Unable to update Internet Explorer, SFC unable to fix corruption

Q: Unable to update Internet Explorer, SFC unable to fix corruption

Hi there!

There are similar threads about this problem but since the solution is always system specific, I figured I'd start a new thread.

I'm having issues with a few Windows updates, sometimes they work sometimes they don't but the Internet Explorer update never works. I had IE9, uninstalled it, now I have IE8. Any attempt to update via Windows Update fails (it downloads, installs, but then fails and reverts back during restart)

I have run SFC which finds corrupt files but is unable to fix them. I have attached the CBS log. Hoping somebody can help me with this, it's driving me in-sane!

Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Unable to update Internet Explorer, SFC unable to fix corruption

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unable to update Internet Explorer, SFC unable to fix corruption

One of the files it cannot fix, xlog.exe, has been reported as a trojan, please run a virus scan.

We are using IE11, with a proxy server using a PAC script. After updating to 11.0.41 (KB4014661), some HTTPS sites display an error:

"Revocation Information for the security certificate for this site is not available. Do you want to proceed?"

-This error comes up AFTER the site has already successfully loaded, without any user intervention or prompts.

-Occurs with various sites, with different commercial CAs. Have verified that some of the root CAs of affected sites are already in the trusted store.

-IE can see the full certificate chain, and states all certificates are OK (verified by clicking on the padlock icon & view certificate details)
-If I disable the PAC file and go direct to the same proxy server (enable 'use a proxy server'), the revocation error does not occur.

-Versions of IE11 prior to update 11.0.41 do not display this error, when using the same PAC file and the same proxy server. Does not occur in Chrome or FireFox set to use system proxy settings, for the same sites.

Can anyone offer any advice?

I have a peculiar problem.
The other day, I took my laptop to my bro's house and tried to connect to his internet, I connected successfully but there was no internet. (Prior to this my internet was working fine on my home network). I did some troubleshooting and it was due to my firewall which is controlled by mcafee. I brushed it off thinking "Oh, its a foreign network, let me not stress it".

I returned home and reconnected my laptop to my wireless connection and the same thing happened, I was connected to the network, my signal was 5 bars, but I had no internet connection. Thats when i decided to do a little research into my problem and tried disabling my firewall. Then thats when i realized it wasnt a trivial problem. Even with my firewall disabled, troubleshooting still insisted that the problem was due to my firewall blocking all outgoing connections. I checked the firewall settings and it was set to Allow all outgoing connections.

I tried to restore my system but it turns out a system file by the name of svchost.exe is not working properly, and looking into the logistics of the troubleshooting i see the name of that file again. I tried chkdsk, but to nothing happened. I know my way around a computer.. but not that much to the point of system files and their uses/functions.

Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Greetings!(I have been directed to post here from the "Am I infected?" forum. My previous thread is located here). My Windows Vista (32-bit) has been unable to update for over two months. Windows Update has tried to install the latest Definition Updates for Windows Defender, but has experienced a Code 8024402C error each time. I do not access the internet through a proxy and setting "Automatically detect (LAN) settings" in Internet Explorer did not resolve the problem. It seems I am unable to access selected websites: Firefox cannot find the servers at download.microsoft.com and www.yahoo.com, even though these sites work fine on other computers using the same home network. At times, IE also attempts to flood my screen with pop-ups pointing to a broken non-URL, most often when I re-log into Vista after waking up my computer from Sleep mode.I paste (DDS) and attach (Attach, ark) the requested logs below.Thank you for your help in advance!.DDS (Ver_2011-06-23.01) - NTFSx86 Internet Explorer: 9.0.8112.16421 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_26Run by Severan at 18:45:03 on 2011-08-19Microsoft? Hello, I have recently been having issues with my computer following a nasty WoW account hack. After my account was hacked I have been unable to use Windows Update and get a connection error or no result. I have tried to follow the Microsoft help and none of their troubleshooting has helped. I have ran AVG scans multiple times as well as MBAM and sometimes find infections but have them removed. Currently neither show any infections. Rkill also finds nor terminates anything but C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe. Today I am unable to connect to the internet using IE7 or connect to many of my online games, but can connect via Firefox. I have Hijackthis logs if requested. After reading this I realize I gave very little information... Sorry Please feel free to ask additional questions. Last week Internet Explorer 11 starting sending boxes stating "Internet Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".
At first, the message box would show up on a few websites. Today when I bring up any type of webpage, I get one or two warning boxes to close program. Windows has not notified me of a solution.
About the same time I tried to download the "free" malwarebytes program. I do not know if the two items are related, but it seems to be a strange coincidence.
I have tried rebooting the computer. checked for updates, turned off any add-ons, turned off hardware acceleration, on the Advanced tab of Internet options made sure that "use software rendering instead of GPU rendering".
None of these actions fixed the problem.
Please let me know what I need to do or not do to make this situation go away.
Thank you.

I'm having some quite weird problem with Internet Explorer.
When I'm attempting to run it,It's displaying the error message (Asking me to send the error report to Microsoft) and then closing down.
I've scanned my computer with adaware/Spybot (Search & Destroy),MS AntiSpyware & Trend Micro Pc-Cillin Internet Security 2006 (All are most updated) & no malware has been found.
Then I've tried to upgrade to IE 7 Beta 2 (The official public beta from Microsoft's website) but to no avail as well.
Upgraded just fine but when I'm attempting to run it,It's just displaying the error message in module ieframe.dll .
I've even tried to disable all the plugins through the Internet Options but that didn't helped.
Please note :
All the IE based browsers (Avant Browser,Maxthon etc....) are working just fine.
My system specs :
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2 (+ All the optional & high-priority updates from WindowsUpdate)
Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 (Internet Explorer 6 SP2 displayed the error as well)
Main security software :
MS AntiSpyware most-updated & Trend Micro Pc-Cillin Internet Security 2006 (Most updated & all the security features are enabled.)

Is there any way to fix that problem without reinstalling Windows?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Double check your settings in Control Panel under Internet Options. Select Connections, then lan settings. Un-Check Mark both boxes and apply settings, reboot, then go back to the same place and just check mark the top option. After a week of using Windows Vista, Internet Explorer stopped connecting to the internet. I use FireFox as an alternative and I have a wireless ethernet card installed. Is there a way to repair IE that works? Logged on as Administrator, I followed the instructions to disable all add-ins, closed and open IE again and under Tools/Advanced, clicking RESET just pops up the message to close all open windows and programs. I closed the sidebar, started task manager and proceeded to stop tasks when it said "Access is denied".

Starting up the DID for WV Home Premium 32-bit only presented the Install option, so I did not want to begin that.

hi, when i click to open up my internet explorer it says "internet explorer (no add ons)" and when i go to manage them they are all enabled but not all of the right add ons are there such as adobe reader.

so what im asking is how do i fix my internet so that i can run it with add ons?

and i have tried to enable them and the ones that are there to be enabled are enabled.

A:Internet Explorer Unable to enable add ons

There are numerous posts on this subject on the Internet (Google “enable add-ons”) none of which helped me.

However after much experimenting I found this solution:

Right click your IE icon and left click on “Properties”
Make sure that Target box reads:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
(This includes the “Quote” marks)

If it doesn’t then you can do a quick test by copying your original icon then amending the “Target” box as above and trying it out. If OK amend your icon and bin the copy.

I recently had a virus removed from my computer. I have Windows 7. After the virus was removed, I noticed that Internet Explorer was missing.

At the time, I didn't realize that IE 10 is embedded in Windows 7. The virus removal software must have disabled IE.

I went to the Microsoft download site and decided to download IE 11 (pre sale download). I figured that IE 11 would remove any previous version of IE and install IE 11

The download (IE 11) did not download completely !

I went to documents/downloads and double clicked on IE10-Windows 6.1-en-us.exe

That brought me to a User Account Control Box which read: Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to your computer. The box listed:

Program Name: Internet Explorer 10 / Verified Publisher: Microsoft Corporation / File Origin: Downloaded from the internet

I clicked on yes

A box came up which read: Internet Explorer did not finish installing. Setup can't continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed on your computer.

How do I restore IE 10 to my computer ?

A:Unable to view Internet Explorer

There's a couple of ways that you can try -

First go into Windows Update/Installed updates to see if it's listed.

IE10 isn't embedded in Win 7 and is acquired via Windows Update.

You can right click on it and select Uninstall - this will revert you to whichever version you had before the upgrade and after the reboot, try the download again.

A more robust approach is to go Progs & Features/Turn windows features on or off and uncheck its box, but before you do this - you must have another browser installed as you will lose all access to the Internet as you will have effectively uninstalled IE - but give the first method a go first.

Also found on Microsoft's website, one of their "FIX-IT" solutions, which was not effective.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Just some additional information, the internet explorer is actually still working.
Thanking you in advance,

I was hoping someone knowledgeable would be able to help me with a problem i am experiencing. I work in a IT department looking after a rather large enterprise environment. I have a particular user that has managed to upgrade his browser to IE11.

Whilst IE11 functions fine it is not compatible with a number or applications we use in the company, and i therefore need to get the browser back down to IE9.

I have tried all manor of things from manual uninstall, uninstall from the command line, removing IE11 security updates from the command line, i have also been logged in as local admin and domain admin and for the life of me cannot get is uninstalled, when uninstalling manually all that happens is " An error has occured. Not all of the updates were successfully installed"

When using the command line i don't get errors but equally it also doesn't uninstall the application.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

You can run IE11 in compatibility mode. Have you tried that?

Also, I don't know if what you have done already has modified the normal rollback process for Internet Explorer because it is a "feature" that is updated through Windows Update.

To rollback to a previous version, you simply unchecked IE11 on the Feature window from the Programs and Features control panel. (The features are accessed in the left pane.)

Hello everyone,

I was using Internet Explorer 8 beta version for some days. Recently I uninstalled it and installed IE 7. Now the problem is, when I click on the IE icon it doesn't show up. Neither does it run in the process. I checked the task manager. i tried uninstalling IE from windows optional component and installing again. But still the same problem. When I click on the icon the cursor shows the wait sign for approximately less than one second, then nothing happens. Could anyone please help with this.

thank you in advance.

At first I never had the little "Print" button on Internet Explorer, so I customized it, placed it there, and rebooted....and nothing. I also tried to go to File-->Print....and nothing. Any ideas?

I've messed up something to do with Internet Explorer. First of all, when I open IE all I get is a blank page. No error message or anything. I try to go to a site and the address bar stays at "http:///". I tried repairing my Windows 2000 installation and it didn't help at all. Now it's reverted back to IE5 and Outlook Express 5. So I tried to reinstall IE6 by downloading the installation file and running it. I get the error message:

Error creating process <COCUME~1\WILLIA~LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\ie6wzd.exe/S"Cocuments and Settings\William Overby\Desktop\IE6.0 Full\IE6SETUP.EXE">. Reason: The system cannot find the file specified.

Can someone help me please?????

Click on Control panel-programs and features and on left side click on Turn windows features On or off
Do you find IE 9 in the list?
If its missing ,launch command prompt as administrator and run this command
FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"
If this command fails with access denied error, try a system restore.
I dont know of any other way.

Good morning,

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 from the disk. This installed IE 8 and usually IE 9, IE10 and then IE 11 are available to upgrade to with Windows Update. This wasn't the case. IE 9 and IE 10 do not appear. Instead it provides IE 11 after a number of updates are installed.

There doesn't seem to be an option for disabling tabs in IE 11. My grandmother uses my PC and finds tabbed browsing confusing so I run IE 10 for her.

I ended up installing Firefox with a fix to browse single page style. We prefer IE explorer and was hoping someone here could assist me in downgrading IE 11 to IE 10 or a work around with a new install of Windows 7. Thanks for any thoughts or comments provided.

A:Unable to install Internet Explorer 10

Well; you should be able to find IE 10 somewhere in the microsoft download center or in their archived downloads. Im just not sure exactly what section, etc. as its been quite awhile since Ive been to that section of their site. So I would just go there and try and do a search for it and see what you can come up with.

From first topic: Link is: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/271418/infected-unable-to-use-computer/ ~ OBI know I am infected, but unsure about where I would start. Basically:My computer was completely fine, my Monday evening regular virus/spyware searches turned up 0 results. Tuesday morning I went on the internet, got a few IE popups (even though I use Firefox). Decided to do a Malwarebytes scan and got over 750 infected objects infected. Let the scan finish and was told to restart computer, restarted and the problems started. I completely lost my desktop, no icons and no toolbar; a few more restarts and I managed to get them back but nothing else worked. Every program says I don't have the rights to access it or the computer has the resources to start.I can't access the internet and any scans I can run stop in the middle and give me the 'system resources' error.I'm not using that computer at the moment, since I'm completely unable to use it.Firstly I must ask, is is necessary to save the dds.scr and rootrepeal scanners directly to the desktop, or can they be moved there after being downloaded to another location? I can't access the internet on the infected computer so I will be unable to download them if they MUST be saved to the desktop. I have already managed to run a Win32kDiag scan (attached).Thank you for any help.

A:Infected. Unable to use computer., No desktop, toolbar, unable to access internet.

I have had a problem with Internet explorer 5.5 for the last month (I'm running it on Windows 95B). Every time I attempt to download a file from a website the download box shows up and then an alert message appears saying:
"Internet Explorer cannot download (file) from (site).
Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."
I tried downloading the same files through Netscape Navigator and it works fine. So it's not my connection.
I have tried reinstalling IE, i have also downloaded the latest IE5.5 service pack but to no avail.

I did pick up a trojan named "JS.Seeker" with my virus scanner two weeks ago but I followed instructions on proper removal to restore the registry. Although problems where occuring before that.

A:(Solved) Internet Explorer 5.5 unable to download.

I logged on to AOL IM and looked at a friend's away message. She had at the bottom a link www.talkstocks.net and I clicked on it to see what it was. Well, it took me to a page saying something about adware on the computer and removing it. Anyhow, it asked me if I'd like to download something, I said No. Then, my computer just went haywire, the little green light saying the hard drive was busy kept flashing and I could hear my hard drive churning away. I did the three finger salute, control alt delete, and canceled out of everything. Then when I click on explorer to open it it says server busy! HELP PLEASE!!! I'm on a friends computer now.

I have a Siemens Gigaset SE87 wireless router (on Tiscali) and managed to get it set up (eventually!) to work with firefox.

I can't get it to work with IE or Chrome though. I can access the router itself on both, but it won't let me change settings or use the internet.

Normally I'm very happy with Firefox but BBC iPlayer insists on using IE to manage downloads, or Windows Media Player if downloaded for a portable device... which also insists on IE!

I would also like to get Chrome working (I assume it's due to the same cause) as I've heard it's pretty good.

I'm not very techy so please help!

A:Unable to use Internet Explorer or Google Chrome

This screams of a firewall configuration issue. What version and patch level of Windows are you using? Is this wired or wireless? If wireless, have you tried a wired connection?
