How do I activate Bluetooth in Windows 8?

Q: How do I activate Bluetooth in Windows 8?

I have an Envy 4-1130us ultrabook that is really nice, but I can't get my bluetooth to work. It did work for about a week, but somehow is now failing. I attempted to go into pc settings > wireless and turn the bluetooth to "on" but it is not allowing this. I have also tried using f12, but it is only activating the wi fi. FYI - I was using the bluetooth for a wireless mouse. Anything else I might try?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I see that you're having an issue activating the Bluetooth on your notebook. I noticed you have already done a couple of steps to try and resolve this issue. I will list a couple of steps for you to follow, let me know if this resolves your issue. 1. Press the Windows + W key.2. Type Bluetooth into the Search field.Figure 20: Searching for BluetoothClick Change Bluetooth settings from the list of results.Click the box next to Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area , and then click Apply .Figure 21: Showing the Bluetooth icon in the notification areaThe Bluetooth icon displays in the notification area in the lower right.Double-click the Bluetooth icon to access common tasks for Bluetooth devices.Figure 22: Bluetooth menuTips for finding a Bluetooth deviceIf Windows cannot detect the Bluetooth device, check the following items:Make sure that wireless communication is turned on (Notebook computers only) Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on and set to be discoverable on the device. When a device is set to be discoverable, it uses radio signals to broadcast its location to other Bluetooth devices and computers.A device such as a wireless mouse or a keyboard, might have a button on it that you need to push.A device such as a Bluetooth mobile phone, might have a setting in the menu that you need to select to turn on Bluetooth so the device can be discovered.NOTE:If you do not know how to set your device to be discoverable, check the information that came with your device or go to the manufacturer?s website.A device such as computer might need to have the Discovery setting turned on. To turn on Discovery in Windows 8, press the Windows + W key.Type bluetooth into the Search field.Figure 25: Searching for bluetoothClick Change Bluetooth settings from the list of results. The Bluetooth Settings window displays. In the Discovery area on the Options tab, click Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer .Figure 26: Making the Bluetooth device discoverable Also, here are a couple of tips you can consider using while trying to activate the bluetooth. Make sure the device is turned on, is not low on battery power, and is not in sleep mode.Make sure the device is within wireless range of your computer, usually within six to nine feet. If you are not sure if the device is in range, move it closer to your computer, or put the device and computer in the same room.Make sure there are no other devices interfering with the wireless device, such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, or other wireless devices. If your computer uses an external Bluetooth adapter, make sure the adapter is attached and installed, and is working correctly. If Bluetooth is integrated in your computer, especially a notebook computer, make sure the Bluetooth radio transmitter is turned on because many notebook computers have a button to turn the transmitter on and off. If you are not sure how to turn it on, check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website. If you have any more questions please let me know. THX

I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard set (logitech dinovo), that works fine on the log-in screen when i boot the computer, but once you click log in, the mouse and keyboard stop responding for 1-2 minuites. Then they come back, and are fine for the rest of the session.

Why does it take so long? Can't i just keep it in whatever mode it's in at startup so theres no delay?

Recently I received a new set of wireless, bluetooth headphones as a Father's day gift. I have successfully paired the headphones to my smartphone and my laptop, Acer Aspire running Windows 8.1. I have no problems using the phones with the smartphone, but the laptop is my problem. The "Control Panel" under "Sound" shows the phones, but they are designated as "Disconnected". Nothing I do can activate the device, and no help from MS and their literature shows me nothing beyond what I've already done. Under "Devices and Printers", the phones are shown as recognized but still they don't work. I don't know if I just have not found the correct toggle to turn on the phones or if it's something else. I'd hate to return the headphones since they were a gift from the "kids", but if these cannot be useful, I have no choice. Please help!!!!

I want to play music on my mobile phone but listen the sound on my E5450 laptop, using bluetooth (not other methods)
I have paired the device with the laptop, but I see no options in Windows about what bluetooth services is Windows offering to paired devices.
The laptop is using latest Intel bluetooth driver for the device that appears in device manager with name "Intel Wireless Bluetooth", with these hardware ids:
USB\VID_8087&PID_0A2B&REV_0001
There is a "bluetooth headset service" on windows with start type manual, I've started hoping it would allow phone to "see" the laptop as a bluetooth audio headset but no change.
I remember old Windows had a "Services" tab sheet on the bluetooth settings but on my W10 is gone.
Is this gone for good from Windows 10, or only on my laptop? Using latest released windows version.

A:How to view/enable bluetooth services (bluetooth windows service is already working) on E5450 with Windows 10?

I?m not sure where to find that info, but streaming audio from your phone to the PC would require that the PC act as an A2DP target, and to my knowledge Windows only acts as an A2DP source.

Hi Everyone,  I just swapped out the hard drive in my ThinkPad T510 and replaced it with a zippy SSD.I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 thinking I have my Windows 7 COA (clearly visible under my battery). But I was unable to activate Windows 10. I called Microsoft and they said yes, I have a geniune copy of Windows 7 BUT that the OEM (Lenovo) was blocking the activation. I called Lenovo and they said it's a Microsoft issue. I called Lenovo again and they said I needed to pay $45 for recovery discs because my "real" Windows 7 code was secreted in a system board, and once I retrieved that, I would have to install Windows 7 on my new SSD, then upgrade to Windows 10 and the activation would take. Um, really? Isn't there an easier (and cheaper) way to accomplish this? Again, my Windows 7 COA is clearly visible under my battery but it didn't work. What am I doing wrong? And can anyone out there make it right? Thank you so much!

A:How do I activate windows on a Dell laptop which came with pre installed genuine windows 8.

It is possible  you have a pirated copy of Windows. Computers with a factory installed legal copy of Windows do not need to be activated. The activation code for Windows 8 is located in the system BIOS and is read automatically. You can check the code by using one of the utilities that will extract it from the BIOS. If there is a code, contact Microsoft and ask them if the code is valid.

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I have a bit of a problem with my mothers laptop and I couldn't find other cases that matched mine.
We bought her a new laptop: Toshiba KIRA, pre installed with windows 8. Due to her work requirements, we needed windows 7 professional. So I wiped it clean and installed windows 7 on it and all was running well. I used a copy of a windows 7 disk I bought 4 years ago with no product key or information, just the disk. 30 days later, of course, the time has come to activate windows. So when I log into the computer and the message appears and I click 'buy a new product key', redirected to Microsoft page and downloaded the LegitCheck for validation. After this process, an error came up saying that product keys are no longer available for purchase and that I couldn't activate. I contacted Microsoft support through live chat and she checked out the Product ID and it was registered as an OEM copy and that I'd need to contact the manufacturer.
I don't know a lot about OEM or whatever, but I do know it's a once of thing, tied to the one PC forever. I have concluded that I would need to buy a whole new OEM copy of windows 7 and wipe the other one off. Finally, I come to my question: If I buy the said product and it comes with the OEM product key, am I able to enter that key under system properties where it says the product ID and 'Change product key', OR do I have to wipe the computer completely and reinstall it, entering the product key when prompted? The background: Had a Dell XPS that took a lightning hit through the cable modem and blew out the motherboard. (Power supply, hard drive and all else were okay. Modem was cooked!) Bought a Dell (I think Dimension) that had no hard drive, but a 3.2 Ghz Intel 4 processor, assorted peripherals. I pulled the 160 GB SATA hard drive from my XPS, popped it into this one. Wouldn't boot up windows. Ran diagnostics from BIOS, everything checked out. It just kept saying something about "to protect your computer windows has shut down." And gave an error code. Anyway, I never had a reinstall disk, so I bought one. When it asked if I wanted to repair the edition of XP Pro that was already on the hard drive, I hit "R." It went through it's reinstall steps. Everything seemed to be going according to plan, up to that point. Had a hiccup or two getting it to boot to Windows from there, but now the bootup seems to be working, after a fashion. When I turn it on, it boots to the Windows welcome screen. Then I get a dialogue box that says: "This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?" At this point, I can click "No," on that dialogue box, it returns to a welcome screen, and then brings up the welcome screen with my personal settings and log-in name from the hard drive. And I get the same dialogue box again. "This copy of Windows must be activated with Mi... Read more

I have moved my OS to a new hard drive (from HDD to SSD) AND reinstalled it because I wanted to start afresh. I did not use a new .iso, I used the recovery option. Since then, I discovered that Windows 8 wasn't activated and so I tried to do so with the product key I found via Produkey, a third party software. It didn't work and I contacted Microsoft several times. They confirmed it was an OEM that had been blocked since it was used "over 100 times", and that I'd need to contact HP to get the key (which doesn't make sense to me - is it the same key? The key in the BIOS? If so that's pretty pointless since it doesn't work). The general gist I got was to contact HP since it was their problem, not Microsoft's. However, looking for a phone number/email/anything for HP has been a nightmare since my warranty expired back in 2014 and the only support for out-of-warranty products is unrelated to my problem. Can someone help me with getting a hold of a real person at HP or something? I refuse to spend more money buying the same OS again. What options can I take? Note: currently my OS is actually 8.1 because I thought it might've been the OS version that was the problem. It didn't work.

A:Activate Windows

Hi blmc, It is because the key is actually connected to the motherboard, you should have some sort of sticker saying what version of windows with the product key on the computer somewhere (Possibly underneath the battery on certain models of laptops) However if you are still not able to find it there is a freeware application that you are able to download and it will rip the key off your motherboard its called ProduKey. You will run and it will come up with the windows OEM key that you copy and paste into your system to activate it I hope this helps and please reply if you need anymore help! - Sarasona

My version of Windows is not valid? I need to activate it but don't have a product key for the Vista Business that someone put on my laptop after taking out Windows 7. Therefore I can't do anything except get to the desktop if I start in Safe Mode. Help, what do I do?

A:Activate Windows

The seller must have installed Vista just to show the PC works.  You have some choices.  First go back to the seller and ask them about the Vista key.  I would not bother, IMHO, with Vista and install Windows 7.  So, ask about that with the seller, too.Otherwise, if that does not produce any fruits, get Windows 7 yourself and install. If you provide a more complete model number, there might be a Recovery disk set available from Computer SurgeonsGo to that linked site and fill in the model number

Pulling my hair out

After my hard drive failed, I have done a clean install of Windows 7 Pro that I got from Microsoft as a student. I have always always done the clean install when I had to do an install and never had an issue before.

This time when I try to activate I get this:

I clicked the top option and get this:

I entered my Product Code and clicked Next

After a bit I get:

Basically say I can't my Product Code with clean install. There is NO option for activation phone or any other method.

I resorted to doing a search for this problem and found this page.

Clean Install Windows 7 with Upgrade Media

I tried to use Method #2. I made the changes in the registry and closed it.
I then ran "CMD"

and got this message:

I don't have a clue how to elevated privileges for this process.

I did take ownership of everything in the windows folder but that did not help any at all.

I really don't want to have to install Windows again. This is the first time it has worked well in two weeks.

Please ... Please ... Does anyone have a way to fix this or another method I use to activate my windows?

Hello Huffman,

Be sure that you are opening an elevated command prompt while doing OPTION THREE in the tutorial below for the same thing. The command prompt that you opened in your screenshot is not elevated, so that is why you are getting that error message.

A:Windows can not activate

It looks to me as if you simply neglected to activate it inside the Grace Period.

telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

A:Windows 7 Pro keeps on asking to activate.....

The Key type is OEM_COA_SLP. Such Keys are only legally sold pre-installed on large manufacturer's machines, with the COS sticker already affixed.
This is almost certainly counterfeit. What sort of packaging did you get with it?

What's happening I suspect is that someone else has also been issued the same Key, and is having exactly the same issue as you, because every time you re-activate it, it's automatically invalidating the other install (and vice-versa).

You should attempt to demand a refund from the vendor - since you are in the US you can threaten them with being reported to the FBI for counterfeiting.
Unfortunately, I don't believe that this license type qualifies for a free replacement under MS's piracy scheme - but you should try it anyhow. - start here.. How to Tell ? Hardware

My laptop was purchased in 2010 and has Windows 7 Professional on it. I never had a problem until about 2 months ago when restored to factory settings, which doesn't require a Windows disc. About a month later I started getting messages all over about how Windows might not be genuine and I needed to activate it. The only option it gave me was to activate online, which when I did that I got an error.

So I reformatted AGAIN, hoping I wouldn't have the problem. Now it tells me I have 2 days until automatic activation, which I'm guessing isn't going to work because it didn't last time. When I click 'Activate Window Now', I get an error: 0x8007007B... Now right under that there is a product ID and I'm not sure if that's what I need to enter, or where to enter it.

I went to Microsoft's website and had it run its test to see if it says Windows is genuine, and it is, but I'm worried that I'm gonna run into the same problem as last time if I don't get this activated. I'd much rather figure out a way to do it online than over the phone. Thanks!

I have an Ideapad 320-15IKB that came preinstalled with Windows 10 then updated it with Windows Pro 64bit as suggested by the system. I did not install any "not geniune" Windows  After months of use, it had watermark at the right bottom of the screen saying "Activate Windows." I tried manual and troubleshoot to activate it but it wont work. I found a product key using Produkey and tried running it in command prompt (admin) however, it gives me Error 0x8007007B. I even downloaded RW-everything to look for the key but I can't find the msdm tab.  My questions is How can i retrieve my windows 10 activation key?Is my windows not geniune? How can I activate my windows? 510-15IKB Laptop (Ideapad) Type Model: 80XL00H2AD

Hi Everyone,

I am having an issue with activating Windows 10 Pro.

When I first purchased my new laptop it came with Windows 8.1. However I needed to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro (due to using the laptop in a business environment).

I suspect that changing to Windows 8.1 Pro changed my product key, which has now affected my ability to activate Windows 10 Pro.

Here is the screen that I see when I look at whether or not Windows is activated -

When I click on the 'Error details' link I see the following -

If I look at the current product key (or at least the last five digits) it does not match my old key (as obtained using Balarc Advisor).

Furthermore if I attempt to change the Product Key by substituting the key that I obtained from Balarc Advisor before performing the upgrade it is rejected.

If anybody has any suggestions on how to overcome this issue they will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

You may be able to activate by phone. There is usually an option to do that. If that fails you'll need to speak with Microsoft support so they can sort it out.

I've got this desktop with Windows 7 7600 installed, but I can't activate it. When I try to, there is a flashing command prompt telling me the SLUI.exe is too big for the memory.

Then I re-armed the activation and it's now back to 30 days, but something is still wrong with the SLUI.exe
