I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the past year I have been running 2 hard drivers.
Drive C: 60gig
Drive D: 120gig

Both drives are running Windows XP Pro.
When turing the power on my PC I get the "Pick your OS" option boot screen.
Both drives have been listed but Drive D: was the top option and Drive C: was the bottom option.

I am in the process of formatting and installing XP Pro again on both drives.
After completing, is there a way to switch the options around on the Pick your OS boot screen
so Drive C: is first choice and Drive D: will be second choice?

I thought of checking the way they are in order in the boot.ini file but this thought didn't come to me until I was sitting and waiting for Drive C: to finish formatting this morning.

Would the order in the boot.ini file be the answer to my question or is something else causing the way the OS's are listed on the boot screen?

A:OS Boot Screen Order

Hi Synthox, and Welcome to TSF.

How do you have the two HDD's configured?

Is one a 'Master' and the other a 'Slave'?

Because if you have them configured this way you will only get the 'Master' booting up.

To do this you'll need to set the jumper pin on one of them to be a 'Slave', and if you do that there wouldn't be any need [as I can see] to have two O/S's.

Post back with your thoughts.

bootable on a USB.
The supposed logon screen came up with distorted graphic before. Now having run the auto repair with the newly created USB, the supposed logon screen shows only some regular graphic pattern and the logon dialog is still nowhere to be seen. I've tried entering
username and password presuming the fields were there but not visible. The computer would just reset when I hit Enter after entering the password.

I wonder how I can start repair at the command prompt. Any help will be appreciated. I've got no image to restore with or recovery point to restore from.
Thanks a lot.

HiI have a Lenovo Ideapad U530 and the hinges stock and broke the screen, I have already ordered the screen but need to find the front cover for the hinges, but was not able to find online or find FRU number. please help me with this issue. Thanks

A:need to order lenovo u530 hinges cover or find FRU number to order online

Have you tried using parts lookup?  Choose "Mechanical Assemblies" on the left under commodity type.  Dont post your serial number here but if you put it in parts lookup you will find parts for your laptop.  I just looked up Generic u530.

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-u-series-laptops/ideapad-u5...

With that part number you can get at Lenovo Encompass store.  Please verify part numbers before buying.

The above are for the hinge.  For the hinge cover  choose "LCD parts" on the left side under commodity type.  Below is hinge cover.

The Windows Photo Viewer will not display photos in the order they are sorted by Windows Explorer.
This is not referring to the slide show feature, just the forward and back arrows.
The only order pictures can be viewed is by name despite Windows Explorer being set at view by date, ascending.
I have repaired Microsoft Live Essentials, uninstalled and reinstalled but the issue remains.
This is also not an issue with photo tags or photo names.
Windows Explorer sorts as selected but click a picture in the middle to view, click the forward arrow and instead of the next date picture being viewed, the next name picture is viewed.

A:Windows Photo Viewer; sorting order not the same as view order

Hi!

I upgraded to Windows 10 recently as well, I have the same problem and I also have a solution. However, I do not know, if it is ideal. :-)

What is obviously missing is an entry in the registry called DropTarget. This entry tells Windows Photo Viewer to display the images in the sorting order of the folder Photo Viewer got called from.

Non-solution:
I saw that at least in my registry there is a DropTarget defined in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\photoviewer.dll\shell\open\DropTarget. From the name of the key and from reading the docs this looks as if it would be applied to all calls to this program, but -if that actually is the case- for me this entry does not work. It has been there (at least) after my Windows 10 upgrade, also the "Clsid"="{FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}" seems to be fine, but it does not do the job.

Solution:
For me, this problem was present for jpg and png files, but not for bmp, dib, gif, jfif and what else can be opened with Windows Photo Viewer. To fix this, I have added the following to the Windows Registry:

Code:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\jpegfile\shell\open\DropTarget]
"Clsid"="{FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pngfile\shell\open\DropTarget]
"Clsid"="{FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}"
After you added that to the registry, rightclick a jpg file, select "Open with", choose Windows Photo Viewer and click "Always open with this ... Read more

In fact the only responses I have received thus far are emails from your staff stating that they would assist me. My last contact with Lenovo was on 16 September 2019 and that was not even any email from your staff but from ME to your staff. It has been 8 days and I have yet to receive any reply. I am not sure what kind of service Lenovo has but not only is it bad, it appears to be non-existent. I believe I have been extremely generous and patient with my time, given that my order was 49 days ago, please contact me on facebook message or reply me here. Everybody at Lenovo told me that they will contact me but I have no reply at all. I am at my wits end

A:Can order of user accounts on welcome screen be changed

Hello Vesh and welcome to the SevenForums.

Logon screen shows the user accounts in alphabetical order based on the names first given to the account when it is created. If you change the user account name later, it does no longer change the order accounts are presented. Reason is simple: even if you change the user account name later, the user account folder keeps the original name. Renaming the user subfolders in C:\Users does not change the situation.

Quote:
An example:
You create an user account called Tom. After Tom logs in to that account first time, the subfolder Tom is created in C:\Users. This folder has now subfolders Vesh, Tom and Public. Logon screen shows two accounts alphabetically, first Tom and your account Vesh next to it.

You want your account to be shown first, so you go to Control Panel > User Accounts and change Tom's user name to Z-Tom. Logically this should now move your account first on logon screen (V before Z), but it's not going to happen because even though user name Tom was changed to Z-Tom, this users subfolder in C:\Users still has the name Tom.

Changing the username in User Accounts does not change the user's subfolders name thus the account order in logon screen stays as it was when user's subfolder was created by logging in first time!

What all this means is that you have to think the logon screen account order already when creating accounts. One method is to create accounts with names like A.Vesh, B.Tom, C.Wi... Read more

A:how to change boot order (USB first) when the screen shows ...

Hi: 1. Make sure you have the USB recovery drive plugged into a USB 2 port.  It won't work from a USB 3 port. 2. Restart the PC and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the ESC key to get the options menu. 3.  Select the F9 boot options menu, and then select the USB drive from the list and hit the enter key. If that doesn't work, unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.

I have three users (all with local accounts) on my PC and some time ago I disabled the auto-login using the process described here:
Solved Help with multiple users login screen!

This worked perfectly as the users appeared in alphabetical order as follows:
UserA (with the user picture in the centre of the screen)
UserB
UserC

Recently, the order has changed to (I don't know why!):
UserB (with the user picture in the centre of the screen)
UserA
UserC

I would like to change the order back to how it was originally, as UserA is the primary user of this computer. UserA currently has to click on 'UserA' and then 'Sign In' rather than just 'Sign In'

Note: UserB is the only account that is password protected.

Does anyone have any ideas how to do this?

Many thanks

What is the list look like and how is it stored? If the items are in Word and are on separate lines and are just one word, all you have to do is block the text and select Table, Sort and follow the instructions. If the data is, say first names and last names and you want to sort by last name, then I would copy and paste the data in Excel, then Parse the last names (Use Data, Text to Columns) out into another field and then sort by that field.

hey, what is the best order, the first thing to do once i buy a new pc, 1.create a boot disc? 2. system restore 3. backup data (well i wouldn't have any data to backup when i first buy so count that one out), and last can i store backups and system restores on the same external hard drive? thanks

A:what's the best order?

If the computer comes with Windows pre-installed, then you should:

1. Create recovery disks
2. Enable virus/firewall protection (don't attempt to combine anti-virus products)
3. Create a system image and rescue (boot disk) for the image
4. Create data backups as you proceed

In that order.

System restore points? will probably be setup by default, so no need to tamper with that, although you should check it.

System restore points? are not stored externally - perhaps you are referring to system images? If so, then yes, images and backups can be stored to a single external device provided it is large enough.

I bought 1G of RAM (Kingston) and it is the correct pairing that will go with the 256Kb that shipped in a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Both Toshiba and Kingston state that with this non-parity RAM, "like size" is not critical.

I pulled the 256-stick out and put the 1G in that slot and put the 256 into what I assumed was the (2) slot. But when I back-check it on Crucial.com, it shows the smaller (256) stick in the 1 slot with the 1G in the 2 slot.

Does the order of the sticks matter? I have always heard that the larger stick should go in the (1) slot but I can not find that spoken to or confirmed on any website.

Strange - I took the 256 out of the original slot, thinking they would ship it with the stick in the (1) slot. Wrong.

I have an older Dell Optiplex 4600c i'm working on for my grandparents. Their CPU fan doesn't run at all (not even during POST/ startup), so obviously, it overheats and shuts down after 20 minutes or so.

Because Dell is awful, this model has a proprietary CPU fan, so I can't just get a new one off the rack. Before I order the replacement, then, is there anything else that could cause the fan to not spin except a bad fan or (less likely, but possible) a bad connection on the MoBo?

A:Before I order a new CPU fan...

It could be extremely dirty with dust, which is preventing the fan from running (getting started). Have you looked at the fan closely when energizing it to see if the fan's blades jump a little like it wants to start? If the blades jump like it wants to start you might be able to clean the fan and oil the bearing. Many people are successful in extending a fan's life by cleaning and oiling them. Might be worth a try...

A:Do I have everything in order?

Hello Denise,

It would the amount of physical Memory that you have left over that Vista is not using. To test this, open Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE) and click on the Performance tab. The Memory graph shows how much actual RAM is being used. Below that the Available RAM should be the same or close to the 2.12 GB (2170.88 MB).

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Once a week I use the following: Super Anti-Spyware, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster, AVG Anti-Rootkit, Zone Alarm, Avira Antivir PE Classic, CCleaner and PC On Point.Am I being overly protective? In what order should I follow for best resultsYour advice and/or suggestions would be most welcome.Edit: Moved topic to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A:Too Many? In What Order?

It depends on your internet habits. I expect you run IE. I think you need to make that assesment on your own. Do you find stuff weekly, that needs to be removed.
I'm not gonna tell you what I do, because I think I'd be banned from the site.
Have you tried firefox instead of Internet explorer. It is very easy to setup and offers far better protection.
In a week get back to me and tell what kind of protection then.

Zonealarm is that an anti-virus version.
Your software firewall needs to run 24/7.

Just my cents.

Hi, would like to add a 3rd monitor to my PC, I understand I need a Graphics card that can support 3 monitors, I think this is ports AGP DMI HDMI if the initials are wrong I am sorry, anyhoo I then have 3 ports to plug into, the question is..
Stay with me
I have 2 Hanns G 23" monitors and a HP 24", I would like the HP to be the centre one, in which I do most of my work, the other 2 which I hope can be left and right of centre, going with the graphics card at the moment, I have screen (1) and screen (2) it was simple setup, but I have to push my mouse to the right to get into my 2nd screen thats sits on my left, ok I could place this screen on my right, it's not the point, when I get the 3rd screen will I have the flexibility to make the centre screen i.e the one that will hold my icons etc number 1 screen, then in a perfect world push the mouse to the right and I am in the RH screen, or push the mouse to the left (from centre screen) and I am in the LH screen

I think this might tax the best of you all, a huge thanx in advance for your time.
Kind Regards
Gary

A:3 screens but in an order

The Short of it...Yes you can. With an ATI GPU, now AMD, you can do exactly that. Have a look at these videos. There is one video that shows how to set up 3 monitors and in various orders with in the control panel of the GPU.

Hello to all!

I would like some help... When I download a file, a picture etc., I want the downloaded file to be placed at the end of all files in the folder! Not in "front", or at random (see pic below).

How can I accomplish this? (In WindowsXP, files - by default - were placed at the "right place" of the last one, in a folder).

Thanks in advance.

A:Sort order

Right click in the folder, go to View. If auto arrange is on, turn it off, if it's off, turn it on. Hopefully it will give you the opposite effect of what your getting now.

Hi everybody,

I want to split my existing Windows partition into three partitions:

1. Windows system + apps

2. Personal data

3. Swap file

My question is, is that the best order for them? Or should I keep the swapfile partition next to the system partition?

I've heard some people say the swap partition should go on the outside of the disk, because it's the part that turns the fastest (so it has faster reads/writes). Or is that an urban legend?

Thanks, Ander

In other words I wan't it to display the same sorting as the finder in mac osx

Thanks

A:Alphabetically order

You can't, without a 3rd party program/add-on.

This one has me stumped...

I have a workstation running XP Pro in a domain environment, and it will not boot from the hard drive by default. On the screen, it states that if I want to boot from the hard drive, I need to press H. IF I don't, it tries to boot from the network. I've gone into the BIOS and checked the boot order and it's fine; Legacy floppy, then ATAPI CD, then HDD. I'm stumped.

I need this workstation to boot directly from the machine and NOT from the network. What setting do I need to change and where? Thanks!

That's right, I have a dsl problem... I'm not quite sure what is wrong, but go ahead and read my problem. Maybe you could make a very happy Nashmeister.

1) I use swbell dsl, have windows xp, on a compaq laptop (Evo N600c)
2) At school, I use a breezenet card for wireless
3) I have always been able to use kazaa and moh online just fine

Now, as of late, something has gone wrong.

1) I can not get onto kazaa, it just says connecting, never changes

2) I can not get onto Medal of Honor online. It freezes for a few seconds, then no servers show up

3) On Red Alert 2, my pin was 1k the whole time. It was never like this before.

Edit: I have tried turning my firewall on and off. No dice...

Any help would be appreciated.

I put some payment list on Excel with Due dates next to them. How can I put them in order, the closest date will be on the top? Then second closest and so forth?

I also have another question. I can't open link pages that come along with emails to my Microsoft Outlook. What could be the problem? I hate this SP2 thing. I really would like to uninstall it.

Thank you...

A:Excel, in order!!!

Hi osm079

To keep the data on the same lines when you sort, click the upper left block of the excel sheet location shown in Red in my diagram.
[*][A][C][D]
[1]
[2]
[3]
[4]

This will highlight everything on the spreadsheet.
On the Toolbar
Data>Sort
a window will pop up with sort actions for you to choose,
click the dropdown arrow in the first field to choose what column you want to sort by then click on Ascending sorts A to Z (first to last) or Descending, sorts Z to A (last to first).

If you use the Sort Ascending or Sort Descending buttons on the Toolbar, (with the entire page selected) it will sort column A (simple sort).
If you use this method, you would want your Due Date in column A.

You can also create a practice spreadsheet by holding the ctrl button, left clicking on the Sheet tab at the bottom, drag it over to the right of the other sheet tabs and release. Name the Sheet tab Practice.

Then practice sorting away without worrying about losing your data's format.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask!

Alright, this may sound like a dumb question with a very simple solution, but I cant seem to find it, and its driving me nuts. I have windows XP professional installed on my computer. One day, everything just decided it wanted to be organized in alphabetical order. I dont ever remember changing any option to cause this. Everything in every folder is organized alphabetically, and so is the start menu. After I move things into the order i like, they are back to alphabetical order after any time i reboot the computer. I've looked everywhere for an option checked where i may have caused this, but i cant seem to find it. I've even scanned for spyware adware, everything. Can someone please help me out? thanks.

A:Alphabetical Order

Try this. In Windows Explorer, select a folder and organize it in whatever order you want (date, size, etc.). Then click on Tools, Folder Options, View, and then click Apply to All Folders. See if that works.
