Official Windows 8 Wish List

Q: Official Windows 8 Wish List

For the love of all things holy please sticky this so it doesn't get lost and someone creates a new one.

This thread is for use as a central repository of everything we wish is fixed or added to Windows 8.

I'll start:

1. Pure Desktop Mode. People have been wishing for a way to login directly to desktop with a Windows 7-style start menu. I'm pretty sure if Microsoft ever does this it will only be an option in 8 Pro or 8 Enterprise.

2. An improved method of using multiple displays. Having an application quit or something because that window lost focus doesn't cut it for us.

3. Have a Metro-style "Notifications Tray". it could be a subsection of the Charms menu, which would allow you to access currently running background applications (Like Skype or something)

4. Metro system applications. I'd like to me able to use Metro Snap in order to place the calculator beside whatever I'm working on, and have a Metro-style task manager where the Start tile shows usful information (like processor activity, RAM and HDD usage, etc)

Preferred Solution: Official Windows 8 Wish List

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Official Windows 8 Wish List

A "CLICK AND STICK" solution for the classic desktop, another words I want to during the initial set up of the OS to be able to select "classic desktop" as the default boot setting, so that EVERYTIME I
start the PC up it only comes up with the classic desktop, nothing else.

If Win 8 does NOT have this CRITICAL option, and the OS will only boot up to METRO

I WILL NOT be purchasing Windows 8. Period.

My next OS will be Ubuntu or Linux. I can promise MS that millions of other users will be opting for the same.

Hello all. My laptop used work perfectly until the day I decided to remove all the extra stuff by doing a clean install of Windows 10.  I predownloaded all the drivers I would need and then did the clean installation.  Now I have an issue with my wifi.  It randomly drops connection to wifi and is slow to start working again.  After coming out of sleep it does not automatically reconnect to the ap and I have to trigger it manually.  Separately (i think) when coming out of sleep, the login screen does not respond to the keyboard and I am forced to use the mousepad to click or a touchscreen swipe to get to the password field. What I'm seeking is an official list of drivers that are required for a clean windows 10 install on a thinkpad yoga series 20CD.  If order of installation is critical, please give this also.  I believe I downloaded everything available from the support page but just want to be sure.  Sometimes not all drivers are available when filtering by OS "Windows 10".   Thanks in advance. Laptop specs are:512gb ssdmemory card slot2.4/5 n/ac wireless 7260ac w/bluetooth

Hi all,

I brought my PC to someone for maintenance and after a few months of PC working correctly, I started to receive the message that my Windows is not genuine.

I want to get an official copy of windows 10. Can I just buy one from a retailer and install it and everything should be fine or is there something else?

On the activation I have this warning saying that windows cannot be activated because they can't connect to my organization's activation server... but i don't understand what server and what organization they talk about, I am a private one and I intend to activate a licence as a private.

any input very welcome thanks!

Can anyone tell me ,what is the original size of x86 ?

So wanted to confirm....
Note:- I cannot download from MS site due to some reasons

I have the official downloaded and saved as 2.35GB. But it may still be 2.36 before fully downloaded.

Exactly what happens when you say you can't download from MS? Can you describe what it does or what errors you see if any?

Hey guys!

I'm here because my new Install does not have good Graphics. I used Driver Magician to transfer all the drivers, so all are from the Official Toshiba Install on the old HDD. I really don't understand this and it happened before. Before, I installed the W7 Officail iso along side of the Toshiba OEM Install, dual boot W7 with W7 to get some practice, and again the Vanilla install had bad graphics, what do I do? I don't want all that Bloatware from Toshiba, and removing it is a lot of work and risky, please don't make me go back lol.

I did not do any Updates yet, thought it would be best to get drivers installed first, would this be correct?

I already downloaded some updates to a USB that speed things up for new installs of Windows 7 so don't need that help now. The only issue I can see is that Realtek RTL8187SE Wireless LAN PCIE Network Adapter, but surely have some kind of Graphics Driver Problem? As you can see, there are also some Toshiba Drivers that might not have been needed, and perhaps causing some problems but I am clueless.

Thanks, Nasty7

I had to re-install my windows 7 installation today. I have the original Microsoft Backup DVD & it worked fine. Then I got to the Product key part of the installation.
I still cant find my key, so I just pressed escape when I got to the part where you should type in your product key ( its around somewhere & I 'll find it or if necessary buy a new key ).

The installation then continued without any problem & has installed a couple of updates since, with the attendant re-boots. Its all running normally.

Should I expect to be asked to input the product key at any stage or am I not being asked because its an 'official' Microsoft backup DVD ?

A:Using official backup windows 7 dvd

You will be asked to input the product key at some stage.

The laptop comes with windows 8.1 installed from factory, but I would I'm trying to downgrade the OS, can I get an official free copy of the Windows 7 OS and key from toshiba?

A:Satellite P50-B-10Z and Official Windows 7

As far as I know you cannot get it from Toshiba for free.
You machine is designed for Win8.1 and you got it with your machine. It could be that your machine is supported for Win7 64bit and Toshiba offers all necessary drivers, tools and utilities but you must install own OS version and pay for the licence.

When you buy new notebook the price includes hardware, OS and one valid licence for preinstalled OS version.

Before you do anything visit Toshiba download page and check if Toshiba supports Win7 for this machine and don't forget to create recovery media (DVD or USB) that you can use for original recovery image. After own OS version you will not be able to install it from HDD so it is very important to have this bootable recovery media.

Hello. Sorry to jump on the bandwagon late and all. Just have one simple question:

I have Windows 8 Pro RTM build 9200. I just wanted to check if this was the latest version and/or the same as the version that was shipped in stores in the US on Oct.26? Will I receive all the latest Windows updates? I'm fully activated with a serial.

Thanks guys!

A:Windows 8 Pro RTM 9200, Official / Final?

I'm confused. how would you not know if it was final or not? Where did you get it? If you got it from a legitimate source, it will be the final version and there is no need for such a question.

Yes, the final version is build 9200, as about a million other people have asked, and been answered. I hope we're not going to keep getting people asking this over and over.

The Official Magazine is a showcase of the latest devices, apps and games which combine to make Windows 8 the best operating system for real life.

Same publisher also does the iPad mag, I believe.

I say Windows RT but it's the Metro app and any version of Windows 8.1 can run the Metro app. I was wondering if anyone was experiencing these same problems.

Many times, I tap on "comment" but it won't do anything or open the comment window. I have
to "refresh" by clicking one of my groups (thereby changing the screen) and then go back to where
I was before and then it will let me click on "comment" and work.

Many times when I am using the on screen keyboard, once I am done typing and the keyboard closes,
the space at the bottom of the screen stays black and Facebook remains "up in the air". I have to grab
and drag down the window to get the Facebook app down where it belongs.

Many times where it tells you in the upper right corner how many new notifications you have, typically it is red with the number of notifications. Sometimes it is just greyed out and sometimes it just has the number of new notifications with the number in white but with the globe still faded out.

Hey mate,

You got the free app by facebook, right? Uninstall it and install it again. From what I can tell, I've not heard a complaint similar to your own. Most complaints are about crashing or log-off problems.

Dear SevenForums,

Let me explain me question. Soon I am gonna fix a lot off computers. Some will have XP older machines. Some of them will have windows vista,7 or 8. Is there a location where I can download all official windows versions? So when a customer buys a license key I can install it by a boot iso on the go.

Some people for example might not have any windows discs any more so its importent for me to carry all the window versions on the go with me and do not like to download any torrents. Only official isos.

If someone could help me with that would by nice.

I have been using Windows 7 at work now for a few weeks now and am mightly impressed. So impressed in fact I am considering upgrading my home PC to 7100 RC.

However, as I am in the middle of a project on my home PC, I am reluctant to make the move.

So I am holding off until the official release date so I can buy my own copy.

The jump from ...

... Win3x to Win9x was big
... Win9x to Win2K was also significant
... WinXP to Vista was OK
... Vista to Win7 will be brilliant.

I honestly can't wait, but will just so I only have to re-install all my programs once.

I recently raised specific questions with my Member of the UK Parliament concerning Microsoft downloading Windows 10 files and updates for windows 8.1, which didn't reveal their true nature, onto my computer without my consent.

Below is the reply my MP received from the CEO )UK) of Microsoft.

25 November 2015
Dear (Member of Parliament)
Thank you for your letter of 28 October, forwarding the concerns of your constituent, Willington, on the subject of Windows 10. I have addressed Willington's questions below. Should you have any further enquiries, I would of course be happy to discuss them with you.

Downloads of Windows 10
Willington raises a question about consent to downloads of Windows 10. To be clear, Windows 10 update installation files were only downloaded to the computers of users who have taken an affirmative action. Specifically, all users who received the Windows 10 update fit within one of the categories below:
 Users who actively chose to receive all recommended updates. When installing earlier versions of Windows (including Windows 7 and 8.1 Update), Windows users were asked to choose how they wanted to set up the Windows Update service; users could choose to install all ?recommended updates?, or to be prompted before downloading and/or installing each individual recommended update. Users could then also change their Windows Update preferences after their initial installation of Windows. A number of users who actively chose to... Read more

A:Windows 8.1 'Spying and downloading' Official response.

There is no spying in Windows 8 or Windows 10. The only spying that you have to worry about, is your government in the UK watching for those who may be collaborating or helping ISIS.

Microsoft only collects information on what motherboard and hardware, any third party programs that have issues with Windows or collecting information on what programs & apps that you never use, along with those that you use all of the time.

If you do not want Microsoft knowing your personal profile information, then turn off that setting and never use the computer.

I am not able to locate my DVD of Windows 7 Ultimate N x64 (English), so have resorted to looking for the ISO online. I have the official CDKEY.

Based on my search online so far, Microsoft seems to have made available the ISO of various versions of Windows for people to download and install with their authentic CDKEY. The version I am looking for is not one of them. The Professional N x64 version is available but I doubt that my CDKEY will work with it. Also I tweeted this question to @MicrosoftHelps and all they told me was to call Microsoft where I am located and to tweet back how it goes. Suffice to say I was very disappointed with such pathetic customer service, considering their XBOX support is really awesome!

Any ideas on where I can find the ISO file? Thanks in advance everyone.

You could just use this http://code.kliu.org/misc/winisoutil...al_utility.zip

From here, winisoutils - Windows ISO Disc Image Utilities

On that Pro version to unlock all versions on the ISO.

Just point it to your ISO and it will let you know it's removed, then you'll just get a window to choose what version you want to install during the install process.

Hi Guys!

Can anyone tell me if the Windows 8 Pro FULL retail double disk version has a cardboard, or plastic credit card sized product key card?
Should the product code be physically printed on the white key card itself, or should it be attached to the card with a sticker of some kind?
If it is attached to the card with a sticker, what colour should the sticker be?

I bought a second hand retail version of Windows 8 Pro off ebay which was advertised as new, but when i opened it I cant see any (credit card sized) product key card that looks like the ones I've seen in all the other un-boxings on Youtube.
Instead I received an official box, which looks to have x2 official DVD's in white sleeves marked 32 & 64, and there's a welcome card which has an orange product key stuck on it, just above the blue welcome symbol.

The above sticker that i received is poorly printed, a bit blurry, poorly cut and is a different shade to my original official clean cut Microsoft one which I got when I purchased my old Windows 7 Pro version new.

Hey all,

Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up on the official Microsoft Connect Windows 7 RC drop.

Apparently, everyone on the official beta will be able to obtain the RC build from Microsoft Connect on Thursday 30th April, along with the MSDN/Technet official drop.

It's a little sad really, I personally feel that the official testers should have gotten it a little earlier, i.e. Monday 27th April, but alas, it was not meant to be.

Anyway, for those that were interested, that's when it will drop.

A while back I installed Microsoft's FixIt for CVE-2013-3893 on my computers to protect against an active zero day exploit. Microsoft billed it as a temporary fix until they released the official solution through Windows Update, which they did. My question is, for this issue specifically, and generally, when Windows Update pushes out an update does that override Microsoft's fix it? In other words do I have to go back to each computer now and uninstall the FixIt or does the official update handle that automatically? If you know the answer can you please cite a source.

A:Uninstall a MS FixIt after the official windows update is released?

It's my understanding that when a permanent update is released it will automatically detect and uninstall/disable any temporary Fixits. I can't cite any specific sources other than my own personal experiences installing Fixits in the past, then installing permanent updates on top of the Fixits will no ill effects.

I guess if you'd rather not take a chance you could go back to the Fixit website and disable it yourself.

Panoramic themes can be used on single monitor setups, but only the center part of the image will be visible.
