Q: Speaker volume icon disappeared

Win7 Pro . Speaker volume icon on the lower right of the screen disappeared, now I need to go through the control panel to reset volume.
How to get that little thing back ? It was handy.

Preferred Solution: Speaker volume icon disappeared

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

1. Right-click on the Taskbar (the bar at the bottom of the screen) and choose Properties.

2. Under the ?Taskbar? tab, look for the button that says ?Customize? and click it (this is to customize the notification area).

3. In the new window, look for ?Volume? under the list of icons. Out to the right, click the drop-down menu and choose ?Show icon and notifications?.

4. Click OK to close that window, then OK again to close the Properties window.

Let us check if the drivers are installed in the computer. To check that, please follow the instructions:

1. Click start
2. Right click Computer
3. Click Manage
4. Click Device Manager.
5. Check if the driver are installed for audio (Audio, Video, Game controller) or is there any anything listed under Other Devices (if the drivers are not installed in the computer it would listed under Other devices).
6. If yes, then install the drivers and check.
7. If no, then run the Microsoft Fixit using the link : System icons do not appear in the notification area in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 until you restart the computer

Please post back the results.

A lot of things can cause your sound to go out, and I won't even begin to go through them.
What I can do is tell you how to get the sound icon back to your system tray.

Start Menu/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices

Put a checkmark to Show volume icon in the taskbar.

Click Apply, then close out the box.

Hello all,
I've been working on my wifes computer, a Gateway MX7525 running Windows XP Pro.
She was infected with the photosnap trojan and I was able to finally remove it and get most things running correctly but the volume icon has disappeared from the taskbar and I cannot get it to come back, I have checked to make sure the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" is checked and that it is set to "always show" from the hide inactive icons selection.
Have also noticed that Adobe Flash does not have any sound when playing movies through IE7 and when trying to access internet options through the tool bar I get a message that states "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.
The last thing is that the volume control buttons no longer work, when pressed the onscreen display pops up but the slider does not move.
I have removed the sound card drivers and reinstalled them, I've also removed and reinstalled flash player but that hasn't helped.
The sounds in everything else works like it should though.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your soundcard driverh has been corrupted or is missing altogether.

look in device manager are there any devices that show a yellow question mark or yellow triangle next tot hem? if there is then you need to reinstall the drivers for your sound.

I have lost my volume control, and its icon. I have an HP PC with the volume wires connected from the screen to the CPU, and I have plugged and unplugged these, and they are properly inserted. I have now lost the speaker icon, and when I go to Control Panel and the Sounds & Audio Devices icon, under the tab "Volume" it states "No Audio Devices".

In the desktop task bar I now have a "Realtek HD Sound Effect" icon.

Grateful if you can advise how I can restore volume control, as I get no sound now from WMP etc.

I know it's minor, but it's annoying. On start-up, it doesn't appear. When I go to the "sounds and audio devices" window, the box for "put icon in system tray" (paraphrasing) is checked. If I uncheck it, apply, then check it and apply again, then it shows up and works fine. It should be showing up when I boot up though. The only additional info I have is that I ran a registry cleaner before I noticed this, which for different reasons, I uninstalled and thus lost the ability to restore any registry changes. This may be unrelated, I have no idea. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

A:Volume tray icon disappeared!

You know, I have had the exact same problem on more than one of my machines. It also works to Control-alt-delete explorer and then re-run it from the task manager. This leads me to believe it's either caused in part or in whole by explorer.exe not updating the system tray, or possibly by another background process.

That said, maybe if you posted some details about your hardware, and about the running programs we could find a similarity?

I have been searching different forums where the speaker icon has disappeared from the notification area of the task bar, but have not found a solution to the particular problem I am experiencing. In my case the speaker icon is still visible but when I click on it, I no longer get the vertical bar which allows me to adjust the volume. I have made no recent changes to my computer and cannot understand why this has suddenly happened. I have gone to taskbar properties and tried turning the volume icon on and off but this has not cured the problem.

I have discovered the problem I am experiencing is limited to my user account only. I have one other named account and a guest account. The other user is able to adjust the volume from the speaker icon on the notification bar, and when I log into the guest account I find it is also working perfectly. However, when I log into my user acount it does not work. I have also tried adjusting the volume by going into Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Sound - Adjust system volume but when I click on it nothing happens. However, when I go into the guest account I find I can adjust the volume from both the icon on the notification bar and by going through the Control Panel method.

I therefore suspect that my user account may have been corrupted in some way. I should stress that my problem is limited to my inability to adjust the volume in my user account. I do have sound, I just am unable to control it!

 Windows 7.
I'm having some issues with my tray notification icons.  I have only been running this computer for a few weeks.  A few days ago my volume icon disappeared from the tray.  I tried a few procedures I found in some Microsoft forums and none worked.  One procedure said that the issue often involves group policies.  I followed the steps, opening RegEdit and couldn't locate the file they indicated.  An alternate procedure was outlined if that didn't work, again entering RegEdit and I forget the exact process, but I didn't locate that either.  Another procedure was listed by someone else in the MS group saying to stop the Explorer.exe process.  IT disappeared, as the instructions said it would and when I restarted the computer, it wasn't there.  In fact, when I went into the customizing page, the three icons I need, volume, network, and power, were all grayed out.  Then I tried sfc.exe /scannow in the command line (suggested in the same group) and when I did, the black screen command prompt disappeared and did not scan.
This problem started right after I downloaded VLC Media Player.  I tried a system restore and it failed. However, after the failed system restore, the volume icon came back, but it disappeared again shortly after.  I uninstalled VLC Media Player and when I restarted the computer, the network icon came back in the tray, volume and power are stilled grayed out, and now there is a... Any suggestions?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 5559 Audio - Right Speaker has low volume while the left speaker functions normally

Hello. You didn't mention the headphone jack, so if you have not yet done so, plug in headphones and see if the balance is okay in them. If the headphones check out okay, then most probably it's a problem related to the speakers.
The test for speakers is the ePSA audio test. It is a hardware test, which means that if the test  tones are very low in the right speaker, but normal in the left speaker, then there is hardware failure somewhere, related to the right speaker.
If both speakers sound normal during the test, then the problem is in the software. Do the usual things like re-install the audio driver, check the balance levels in the Sound properties, try different audio sources, etc.
Re-installing the audio driver resets the settings to their default configurations, so if you do it then you don't have to bother with things like volumes and balance settings, because they will be okay.(Also if the balance is okay through headphones, then it should be okay through the speakers too.)
Here is how to do a simple driver re-install:
1.    Open the Device Manager.2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device a... Read more

Ok, dig, I am a Mac guy and I had to get a Windows laptop for work. So please understand I don't know anything.

First easy question : I have a Braven Balance B/T speaker, when I connected it (Which took like 15 minutes ??) it gets labeled as a headset. It's a speaker!

Then the volume is very low, I can turn up Pandora, the main system volume and I still believe it's low. Also, I do not have the Properties > Levels > Enhancements like I have read about. Under Levels I get Balance, that's it.

Can someone who is patient help me thru this starting point and maybe we can go further. I can provide screen shots of anything necessary.

Thanks so much.

I'm not sure what measures you've taken in trying to natively adjust the sound (like in this video: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Adjust-the-sound-level-on-your-computer). I find that more times than not, you can usually right click the sound icon and select "open sound mixer" and adjust the sound to your liking from there.

Hi: The latest W10 update messed up the audio in almost every one of my HP business desktops and notebook PC's. I had to reinstall the audio drivers to get everything to work right. Two of my PC's do not have W10 audio driver support. For my HP 350 business notebook, I had to reinstall the W8.1 IDT audio driver, which restored normalcy. For my HP dc7800 business desktop, I had to reinstall the W7 Soundmax audio driver, which restored normalcy. Your notebook does not have W10 audio drivers either. So, here are two recommendations for drivers I have... First, create a system restore point in case these drivers make a bad situation worse, and then you can revert to your current status. Then reinstall the W8.1 audio driver from your notebook's support page and restart the PC This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59654.exe If that doesn't fix the problem, try this IDT audio driver from a newer model notebook (15t-j100) that has the Beats Audio. Install and restart the PC. This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. 6.10.6491.0 Rev.     Sep 30, 2013 http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe

I have a computer running some crappy speakers, and for some reason I can barely hear anything from them. So I tried them on another new computer of mine, and they worked fine. I have obviously checked all the volume settings and they are all on and turned up all the way. Any batteries involved in your audio loop? Replace.

Any volume controls on your keyboard? Try disabling keyboard audio control.

Any Windows utilities running that control audio? Running in the System Tray, and check Task Manager. Close any extra audio-related apps.

Otherwise, it could just be your speakers, or sound card amp, going out.

Hi everyone,

I have only recently upgraded to Vista from XP, I'm very pleased with everything apart from this sound problem, which from what I've read is very common. I was hoping to watch movies on my new widescreen monitor, but the sound is just not loud enough with all settings on max.

The problem I'm having is that my speaker volume is very low, I'm using fairly old speakers, but these speakers were very loud on my old computer running XP.

Anyway I've installed the latest Realtek driver & it has made no difference what so ever. Every setting is set to max volume, does anyone know how I can boost the volume? Or maybe someone else has had this problem & found a solution, I'm wondering if new speakers will make any difference?

The only sure-fire solution I think of so far is installing XP, which would mean losing Vista, as I've not got a disc with it on, the computer came with it loaded already.

Please help! :|

If this is what you did, go back with a system restore. You will lose SP2, but it can be installed, again. It probably did not install correctly.

I don't know whether this would fall under customizing the laptop or the operating system; I plan to also find an HP forum in case this is not the appropriate venue for this question.

The issue is that I cannot set Internet Explorer to fullscreen using the F11 key, because pressing F11 causes the volume control to pop up instead. Worse, when I use the View menu to set the browser to fullscreen, I cannot F11 it back.

Does Windows 7 map the F11 key to the volume control, or is this an HP-specific setting? If this is a Windows 7 setting, how can I change the keypress that launches the volume control, so that I can get back to the browser functionality I'm used to?

Thanks in advance.

A:F11 conflict (IE 8 / speaker volume)

Hello Byff, and welcome to Seven Forums.

On laptops, you may need to press the F Lock (Function) key, or press and hold the Fn key, before pressing F11 to toggle full screen mode.

Hope this helps,

I was just given this computer upgrade at work. I have the external speakers that I had with the old computer, but now I can hardly hear my cds! I've checked all the volume controls. Our tech person doesn't have time to deal with this "personal" issue. Could there be something in the sound card or some other hardware issue that just doesn't allow louder volume? I'm no expert on how computers run, so maybe there is something I'm overlooking.

A:Low External Speaker Volume

Is the master volume or any of the other volumes set low? Checking threw
Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices
In there are a few different volume settings that might be set to low. In the volume tab If you click the Advanced button under the Device volume it brings up a few different audio options, inculding master volume. I'm not sure if you checked that yet if not, I hope that helps. (I wasn't sure if you meant volume controls on the computer or on the speakers...some speakers can have several different types of volume control)

Are you using a seperate sound card, or a integrated sound card?

EDIT: I have my control panel set up under classical veiw, if you do not click
Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices -> Sounds and Audio Devices
