x230t, upgraded to msata, trying to get second hdd to work

Q: x230t, upgraded to msata, trying to get second hdd to work

I have been trying to upgrade WIndows 10 Pro on my x230T to the Fall Creators update (1703 or 1709). But each time it gets to 27%, it does its first reboot and then crashes and rolls back the installation. Microsoft support spent a bunch of time on it, and they couldn't get it to work. They pointed me to the Lenovo Support page where it wasn't mentioned in the list of tested machines.Has anyone with an X230T get this update installed?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello and welcome,

1st: your subject and content don't seem to match. Do you in fact have multiple drives installed? Which one holds the OS you're trying to update?

2nd: are you trying to do the update via Windows Update? Sometimes downloading the full installer and running setup from that - or even creating bootable media and running that - can get around WU failures.

Sorry I can't address x230t specifics.

Well, since there are a lot of gripes with people's machines I thought I would post something a little bit more positive. I recently acquired an X230T with equipped with the i7, 4GB of RAM, 320GB Hard Drive, Multitouch Screen (2x2), Bluetooth 4.0, Fingerprint Reader and Webcam, Backlit Keyboard. It was my original plan to upgrade my X230T to 16GB of RAM ($1,060 markup if you order it with the unit!) and have an SSD boot drive using the mSata port (they don't even have that option on the configurator) and having the original HDD as a media/documents drive. I ended up paying $120 for the 16GB of RAM (Corsair Vengeance DDR3 PC3 12800) and $140 for a 120GB OCZ Nocti mSata Sata II SSD (clearly a much less expensive option and more bang for my buck) I just got the new parts and finally got around to imaging the mSata SSD by using the cdrivebackup.wim (from the Q: drive) and using the factory install on the 320GB HDD to image the SSD using a utility called Imagex.exe (Microsoft). So now I can make a factory fresh install without having to use Lenovo's Rescue and Recovery or having to use up any space on the SSD for the S: and Q: drives. Finally got everything installed and the boot time has dropped dramatically. I used the fingerprint logon from a cold boot on the HDD and that took around 1 to 2 minutes (all applications I have installed and whatnot). With the SSD, dropped to less than 35 seconds (If that, even). Again, same configuration as I had with the HDD.&n... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron 5720. When I have Windows 10 installed on internal hard drive in primary slot,
wifi works fine.
I need to have multiple OS. So I add a mSATA 128 GB, an SATA SSD on HDD primary slot, and an SATA SSD  on DVD slot. Now I have Windows 10 installed on mSATA drive, Linux installed on primary slot, and another Linux installation on DVD slot SSD.
Now I have a problem with Windows 10 installed on mSATA SSD. The wi-fi does not work, although the gigabit network interface works fine. I see wi-fi card is recognized in Windows 10 device manager, and function properly. But it shows wi-fi tuned off. Even I go to control panel to turn on wi-fi, it won't actually turn on, and eventually shows wi-fi turned off.
I also notice that in Linux, I can not turn on wi-fi either. When there was no mSATA card, and no SSD drive in DVD slot, I had Linux installed on promary slot SSD, the wi-fi was working also.
So I think there may be a hardware conflict somewhere when I have a mSATA, a primary SSD, and a 2nd SSD in DVD slot.

My Dell XPS 8500 has an MSATA slot in which I have a 64 gb msata board which acts as the system and boot drive. I have just purchased a 128 gb msata board I want to install in place of the 64gb unit. My system also has a 1 tb main hard drive.
I have tried a system restore DVD and Back/Restore, neither has worked at all. All I want to do is find a way to do a complete copy of the 64gb msata now installed and then replace it with the 128gb unit and copy over all of the data that was on the 64gb one. This way all I have done will be to have more storage available on my system drive, the msata drive.

Any help much appreciated.

thanks,

Hi and welcome to the SevenForums!

One solution I can suggest to this is to use imaging software to create an image of your current Windows installation. Acronis True Image is one of the popular ones on here, but there are other programs that can do it such as Macrium Reflect.

I'll be getting a new laptop soon and I'm wondering what the differences are between these two SSDs. I'll probably be putting them in a Sager NP9377 from xoticpc.com. Both SSDs cost the same price but the Samsung 850 EVO has 120 GB vs Micron M600's 128 GB (both for $100) or Samsung 850 EVO with 250 GB vs Micron M600 with 256 GB (both for $160). I know it's a small difference but this is my first experience with an SSD so I just want to make sure I make the right decision. I'll be putting the OS on the SSD so what capacity do you recommend? Thank you.

Hello everyone,
A few weeks ago, my Dell 14z 5423 was completely dead, did not turn on and did not even turn on a led, even when connecting the charger.
I sent it to technical support in my country (Argentina) and they gave with the fault, the ssd disk used as cache with the ISRT system was dead. They replaced it but they made the mistake of installing Windows directly on that disk instead of using it for the ISRT cache, so when I reinstalled my disk (HDD) where my windows installation was and my files, I found 2 installations of Windows. I cleaned the SSD disk to keep my setup and previous configurations from the other disk (I find it now from My Computer) and was investigating how to re-run the ISRT. I followed this tutorial: en.community.dell.com/.../19511993
But after installing the ISRT driver on the SSD disk and returning to Windows, the following appears in the Intel RST app (same as when cleaning the disk):
I would greatly appreciate a hand since without this fast storage system, the performance of the PC is lousy and I use it daily to work.
Thank you very much in advance.

A:Dell 14z 5423 Broken and Replaced mSATA SSD - Can not Make Work ISRT

If you have gone through that reference then you know where in the Intel Utility you turn on Acceleration.  If your system is set to SATA as RAID, you should be able to enable it in that utility.
If you cannot, what is the Acceleration page telling you regarding the small SSD?  Do you see the option to reconfigure the small SSD, if necessary?
We can assume, after cleaning the small SSD, that you can boot normally into Windows?

Hey there,

i upgraded to seven and the mic hasn't worked ever since....

common sense would tell me it's a driver i need to install but i'm not savy in the field and i can't find such thing. any ideas? thanks in advance.

A:Upgraded to Seven now mic doesn't work

microphones don't generally need drivers.

maybe you just need to turn it on and give it a boost.

control panel >> hardware and sound >> manage audio devices >> recording tab >> click on microphone >> properties >> levels >> crank it up >> maybe there's a custom tab too with a boost box to tick.

also make sure the mic is set to be the default device if you want to record from it.

After my upgrade to Windows 10 on my HP Pavilion dv6t-6c00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook, the Wifi is no longer working ... in the sense that it does not find my Wifi network. I believe, that technically, the dv6t is not supported by HP for Windows 10 but everything thing else seems to work albeit a bit differently at times.  For instance, the WiFi but no longer toggles the WiFi on/off but now turns Airplane mode on/off. In my office I am most always on my wired network so this is not an issue but certainly will be when I am not in the office. The driver is at the latest available (for Windows 7) from HP so I'm not sure this is a driver issue or something else. Any ideas or has anyone else had this issue on a dv6t? I should also mention that Bluetooth no longer works either ... service will not start.

A:Upgraded my DV6 to Windows 10 and now the WiFi does not work

TBiggi1 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I had EXACTLY the same problem on my DV6 laptop -- after I upgraded it to Win10.  Despite pushing the WiFi key time after time, it would always stay orange and the WiFi never worked. But ... to fix this, I had to do the "upgrade" again -- and do two things very differently ... 1: Prepare for clean-install:If, after the upgrade, your PC is only partially functioning, that means that the Upgrade did not go well and stuff is still there from the prior OS corrupting the functionality of Win10. You MIGHT be able to fix this by doing a clean-install of Win10. Problem is that a clean-install often does not recognize the prior activation, even though it should. So, you need to do 2( below BEFORE you do the clean-install: 2) Create a file needed to reactivate Win10 after the clean-install BEFORE you do the upgrade, follow these instructions from the community Win10 forums about creating a genuineticket.xml file: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/23354-clean-install-windows-10-directly-without-having-upgrade-fi... You will need this later to activate your Win10 pc after the clean-install. NOTE: I did the clean-install, and even though the product-key was SUPPOSED to work to activate Win10, it did not. And, calls to MS about this were wastes of time -- since the MS idiots said I could not activate Win10 with a Win7 product key!! What DID work was using the genuineticket ap... Read more

Hi all

At the weekend I purchased (via online download from Microsoft website) Windows Vista Home Premium SP1.

My son built me a media PC using a motherboard and processor he already had. I purchased brand new SATA hard drives (4 x 1 terrabyte).

He built the PC, loaded vista and it all worked beautifully, except we couldn't get the media player to display properly. We decided that as we had already invested a fair bit into this system we would buy a new motherboard which included onboard graphics that could display HDMI through our new TV. Motherboard and new ram arrived today and all duly installed. It all boots up but gets to the 'windows won't start' screen - and lists the options choose safe mode etc., and it seems to load windows drivers (lists all of them on the screen) and then just goes round in circles and does the whole thing again.

I tried to do a repair your computer, but that doesn't work either.

My other son tells me he thinks that as it is considered a new pc (motherboard change means most parts are onboard and therefore Vista thinks it's a whole new PC) I will have to do a complete reinstall - is this the case?

One other to note is that we have tried using both VGA and HDMI display outputs, but the problem remains the same with both.

Anyway - this is my setup

Motherboard - Asus P5Q-EM
Ram 4GB
Hard Drives - 4 x 1 TB
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (full version, not upgrade or OEM)
Display screen is a Toshiba 40ZF355DB

Hi
So about a week ago I made the decision to update to windows 10, little did I know it was going to crash my laptop. what happens is my screen won't stop flashing. The icons on my screen appear and disappear over and over and over again. It never stops. It never stayz long enough for me to click on anything.

My question is, is there anything I can manually do, that won't erase the entirety of my hard drive, to either restore it back to windows 7 or just make windows 10 work?

I'd really love some advice, I honestly don't want to pay to have it checked out. (I'm a poor college student)

Hi, hope I've put enough specs in profile for you to help. I have a Compaq Presario 6735s I bought around 2008. CPU quite slow but graphics card not bad so made decision to upgrade. Looked up the laptop manual here to find compatible CPUs for motherboard, socket type etc. Went through 3 different (*****ic) buys before I found one that actually fitted.
Now with everything reassembled, screen will flash up once upon powering on, then nothing. All usual lights come on, even my wireless connects, makes usual start up noises, fan, dvd drive etc ....
Proceeded to take everything apart again, re-connected everything I tampered with. Even RAM, which I didn't have to remove before.
Still same reaction starting up.

Really frustrated with myself as thought this would be the right one. Could honestly cry, haha.

I read the tutorial on here called 'No POST' to no avail either. I really hope it can come back from this.
One last thing I can think of (before pulling new CPU out) is upgrading BIOS to support new CPU but with no screen I am stuck.

Can someone please give me a little direction?

Previously I had 2.5GB of RAM, however having undertaken a crucial scan it said I can now have 4GB of RAM. So, I ordered a new 2GB and replaced the 512MB stick.

Upon booting up for the first time and hit F1 to acknowledge that the RAM has been changed it loaded to the log in screen however I could see loads of white horizontal lines across the screen. I was able to login and the desktop appeared fine.

I then noticed that the audio was coming up saying it cannot be found. It had a red cross through the symbol in the taskbar.

I restarted on numerous occassions to no avail.

I took the new 2GB stick out and put the 512MB back in and all loaded without any problems.

Any ideas?

Did you remove the nVidia software and drivers first? You need to do that with the 8800GTS still installed, then shut down your computer, and install the new GPU, then reboot and download the new drivers for your card for amd.com and install them.

I presume you also have the power connectors fitted to the new GPU when running it as well?

Is there a way to get Windows Update working again?

A:Upgraded To Z170 Mobo, Now Windows Update Doesn't Work?

There are no issues with usb 3.0, just use usb 2.0 ports for the keyboard and mouse and install with a dvd, no issues at all.

There are millions of threads here about windows update, we can`t keep answering every single question about them

Just get windows update going and walk away, don`t let your PC go to sleep and in a week or 2 the updates will show up

But seriously, just let it run overnight and all will be fine in the morning.

Microsoft has fired all the Windows 7 update personal and are down to 1 windows 7 update server and it`s running Windows ME

I updated my hard drive last night and went from a 60 gig hard drive to a 320. I reinstalled windows xp no problem, and proceeded to reinstall all my drivers (first of course was my graphics and wireless card). However, as I was going through the drivers, my audio refused to install.

The site I have been getting all my drivers from is http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&lang=en&product=3177437

The only difference in operating system is that my 60 gig is Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 and this is Service Pack 3.

My sound card still works fine as since I have changed hard drives I have swapped them out and gone back to my 60 gig when I initially had issues with trying to connect to the internet and had to download the driver onto my external hard drive so I could get online with this one.

The only difference in hard drives is the size, they are both made by the same company.

Any help to getting my audio to work would be MUCH appreciated.

Also, this being an HP laptop with the touch sensitive music controls and quickplay, any idea on getting my quickplay working again would be apprecaited as well, just as a side quest for now =)

Hi, I'm new here! My first time! LOL

I just upgraded the BIOS on my Intel D845GVSR mobo with supposedly the latest drivers. I used the Windows express install feature, as my machine doesn't have a floppy, just CD, DVD, card readers, and USB. After the install, (and I didn't touch my computer while it was doing this process), I noticed my USB mouse not working, and none of my card readers worked eithter.

So, I called Long-distance to Intel tech support and went through the whole thing. They told me to download the *.bio file for the mobo so I can restore my BIOS... but I couldn't find the file for the right board, so I called them back, on a cell phone this time, and this time was told that the above mentioned might not work, and to remove the battery from the system, wait 20 mins, replace the battery and reboot, and this would reset the CMOS...well, I did that, and still no USB. I called tech support back, and they basically put me through the same procedure again....

I'm very frustrated beyond description. What good is a comp if I don't have the USB ports to run printers, etc? I think my system is screwed! Thanks alot INTEL.

There HAS to be a way to fix this!

Hello all,I have a Windows 7 Pro, 7459-1P0 Thinkpad X200. Yes, she's getting on a bit but she's in great condition and I have a Crucial SSD in here to speed things up. Recently I updated to Windows 10 Pro and *nearly* everything seems okay (though I can't seem to find the ThinkVantage software any more - which offered available updates and showed graphics for Volume Up/Down/Mute etc, disabled now maybe?). I can't get the Integrated Camera to work at all, or the physical Mute button at the top of the keyboard (the Volume Up/Down buttons work). The Camera shows in Device Manager under Imaging Devices, but programs such as Skype can't find it. It was working before with previous versions of Windows. See below. Thanks for any replies

I have an X1 carbon 6th with Dolby Vision HDR screen and this function worked well until I upgraded the operation system to 1803 several days before. I have tried uninstalling the monitor driver, intel display driver and Lenovo SIP driver completely and then reinstalling them all with the newest version downloaded from the official site, now I can see the ChromaTune menu by right-click my mouse on the desktop but whatever I choose there is nothing changed. How can I fix this problem? I saw an old thread talking about this suggesting re-installing the SIP driver and the problem would be solved but definitily it doesn't work. Is there anything I am wrong or should I just wait for another update in future?

Hi, on hindsight I should have asked this question at this forum first. But I was tired from doing all the researching and bit on an old x230 convertible laptop off ebay that supposedly has core i7 3520M, 4gb of ram, and 160gb ssd. It has been upgraded to windows 10. It has not arrived yet. At around $200, it seemed to me like a steal for the specs. I do think that these specs were user-upgraded and not factory-made so I cannot speak for the quality.I read rave reviews about this device, however, most were from several years ago. I never owed a device with this specs or a touchscreen laptop for that matter so I do not really know what to expect.I guess I will start out to see if anyone still second this as a solid convertible laptop in today's standard. Does windows 10 run well on it? Seem like a lot of people run into problems when upgrading to windows 10? Is there anything special about the touchscreen or is it just obsolete technology nowadays? I mean the most resource intensive thing I will do on this laptop is just playing some online flash games so I think it is way less than what it is capable of. I was just looking for a laptop that is upgradable and can stay relevant for a long time so did I make the right call? Any feedbacks are appreciated!

Hello people of the Lenovo forums. A friend of mine just gave me his Lenovo x230t, it looks like he tried formating it and handing it over to me but he didn't install all the drivers or what not. The laptop itself is from France (french keyboard) and I think when he installed the windows it was in french as well, I changed the setting and made it so everything is in english but when I installed the Lenovo System Update app it installed it in french and I cannot change it, same goes for Realtek. I went through this websites find and recommed me stuff to install, and it did install all the intel drivers and a bios update also I myself installed the driver that activates the tablet keys (screen rotate, task manager). My question is should I just clean install all over again? I got the windows key here so should I just reinstall the whole PC? its new so I got nothing important on it. If so, how should I go about it? I don't have the windows disk or any other driver disk. Another issue is that I cannot use my fingers on the touch screen, it only works with the stylus. I've seen people online scrolling through web pages and PDF using their fingers in touch, also using some other cool functions like opening all the curret apps in a scroll by pressing 4 fingers against the screen. Do I need to install a certain driver to do it? if so where? Sorry for writing so much and thank you for taking the time and reading it.I apologize if I broke an... A:Some help with an x230t windows 10

Hello and welcome,

I'd be inclined to do a clean install, followed by System Update.  Since Win 10 has already been activated on that machine you likely won't need the key.

You can download Win 10 direct from Microsoft.  I haven't looked at the MS tool lately and don't know if the download varies by version (Home, Pro, ...) but if it does pick the one that matches your key.

My X230 table fell on it side while a wireless mouse receiver was installed and damaged the usb port and knocked the chip behind  it out of place on the main board, I have attached a picture. Does anyone have a picture of the chip or know the name? I am trying to locate it to fix my machine.

Brief history: Vertical artifacts on LCD. Checked if cables are seated behind LCD but forgot battery in. Backlight no longer worked. I've opened up and tested all the fuses I could see for continuity. The only blown one I could find was F1. Does anyone know its value or typical LED backlight fuse ratings? I would rather replace it than short it. The board is an 04Y2040 i7-3520M Tested fuses and status: (?=no continuity)(?=fuse not found)(?=continuity)F1 ?F2 ?F3 ?F4 ?F5 ?F6 ?F7 ?F11 ?F12 ?F13 ?F14 ?F15 ?F16 ?F17 ?F18 ?F19 ?F20 ?F21 ?F22 ?F23 ?
