Need help with an Iomega 500GB HD

Q: Need help with an Iomega 500GB HD

Hello,
I'm a newbie here in need of some assistance. I'm not an amature nor an expert but I have an Iomega 500GB external HD. It has esata and USB connections for it. My PC (Win XP)only takes standard sata, so I'm using the USB connections. I plug it in and it doesn't get recognized in my computer as a second drive. I search the forum and follow similar instructions, but still have no luck.
I know that the USB inputs are good. My goal here is to copy the contents of another external Maxtor Hard Drive to this Iomega HD. The Maxtor plugs in with USB and it shows up in My Comp. I would like to ask what else I can do?
Thanks very much.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need some Help to Format it and get it Stable please
History
Houses mostly Video & Music
Worked reliably for 3 years
Then I kept getting messages ?Check Disk for errors? OR Continue without scanning?
I tried Scan and Fix a couple of times ? couldn?t do it
So I continued without scanning but after 10, 20 or 30 minutes the Drive would disconnect/disappear
It would not reappear until I logged of and then back on again
I borrowed a 2 Tb from a friend and s l o w l y managed to copy everything Off
I first tried Formating in Windows ? no good
Found Formater on Iomega/Leveno Site and used it
Followed their instructions to Format to NTFS
Copied 400 Gb ? all ok
Then I went for a 224 Gb Cut & Paste
At the End, Everything was Gibberish ? The Drive Name, the Directory Names etc
Thinking that I had perhaps caused some sort of problem by converting to NTFS,
I used the Iomega Utility and Formated the HDD again
[I did notice at the Bottom it said ?Formatted as separate drives?]
I thought it strange, but when I went into Windows, there it was, as approx 1Tb
I copied 2 Folders, about 350 Gb ? all OK
Then I Cut and Paste a 224 Gb File
It showed some problems with some Source Files ? too many, so I cancelled the Paste Operation
After that The Drive Name reverted to just ?F? Disk in Explorer
Showing No Files on it
I ran Checkdisk from inside Windows to Fix File Error... Read more

Hi there to everyone.
I am a complete novice so would welcome some advice.
I recently bought an IOMEGA 500 GB storage device. if i leave it connected and try booting the computer as normal it comes up with an error message saying unkown device ( a bit like when you leave a floppy disc inserted)
i therefore have to leave the device disconnected, boot up as normal and then switch it on.
Not the biggest problem in the world but its annoying.
how can i leave the storage device permanently connected and switched on.
I formatted the device when i got it.
Do i need to alter settings in bios or something.

Cheers
Dave

Hello all, I am at my wits end and i wonder if anyone can help. I have a 500GB external iomega hard drive. I had only used it a handful of times to back up such things as holday snaps and my itunes music and video library. This was basically to free up my laptops memory.
I then plugged into the usb port on my PS3 console and found it was in FAT32 so dragged game saves across to do the same thing for my PS3. I then used it to drag music to my iphone and left it for a week, however now the PS3 wont recognise it and nor will my computer , and i have no idea why not.
There is power to the hard drive via external 12v power source and the blue light on it shows that power goes to it, but when plugged to any other console or laptop it does not show signs of being read.
Any one able to shed light on this and help with an answer?

Hi guys,
Don't know very much about the technical side of pcs/HDD's, so please bare with me. Basically, I bought an Iomega Prestige primarily to connect up to my ps3. When I connected it, the ps3 wouldn't recognise this. A quick google search and I thought I'd uncovered the problem. The HDD is NTFS and ps3 will only recognise FAT32?
So then thinking I was a boffin I decided to try and re-format the HDD to FAT32, which I couldn't manage to do. Whatever I did do (I can't exactly remember). Anyways, when I try and connect my HDD to my laptop it doesn't come up on the G drive which it did before. It only shows up on the F drive. When I click into this it only comes up 'autorun' and 'Iomega Encryption Utility'. I clicked into the encryption utillity and thought that resetting the hard drive would fix whatever it was I messed up. Still it doesn't show up on the G drive. When I go to disk management, I can see the hard drive under 'Disk 1', but states it is 'unallocated'.
Sorry if this is a bit long-winded but can anyone suggest how I can get my laptop to recognise my HDD in the G drive again, so at least I can back up my ever-growing media files on it.
Many thanks.

A:Iomega Prestige 500gb portable hard drive problems. Please help!

google search a program like "partion manager freeware", run the program, and you should be able to format the unallocated space to a FAT32(for your ps3) or ntfs for your laptop if you so chose.

I was curious if some one might be able to help me please...I have a vaio vpcf121gx. A 500Gb hdd Western Digital hard drive and I picked up a Crucial MX200 ssd 500gb. I took the hdd out and put the ssd in. Tried to do a clean install with win7 pro 64 bit recovery disks. After loading all the disks right after it loads the registry it kept telling me that win 7 can not finish the installation due to new hardware being un compatible. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

A:I want to swap 500Gb hdd with a 500Gb sdd. Hardware not compatible???

How about just "cloning" you existing spinner hard drive to the SSD? Using "recovery media" isn't really a from-scratch install of Windows, even if it worked. It's a way to restore the exact factory image as your machine was initially delivered, with whatever came pre-installed from Sony. I don't know why it couldn't be used although it's obvious your new SSD is not the factory spinner.

But it's very easy to "clone" from HD to SSD, using a number of free products to do that... e.g. Macrium Reflect Free ("clone"), Partition Wizard 9 ("migrate OS to SSD/HD"), etc.

You would need to be able to see BOTH drives at the same time, so you should remove the SSD and reinstall the spinner back into the machine so that you can boot to it again and install the cloning product you wish to use.

Then you can connect the SSD temporarily as an external drive through an inexpensive USB 3.0 adapter like this one from Kingwin.

Then use the desired software product to "clone/migrate" from spinner to SSD. The advantage of this is that you'd immediately have your existing fully customized environment already living on the new SSD, and you wouldn't have to reinstall 3rd-party products or re-customize Windows. The SSD environment would immediately be ready-to-go.

Once the cloning if finished, now you can remove the spinner and install the SSD. I'd say you're almost done. Once you're up and running on the SSD, don't forget to adj... Read more

A:Iomega down

Try it on another computer and try another USB cable. USB drives frequently break due to the nature of their use, it's possible that either the USB part for the enclosure has failed/broken or the the internal drive has failed or broken. If you want the data off it or want to attempt to salvage it and not worried about warranty then you can disassemble the unit and remove the drive and try the drive internally in a computer, it's just a SATA drive inside, or attempt to use it with another enclosure and hope the drive is not dead.

Anny: Try copying the file from the zip to your hard drive using Windows Explorer. Then try working on it from your hard drive. If you successfully get it copied to your hard drive, I would run scandisk on your zip drive and see if you can't recover that file. If not, format the zip drive, making sure there are no bad sectors (if so, trash the zipdisk), and copy the file back onto it if the zip is still good.

I have and Iomega HDD120 External Desktop FireWire/USB 2.0 Drive, and recently it just stopped working. The other day, I got on my pc, and tried to load up my harddrive, and as soon as I powered it on, it started to make a clicking/grinding sound. So, I went to Iomega, called them, and looked at the FAQ, and it said to immediately power it down, as leaving it on could strip the drive. So, I did. I then went to their data recovery site, and they said that it would cost $5,000 to retrieve my data. I don't have that kind of money, is there anyway that I could retrieve it for less money? This has everything of mine since I was 5 years old, so it is really important to me!

Hi there:

I have an Iomega 100 Zip Drive. Yeah, I know it's a few years old! The reason I still use it is because I have several discs and it's been working- up until now.

Today, I put in a disc and what normally happens is a little green light in the front comes on and begins flashing then the light goes out. That same green lit button is what I can use to eject the disc. Now, what's happening is the light stays on solid green. I cannot eject the disc. And my computer is not even detecting the hardware by showing me the icon when I click on "My Computer".

Is it something to do with my computer? Or the Zip Drive itself? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Everyone,

I have a Iomega 16x10x40 CD-RW and can't seem to get it to work. I plugged it in the USB port and it finds it and asked for a driver. So I went to the web site and this is what they said:
Drivers are not required to be downloaded. All necessary drivers are included in the OS, except for Windows 95/98. This means that your CD-RW drive will be detected as a CD-ROM drive, but you will NOT be able to burn CD's unless CD burning software is installed.

Any Ideas?

Preciate It,
Cybertaz

My OS is Win98SE, software is Nero. The Computer recognises the hardware, but the hardware will not accept that there is a RW or R disc ready to be used. Could it be a laser problem? It will read a commercial disc if I persevere. Any ideas please, it is driving me mad. Yes I have spent hours with the Iomega helpline and still no luck.

Sounds like a aspi layer corruption. Try relaoding a aspi layer or use Forceaspi. http://aspi.radified.com/

Check www.iomega.com for any types of "Firmware" or "Driver" updates. If there are two, get both.
