Windows not Genuine, Validating gives error 0xc004F063 Bios license

Q: Windows not Genuine, Validating gives error 0xc004F063 Bios license

Hi, First time poster here. I am just recently having issues with my computer saying windows it not genuine. I found this forum through another thread of a person who had basically the exact same issues as I did here: Windows Genuine and Activation Issue

I too bought this PC originally from best buy or some place, and it came with no windows CD or anything. I went 2 years without formatting, finally I got sick of it and when I installed my new SSD I finally had to do it. The best advice I found was doing the same as OP, downloading the copy of windows from digital rivers and entering in my windows key(which I had lost as well but recovered using one of the software tools).

I installed windows about 4-5 weeks ago, I have rebooted many times since and only in the last day did it start giving me this same windows it not genuine error. Upon trying to validate my key it will error out, and I get the same

code:
0xc004F063
the software licensing service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license

How can I take this key from the side of my computer case and make windows genuine again? Someone in another post I found said something about a command "wmic bios get serialnumber" and thats the same exact number that comes up thats on the side of my case. Is this the right one, or should I be looking inside the case for ANOTHER key that fits the windows key length? The key off the side of my machine is only about 10 digits and I am un sure of what the poster in the original quote meant when he talked about COA SLP. Any help is much appreciated. I have never before had an issue like this, I would very much like to avoid paying for windows again since I have a key. At the very very worst, if I did buy an entirely new key for $100 or whatever the cost currently is, would it fix it or would I be looking at the same issue with bios as I am now? I have the windows disc I burned the digital divers ISO onto to install windows to my SSD, Would booting up on the CD and repairing or anything work?

This is a quote from this thread I linked above, here that is basically the exact situation I am having but my sticker is not faded.

OEM SLP: This is the key that came in Windows (from the factory). It works by connecting to a BIOS flag (the SLIC table) found only on computers from that Manufacturer. It also checks for the existence of proper matching licenses in the OS itself. Once it sees both, it self-activates every time the machine is rebooted.

COA SLP: This is the key seen on the sticker located on the side, bottom or in the battery compartment of your machine. This key is for use if the OEM SLP self-activation stops working for whatever reason.

The Key in your report is the OEM_SLP Key - which requires that it be installed using the Recovery media.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sorry for posting in haste without taking the time to properly look over everything. I found ANOTHER sticker which had the proper key further back on my computer base that was listed as win7 home premium OA HP with a totally different windows key which I just entered via the system change product key and it authenticated as genuine. Big thank you to this community for the knowledge that was already right in front of my face!

For others having this issue, Hopefully your sticker is still intact and readable. If you are getting this same issue, Just find the sticker on your computer or laptop(apparently laptop fades WAY quicker if not covered up by something to make it more long lasting) and enter the OA key that looks exactly like windows key into the change product key option on System.

YOu've reinstalled Windows using a Retail disk, taher than the manufacturer's recovery media - and used the Key you found with a KeyFinder, or on the internet, rather than teh Key on your COA sticker.

Assuming y your COA sticker is for Windows 7 Home Premium, use the link at teh bottom of the System properties page to change the Key to the one on your sticker and you should be OK.

Hi,I have a ThinkCenter desktop mashine. It's about 8 years old. Recently I replaced the HDD with an SSD and reinstalled Windows7 on it from a DVD that I received from a friend. During installation I proveded the Windows7 product key as requested by the installer. During the Windows activation process I received a 0xC004F063 error message, indicating that the BIOS driver is missing a licence, so the activation can't be done.  I then called Microsoft Support to activate via phone, but was told, that only Lenovo can do the reactivation. Can you please help what to do? Thank you in advance!

Hi,

I had to replace a failed HDD in a Win 7 laptop. The laptop is An Acer 5738Z (Intel CPU), and without any setup CD. I have another laptop which is the AMD version of this one so is very similar. I do have a Win7 CD for this and have used it to install windows on the 5738Z. It all seemed to work fine and I used the CD key which is printed on the target machine so I thought that all the licencing should be ok.

It seems not, I am getting an error 0xC004F063 which says the BIOS version is not right.

I feel surprised that it has a problem since the Win7 disc used is supplied by Acer (although for my AMD laptop).

Does anyone know of a way around this problem?

A:0xc004f063 Error Says not genuine windows

You can use any retail disk to clean reinstall factory OEM with the Product key on COA sticker, as long as it is same version: Reinstalling Windows 7

Your problem is likely using the Acer-supplied Reinstallation DVD for another computer which has the SLP (factory) activation slipstreamed into it.

Did you have to type the Product Key?

Try changing the Product Key at Computer>Properties to the one on the COA sticker. If that doesn't work find a Win7 retail installer to use to do the clean reinstall so that the SLP activation on the Acer DVD doesn't interfere.

I bought this computer about 3 years ago from a friend, but recently the hard drive gave up the ghost. I replaced it and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium (I had to use a friend's installation CD as I didn't have mine) and used the key I'd pulled from the previous hard drive (I had to use a program as the sticker is unreadable now). It installed and updated fine for about 1 1/2 to 2 months - until today when I was told my copy of Windows was not genuine and, when I tried to authenticate it by reentering the key, was given error code 0xc004f063.

A:Windows not genuine error 0xc004f063 after reinstallation on new HDD

Welcome bearrorist

The key code you probably pulled from the HD was the MFG universal key code. It will not work for a re-activation.

That is why the Key Code on the COA sticker is so important and valuable, therefore protected & saved as a hard copy document for the future when needed.

Hello,
I purchased a computer from a local shop last summer that has since gone out of business. About a month ago, I started getting the BSOD with multiple errors, most were hardware related. I used a friend's Windows 7 CD but used my license # to reinstall windows, because I was not given a CD. I didn't do a clean install; I clicked "upgrade" so my data would not be wiped out. That solved the BSOD problems.

Now today, I received a message that my version of Windows 7 is not genuine.

I tried to activate it by changing the product key. I rec'd the following message:

Code 0xC004F063
The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license.

Any advice? Am I screwed? Would updating the BIOS help?

A:Is my copy of Windows 7 Ulitimate genuine? Error 0xC004F063

How sure are you that the Windows product key you got when you originally bought the PC is legit?

How sure are you that the disc you later borrowed from your friend is legit?

You could download an ISO from MyDigitalLife.info, burn it to disc, and install from that disc, but you would still need a valid product key to activate it.

Hi...I have read all other available posts on this issue, and tried following relevant instructions, but can't resolve my problem.

About 2 months ago, my laptop (Samsung NP-P530) was infected with malware. We formatted the hard drive and re-installed windows. I had a copy of all my licence keys and had previously backed-up all my files. After about a month, i started receiving notifications that my copy of windows was not genuine, even though I am using the same product key that was on the laptop before the rebuild. I have not changed any hardware
I have checked the BIOS version is the same as that on Samsungs website

Hello guys,

A month back i purchased an SSD for my old HP envy laptop(purchased in 2010).
I removed the old harddrive and chuked in the ssd in its place and reinstalled the windows home prem x64 edition using the the key extracted from my windows installation on my old harddrive.

Everything seemed to be running well then and windows update downloaded a ton of updates since then

But suddenly since yesterday i kept getting the "copy not genuine error" windows build 7601

I ran check disk and it showed no errors.
Is there a way to make my copy of windows run on my ssd properly ?
I still have the one installed on my old harddisk (currently its lying around without being used ..probably it will run fine if i chuck it back in place of ssd - but i want to use my ssd)

Ohh and for ssd optimization i stopped quite a few services like indexing , system restore , date stamping and what not .. i dont remember all could this be the reason for genuine verification error ??

A:Genuine OEM Win Home Prem x64 fresh reinstall 0Xc004F063 error

You reinstalled using a retail disk and the key you got with a KeyFinder (which is only valid when used with the manufacturer's Recovery media).
You need to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker on the machine's case -you may need to activate by phone.

Hello,

I bought a laptop from Lenovo (E545) with Windows 7 Professional x64 pre-installed with A LOT of bloatware. So stupid me decided to format and do a clean installation.

Lenovo did not provide me with a recovery disk or a Windows disk so I downloaded the image from Microsoft's website and made a boot-able USB as per their instructions. I used Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to get the CD key and product ID information I needed.

After the installation, everything seemed fine for a few days. Then I got the "This copy of Windows is not genuine" error, along with the black desktop background. When trying to re-activate, I receive error 0xC004F063. When I click on more information, I'm informed: "The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license."

I was hoping someone can take a look at the diagnostic report below:

I maybe 3 weeks ago got an SSD and formatted it, went through the trouble of downloading everything etc. Windows at first didn't have a problem with my key. Now it does.

I read in another thread in this forum that with OEM versions (I have one), the product key one finds with a key finder (my old hard drive is still connected), is just a generic one, and that something in the BIOS should handle the activation.

There was a set of commands including "net stop sppsvc" "rename tokens.dat (...)", that was supposed to help solve it. But that didn't work for me, so now I'm asking myself.

Here's my MGADiag report:

You have reformatted, and then reinstalled using the manufacturer's OEM_SLP Product Key - this Key ONLY works when used together with the manufacturer's Recovery media.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

Probably not, you will have to go out and purchase a legal version of Windows. That is the only fix and it is going to get worse.

I have suddenly had a machine running windows 7 Professional start popping up saying that Windows is not genuine, I have since reactivated and reactivated it, slui.exe shows that it is activated too.

I have searched for KB3004394 which has not been installed on this machine, I have checked the service startup types and attempted to run sfc /scannow which finds the mismatched files but does not repair them. I have tried this also with a brand new Windows
key and I am still having this issue.

Hello, I am looking to upgrade my laptop from XP to Windows 7. Can anyone tell me the best place I can buy a key for cheap? I am looking for Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate, and I really don't care which one. I would like to do a fresh install not an "upgrade", though my computer is currently running a windows product as we speak. Hopefully the place I buy the key from will also have the software available for download. I have heard people mention finding licenses for $30-$40 before. Thank you all in advance for any help you can give me.

A:Best Place to buy Genuine Windows 7 license?

The only place is a legitimate seller such as ---http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=4622&name=Windows_7&srkey=windows%207%20operating%20system

If you have been told that you can get one for $30.00 -- run for the hills - they are fake.

Hi,

I recently set up window on my computer and it has been fine for months.
However, when I boot up all of a sudden this message comes up saying that my copy of windows is not genuine and it is not validated.

I just select cancel and the computer boots up fine.also there is now in the taskbar a small icon like a blue star saying that windows needs to be validated and i may be a victim of software fraud.

My friend set up the computer with his copy of windows.is this a problem and will it effect my computer and files or can i just ignore it and put it down to a bit of a annoyance.

Any help greatly appreciated.thanks.dougal (scotland)

A:My Genuine activation issue although I have a genuine license

Interesting.
The error message
Notification Reason: 0xC004F063.
...is a pretty specific one, and almost always means that the machine has been reinstalled using media other than the manufacturer's Recovery media, while still using the manufacturer's OEM_SLP Key instead of the COA Key.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed - according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)

I have had Win7 Home Premium installed for about 6 months. The key was recovered from an old laptop whose MoBo died, and the warranty expired. The first time I installed it, it was genuine. But now that I wanted to install Win10, it said my key was invalid. So I ran the Windows 7 Home premium installer (that's the key I had) and put in the key. It said it was valid until Windows booted up. It takes you to the same black screen with the corner that says "This copy of Windows is not genuine". I tried to verify the key but the key will not validate because of this error "0xc004F063 the software licensing service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license". I don't have another key and dont have the money to buy a new key. I don't know if this helps, but when I am not using the same laptop. I now have a gaming desktop that i have been using for about 6 months.

So, about a month or so ago, I had to go out to a restaurant with my family. I saw that I had 11 windows updates to install, and I left my computer to install them and go eat. We came back an hour later and I saw it was still updating on 7/11. So, I went and did other things for 2 more hours, came back and it was still on 7/11 updates. (I know the next thing is a 'bit' stupid) So, I force shut down my computer, and of course issues occurred. I think it was my graphics driver that messed up. I tried doing system restores, but they all failed.

Decided to do a factory restore after saving important files and grabbing my Product ID and CD Key with some program. Today, when I restarted my computer, it told me to activate my windows because it was not genuine.

I built my computer a few years ago and bought vista right before 7 was coming out so I got a free upgrade disc. I never bothered upgrading until I had to do a clean system install a couple months ago because my computer locked up.

A couple days after I installed vista and upgraded to 7, and before I activated my copy of windows 7, my PSU died. I finally got a new PSU and now when I try to activate my windows 7 I get this error.

Does the 30 days to activate actually mean anything? I ask because I didn't get to activate in the 30 day period since my PSU crapped out on me. Also, I had to use magic bean key finder to get the key because I cannot find my original upgrade case as it got lost in one of several moves apparently.

It says my copy is not genuine but it is. This is what makes me mad about microsoft. Things that should go smoothly never do.
What can I do to get this legit copy activated? I will be very displeased if I have to end up buying something even though this is legit.

Thanks for your help.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Hi,

Last few days my computer has been extremely slow on startup. Boots up fine, then takes 10 minutes where it will take commands from my mouse but won't actually load anything and then later on will go back to normal-ish speed (I think it's a bit more spiky but could just be me). Yesterday I noticed a message pop up on bottom right hand corner of my desktop telling me that my windows copy wasn't genuine build 7601. I know for a fact my windows licence is genuine as I bought it off ebuyer when I built this computer a couple years ago. I've run AVG, Malwarebytes, Spybot S & D and SuperAntiSpyware to try and get rid of the main virus. The only thing i've achieved is that the message is gone but startup is still slow.

Any help is much appreciated! My paste from MGAdiag is below.

There is no obvious error in your report - Windows shows as being genuine and activated.
There are a couple of really nasty pieces of work around at the moment, which many AVs have problems getting rid of.
I suggest downloading Windows Defender Offline and creating the boot disk or USB stick, and running that - see if it finds anything.

The installation is counterfeit.
You have an OEM_SLP Product Key from an ACER machine on a DELL computer - which can never legally work anyhow - built almost two years before windows 7 was released.
You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

Anyway today I turned it on and it said my windows was not genuine so I went to the activation tab and it said that my product key had never been properly activated which is a bit strange as I quite sure I activated it properly after I did the clean install. I tried reactivating it but it came up with the error code 0xc004f063 and I was really confused. I have not tried any of the solutions on any other threads as I know that sometimes it can mess up your computer if isn't specifically for your problem/system. I have posted the diagnostics below as recommended:

A:Alienware M17xr4 Windows 7 HP x64 Activation error code 0xc004f063

It looks like you reinstalled using Retail media, rather than the Alienware Recovery media.
That being the case, you MUST use the Product Key from your COA sticker for activation rather than the OEM_SLP Key currently in use.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

Windows 7 has decided after years that it needs activating. Unfortunately the product key has worn off the bottom of the laptop. I have used Belarc and magical jelly bean finder however the key they are both giving me if different from the one i can vaguely see on the bottom. If i try and activate windows with the key these programs have given me, it gives me the Error Code 0xc004f063. Anyone got any ideas of what i can do to fix this?

A:Error Code 0xc004f063 while trying to activate windows 7 home prem

Looks like you reinstalled using retail media, rather than the manufacturer's Recovery media.

You really need to try and read that COA sticker - it may be your only chance.

If you can't, then you'll have to try and order a set of Recovery disks from Fujitsu for your computer, and do a clean install from that.

A:Keep getting error 0xc004F063

The key you recovered from the old laptop will not activate on another compute. Most likely it was a OEM/SLP tied to the original computer it was first installed on.
I would like to verify what I'm thinking.

I have an ASUS netbook
I reinstalled Windows 7 because the computer was behaving strangely. The product key on the sticker on the computer was illegible (worn away) so I ran a free product key finder program to get the product key. After installation I entered this key. After a few weeks I started getting a message that my copy of Windows was not genuine. I reentered the key and it gave error code 0xC004F063 (BIOS missing a required license).
I ran the diagnostic tool and got this (see below). Can you help?

The error code usually means that you've reinstalled the OS from retail media.

You need to change the Product Key to the oneon the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the batterycompartment), using the Change ProductKey link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need toactivate by phone.

If so, it may have a pirated copy of Windows. Where in Poland are you? Trojmjasto by any chance?

Update:

I just made a clean install of a Home Premium English and used the microsoft product key on the sticker attached at the bottom of my laptop, and now it is already activated and all updates are working.

Hi all!

Forgive me if I posted at different folder or reposted same problem.

Just recently I purchased a Dell XPS 17 with Korean OS valid license (I guessed it's OEM). I asked the seller to change the system language to English. When I got home I update the system and to my surprise, I got the notification "Not Genuine". I went back to seller, he said that Microsoft can only recognize the system in Korean setting and since I changed it to English, hence it's fake.

My question would be, is there a way to have my ENglish setting be legally recognized by Microsoft? I am willing to pay additional fee for conversion, but my seller here in Korea can not speak in English well and so he just said I have to buy another English OS. I don't want to jsut throw my OEM Korean license away, I paid for this. Anyone has an idea?

Thank you so much in advance. Also, please do not get mad at me or shout at me if I have done wrong or violated some rules when posting.

Welcome to the windows 7 forums.

Who did you buy the Dell from? The license for the oem Korean is limited to the machine that it was installed on. The OEM license is not upgradeable to English so that means that you will have to purchase a full version of Windows English, if that is what you want.

Hi,
Our company buy almost 6 months ago the Microsoft Action Pack that includes Visual Studio 2013 with online login to Access the program.  A few days ago I started having this error message and I cannot access the application anymore.
Any advice on how to fix this?  I already contacted the MSDN support and they ask me to create a topic in this forum for help.  Or they will have to ask me for small fee($$$) to resolve their problem.

I have bought a new Lenovo Ideapad L340 gaming laptop which has at default a Windos 10 home installation. Because I want to use the hyper-V functionality of WIndows 10 Pro for study purposes, I have bought a valid WIndows 10 pro license from a reseller. But when I tried to "update" the license, I recieve the error message: "The product key you entered didn't work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one (0x004f050)" I found serveral so called sollution but none of them did work. Now I have the situation that I put the Bios in Legacy mode, so i can boot from USB stick. And made WIndows 10 installation USB with an iso from Microsoft (en_windows_10_consumer_editions_version_1903_updated_nov_2019_x64_dvd_24cb9de7.iso). But each time the installation seems to get the digital license from the Bios whick leads to a Windows 10 Home installation.  I tried serveral iso's , modified the ie.cfg and pid.txt files in the source directory of the installation directory.  Why is ugrading from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro that hard? Is there a way to bypass the digital license or how to add the new Windows 10 (OEM?) Pro license from a reseller (Not Microsoft Store) to my digital subscriptions? Thanks in advanced, William

Hi,

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Used since Win7 came out with no genuinity issues until now.

A short while after the SP1 update I started getting popups claiming my Windows is not genuine. I know for a fact that my Windows is genuine.

Properties show my Windows is activated. I have activated both online and by phone yet the popup still keeps appearing. The MGA diagnostics show that there is a tampered file and apparently it is causing the validation to flag my system as not genuine:

Code:
Windows Activation Technologies-->
HrOffline: 0x8004FE21
HrOnline: N/A
HealthStatus: 0x0000000000000200
Event Time Stamp: 4:20:2011 14:49
ActiveX: Registered, Version: 7.1.7600.16395
Admin Service: Registered, Version: 7.1.7600.16395
HealthStatus Bitmask Output:
Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slcext.dll|slcext.dll.mui
I have tried to fix this for a while now. The file seems to be associated with MUI packages and Something called Vistalizator.

I have checked the registry and there are no MUI's. US-EN only. I do not have anything called Vistalizator.

I am rather frustrated with googling in microsoft pages as they all lead to the Vistalizator and MUI packs but I don't have them so the fix does not apply.

Thanks.
