I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't think its possible, although I have no experience in overclocking, one of the comments on that tutorial is:

SpeedFan was made with desktops in mind. Notebooks control the fans differently compared to desktops. It will not work.

Is your laptop in a well ventilated place? Have you considered getting a cooling mat? Is the fan nice and clean? That last one is very important, my laptop was reaching 89 celsius before I removed the crap from the fan, now it reaches 58

Just a rough test:

1. No slideshow on desktop;
2. Backup the registry file;
3. Turn on the slideshow (Desktop - Personalize - Desktop Background - Select All - Save Changes);
4. Run the backup registry file;

The desktop starts with the original picture (the desktop wallpaper picture originally used) and still loops through the directory containing the original wallpaper.
No changes made by the registry file.

The slideshow (if wanted to turn off) isn't really controlled by the Registry?

The faugni application won't run due to driver signing. I've tried speed fan to no avail. My Dell 1750 Windows 7 Professional keeps turning off because of overheating. I can't afford to get a mat right now, but I was wondering if there is any program that I can use to keep the fan running enough to lower the temps that are causing the problem.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

A:Can I control my fan speed?

The fan's speed (in most cases) is decided on how hot the processor is, or how much power is in use. I don't think it's possible to control it.

This is an area where HP kinda pisses me off

they hide/disable a bunch of settngs in the BIOS settings, such as fan speed and WoL.

Does anyone know how i can monitor/control fan speeds?
i have tried sppedfan, but it doesn't seem to do anything but monitor my CPU temp. I can set a desired temp for my CPU, but that doesn't the actual temp or the fan speed. When i look into the tab that has fans in it, theres nothing there. I have also tried nTune, as i have an Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS video adapter.

Is there a program other than the two i tried to control fan speed? or a way to manually do it?

It depends on what motherboard you have, that will allow Speedfan to work properly. The fans that can be controlled must have 3-wires. You can always install a fan controller, if you really need to control fan speed

Hello all,i recently bought a new PSU and so far it seems to do the job quite well, however when i run certain more demanding games like The Witcher 3 and the PSU itself goes into high load, the fan makes quite a lot of noise.

Most reviews i saw online about the PSU seem to say it's not loud at all,and granted it's not loud while in idle. The question is, is it possible to somewhow lower the PSU fan speed ? The sound it makes is similar to a cheap office fan, however as i said, while in idle it's dead silent.

PSU : seasonic M12II-620 EVO Edition

PC specs :

- FX 8350
- G1 Gigabyte 1070
- 1 x HDD
- 990xa-ud3 MB
- 16 gb ram hyperx savage
- 4 x case fans

A:PSU Fan Speed control ?

It should not make the excessive noise you describe
Indeed even with the fan running it should be very quiet as it is a fluid type fan bearing, far quieter than a simple sleeve bearing as found on cheaper PSU`s or indeed quieter than a standard ball bearing

Are you sure you have it mounted correctly
http://seasonic.com/position-power-supply/

I will check the base requirements of your system on the info I have and post back. If you have bought the minimum PSU wattage then you should not have done so
For instance minimum system requirements 600 watt always buy next up eg 700/750 watt

Although the PSU meets the based requirements of the system 125watt CPU and 150 watt graphics, the recommended psu for the card being 500 watt that of course does not take account of other components - hard drives etc OR indeed OC

See this
Seasonic recommend it for office use and causal gaming

If Speedfan doesn't work, then most propably any else program won't work either. You could want to replace the fan with a controllable one or get a voltage regulator for the fan or for all the fans in one.

May i know how windows registry control all the newly installed software. that means how it assigns registry keys to newly installed software. And also what are the modifications done in xp file structure after installling new software??

A:registry control

The Windows System Registry

What Is a Windows System Registry?
The system registry is one of the most important parts of a Windows-based computer system. Not to be tampered with lightly, the registry is a system-defined database used by the Windows operating system to store configuration information. Most Windows applications write data to the registry during installation, and system components store and retrieve configuration data through the registry. The data stored in the registry varies according to the version of Microsoft Windows.
Registry Structure: The Tree, Nodes and Keys
The data is stored in the registry in a tree structure format, for those who have never opened the Registry Editor, you'd find its layout is similar to what you would see when you open your Windows Explorer. Each node within the registry tree contains a key which may have both subkeys and data entries (called values). Depending on the application you run, the application may need only the associated key while others may need the value data set for that specific key. A hive in the registry is a group of keys, subkeys, and values in the registry that has a set of supporting files containing backups of its data. The Windows boot process automatically retrieves data from these supporting files.

Bought used M58-7360. Fan never speeds up. Stays around 25% I'd guess. I was transcoding video in plex and cpu usage was at 100% and cpu temp was at 170 degrees F and rising. I pulled a wire attached to the "thermal" pin on the front of the mobo to get fan to speed up and cooled the cpu down. After researching, apparently the only way to control the fan speed is the "quiet technology" setting under the ME selection in the Intel AMT software that you access by pressing ctrl+p at boot. I got to the area where it should be listed and it isn't there. It isn't in the normal bios. I installed speedfan program but it doesn't "see" the fan. I've also tried resetting cmos. Please help!

I want to turn my fan on high for my high performance or balance setting because my laptop puts out a lot of heat sometimes even reaching a tjmax of 221 F or I believe its 105 C. I just got it and I am a heavy mmo gamer which doesn't weigh as much as a FPS so I figured it could handle it. Which it does pulling 100+ frames in FPS and MMOs. My problem is the overheating and last I checked 180F-190F is pretty hot for a laptop, but my fan won't turn on high cause of the stupid acer CPU %over desire = %+ of its speed which is retarded. I was wondering if anyone knows a program that will bypass the acers third party prevention system so I can turn on the speed to max.

Is there any way to control the fan speeds on the system? I checked the bios but since my fans arn't stock (upgraded) they dont appear. No Vista option for the fan speeds either. I have downloaded various programs, SpeedFan ect, but none seem to make my runs run at 100% Its always ranging from 50% to 60%.

Also, are there any good programs to overclock the CPU? I'm having alot of trouble with my MSI Neo P45 motherboard. I've got the right components and all, but it wont let me overclock my QX6700 past 2.8 when it was 2.66. I want to at least get it to 3.44ghz.

A:Fan Speed Control and Overclocking

Hi,

Not sure what's going on with your fans are you sure they are supposed to run at 100% ? - are the correct options enabled in the Bios - worth checking the manual or get it from your mobo's website - also see if they have an updated Bios available.

CPUID has oc'ing functions - it warns you it's at your own risk, of course - they also do HWMonitor which should help you see what's going on with your fans and temps.

CPUID

Hope this does the trick

Either of these,

should work. Or you can try RivaTuner,

which the other two are based on. RT may not work as it hasn't been updated in a while, and may have problems it you are using an unsupported driver.

Can I set the internet speed so that I could lower their speed?

A router with QoS may or may not really help. Probably more helpful would be to upgrade (if any of these are available) to higher DSL bandwidth or cable or fiber.

First time posting here so hoping I do not mess up...

Anyway, my question is about controlling the speed of a mouse that is used on a system that has no settings panel for it. To expand that, I have a Security DVR setup that has mouse support but no keyboard support and all control has to be done with the mouse. Unfortunately, the mouse is way to fast for me and with the embedded firmware, no way to slow it.

Curious if they make a mouse that has a built in physical adjustment for the speed, or some kind of inline control to put between the mouse and USB port that could do this.

I've got 8.1 on a Dell Inspirion 5738 laptop, I have a generic usb mouse attached. My problem is the mouse pointer slowly starts speeding up until it gets so fast I have no accuracy. I mean I move my pinky and the cursor moves from one side of the 17" screen to the other. I go in Control Panel>Mouse>Pointer Options> and set the speed to a slower speed. At this point I only have one more notch to go down, and it's still a little faster than I want it. How do I control the speed, you know, how do I keep it from speeding up? Is there a way to keep it a set speed other than the above mentioned procedure?

Boohoo, no specs. In any case, a BIOS update may take care of it. I had a tornado going on my last board but a quick check and a BIOS update fixed it. There's usually fan control in the BIOS as well. Some motherboard manufacturers provide utilities that will allow fan and temp changes and/or alarm settings. System specs would go a long way in helping to provide specifics.

Two days ago, something hit my PC. See "Problem with audio" for details.

It came down to the fact that a registry entry was made. It changed the settings on my Realtek audio. It set the Realtek audio to "padded cell," which made all my sound terrible.
After fixing that, I got rid of the registry entry and thought all was well.

Today, I couldn't start my Mailwasher program. I don't use a mailbox. Maliwasher lets me manage mail without downloading it, and I love the program.

I ran a check of my registry and found at least 4 new entries. After getting rid of them, I could launch Mailwasher again.

Something, it seems, is able to keep slapping my PC through registry entries.

Question: Is there an app I can use where any new registry entry has to pass only with my permission?  I don't think I'd need it long. (I hope).

I've always wondered why registry entries aren't able to be policed by the user, when they try to enter without my knowledge. The registry is the heart of an OS, yet entries can be made by other people without my knowledge. I'd call that a major vulnerability.

How can I get control of that?

A:How can I control registry entries?

I'm not aware of a way control registry entries
--- I know what you mean about editing registry editing and the associated results you mention
However I create a monthly system image backup on/about the weekend before Patch Tuesday or installing a new program
--- I've had to revert back to a system image restoration only twice over the years but each time it was an easy process

Hello!
A few hours ago, my laptop had its second BSOD in a year; it said that the ROM was trying to be written to. I wasn't too concerned, but I told my tech-savvy friend and she wanted to try and help.

A few minutes later, I was in the registry and she practically laid an egg when I told her my control set went to 'ControlSet037'. She went into a flurry of 'Back up your hard drive! Restore back to the date of purchase!', which has gotten me very, very worried. My laptop has been perfectly fine for the guts of eleven months after having a nasty bout of Virtumonde the month I purchased it, but the lovely guys here made sure my laptop was fine.

I know control sets are only supposed to go up to 002, but how dangerous is this exactly? I'm very worried.

I'm not sure how much good this'll do if it's a registry problem, but here's a HijackThis log:

HP Omen 17 so noisy - how to control fan speed? My new HP omen 17 w010ng drives me crazy - it is so noisy. Even if the Geforce is switched off, the left fan starts to switch on very easily, running a Youtube video is enough. I have read about HP Control software allowing to control fan speed - it was very difficult to install and I only found out that the ventilator settings are already on normal. I switched the ventilators off in Bios, still not much change. Then i ensured in the graphic driver that Geforce is only used for Lightroom and Photoshop, this helped a bit, but still I see that ventilators speed up far earlier then required. I have tried HWinFO64, but no fan speed controls are possible. The freeware Speedfan is the same, I see the fan speed but cannot control it.  I found the freeware Notebook FanControl, but there is no configuration file for Omen 17 available. Did anybody out there solve the problem? How can I control and reduce the fan speed?

I want to able to slow Intrenet Explorer yet keep Mozila Firefox at its normal rate.

So i don't wish to slow all applications and their access to the internet, just Internet Explorer.

What i am trying to do is to limit the usage that IE uses, e.g. max of 5MB/hour, but i don't wont it to reach the limit then just stop working, I want it to be constant so that it can keep working yet not exseed a limit.

Is this possible?

If so how can this be done?

Thank you to all who contribute to this question i appreciate it!

Hi all,
I just installed my new GTX580 and would like to know how to set fan profiles for general internet browsing and gaming as they are constantly at 100% and noisy, I don't mind while gaming because I wear my headset but my missus is stressing me out when she watches TV in the same room. Basically, I would like to lower the fan speeds when not gaming but not sure how to do this. I have the GPU Tweak Utility installed and can manually slide the fan percentage bars but one reverts back to 100% when I click APPLY. I am then asked to BURN but not sure what this means.
I also have MSI Afterburner but the option to move the fan slider is greyed out.
Thanks.

Look forward to any replies.

Paul.

I used this once on another computer and lost the steps. There are a few registry values you can change to make the XP mouse speed about equal to that in Win2K. Anyone know the trick? Thanks.

I have problem to install a software application and I believe the issue is that am trying to install it on an old PIII 1GHz, while the application requires a min. 2Ghz processor speed.
However, somebody was able to install the same application by temporarily changing the processor speed in the registry.

I guess this is expressed in MHz and I could only find one key under HardwareID, are there more keys in the registry ?

Thank you
Alex

Hi,My computer, which is approaching 4 or 5 years in age as I type this, is extremely slow, getting slower by the week, and has trouble running even Firefox properly.I have Windows XP (Professional?) and was wondering what steps I could take to speed this thing up.As I type this I am defragging it using MyDefrag but was wondering IF cleaning (aka removing unused registry files) would help speed it up as well?In the handful of years I've owned this computer, I've installed and uninstalled several programs and am pretty sure there are still registry files left over that were not removed.1. I am defragging it.2. I will be using CCleaner after that's done, any tips?3. And am wondering what other steps I should take to help my computer last through the year. Its running Windows XPIt has 1 GB DDR RAMAnd a AMD Turion-64 So it's not the fastest thing around, but it shouldn't be this slow. Thanks for the help.Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A:Need A Registry Cleaner To Speed Up Computer

Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:• Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.• Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to...
