x230 Touchscreen stops working?

Q: x230 Touchscreen stops working?

So the past couple of days I have noticed that the touch screen on my laptop hasn't been working like it use to. I'll be writing notes or homework in tablet mode or I'll be swiping in normal mode and about half of my writing, taps or swipes won't be recognized. It's really frustrating especially since it causes me to miss some notes in class. I have tried restarting it and that hasn't helped. I did factory reset it a few weeks ago, but I made sure to fix all my settings and calibrate everything after I did that. The touch screen was also working perfectly fine just last week. It just started happening after booting up one day. Does anyone know what I could do to fix this? I would send it in, but my warranty expired a few months ago.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there!  I've had my Lenovo Yoga ThinkPad 14 for less than two weeks, and I'm having some issues. For some reason, when I use the pen, I sometimes can not use the touchscreen with my fingers or another non-active stylus afterwards. Both the pen and the touchpad still work, but not the actual screen itself. It doesn't last forever, but I haven't found anything that fixes the problem immediately - even putting it to sleep doesn't work sometimes. I've tried taking the computer in and out of tablet mode, replacing the pen in the charging port, etc. I have also run the latest updates on my computer, and have had the issue both before and after. It just decides to stop working and then I have to wait until it decides to start working again. Frustrating when you're trying to take notes during a big phone call for work! I only have two or three days left to return the computer if this is a major issue, so I have two questions, really. 1) Does it seem like a software problem or a hardware problem? I.E. Is there a driver or something I can download to update a fix or something? Or do I need to get the laptop itself looked at? And 2) Is this a common problem? I've seen other posts about similar issues, but they seem to be a constant issue, not an intermittent one like mine.  Any help or advice would be appreciated! I don't want to get stuck with a half-functioning laptop because I didn't return it in time, but I also still like the computer itself.  ... Read more

I just bought this a couple weeks ago and worked ok out of the box but didn't have alot of time to really play with it. When I did get time I wanted to play Microsoft Solitaire Collection to find out it wasn't installed on 8.1 however I am eligible to upgrade to 10 for free so I did. Upgrade all fine but after a few minutes of toying with it the touchscreen stopped working. So I asked cust support for help. They say it's Windows 10, I say but it WAS working on 10. They insist its windows 10 and tell me I'll need to reset the machine. So reluctantly I do and poof still no touchscreen. Couple days go by and a few reboots later and it worked again for a few minutes then gone again!!??!? So I try drivers, updates, support and nothing. Figure finally screw it I'll just go back to 10 since I enjoy it more plus my progress on solitaire is saved lol. Day after I upgraded for the 2nd time I'm sitting on the couch with my morning coffee while the pc finishes booting. Just on a whim I tell my youngest Zackary Optimus to touch the screen and see if it works and lo and behold IT DOES!!! My excitement was short lived as after 2 games of solitaire a little browsing and mixing a couple of 2pac tunes the touch screen stops yet again!! Any ideas, suggestions, or help?

Hello, I received a brand new HP Spectrex360 and it worked completely fine but one day the touchscreen stopped working. I found that the touchscreen function works completely fine every time I turn on/restart the laptop, but only for the first couple minutes, then strangely the screen stops receiving or detecting any touch.I thought it could possibly just be a setting that makes the touchscreen function turn off after a short amount of time of not being used. I've searched the settings but nothing seems to be off. Thank you for your time!

Originally I posted in a different forum, just trying to reach out to those in need as I once was.....:

Attention Everyone
This is the problem with most Tech Support teams.....they look too deeply into the problem and not at its face value. The Touchscreen driver is a HID USB Input device. Meaning the computer does not know if a device is being used until it actually is. I went round and round with Dell Tech Support and all they managed to do was update drivers that didn't need it and one young lady actually downloaded the wrong device thinking the touch screen is a part of Dell Touchpad, aka MOUSE!!! REALLY!!!
Think about it, if you are not using the touchscreen and keeping it active, in this energy efficient world and age, a system would turn off unnecessary devices!!
THE SOLUTION: Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus Controllers - Generic USB Hub Properties -( Under POWER tab: the one that  has "HID-compliant Device 100mA" attached) Power Management - UNCHECK-"Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"
If you have problems or not sure if it the correct HID-compliant Device, just look under the Driver Details and hit the drop down box to scroll through all those different labels until it clearly says "Touchscreen" under "Bus Reported Device Description"
Fixed my problem pretty easily.
As the sounding of my post can be taken as a bit on the rude/sarcastic/completely irritated side, it is intended to hopefully save... Read more

HiHave been loving my Yoga 900 but the touchscreen has started acting up.  While it seems there are lots of issues with Yoga touchscreens I didn't find one quite like myne.I realised it works okay in laptop mode but as soon as the screen gets to about 100 to 120 degrees rotation - so before reaching the switch point to tablet mode - the touchscreen becomes unresponsive.  If rotate it back so it's 90 degrees or so then it starts working again.  If I boot with screen rotated then device manager has an exclamation mark for an I2C HID device, status says "This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the HID descriptor failed."  If boot with screen around 90 degrees then I see the touchscreen device running normally.Any ideas?I'm thinking maybe the ribbon cable could be the problem? How doable is opening up the display panel? Thanks for any thoughts!

Hi all,
I received my Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series 7559 a few days ago, and noticed that sometimes my touchscreen would stop working. I would shut down the laptop (and usually close the lid), then later turn it back on and the touchscreen would be working again.
When the touchscreen was not working, it would show up as an error under the Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus Controllers -> "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
What I noticed was that I could always fix the problem by 1) Moving my screen to 90 degrees open or less, and then 2) Restarting the laptop OR from Device Manager disable then re-enable the unknown USB device.
It is a consistent issue, I can use the touchscreen for a day or longer without rebooting as long as the screen stays no more than 90 degrees open, but as soon as I open the screen just a bit wider (to the max open width, I'd say about 105 degrees where the hinges no longer allow it to open), the touchscreen stops working within a couple seconds and then the USB error starts showing up under the Device Manager.
It's unfortunate because when it's sitting on my lap and I want to use the touchscreen, opening the lid all the way is the most comfortable viewing angle so I'd really prefer to be able to do it. I'm also thinking about opening up the case and looking for a loose connection, but with a brand new laptop I'd really rather not.
Anyway I wonder if anyone else has seen this i... Read more

I bought a used x230T a while ago. Initially the touchscreen worked fine but the motherboard failed after about a month, so I replaced it. After doing so, however, the screen no longer takes touch input of any kind and the webcam no longer works. Any attempts to reinstall drivers have not worked, and I sometimes get an error stating that no touch input hardware could be detected. I've also tried unplugging and replugging the ZIF connectors many times. Does anyone have any advice for other steps I could take or others things I could try? I got the tablet model specifically because of the touchscreen so it's been disappointing to go without it. Thanks for any tips you may have.

Hi All,

Just joined the forum to ask this question because you all seem like a knowledgeable group. I updated to Windows 10 just after it came out over the summer, and it worked great for a month or so. Since then, my touch screen has been acting up on my Dell XPS 15 9530.

At times, it works perfectly. My "System>About" will show 'Touch Support with 10 Touch Points,' Device Manager will list the touch screen under HIDs, and the touchscreen is fully functional. However, for no reason that I have been able to discover, it not only stops working, but the laptop also seems to forget that it is a touch-enabled laptop from time to time. Device Manager will only list Airplane Mode options, and the "System>About" says 'No pen and touch available for this display.'

These days, when it does work, it's on startup, but this isn't always the case. It does sometimes begin working again while I've been using it for some amount of time (it's hard to tell when this happens because there's zero indication that it has begun to work again). Regardless, most of the time the device is convinced it isn't touch supported, whether on startup or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I'll try to provide any info necessary to get to the bottom of this one.
Thanks!

Greetings,
I use a Planar PX2230 touchscreen monitor with 64-bit Win7. The problem I have is that the touchscreen works great for approximately 10 minutes and then stops responding. I have read elsewhere that this exact same condition has affected other touchscreen
models, but no one has offered a working solution. The only two options are 1) reboot or 2) unplug and plug in the USB cable.
Other pertinent information: The Planar support website stipulates that this monitor is designed
only for Windows 7 and is "HID compliant - no drivers needed for touchscreen operation" (which I guess if it only works for ten minutes at a time, technically they are correct). I am not using multiple monitors/extended desktop.
What has not worked: turning monitor on and off, replacing the USB cable (shorter cable), updating video drivers (none available), turning off power saving, going into Power Options and switching the "USB selective suspend" setting to either setting (neither
makes a difference). Lastly, device manager does not show any issues after the screen stops responding.
I've been living with reinserting the USB cable for a while now since it is not my primary workstation but in the time I've been using this workaround I really thought I would see a solution by now.

Hi there, I've just purchased a X230 from a friend. I had not noticed the moment I took it, but the wifi LED is not working on my laptop. The wifi is working well but not the led. My X230 is working under Debian/GNU Linux, but it does not work with Windows too. I have tried to install a WWAN module from a X220 and got the Unauthorized network card error. Maybe something went wrong at that moment I don't know. I have just updated the BIOS to the 2.62 version but no change. Any idea ?

A:[X230] Wifi led is not working

Please notice that x230's wireless network status LED indicator is combined to one which is different from older ThinkPads. There's only one indicator looks like a WIFI icon for all wireless communications - WLAN/WWAN/Bluetooth/WiMAX, which means any one of them is on, the indicator is on, and all of them are shutdown, the indicator becomes off. So, if you are familiar with older ThinkPads, you may be confused.

As an example of such issue and troubleshooting:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Lenovo-X220-Conexant-20672-SmartAudio-NO-SOUN...Also, try to reset BIOS/EC, it'll remove electric voltage from the laptop parts, chips: unplug the battery and charger, press the power button and hold it during 20...30 seconds. Then enter BIOS Setup, load default settings and change the ones you need.

I recently started getting very annoying problem. Firefox or other program stops responding and alt+ctrl+del stops working at the same time so I have to reboot. It happens quite often.

What I did already:
*Maybe virus? Full boot time system scan with Avast anti-virus. Nothing found.
*Oh well reinstall windows again... Yes, I did that too. Still same problem BUT ONLY after small break like two days or so.
And most confusing thing is that full screen programs like games do not seem to stop responding. Still, they BSOD like after few hours, but I do not think it is related. Like heavy load or something.

My system details hopefully in my forum profile, at least filled them recently.

So any other ideas how I can fix that?

It sounds like hardware failure but try one more thing:

Reboot into BIOS setup (by pressing F1 at the ThinkPad logo screen).
Go to the security -> fingerprint menu.
There's an option about clearing the fingerprint sensor storage (or something like that).
What happens?

My touchscreen does not work consistently. I removed Windows 10 and restored 8.1. I performed a factory reset. I have tried everything suggested on various forums and after what looked like potentially helpful responses on this forum, none of them worked. I have now discovered that if I run Command Prompt as an Administrator and enter sfc /scannow, part way through touchscreen starts working. However, it does say that not all processes could be rectified. Touchscreen then works for a while, and when it next stops, running sfc /scannow again does the trick. Is this a Registry fault? Can I fix Registry problems without loading unwanted costly software? Any ideas? My process of Command Prompt (as Administrator) then sfc /scannow doesn't take long, but is a bit of a nuisance! Help! Gordon

A user on another forum who had the same problem said that is was an issue with the HID devices that correspond to the touchscreen getting disabled. Here the quote: SOLUTION that WORKED for ME:Goto Windows Device Manager (WDM) @ section, "Human Interface Devices" (HID).Note, you will NOT see anything labeled, "Touchscreen" in the entire HID list.Right-Click menu for each HID should look like the following list:      "Update Driver Software..."     "Disable"     "Uninstall"     "--------------"     "Scan for hardware changes"     "--------------"     "Properties" Obviously, if the right-click menu's 2nd item = "Disable" then it's already EnabledSOLUTION is to ENABLE each HID that 2nd item = "Enable" ALL OF THIS WOULD'VE BEEN MUCH EASIER IF THE DISABLED HID WAS LABELED, "TOUCHSCREEN"but sad to say it wasn't... and that's why I had to check each HID if it was enabled or not.

It is my understanding that this means my computer doesn't support touch, however I have used the touch screen on my computer before, I know it has it. Is there any possible way I may have accidentally uninstalled something required to us touchscreen on my computer? Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem?

Hi I've just had to reinstall Windows 10 on a B50-30 AIO (it came with 8.1 but I took advantage of the free upgrade).  As a consequence the touchscreen is no longer working.  Could someone possibly point me in the direction of what drive/exe I have to get to re-enable Many thanks

I accidently closed my laptop with the usb for a wireless mouse left on the opposite side off the keyboard where the power button is placed. It left a very small crack on the screen. I can?t even feel the crack. But yet the touchscreen does not work. How can such a small crack on the bottom right of the laptop screen, cause the entire screens touch feature to not work? Is there anything I can do to get the touch screen to work without replacing the entire screen?

MY DELL TABLET/LAPTOP INSPIRION 15'S TOUCHSCREEN IS NOT WORKING. I ONLY HAD THE COMPUTER 2 MONTHS. IT WORKED FINE UNTIL LAST WEEK. I AM NOT SURE IF IT DID ANY UPDATES. HOWEVER WHEN I GO TO DEVICE MANAGER IT NO LONGER HAS HID TOUCHSCREEN. I CAN FIND THE HID TOUCHSCREEN UNDER HIDDEN DEVICES BUT IT IS GRAYED OUT. THERE IS NO OPTION TO ENABLE OR REINSTALL. WHEN I UPDATE THE DRIVER IT SAYS I ALREADY HAVE THE MOST UP TODATE DRIVER. IT SAYS IT IS NOT CURRENTLY CONNECTED THOUGH (CODE 45). HOW DO I FIX THIS?

A:TOUCHSCREEN NOT WORKING

I'm assuming windows 10(or windows 8.1) is on the system....
I'd suggest you use System Restore tool on the system. At the left bottom taskbar, right click windows icon, click System, and then System Protection.
