press Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk Utility will check the integrity of the drive. You can also click on the PC Running Slow? link in my signature and try those things. Other then that, you need a faster computer.

Typical of a bad sound card... I suspect your Audigy 4 Soundblaster has cooked its own goose from long use.

Hi, recently I downloaded Age of Conan. I started playing yesterday and the game was really choppy all the time and it made the game unplayable. I thought my laptop was just not good enough to run the game but I tried playing Oblivion and World of Warcraft and both seem to be just as choppy. This has never been a problem before and both of these games always ran fine. I tried offline games also and the same thing happens so its not my internet connection. I defraged and also updated drivers but neither worked. What can I do to fix this problem? Thanks

My specs are:
