I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a problem in the touchpad, it doesn't work at all, (doesn't appear in device manager and the pointer disappears when i unplug the USB mouse) I tried all methods, the fn +f6, updated Bios, updated Drivers, re-installed Windows, even I made a test with a Linux live CD and everything worked except the touchpad. In BIOS there isn't any options regarding the touchpad as wellI was wondering if there is something needed to be enabled in firmware? I wonder. what can I do at this point, I am using an external USB mouse, but I need the touchpad to be working as well.* the laptop is new, there is no physical damage at all

I got this issue for a long time. Don't know if this is a factory defect, or perhaps a design flaw on Lenovo. The battery was good to ok when I first got it, then came all the Windows 10 updates which made it worse. I would just normally use it and most of the time I only got around 1.5-2 hours. I tried everything, control start-up items, control background apps, disabled Fast Boot even reduced the screen brightness but to no avail. All my drivers are updated, even the BIOS.Does anyone have this issue? If you do, did you try any other tricks that might have even temporarily solved this issue?I wish some of the moderators can report this to Lenovo Engineers, so they can find a solution.

I recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad 310 about a month ago, shortly after installing all reccomended updates on the Lenovo companion app, including reccomended BIOS and Windows 10 updates my laptop has started getting semi random freezes. When a freeze occurs the entire system locks up, the sound makes a very short interval constant loop, and I have to preform a full reboot. It seems to happen more frequently when playing certain games (CSGO, Left 4 Dead 2) Less frequently when playing less demanding games (Starbound, Minecraft) however sometimes it feels like it can happen at any time as it has happened a few times just browsing the internet or once while idle and downloading something in the background.Sometimes I can tell when it's about to happen. In the case where the computer is about to freeze while playing CSGO I lose connection to the server, the game tell's me it's attempting to reconnect, every time I see this the computer goes into the freeze 5-10 seconds later, This morning I was fast enough to alt tab before the freeze and noticed that my laptop said it was still connected to the internet just before it then froze and I had to reboot I have no idea what could possibly be causing this but wanted to know what my options are or wether anybody else was experiencing similar constant and seemingly random freezes

Hey,To begi, I have 2 problems since I bought this notebook about 2 weeks ago1- The performance is so poor    I am running Windows 10 and what I can notice is the bad performance from such an i7 processor @2.7 to 2.9 Ghz with 8 GB RAM(DDR4) and Nvidia Geforce 920MX(2GB)once I remove the AC Adapter and run it on the battery it tends to be slower and even when plugged in it's still giving me like the minimal performance, I have another laptop which is processor i5 @2.3 Ghz , 4 GB of RAM(DDR3), Intel Graphics Card(1GB) and it is running at much higher speed and I have tested this on some game and the i5 PC gave me a Higher FPS(90+) while the Ideapad gave me something around 60So, is it because some kind of factory settings for the lowest performance ever on that PC as I want to change it? Please give me a decent Solution for that problem as I can't work on the Ideapad this way.....2- Since I bought this laptop and I am using it regularly so I wanted to limit the battery usage to increase its lifespan so I have download Lenovo settings and Companion to Activate the Conservation Mode but It never worked, It never limited the battery to 60% and the battery still goes to completion....So I need a solution for thatThanks in advance.

do you know for sure the noise is from the fans. Open the case and see if you can pinpoint the noise. Maybe there is a loose drive screw or something.

maybe the drive is going bad. do a drive diagnostic utility for your harddrive

My computer (Dell - Win XP) has made grinding and clicking noises ever since I got it (approx 1 year ago). It's noisy whenever it's doing anything, and even sometimes when it's not (whatever do computers do when they are just sitting there by themselves?) - anyway, last December, Dell actually sent someone to my house to replace the drive and the new one started making the same noises almost right away. It is not a fan - I can hear the fan(s) and they do not make what I consider to be exorbitant noises, however, I had this nagging little feeling that it isn't supposed to make so much noise, so I bit the bullet and had a chat with Dell again. Now they want ME to remove the hard drive and reboot it to see if it still makes the noise. I think I'm fairly adventurous just owning a computer - there is no way I am going to remove all those cords in the back, flip it down on its side, remove the cover, and then take out the hard drive. What could possibly be making all that noise if it isn't the hard drive? Does it matter that the more it is doing, the noisier it is? Other than the noise, it runs just fine.

Thank you for any help given,
Cheryl

Hi and thanks. I have a Dell e310 desktop....pentium 4 /2k mem / 80g hd... which I bought new feom dell a few years ago. From the very beginning, I noticed it was the probably quietest computer i had ever had...or ever used for that matter.....almost dead silent...except under the most extreme usage. Then one day last year while playing a game on Gametap I think I overtaxed the cpu and the 'blue screen of death' came on. Nothing i did made it go away. Finally as a last resort i inserted the XP disc that came with the computer....the computer rebooted.. but it wiped the hd clean and reinstalled the os....and i lost all my data. But....at least the computer was working again. Anyway....ever since that day....i've had a noisy cpu fan. Whenever i go online... or even just open a document.....the processor fan rev's up nearly as loud as a hairdryer....and stays revved up....even after i close the file! To get relief, I have to put the computer in standby.....the computer goes silent.... then...a few seconds later...I just move the mouse...and...xp comes back on....and the noise is gone....(until i open something again...then the fan rev's back up...and i'm back where i started!) This maddening noise is the only problem I have....the computer works fine otherwise. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Will E

My graphics card fan makes a noisy sound on a cold boot, as if the bearings have gone but once it heats up I assume the expansion of the metal shut it up. However I'm looking to sell this PC within the next couple of weeks, so does anyone know how I can solve this issue?

I was thinking of removing the heatsink/fan assembly and oiling the bearing, or should I buy a new fan to stick on?

alright so i cleaned out the dust from my computer and installed speedfan which froze my computer but i eventually got it working and it shows core 0 at around mid 50c with a flame symbol core 1 alternates between a check mark an arrow and a flame as does core 2 and 3 and te last three are at a low 50C. my computer is elevated and this started after i updated the Bus controller with slimdriver and my AMD graphics. i've updated teh BIOS done a clean boot and talked to the guys at dell support who said it was a software issue and got mad because i had updated 7 home premium with ultimate an said that that had messed up the command center which regulated the fans yet the computer ran fine with ultimate and i doubt that 7 ultimate was that different from home premium to make a programme ment to run on premium not work so i went to software support and claimed that nothing was wrong with the software so putting my trust with you guys since you haven't let me down so far any suggestions? oh i switched the cpu to passive instead of active. oh and in the BIOS under preformance there is an option to enable turbo mode yet despite trying both disabled and enabled does nothing the line above remains turbo enabled and the driver on the dell support for turbo can't install because it lacks the hardware so thats my story.

Couple of suggestions that may (or may not) help. First, I think I'd invest in a laptop cooling pad to assist with ventilation. Then I'd check to see if you have any resource hogs that are set to start up immediately and contribute to higher temps. The only things I have set to start up immediately are my antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) and the synaptics touchpad.

Hi, most of the time my PC (Win XP Home) runs virtually silently during surfing and game-playing etc, but with one or two other games and flight sims it whirrs slightly louder for the whole time the program is running AND after I exit the program, and the only way I can kill the noise is with a restart.
The extra noise doesn't bother me too much, but I can't help wondering what's causing it, and whether the innards are under some kind of stress which might cause extra wear and tear or overheating etc?

A:Why is my PC sometimes noisy?

My computer does the same thing. it's my fan, when i play games or do disc cleanup the fan gets REALLY loud I'm running windows xp Professional Version 2002 service pack 3 pentium 4, 3.40 Ghz 1.00 GB of RAM
Does anybody know how to get it to quiet down. I got it from a professor at Northern Arizona University. When i asked him about it he said it was probably a bad fan so he sent me a new one. No difference. then he said it might be the power source. so he sent me another power source and another fan. Still no difference. Does anyone else have an opinion???
And yes it did have a bunch of dust balls and stuff in it i cleaned it yesterday i had to scrape it off of the back and fan etc. My computer temp is 27 degrees i found that out when i downloaded the speedfan. but the speedfan couldn't find my fan. it only found my hardrive. i have a fan on my video card too and it didn't find that either or the power fan.

My fan is quite noisy and sometimes it goes even noisier than it usually is and it's very annoying. I don't want to have to buy a new fan/heatsink or anything else so if there's a way to reduce the noise without upgrading, please tell me.

There wasn't much dust inside my computer since I regularly remove it, and I already moved all the little dust I could find in there. I'll leave a picture of my specs and current temps. I downloaded SpeedFan so I could control the speed of the fan and reduce some noise but I don't want anything overheating so if you could tell me what the minimum speed of the fan should be at what temperatures that would be great.

A:Noisy Fan

Hello, a fan should not make noise at any speed, so when it does start to be noisy it means that a mechanical component (usually the sealed bearing) is going bad and it will eventually fail.
Since this is the CPU fan this issue should have some priority, but it is up to you.
Good luck with this project.

Just determined that my processor fan is extremely noisy. I opened the case and the fan speed is varying with the higher speed being incredibly irritating. The PC is under warranty but I'm wondering if I should just replace the fan myself. I guess E-machines would make me bring this thing in for service.

Is it easy to replace this type of fan. It has the plastic shroud and it seems to come out with the processor as a whole unit. I guess this fan is thermostatically controlled or broken because it goes from almost off to very high and loud. Thanks for any help.

A:GT 220 is noisy

Some GPU's, especially those with small fans, tend to be very loud, even when not under load. Just in case though, you can make sure it is not overheating with a tool like MSI Afterburner. If the temperatures are under control, you can use Afterburner to reduce the fan speed.

hi,i just bought a new pavilion x360 13-u164TU several days ago, and since the first time I used it, the fan did not stop working and made a very noisy sound. also, after a few days using it, suddenly the laptop memory was error and died, it still worked after I restarted it, but then it happened twice. then, i returned it and the store changed it with the same new laptop, but the fan is still making loud noise and it is so annoying. i did not open many tabs, in fact i just open 1 tab internet explorer and 1 file explorer, but it's still the same. i checked the BIOS, it says 2016. then, i turn on the power saving and turn off the cool sense, but nothing changed. anyone knows why does Hp laptop make this very loud noise and how to solve it?i am not sure if i return again this laptop to the store since i have done it once with the same problem, they'll probably say that it is normal.

Hi folks,

I have a little problem with my PC currently in that it is very noisy. No rasping sounds or clicking etc. it's just the fans I think. Now does anyone know wether it would be more lickely to be my heatsink and fan OR my PSU fan that's making all the racket? And if anyone knows how much it may cost and how easy it might be to actually replace the PSU and fans?

Also, could the noise be coming from somewhere else like my CD-ROM or HD?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hey there,

Just a small question, I have an x-power 500w psu, but it seems to be painfully noisy. A friend of mine has the exact same model and it's no where near as loud as mine. It doesnt help adding to the noise of the other 8 fans. It just seems to be the power supply making the most noise. Any ideas? Thanks

A:Noisy PSU

Your system may just be running hotter - heat-sensitive fans will turn faster. More power drawn from the PSU will make it generate more heat too.

Also, are your fans working together to produce some kind of directed air flow? No point in having fans struggling to push air through other fans in the wrong direction.

Don't really know how to ask this but I am pretty sure I have a fan inside my case that is going bad. It is noisy, and sometimes more noisy than other times, and I am afraid that I may incur damage if I don't have it replaced. I have an extended warranty on the PC and therefore the cost would be nothing to me, except I would be without the PC for as long as maybe 2 weeks. Best Buy takes it in and the PC may end up in Miami for repairs.
The PC in question is the Aptiva 2171 545 described in my signature below and it is now 3 years old. I have looked at the IBM site for Maintainance/Repair info but I can't post the link here for you to look at the fan that is shown on the CPU on pages 98/101of the manual. Having never tried to replace a fan, is this something that I would want to do?? Don't know anything about the heat sink and thermal compound stuff and I do not have any of the materials. The only thing that makes this option look good is that I could do the job in a few hours, I guess. I understand from reading that there is some risk involving possible damage to the CPU. Don't think I would want to take that risk. However, I will be listening to my peers. My PC is the Pentium III with the 450MHz processor and everything is OEM except I changed out the CDR-W for a faster one and added a second HDD. I also added memory-increasing from 98MB to 192MB. Think thats it!!

Howdy

I just finished putting together a new box for myself. I fired it up last night with no troubles . The only thing I bought retail was the P-4 processor thinking I would get the intel approved heatsink and fan with it, which I did...but...let me say it is the loudest fan I have ever heard...very disappointingly..

Can anyone recommend a third party heatsink/fan combo that will do the trick and be quiet about it

Will I have trouble getting the existing combo off the chip...heat transfer paste... without damage

I have tried oiling the fan, dusting the CPU and nothing seems to work. I need help

My PC's a HP desktop, tower type

A:I have really noisy fan

Is this a CPU fan or case fan we are talking about? Is the fan a standard 80mm, 120mm, etc... design? If it is a standard design, you can purchase a replacement from several locations. If you are not sure you can measure the fan frame width. If it is the CPU fan you may want to get a 4-pin fan.

The 4-pin uses PWM signaling to control the fans RPM depending on the motherboard temperature sensor readings. While the third pin is used for the fans RPM sensor, without a 4-pin PWM fan it would spin full speed.

Hi, I have a hp a1223w desktop computer and the fan is getting quite noisy. I have cleaned it up, but it is still sounding funky. I was just wondering how I go about finding a new fan for this thing, it is pretty old and not sure how to find out if one is compatible with my computer.

Do you have a guess as to which fan is noisy?
It could be the power supply fan, in which you replace the entire power supply.
Or if could be a case fan that generates air flow. They are low cost and are replaced by removing four screws. You just have to be sure the power plug or socket is a two, three, or four pin, then buy a new one. Sometimes the power plug is the greatest difficulty.
CPU fans are more work, and it is wise to replace the entire heatsink and fan as a set. There are risks in doing this. Some heatsink hold downs are made of plastic or other materials that can break.
A lot of local vendors, as well as online vendors such as Directron, Frys, Krex, TigerDirect, NewEgg, and others will have what you need.
The secret usually is to avoid cheap products. The units which are quiet and have the best bearings and best fan blade design to reduce noise while moving a lot of cooling air, will cost more. As with all other computer products, some brand names are better and can be trusted. If it is cheap, it probably cannot be trusted to be quiet, although it make work ok.
There are reviews on-line for CPU fans, but case fan reviews are scarce.
There is a great deal of design work in moving air. The cost is usually worth it.

Within 2 months my new PC has started making a high pitched whining sound which is continous but waxes and wanes in intensity. It's not very loud but is annoying. The vendors engineer replaced the CPU fan but this hasnt helped. The sound disappears when I put the PC into standby mode. Is it the hard drive making the noise and what do I do about it?

I have a new Vortex Dream Fan for my athlon xp cpu
My problem :
When I first switch the on system I hear noises like vibrations coming from the the Fan, I have tried holding the fan and heatsink and noise is still there, cant feel any vibration, could it be the barings or something, what puzzles me is that my previous fan was exaclty the same, dif fan alltogether though.
The noise seems to last for aprox 10 -15 secs from the time it is switched on,
it also seems to be fine if pc has been running for a bit and shut it down and clean boot it after a short amount of time.
I am thinking of returning the fan but want to make sure the source of the prob is within the fan and not external although the noise appears to be coming from there.
Anyone shedding some light would be apreciated
Thanks

Good article on the Dream Fan. The 10-15 seconds of noise is fairly common on some non-ball bearing fans. It takes a few revolutions of the fan to warm the lubricant and rotating parts and get to operating rpms. I have an 80mm fan in my side cover that raises h#ll for about 20 seconds. Been that way for about a year now. You could return it and get a different brand fan or just ignore the noise that 15 secs. Good luck.

I have several PC's with a MSI 6309 socket 370 Pentium III motherboard and 1 of them has the hard drive activity coming through the on board speaker insted of through the Hard Drive LED! I have never seen this before and cannot find anything in the BIOS to either change this or to shut off the onboard speaker. I don't see a jumper to change this either. Otherwise the board works great but it is driving me nuts LOL. All the other ones do not do this annoying thing. PLEASE help if anyone else has seen this. Thank you in advance.

Please help there has been a really loud whirring sound coming from my pc for some months the last couple of weeks it has become unbearable !

So not knowing very much about computers this morning I changed the little cheap fan that attaches to the back only to find it was not that fan making the noise. I have now discovered that the culprit fan is larger black fan which is attached to the motherboard (i'm assuming it the motherboard).

Does anyone know what I can do about this ?

Thanks
