Thinkpad S1 yoga won't boot or charge

Q: Thinkpad S1 yoga won't boot or charge

I have had the thinkpad S1 yoage for around a year and a half. 5 days after the warranty ran out the laptop decided that it didn't want to boot up or charge anymore. After a few days of checking cable connections and trying different methods that I read online I managed to get it up and running again. Now half a year later the same problem has happened again except this time I have spent weeks trying to repair it. Does anybody know how to fix this? I dont get any beeping sounds from the motherboard just the power indicator flashes 3 times. I have tried different chargers as well, nothing has worked so far

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 that won't charge.  Sometimes when I plug it in there is no reaction from the computer aside from the "i" indicator continuouly flashing in sequences of 3s. Other times when I plug it in it says "plugged in, not chrging" and the "i" indicator flashes 3 times, then 6 times. If I remove the battery, I can run the laptop off of AC perfectly fine but the CPU is limited to 0.78 GHZ and the laptop feels very slow because of it. I have two batteries and I have tried this with both of them but its the same result for both. So it's not a problem with the battery. I have also tried the AC adapter on another laptop and it charges fine so its not a problem ith the charger. There was a big windows update a day or two before the issue started so I'm wondering if its just a software problem. My warranty is expired so I'm really hoping this is an issue that I can fix on my own without having to send it in to Lenovo and be billed for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Could somebody help me with the solution for charging my laptop X1 Yoga for USB docking station, please? Thnak you, Marius.

A:x1 yoga not charge from ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock

USB 3.0 docks are not capable of powering a computer (unless some non-standard functionality is used, and even then only a small amount of power can be supplied). The only standards compliant way to power a computer from a USB dock is a USB type C dock with power delivery capability connected to a USB type C port on a suitable laptop. The X1 Yoga does not have USB type C, so the only dock that can power the X1 Yoga is the OneLink+ Dock. You will need to connect a power adapter as well as the USB 3.0 dock if you wish to power the X1 Yoga.

Hello all, Please forgive if this has been posted. I couldn't find an answer: I purchased a replacement for my battery, but on installation it wouldn't charge. I tried disabling AC and battery in device manager. I tried complete shut down and reboot. Couldn't get the new battery to be recognized. The old battery still works a bit, so I'm not in serious trouble. but with the battery going on a few years old, I wanted to replace before it left me stranded. Is there something that must be done to tell the system (Win 8.1 x 64 pro) to recognize that the battery is new, and to reflash the battery firmware and reset the driver? Simply replacing the battery didn't quite get the job done. Thank you for any response.

Folks,This IS a Lenovo board.  I am not writing for the fun of it.  I am a customer both personally and I recommend products and services professionally.  What is my expectation of receiving a customer touchpoint from someone at Lenovo about this problem I am having with a family member's Lenovo Yoga 3?  I want to believe; I want to believe... that Lenovo values the customer experience and is interested in its brand enough to provide some helpful feedback.  Seriously, this is a really smarmy problem that only surfaced after having completing a forced Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 8.1.  I have purchased a brand new charging adapter and cord; I have uninstalled the ?Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" driver completely and rebooted.  I have seen a variety of notes, posts, etc. that indicate a problem; I need a solution and I need it fast (and I'd like it to involve getting this fairly new machine back on track) and not having to buy a replacement either from Lenovo or another manufacturer.   Please help.  Thank you! #CustomerExperience #cX #LenovoYoga3Pro #BatteryNotCharging #NoPower

Computer  was working.fine, did a reboot and now has 'To interrupt normal startup press enter' displayed on the top right. If I let it continue it shows blue screen with unexpected error occurred,  error 0000225, I try to enter recovery with F1 and it just reloads back to the same recovery screen. I've tried with a windows 10 and windows 8.1 install same results.  If I plug the drive into my desktop I can see all my files no problem.  I bought a new SSD and when I try to install Windows the logo comes up but after some time, maybe a minute, it drops to recovery again and says the bios is not fully ACPI compliant, error 0000225 and stops. I've tried disconnecting the bios battery for about 15 minutes and tried again with no luck, same result on new ssd and install.  I'm lost a this point, any ideas? I'm going to try a Bios CD updated tomorrow but I dont have much hope. Cannot get to a command prompt or anything... Video link https://www.dropbox.com/s/s27pnnk38ta43kt/pc.url?dl=0

I contacted Lenovol support and they send me a replacement unit. The the replacement unit has the same problem. Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.  I need to plug in the power adapter for both docking station and notebook.  Does anybody have similiar problem?

A:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

I can see the Lenovo Logo, the black background and the message "to interrupt normal startup, press enter". If I press "enter" nothing happens. I can use CTRL-ALT-DEL to "reboot" to the same stuck behavior. Only the Power button helps. The designated user won't be lucky about theat problem.

So I just purchased a refurbished Thinkpad Yoga, and all was great for a little while. Then I decided to shut it down and set it aside for a few minutes. After coming back, it now refuses to even POST. I tried every power cycle I could think of, in various combinations, and browsed several forums. In the end I found no functional solution. Current Status: System responds in no way other than the 'i' light (in the Thinkpad logo) blinking three times when the charger is connected, or the same when the reset button is pressed while the charger is still connected. Nothing else illicits any sort of beep, light, or otherwise. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks and regards.

I have a feeling you had opened up the back cover to fiddle around with the components (be it a change of SSD or the 3g/4g modem). the symptoms you described sounds exactly like a disconnect MB cable. you can try to open up the back cover, and around the left side, you will see a cable labelled "MB". secure it properly, and the computer should be responsive now.

Hi Everyone! I have a Thinkpad Yoga 12 and recently I am experiencing a rather serious problem with the machine. If I have a drive in it, it will simply not start the booting process and will freeze on the "press enter to interrupt..." screen. Whenever I remove the disk (SSD) the computer starts and I can access BIOS/Diagnostics/Etc. but when reinserting the SSD everything stops and the computer freezes on start. This problem is very annoying because without a proper boot I cannot update the BIOS or do anything with it at all. Did anyone else experience something similiar?I checked the SSD in a different computer and it works without a problem.

A:Thinkpad Yoga stuck on boot screen

Hanging on startup with a disk inserted would most likely indicate either a bad SSD or a bad SATA control circuit (motherboard).  If the disk is OK, that leaves only one part.

I am trying to disable UEFI Secure Boot on my Thinkpad Yoga S1 but it keeps getting re-enabled after a reboot. If I set secure boot to disabled I can boot into the non secure OSes installed on the machine imediately afterwards but if the machine is restarted the Secure Boot seting in the BIOS is re-enabled.  It's important for me to have secure boot disabled as I use OSes without secure boot.

I try to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS on the following screen :

Link to image 1

But if I re-enter the BIOS either after booting into an OS or simply re-entering the BIOS, Secure Boot is back on:

Link to image 2

I have also tried to disable "OS Optimzed Defaults" but it also returns to enabled after a restart.

Link to image 3

Some of the other BIOS settings save correctly so I can't figure out why the secure boot settings don't. The BIOS version I have is the latest (1.18).

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? It's inconvenient to manually disable secure boot each time I want to use the laptop. The two operating systems (Ubuntu and Android x86) do work reasonably well once booted.

Thanks!

Juan

A:Disabling Secure Boot on Thinkpad Yoga S1

I'm having the same issue. I've experienced this with 4 brand new yogas. I will enter bios, disable secure boot, enable legacy pxe and upon reboot the changes are lost. I'm saving changes and exiting.  Resetting user mode options, saving changes and not exiting, those have inconsistently allowed me to keep my changes long enough so i can legacy boot.

In the last month I purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2G and the Thuderbolt USB C dock. Since the USB C cable that comes with the dock is too short to allow the dock on the right and laptop on the left (in laptop mode), I put the notebook in tent mode and all works fine---except... Everytime I power up from hibernate it starts beeping about once a second and does not stop. I have to disconnect from the dock, flip it to laptop mode (this is where the beeping stops), return it to tent mode, and then plug the dock back in. It seems that Lenovo, like everybody else, is rushing things to market with plans to fix bugs later (maybe). Any thoughts I how to stop the beeping?  The first time it happened I closed all the apps to reboot and it still was beeping. Thanks.

Hey there, everyone.I've got this 2 year old ThinkPad Yoga 12 that was working fine one day, and then won't boot at all the next. Hello. I'm having a substandard issue with my Lenovo Yoga Laptop that I will try to explain in complete detail. First I'll summarize what's going on, then I'll list all  the details that could be related to this problem, no matter how small, in order of most likely related to least likely related. I'm an IT technician so I have some grasp of computer troubleshooting, just keep in mind. Alright, so the issue is that my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga (can't find exact model, label only days Yoga and its dated in 2013) will not boot into Windows 10 after I have done an upgrade from Windows 8.1 using Microsoft's media creation tool. More specifically, I was able to do the firat time setup and boot on once but after searching for Windows updates and restarting, the computer will not boot on. The most likely reason for this I believe is that the laptop doesn't recognize the SSD with Windows 10 on it. It can detect it in some ways but not others. In Lenovo diagnostics I'm not able to run a storage test, which is an option I know is usually there because I've troubleshooted these before, which leads me to believe it doesn't recognize it. However, boot menu and BIOS recognize the drive. Attempting to boot to it from boot menu gives a long black screen and then it takes me back to boot menu. Letting my computer boot up normally also gives a long black screen after the ThinkPad logo and the automatically goes to boot menu. The other diagnostics for Lenovo hardware all pass. So some... Two ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 TabletPCs will successfully boot into Windows 10 just fine from a hard poweroff.  But once in windows, if i choose Restart, it will hang at the "LENOVO" BIOS  level boot up logo with "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter".   Stuck at Lenovo BOOT BIOS initialization screen, right before handoff to the Operating System. "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" At this point, pressing ENTER does not work.CTRL-ALT+DEL causes the screen to change shade for a moment, but effectively does nothing.Changing the UEFI settings to diagnostics results in black screen.Holding the power switch to force a poweroff, waiting a few moments, and then powering on results in a successful windows startup.  DevMGMT.msc does NOT see bluetooth and there is "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" entry under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".  I have run all automatic updates via "Lenovo Vantage" and the manual TPM update.   I can boot into the firmware setup and have had it revert to factory defaults and reverted to factory defaults for all security settings.   I even tried the Win10 repair startup problems, but it says it cannot fix this.

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 does not Restart, requires hard power off. Stuck at Lenovo boot logo.

It looks to me like you have a faulty hardware issue or a serious driver issue. Try the Lenovo recovery to put the device back to the factory windows install. If that fails, I would think you have a hardware issue.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I bought a Thinlpad R51 - 1836 BBU used and with no battery. I bought a new battery, installed it and the battery drained completely. I sent it back and got a new one and also bought a new power chord. The battery and new power chord worked fine for two months. Last week the battery drained completely again (while plugged into AC chord).

Again I bought a new battery (extended life this time) and bought a docking station. I am now faced with the new battery drains everytime I use it. The power chord does not charge it. The docking station does not charge it either. I would like some questons answered:

Is it normal for the pc to have to be ON for the battery to be charged?

Does anyone know if there is any indication that the power chord is plugged in while the battery is installed? When on AC only, it shows plug - When battery installed (on battery only or with AC chord) computer shows on battery power.

Do the external battery charger units really work? this may be my only way of recharging my battery if not through the pc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.
