Dell Studio 1535 wont start. Blinking mute and volume up button, solid volume down button.

Q: Dell Studio 1535 wont start. Blinking mute and volume up button, solid volume down button.

Hi,

My Dell Studio has just crashed and wont restart. The mute and volume up buttons are flashing and the volume down button is solidly lit. I could not find the diagnostic code when searching the internet. I could find pretty much every other diagnostic code apart from this one.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Andy

Preferred Solution: Dell Studio 1535 wont start. Blinking mute and volume up button, solid volume down button.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Dell community!
As you have correctly pointed out, the diagnostic code that you have mentioned is not among the codes available to isolate the failure for a Studio 1535 laptop. The closest code is: blinking Mute LED and Volume up LED, and an off Volume down LED which is for USB controller initialization failure. Disconnect any external devices connected and try powering on the computer.
Reseating the memory modules too can help us. Please refer the following link for the Studio 1535 service manual for instructions: http://bit.ly/10PrLgH
If issue persists, the laptop’s motherboard has to be replaced. Refer the following link to check the computer’s warranty status: http://dell.to/10pMa86
If the computer has active warranty, please send me the service tag and registered owner’s name on the computer in a Private Message. To send me a Private Message, click my User name, and then click Start Conversation.
If the warranty on the computer has expired, you may contact our expired warranty services to purchase/replace the compatible parts. Please refer the following link that has contact details for our Expired Warranty Services: http://dell.to/14FoBtb

Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum and have had the below issue for about a week now.
I've been looking for solutions in this forum and online but nothing worked or matched the symptoms.
Symptoms are :
The computer when powered up does not start,
Screen remains black,
Touch sounds buttons mute and raise volume blink in unison,
Lower sound button remain on,
This is for a Dell Studio 1535 I have had for 7 years. Running windows 8 for 4/5 months now.
I have tried : A solution by Krypebud posted here 6 years ago : which was to download the firmware ISO I and reboot the computer. This did not work.
I have also checked that the screen does not work on a second monitor : it does not.
Additionally I have tried the LCD BIST test which works fine, no distortions, colours all seem fine.

Would anyone know needs to be done here ? (apart from buying a new laptop)
Please be simple in your explanations I have very little knowledge of computers, assume I have no idea about anything.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Greg

Hello guys
I'm having a problem with my Dell studio 1535 running Windows 7 64bit.
When I power on the system, the screen goes blank. Then the volume up and mute buttons keep flashing while the volume down button is on but doesn't flash.
I have connected it to an external monitor but I don't find any display in the beginning and after sometime a weird screen with an array of square blocks of different colours come up.
I have tried the LCD bist test and the results are grey blank red green blue white blank red green.
Also the Bluetooth lights up and goes off and then becomes steady.
I haven't tried opening the system.
Could anyone diagnose the issue?
Thank you

Sounds like a bad GPU - which means a replacement mainboard is needed.

Sounds like your keys are not mapped correctly. Does HP have some utiliity that does that for your system?

Also check the control panel and keyboard. You might be able to map those keys there.

My Yoga 13 volume up/volume down buttons (hardware buttons on the side of the unit) were working fine for a few weeks and then all of sudden decided to invert themselves (i.e., in laptop mode, pushing the button closer to me would make volume go UP and pushing the button further away from me would make the volume go DOWN).  Same thing in tablet (landscape orientation with camera on top) and stand modes - pushing the upper button made volume go down and vice versa.  The only time the volume buttons would work logically is in tent mode where pushing the upper button made the volume go up and pushing the lower button made the volume go down (but only by happenstance because the unit is "inverted" and the volume buttons happen to be inverted as well).  I don't recall if these buttons automatically switched orientation when the unit is rotated, but now it's always fixed in the up is down and down is up position in 3 out of 4 modes. Minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless on an expensive new laptop.  Any idea on a fix?

A:Yoga 13 Volume Up Button and Volume Down Button inverted bug/problem

I was about to write back with a snarky email about how the volume button is fixed in one position and the orientation makes most sense in tablet mode and that to expect any more was crazy. I was going to argue how this is no different than any tablet which can be used in reverse landscape mode - the volume control is backwards. I was just about to point you to the manual where I was sure that it would state that the button closest to the front of the keyboard is volume down up.... But then I read page 8 of the User Guide: http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/user_guides/yoga13_ug_en.pdf Where it clearly labels the volume buttons back to front. So I dont' know. I give up. Your guess is as good as mine. Though orientation specific volume controls might be useful (I bet it would just add to the confusion).

I just bought a 2016 Inspiron 15 touchscreen laptop one month ago.  However, the volume button on the side changes the volume on the display, yet when I have an application such as spotify or youtube opened up, the only way I can change the volume is by changing it on that application.  It is essentially like my computer is either at 100 volume or muted, yet the display reads all values in between.  If it is even on 2, it is essentially on max volume for the desktop.  If I have my volume enabled(not on mute), I can change it fine by moving the dial on spotify and so forth, but its an inconvenience especially when I'm currently doing a design project or homework and I need to turn down the music.  I've updated all my audio drivers and my laptop is up do date.  I have checked the volume settings and have seen nothing out of the ordinary.  Please let me know of any suggestions.  Thanks!

My Studio 1535 (laptop with Vista) suddenly stopped showing any display a few days ago.  I have tried disconnecting the power cord and the battery, and doing a shutdown by holding down the power key, but none of these methods have had any effect.  I have had nothing but a blank screen, but when I attach an external monitor, everything is operating properly on the external monitor, so it doesn't seem to be a processor issue.  The day this started, I went to boot up the computer and there was a lot of beeping going on, so I had to remove the batter and the power cord to make it stop.
I also have flashing volume control keys, and was wondering if that might be a clue to what is going on, and what needs to be corrected?  The Mute key and the Volume Up key are flashing on and off at the same time.  The Volume Down key is steadily on.  I will say that prior to about two weeks ago, the Media shortcut keys had all stopped working for about a year.  Suddenly they started working again, (and actually continue to work), but the monitor is just a black screen.  Any idea if this could be a backlight issue, video chip issue or something else?  I'd like to at least be able to salvage the laptop for my kids to use if the fix is not too expensive.  Thanks!
(This all began after a recent iTunes update, but I'm not thinking that is related.  Just throwing it out there.)

A:Studio 1535 monitor not displaying, volume controls flashing

Hi DraagynLady,
Let's try the following steps and see it works.Run the LCD BIST.
To run the LCD BIST (Built in Self-test):

Power off the computer
Press and hold the D key on the keyboard while pressing the power button, then release both at the same time.
This will initiate A grey screen, then Red, then Blue, then Green, then White

I would recommend you to check the status of the volume keys. You may watch the video for possible LED codes that may display with the possible failure:

When I use the volume button on my keyboard, it doesn't change unless its turned all the way down therefore muting it. But I want to go back to controlling the volume using the volume button on my keyboard. Help please!

You have three options.
(1) Send the motherboard in to be repaired (poor choice) I have used this option several times. Fast fail again rate is very high. You can easily find people on ebay that fix boards.
(2) Get a new motherboard if you love the laptop and it is very good condition other wise
(3) Junk it and get a new laptop (best option)

Hi, The 'up' volume button on the side of my laptop (Pavilion x360) seems to be stuck. I tried pressing the button and restarting my laptop in hope to fix it but it didn't work at all. I thought it was a problem with the RealTek Audio installed to my laptop. I tried countless ways to fix RealTek audio, but that also didn't work. So there is probably a physical problem. On my laptop, there is three ways to change the volume. The button on the keyboard, the button on the side of my laptop and the speaker icon on the screen. There was no problem with the volume buttons on the keyboard and there is no problem with RealTek Audio. I found out that the side volume button is jammed. Hi guys, I've recently come across an extremely annoying problem that I cannot find an answer to, hence why I'm posting here. There's actually two problems, but I have a feeling they're both linked. Anyway...

The first problem I have is with my volume buttons. Usually I'd be able to control my laptops volume by using these buttons (volume up, volume down and mute), but they've suddenly stopped working. I've done a few Google and forum searches and the majority of people put it down to having the wrong drivers installed. So over I go (time and time again) to the HP website, search for my laptop model, download and install the drivers, but to no avail. The only time I can get these buttons to work is when I run QuickPlay - every other time I try and use them they don't work. Any tips or advice on this would be great!

The second problem I have is with my sound. Sound from programs such as MSN and iTunes work fine, but sound from YouTube, SkySports video player etc don't work for some silly reason. I can see the video fine, there is just no sound. Another thing I've noticed is the Windows start-up/shutdown sounds don't work either. Again, any tips or advice on this would be lovely

Finally, the laptop I have is a HP Pavilion DV5000 which is running Windows XP Home Edition. Hope this helps!

Hey there

I have a problem with my HP pavilion g6 (running on windows 7) cursor and my volume button.

When I use my touchpad to click and hold or drag items, if I hold on the right button for about 2 1/2 seconds and let go, it would carry on doing so until I click again. I thought it was a problem with the touchpad so I used my usb mouse instead and the problem is still happening.

About the volume button, when I'm watching something on youtube, if I click on the video and then lower the volume, it wont work unless I click out of the video.

I have run scans to check for any viruses but none are detected or affecting it.

Please help me solve this problem its making me crazy!!!

Help!
Take a look at the screen shot below.  Notice the mute button is checked on and I cannot get it to turn off.  Notice the volume icon in the top left...this appears on all screens and won't go away.
I have uninstalled and reloaded realtek audio drivers, have also reinstalled keyboard drivers.  I have used the dell audio trouble shooter and all it says is that volume is low and mute is on.  I have used the msconfig to check that audio etc are turned on.  The manual sound button on the right can override the mute for a second, but then the volume just goes down and to mute.  The FN buttons seems to work as the increase volume button does override for a second and then volume goes down....this is driving me crazy!  Thanks for any suggestions

I suppose a run of these would not do any harm.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs and you could drop the /r switch in chkdsk unless you feel it necessary. I am assuming the machine is not brand new of course.

Can someone PLEASE help me disable the touch bar on the HP 6530b laptop? The volume button is causing issues so I would just like to disable the whole thing at this point.

It seems that the volume is "possessed" and keeps trying to go to Max volume. There is a scroll bar to increase and decrease volume on the touch bar area. With this issue you can lower the volume using the touch scroll or even the manual task bar tray icon but the volume continues to return to full volume soon as you release it. I have tried unsuccessfully to find a way to disable the touch bar completely.

A:Volume touch bar button HP6530b laptop

if you take the battery out of the laptop there are usually 3 screws that hold the volume/button bar. Unscrew them take the plastics off and disconnect the bar. If you don't feel comfortable opening your laptop up to do this. I do laptop repairs in birmingham and quite often have to crack open laptops.

as the volume slider is physical it can not be stopped via a software control or reg edit. This is your only choice. Try youtube for a guide on how to dissemble.

I have a Lenovo T530 and am using Windows 10 and recently had to replace the keyboard because a few buttons were just plain gone (don't ask). I'm not sure if it's the Lenovo, the keyboard or Windows 10 that are causing these problems, but I am beginning to think it's Windows 10. I apologize in advance for the long post. Despite the keyboard being new and installed and working very well (as is obvious from the fact that I'm typing on it right now), the backlight is not working, even on startup. I made sure when I purchased the keyboard that the backlight was included and there's even that little symbol on the spacebar indicating that it should. While this is not the end of the world, the volume buttons have completely stopped working. I can control the volume on the computer through the keyboard's volume buttons after startup for about a minute, but as soon as I click a single program or open an application or something I can no longer control the volume through the volume buttons. I can still use most of the other hotkey buttons (barring Fn+F5 and Fn+F6, but I never used those even when they did work). I have tried updating a few drivers and uninstalling and reinstalling drivers in multiple times in multiple ways and checking things in BIOS and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions other than a system restore or something along those lines since I had a similar audio problem on my last keyboard with the audio and it went away with a new windows update. Hi! So my Yoga 2 just turned 2 years old a few days ago and now it's acting up; the volume display keeps going up to max volume and every time I try to mute the laptop it just keeps showing that green bar notification. My touchpad doesn't work (but my mouse does), and if I have a program that has more than one window (i.e. word documents or chrome windows), then it cancels out when I hover towards the window. I know that my up volume button is jammed since every time I try to turn it down it just goes up again. Is it possible to disable my physical volume keys so the jammed button won't register and keep changing the volume?

Evening all,

Just bought the above mentioned "acer aspire 5735z" about 1 hour ago. Straight away we noticed that the volume bar on the main screen remains on. When ever we turn the volume down using the physical volume buttons it returns to full volume. This is also true for the volume control in the toolbar.

Im thinking Factory Fault (broken button) but just incase there is something that we are missing perhaps in property settings? Anyone add anything else ?

All views and replies appreciated!

Regards
Marcan

So I contracted a virus earlier via RegCleanPro/Sys Tweak something-or-other. I think I managed to purge it all, but something remains. The start button that was down at the bottom left of my screen is now at the top left, and it blinks. When I try to click on it, either left or right, it goes away so I can't do much with it. I can't even drag it down to where it once was. Any suggestions?

A:Blinking Start Button

Try running System Restore to a date prior to the occurence of the problem.

Good luck.
