How do I activate Bluetooth in Windows 8?

Q: How do I activate Bluetooth in Windows 8?

I have an Envy 4-1130us ultrabook that is really nice, but I can't get my bluetooth to work. It did work for about a week, but somehow is now failing. I attempted to go into pc settings > wireless and turn the bluetooth to "on" but it is not allowing this. I have also tried using f12, but it is only activating the wi fi. FYI - I was using the bluetooth for a wireless mouse. Anything else I might try?

Preferred Solution: How do I activate Bluetooth in Windows 8?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I see that you're having an issue activating the Bluetooth on your notebook. I noticed you have already done a couple of steps to try and resolve this issue. I will list a couple of steps for you to follow, let me know if this resolves your issue. 1. Press the Windows + W key.2. Type Bluetooth into the Search field.Figure 20: Searching for BluetoothClick Change Bluetooth settings from the list of results.Click the box next to Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area , and then click Apply .Figure 21: Showing the Bluetooth icon in the notification areaThe Bluetooth icon displays in the notification area in the lower right.Double-click the Bluetooth icon to access common tasks for Bluetooth devices.Figure 22: Bluetooth menuTips for finding a Bluetooth deviceIf Windows cannot detect the Bluetooth device, check the following items:Make sure that wireless communication is turned on (Notebook computers only) Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on and set to be discoverable on the device. When a device is set to be discoverable, it uses radio signals to broadcast its location to other Bluetooth devices and computers.A device such as a wireless mouse or a keyboard, might have a button on it that you need to push.A device such as a Bluetooth mobile phone, might have a setting in the menu that you need to select to turn on Bluetooth so the device can be discovered.NOTE:If you do not know how to set your device to be discoverable, check the information that came with your device or go to the manufacturer?s website.A device such as computer might need to have the Discovery setting turned on. To turn on Discovery in Windows 8, press the Windows + W key.Type bluetooth into the Search field.Figure 25: Searching for bluetoothClick Change Bluetooth settings from the list of results. The Bluetooth Settings window displays. In the Discovery area on the Options tab, click Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer .Figure 26: Making the Bluetooth device discoverable Also, here are a couple of tips you can consider using while trying to activate the bluetooth. Make sure the device is turned on, is not low on battery power, and is not in sleep mode.Make sure the device is within wireless range of your computer, usually within six to nine feet. If you are not sure if the device is in range, move it closer to your computer, or put the device and computer in the same room.Make sure there are no other devices interfering with the wireless device, such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, or other wireless devices. If your computer uses an external Bluetooth adapter, make sure the adapter is attached and installed, and is working correctly. If Bluetooth is integrated in your computer, especially a notebook computer, make sure the Bluetooth radio transmitter is turned on because many notebook computers have a button to turn the transmitter on and off. If you are not sure how to turn it on, check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website. If you have any more questions please let me know. THX

I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard set (logitech dinovo), that works fine on the log-in screen when i boot the computer, but once you click log in, the mouse and keyboard stop responding for 1-2 minuites. Then they come back, and are fine for the rest of the session.

Why does it take so long? Can't i just keep it in whatever mode it's in at startup so theres no delay?

Hello, I have looked at previous threads on Bluetooth but I am not any further forward.  Bluetooth does not show in Device Manager and there is no LED showing.  When I press Fn- F5 I get only two choices: Airplane mode on-off, and 802.11 Wireless radio on-off.  Clicking off just turns off the wireless and loses wifi.  No evidence of Bluetooth yet I believe this laptop shipped with Bluetooth 3 installed.  If so how do I make it appear please?  Thank you.

Recently I received a new set of wireless, bluetooth headphones as a Father's day gift. I have successfully paired the headphones to my smartphone and my laptop, Acer Aspire running Windows 8.1. I have no problems using the phones with the smartphone, but the laptop is my problem. The "Control Panel" under "Sound" shows the phones, but they are designated as "Disconnected". Nothing I do can activate the device, and no help from MS and their literature shows me nothing beyond what I've already done. Under "Devices and Printers", the phones are shown as recognized but still they don't work. I don't know if I just have not found the correct toggle to turn on the phones or if it's something else. I'd hate to return the headphones since they were a gift from the "kids", but if these cannot be useful, I have no choice. Please help!!!!

Right click the Volume icon (in the Notification Area) - Playback devices. Are the headphones listed? If so, you can probably make them the default and, hopefully, that's all it will take.

I want to play music on my mobile phone but listen the sound on my E5450 laptop, using bluetooth (not other methods)
I have paired the device with the laptop, but I see no options in Windows about what bluetooth services is Windows offering to paired devices.
The laptop is using latest Intel bluetooth driver for the device that appears in device manager with name "Intel Wireless Bluetooth", with these hardware ids:
There is a "bluetooth headset service" on windows with start type manual, I've started hoping it would allow phone to "see" the laptop as a bluetooth audio headset but no change.
I remember old Windows had a "Services" tab sheet on the bluetooth settings but on my W10 is gone.
Is this gone for good from Windows 10, or only on my laptop? Using latest released windows version.

A:How to view/enable bluetooth services (bluetooth windows service is already working) on E5450 with Windows 10?

I?m not sure where to find that info, but streaming audio from your phone to the PC would require that the PC act as an A2DP target, and to my knowledge Windows only acts as an A2DP source.

They are asking the key which I dont have it.i contacted singapore office and they asked me to scan using command prompt by giving the command as, sfc/scannowit says there is no violation..but the activation message kept popping up.and now they directed me to Bangladesh dealer as am using the laptop in dhaka.could u please help me......it says my windows will expire on 4th novemberregards

A:How do I activate windows on a Dell laptop which came with pre installed genuine windows 8.

It is possible  you have a pirated copy of Windows. Computers with a factory installed legal copy of Windows do not need to be activated. The activation code for Windows 8 is located in the system BIOS and is read automatically. You can check the code by using one of the utilities that will extract it from the BIOS. If there is a code, contact Microsoft and ask them if the code is valid.

Hi Everyone,  I just swapped out the hard drive in my ThinkPad T510 and replaced it with a zippy SSD.I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 thinking I have my Windows 7 COA (clearly visible under my battery). But I was unable to activate Windows 10. I called Microsoft and they said yes, I have a geniune copy of Windows 7 BUT that the OEM (Lenovo) was blocking the activation. I called Lenovo and they said it's a Microsoft issue. I called Lenovo again and they said I needed to pay $45 for recovery discs because my "real" Windows 7 code was secreted in a system board, and once I retrieved that, I would have to install Windows 7 on my new SSD, then upgrade to Windows 10 and the activation would take. Um, really? Isn't there an easier (and cheaper) way to accomplish this? Again, my Windows 7 COA is clearly visible under my battery but it didn't work. What am I doing wrong? And can anyone out there make it right? Thank you so much!

The background: Had a Dell XPS that took a lightning hit through the cable modem and blew out the motherboard. (Power supply, hard drive and all else were okay. Modem was cooked!) Bought a Dell (I think Dimension) that had no hard drive, but a 3.2 Ghz Intel 4 processor, assorted peripherals. I pulled the 160 GB SATA hard drive from my XPS, popped it into this one. Wouldn't boot up windows. Ran diagnostics from BIOS, everything checked out. It just kept saying something about "to protect your computer windows has shut down." And gave an error code. Anyway, I never had a reinstall disk, so I bought one. When it asked if I wanted to repair the edition of XP Pro that was already on the hard drive, I hit "R." It went through it's reinstall steps. Everything seemed to be going according to plan, up to that point. Had a hiccup or two getting it to boot to Windows from there, but now the bootup seems to be working, after a fashion. When I turn it on, it boots to the Windows welcome screen. Then I get a dialogue box that says: "This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?" At this point, I can click "No," on that dialogue box, it returns to a welcome screen, and then brings up the welcome screen with my personal settings and log-in name from the hard drive. And I get the same dialogue box again. "This copy of Windows must be activated with Mi... Read more

Hey guys n gals, my mom got a new computer few months back and it came with xp preloaded with the windows 7 cd in it(was a double bundle to upgrade if you wanted)

She really likes xp and doesn't welcome change much. So I decided to take the windows 7 cd to install on my computer but the cd key won't verify and keeps giving me the '3 days to activate' thing.

Is there any way for me to actually use windows 7 since its just wasted sitting there collecting dust, or is there some sort of key embedded on her motherboard to verify that THAT windows 7 will only work on THAT computer?

Thanks in advance.

Using an AMD Athlon Dual Core x64 4200+ 2.2ghz, 2.2 gigs of ram, radeon hd 4670, 300watt psu if any of this matters.

And if its possible for me to run windows 7 with that cd, how does my 2gigs of ram work into it? Would I be able to install the 64 bit version and actually play some recent games okay, even on low settings(like skyrim, BF3, etc?) it's an older computer but supports 64 bit vista, and the windows 7 upgrade advisor tool said everything was fine to upgrade.

A:Can't activate windows 7

It will run fine. If you have the Gigs, why not make a small partition of about 30 gigs or so, install 7 there, and test it out. But don`t activate it. That way you don`t have to get rid of your older system yet. Any questions, just ask. There is a wealth of knowledge here.

My bad, I re-read and saw you already put it on your pc.

I have an original retail version of Windows XP Home Edition. I believe this is my third or fourth reinstall with this CD of Windows and the Serial it brought with it. I only have used this Windows on two PC's, and only once on one of them. Now i reinstall Windows XP and everything is alright, but when I try to activate Windows (through the Internet, not telephone) it tells me that the number of times i can activate Windows with my serial has exceeded. I thought I could reinstall as many times as I wanted as long as I used an original copy of Windows XP. Can someone help me out here and tell me whats happening. Alright so, a while back i for some absent minded reason upgraded to Windows 8 for fun. Pretty sure i was drunk or something. It completely broke my computer in 100 ways and i hated it, so i grabbed my DVD and went back to Win7. Only problem is, it keeps telling me invalid key. When i called Customer Support, i was told i have to re-buy Windows 7 because i wiped my HDD when Win8 installed.

Now SURELY there is some way for me to get Windows 7 back without spending tons of money, especially since i have already paid the outrageous price for Ultimate once. I'm not really understanding why it won't let me use the key.

A:Cannot activate Windows 7

A little more info is needed.
Is your system from a major manufacturer like Dell or HP?
If so was the DVD you used to do the reinstall from that major manufacturer?
Was the Key you used from the COA sticker on that system?
Was the DVD you used the SAME type, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate, as what is on that COA sticker?

I'm currently running an activated/validated Windows 7 Home Premium (full retail) installation. I'm planning to change my motherboard to one with onboard graphics to use ATI's surroundview for 3 monitor support along with my PCI-E graphics card (I was given this advice in the graphics card forum), so no doubt I will have to re-activate W7.

BUT I'm also giving my old board to a mate (actually, I'm rebuilding his PC for him with it) who only has an OEM XP installation so effectively he will have no OS. I was planning on doing the following:

1. Rebuild his PC then install/activate/validate/update my W7 on his PC whilst it is in my possession to make sure there are no problems with compatibility or updates or whatever. Then wipe the hard drive before sending him on his way with the advice to buy W7 rather than getting XP again.

2. Rebuild my PC with the new motherboard. Reinstall my W7 on it.

Now that is at least 2 re-activations of the licence. Hardware compatibility problems could mean that this becomes 3 or 4 or 5 re-activations etc.

Obviously, it would be ideal if I could just deactivate the licence on one PC before activating it on another without having to call MS support. Is this possible? If not, are they likely to get a bit arsey if I call them 5 times in a week to reactivate my licence?

A:Is it possible to de-activate Windows 7?

You can only have your Win7 on one PC at a time. One Key - One Comp.

Hi guys,

I would greatly appreciate any help with activation. Here are the facts:

I have been running Windows 8 PRO OEM version on my laptop for over a year without any issues. For several months I have been prompted by the OS to "Install Windows 8.1 upgrade" but I have always been clicking "later" as I really did not want to mess with my production system. Eventually the upgrade was installed automatically and now I can not activate Windows... I get the following using Superfly's diagnostic script:

A:I can not activate Windows

The "unknown" errror 0x800700d8 refers to Windows not being able to process system files.

This could be due to outdated Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers.

Alternatively, a corrupted update.. check by running sfc and dism .. David has a handy script here:

Let me know the results of that... if that passes we can try rebuilding the licencing store otherwise a refresh may have to be done with a clean ISO download.

Good luck.

I have been using Windows 7 for a few months now.  I upgraded back in November 2009 and it was activated.  I boot my PC today and I am suddenly getting messages saying I need to activate Windows and the Activation server determined that the specified key could not be used.  Nothing has changed so why do I suddenly need to activate again and why does it fail when I try to?

A:Windows 7 is asking to activate again?

I bought a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade from Best Buy.  I'm quite sure it's legal, as it had activated already when I initially installed it.  It's just now saying that it needs to be activated.
HiSince the online activation failed, you will need to perform the activation manually.
1. Press the Windows Logo Key+R. This will bring up the Run dialog box.2. In the Open: box, type   slui 4  and press OK. This will start the manual activation wizard. 3. Select your Country in the drop down menu and click Next.4. The wizard will display a Toll Free phone number. Leave the wizard open on the computer and call that phone number. You will be given some recorded options. Select the option to talk to a live representative. The representative will manually activate that system for you.Let us know if you have any more problems

Laptop purchsed on 15/5/2016 @Qatar . Now Iam getting  message stating that windows 10 going to expire on 30/7/16

Hi,  What is the message EXACTLY ? I don't think that message has anything to do with your computer. I think it a a message from Microsoft which reminds people to upgrade machine to Windows 10 for free. The end date is 29Jul2016, after that date (ie from 30Jul2016) Microsoft will charge people for upgrades. Regards.

They keep saying my product key code is invalid

A:I can't activate windows

You may be able to activate by phone. There is usually an option to do that. If that fails you'll need to speak with Microsoft support so they can sort it out.

Basically last week when i logged on, it said Windows Needs Activating, Activate now. So i clicked Yes, and it said it was already activated and left me the in the famous " Windows Activation Loop ". So i booted into safe mode, and messed around with the key in the regedit which allowed me to activate windows when i logged on. So it came up with the options, i tried the internet one but it said it can't connect even though my internet is connected ect. So i opted with the telephone option. It gave me the number, so i ring it, it comes up with the automated voice asking for the Instalation ID. So i typed in the installtion ID on the phone numbers, and it said it was being generated or something. Then it said " Error, we couldn't activate the ID or something like that and told me i might be a victim of piracy blah blah blah. So i contacted a Microsoft Techi, told him my problem, and he asked for my computers product key, which i provided, and he said that its incorrect or he couldn't find it ect. Told me to contact my Computers manufacture and purchase a new Windows CD as i've lost my current one.

So now im stuck. The hardrive is secondhand but i've had it for over 2 years and activated windows about 2 times already on this PC without a problem. Is there anyway to activate windows with a generated product key of the internet or is that impossible. I've actually activated windows by going into safe mode, going into regedit > WPAEvents and putting in a key t... Read more

A:Can't Activate Windows

That does not sound correct. Either the Product Key is valid or it is not. Getting a new CD is not going to fix an invalid Product Key.

Do you have a Microsoft Product Label with a Product Key on it? Where are you getting the characters for the Product Key from?
