X250: possible to have BOTH M.2 SSD and WWAN card?

Q: X250: possible to have BOTH M.2 SSD and WWAN card?

Hi, I recently purchased Sierra AirPrime EM7345 for my ThinkPad X250 & when opening the chassis to find already installed in the M.2 slot was a SanDisk 16GB SSD Sata card. There was only one slot for either momery card or WWAN card, I choose to install WWAN card but would also need memory card. How to have both at the sometime? Is it possible to add another M.2 slot or will have to use an external SSD M.2? Thanks.

Preferred Solution: X250: possible to have BOTH M.2 SSD and WWAN card?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: X250: possible to have BOTH M.2 SSD and WWAN card?

wilson638,there isn't separate slot for small SSD. This laptop can be equipped by the 2nd 2.5" drive (SSD including) in the DVD bay via adapter.Note, you have to remove cache application (Express Cache) before removing of the m.2 SSD.

Hello, I have the Thinkpad X250 and would like to install the WWAN module. Can you please advise the exact model?I have tried the EM7455 but got the following error after power on: 1802 unauthorized network card is plugged in Thank you in advance,Noam

A:X250 - WWAN module

EM7455 isn't a whitelisted WWAN module for your X250 - it was whitelisted for Skylake's ThinkPad generation devices. There are two dedicated WWAN modules for your device:- FRU: 04W3842, Ericsson N5321 HSPA+ 21Mbps M.2 WWAN.- FRU: 04X6014, Sierra EM7345 LTE/HSPA+ 42Mbps M.2 Card. You must buy a module with correct FRU on label. There are generic modules available on the market, but they won't work with your X250, as BIOS will detect them as unauthorized devices.

Hi! I have a T430 2347CTO. The notebook has an Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac) adapter installed. 1. The WLAN adapter is causing problems and I'd like to replace it, but I'm not sure what I should install instead. Any tips? 2. I'd like to install a WWAN adapter, but I'm not sure if my model has the required antenna installed. Does anybody know if it has?

A:Thinkpad T430 - replace WLAN card and add WWAN card

I confirmed that this WLAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-wifi-Card-for-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230-T430-60Y...

And I also confirmed this WWAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gobi3000-3G-WWAN-Card-60Y3257-for-Thinkpad-X220-X230-T420-T430-W520-W530/22...

The WLAN card is N wireless; and the WWAN card is 3G.  The ones I linked to are shipping from the US and the best price I could find.

Hope that helps!

I have recently acquired an X250 Thinkpad for work. As said work takes me well outside of Wifi areas, I have also acquired a SIM card to use with the built-in EM7345. However, while that worked originally (I inserted the card, it was recognized, I changed the PIN), the laptop no longer recognizes the sim when inserted. The solution suggested in another thread (enable WWAN in BIOS) does not apply to me, as it is enabled. My SIM card works in other devices, however, different SIM cards are also not recognized. Any ideas?I've switched the pre-installed Windows 7 for Windows 10, but the changed of PIN was already in Windows 10, so I doubt it had anything to do with that.

Can anyone say if I purchased the Sierra em7345 card for my x1 Carbon, which carrier (in USA) will I have to get a service plan with? Can It work with any carrier?

A:X1 Carbon 3rd Gen WWAN Card

HelloIt's simpler to answer about carrier and access mode (LTE, 3g) you prefer as this modem supports dozen of the US operators as well doesn't support a big part of them, including market leaders like Sprint, or supports partially (i.e.not every frequency band the carrier operates in). Also, not every operator's network covers entire US area.

Can an X240 laptop have both an M.2 SSD and a WWAN card simultaneously installed?  Or is there only a single M.2 port such that you can only have one or the other? Also, if you buy an X240 that comes from the factory with an SSD, is the factory SSD an M.2 SSD, or a 2.5" SATA3 SSD? Thanks.

A:Can x240 have both an M.2 SSD AND a WWAN card?

Read the PSREF for x240 options:SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high, removable, upgradableDouble-sided M.2 SSD, via M.2 Card slot, exclusive with WWAN cardSingle-sided M.2 SSD, via M.2 Card slot, exclusive with Smart Card readerSo x240 can be configured even with 3 drives simultaneously:- 2.5" SSD or HDD- m.2 SSD- m.2 cache SSDWWAN card could be installed instead of the 2nd m.2 SSD, seems PFREF has a fault, look at the HMM for confirmation. If you purchase x240 from the shop.lenovo there is a couple conditions:- in order to get 3rd m.2 slot and cache SSD you should choose basic model with HDD. System Expansion Slot for the cache m.2 SSD will be added automatically; - or choose the model with 2.5" SSD. In this case you should add Smart Card Reader which could be equipped with 3rd m.2 SSD slot. But it's not all - you should find on aftermarket or purchase from Lenovo service center adapter and cable for the 3rd m.2 SSD youself. Look at x240' HMM and fru_bom file for details.Note cache m.2 SSD from Lenovo has a small capacity, so you should replace it to your choice. The only limitation is the formfactor - it should be single-sided 22x42 mm to fit into the slot. So the nomenclature and capacity are limited.

How can I add a wireless card to the Carbon X1?  The original answer was "can't be done" becuase the computer is a sealed case and has no capability for it.  I call BS!!  The computer obviously has a slot for it, a Sim card holder, and the option to order it from the factory with wireless.  How to add wireless to a non-wireless Carbon X1?

Moderator note: edited subject to match content.  Was:  Docking stations for X1 Carbon.

A:X1 Carbon: add WWAN card

You don't say which generation X1C you have, but AFAIK you can add a WWAN card.  Instructions are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your particular model.

The challenge will be antennas if they aren't already installed, and finding a card that passes the BIOS whitelist.

This isn't something I can address in detail, but if you'll list your MT-M - like 20FB002SUS as an example of a WWAN-upgradable unit - others will probably be able to help.  (Upgradable means that the antennas are already in place.)

FWIW,
Z.

Hello, I have Lenovo U410 and this laptop has served me great for several years now. However, I want to fit it with a 4G network alongside with WiFi (I find phones to be a hindrance). I know there's some alternatives, like using an external modem, but I want it to be obscure rather than having this large thing stuck on my USB port. Is there any card that this laptop supports? Currently I'm looking into WiMAX thing but I can't seem to figure out how it works. It also seems dead, which is disappointing. I know that it's stupid that I've read the manuals about the supported cards yet I still ask this question. The thing that I want to know is, how likely will it be supported using a hacked BIOS? Because I saw some people use hacked BIOS to use 'unsupported' cards, and it works fine. Thanks!

I'm trying to figure whether I can use WWAN card for my T450 (20BUS08U00, serial number PC*****)

I found compatibility matrix http://www.lenovo.com/accessoriesguide , downloaded the latest one (Aug 2017, https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/options_iso/ocm_august_2017.xlsx ), and it says that any modification of T450 is not compatible with any WWAN card, which does not seem true: my laptop has a sim card slot, and if I remove the bottom cover, I can see there are two (seemingly) antenna cables: orange and blue. Also, I see this post https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/is-my-thinkpad-T450-wwan-ready/td-p/3334... where the topic starter also has T450 and it's WWAN-ready. So it looks like the compatibility matrix is wrong.

I tried to use partslookup by serial number ( http://support.lenovo.com/bg/en/partslookup ), but it doesn't return anything about SIM card reader or WWAN antenna, so I'm totally confused. Could anyone help please?

Also, if the laptop is WWAN-ready, I assume EM7345 should work. However, there are two different FRUs: 04X6014 ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Thinkpad-Sierra-Gobi5000-EM7345-4G-LTE-Module-NGFF-Card-FRU-04X6014-/1922050...) and 04X6092 ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Levovo-GOBI5000-Wireless-AirPrime-EM7345-M-2-NGFF-FRU-04X6092-4G-LTE-Car...). So which one should I pick?

Thanks

A:WWAN card for T450 (20BUS08U00)

Hi, dimonomidlet me help you.you wrote:> it says that any modification of T450 is not compatible with any WWAN card, which does not seem trueexactly, there is information about wwan cards on the "TP T" tab, "Wireless Networking/WAN" section - em7345 and N5321. The latter is collapsed (row #468), probably, because of OCM version is new while the laptop model is almost EOL.> but it doesn't return anything about SIM card reader or WWAN antenna, so I'm totally confused. choose "MT" option on that partslookup page and you'll see the SIM tray and WWAN antennas set parts:Antenna,WWAN+WLAN,AMPFRU,SIM,Tray, for UMABTW, the sim card tray and reader are installed in all T450 laptops, disregarding wwan antennas or modem options. You had made sure yourself the WWAN antennas are installed:>  if I remove the bottom cover, I can see there are two (seemingly) antenna cables: orange and blue. 04X6014 is a part compatible with your laptop.04X6092 - is the wwan card for a couple of the ThinkPad tablets and convertibles. AFAIK the real FRUs differences are a location sensor presence and firmware images. Fot further similar questions: the list of compatible parts is in the fru_bom file, the link is in my post in the thread you've linked above.

I am installing an EM7455 WWAN card in my P70. The User Guide states that the SIM used by the system is a Micro-card. When I called Verizon Wireless to obtain a 4G-LTE card, they could not find the P70 in their database. However, they said they knew the size and shipped me a SIM card. Unfortunately, it was the incorrect SIM-card size (apparently there are multiple) so I have to obtain the correct card from a Verizon store when the WWAN arrives from China. The model number of the card needs to end in 3FF-A. It would have been really convenient if the Verizon SIM card was orderable on the Lenovo website at the same time as I ordered the EM7455 from the Accessories storefront.

T470 20HDCTO1WW?I5-7200U?8GB+16GB DDR4?INTEL 520 480GB SSD?INTEL HD620?WWAN upgradeable? I bought two type of Sierra EM7455 (MODEL:EM7455 FRU PN:00JT545/MODEL:EM7455 FRU PN:1AX746) and put these in my T470. But the win10 can't recognize the modem after cold start. The modem is invisible in the system. I followed the instuctions .BIOS -> I/O Ports Access  -> Wireless WAN" -> enabled disable the internal battery before inserting the card I found this wwan card compatible issue has been discussed many times and the end of these case doesn't have a good answer.

Hello All, I'm looking under the hood of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon, and I'm trying to identify the PCIe slots.  In particular, the following page states that I should have 2 PCI Express Mini slots:  https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd027202 Now I see the WLAN card and the WWAN card, and my natural assumption is that these are both in PCIe ports, but on closer inspection I see that the WLAN card's slot is only 19mm wide, whereas the WWAN card is the standard 26mm width of normal PCIe Mini ports. This raises some questions:  1. Is the WLAN connected to a proprietary slot, or is this just a different type of PCIe standard?  2. If the WLAN is connected to a proprietary slot, where is my second PCIe slot? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az

A:Why is my WLAN card slot narrower than my WWAN card slot (PCIe mini)?

On closer inspection, it looks like my SSD connects to a similar-looking slot as my WLAN card.  I guess this means my WLAN card uses a SATA connection or something? I normally work with desktop PCs, so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of these laptop hardware standards. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az-

Hi, Appreciate if you can propose workable WWAN Card module that can operate and have the 4G/LTE functional in Malaysia. I'm using the HP EliteBook Folio 9470m with Windows 10 Professional (64-bit) installed on-board. I hv surf through and the only recommended WWAN Card is HP hs2350 HSPA+ Mobile Broadband Module which limited to 3G coverage. Is HP lt2522 LTE/EV-DO Mobile Broadband Module- U.S. only* (no Win 8 support), workable in Malaysia i.e,  Kuala Lumpur?  Rgds,Firdaus

Hi TP users. Want to share my positive expirience with recent WWAN LTE card installation.1. Order EM7455 card. I did it here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-Sierra-wireless-AirPrime-EM7455-4G-WWAN-LTE-MODULE-FRU-00JT.... No affiliation, just the chipest option I was able to find (~$70).2. Wait ~2 weeks.3. Install card: unscrew 5 bolts on bottom, open cover, insert card, connect antenna. Blue wire to blue pin (aux), red wire to red pin (main). Close the cover.4. Insert SIM. Important to do it before power up, otherwise you will see "Insert SIM" message next to cellular connection.5. Cellular connection shows my carrier (T-Mobile) name and "No service" next it.6. Install latest driver: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds112204. It will also flush the card with latest firmware.7. Done. Even with my poor signal at home (12%) speedtest.net shows 30Mbps download, 10Mbps upload, 40ms ping. Usefull commands to diagnostic:netsh mbn sh intnetsh mbn sh cap int=*It will show you firmware, signal level, and some other usefill stuff. Thanks,Alex.
