I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't use IE, I use Opera portable
It was not registered as the default browser which it is now,
Clinking on web links within applications (help & support links for example) opens the browser ok, but only to my start page, not to the intended web page.
Also, when I click on a HTML file, it does the same thing. Opens the browser to the start page, not the file.

It's not recognizing the link or the file.

I went through the URL Associations etc. in the registry and they all point to Opera. Protocols point to Opera also. I was successful the 1st time I tried this, but I don't remember exactly how that was different that this time. (I had to load a recent backup image for other unrelated problems left over from a bloated program I couldn't clean out).

Any ideas??

I have a LAN connection through ATT. and have not been able to connect to the internet with 2 desk top machines that I have , I do not have any problem connecting with a lop top. A connection is shown in the systray at the bottom of the screen but the page will not open. The error is: Internet Explorer could not open this page. Any help would be appreaciated

Hello All,
I'm sure someone in here has probably ran into the same problem I'm having..and that is trying to print a adobe 'flash' page that I desired to. When you click on the 'print preview' button in the browser, it's blank. There's got to be some kind of a 'fix' for this problem...does anyone have any suggestions ?

A:Can't Print Flash Page With Firefox Browser

Don't pay attention to the print preview. Just print and you'll get your page. I also have blank preview in FF but pages are printed OK. Don't forget to use Landscape orientation for horizontal page to get good result.

I have recently sent my comp to get fixed (though the prob was electrical so i don't think that has anything to do with it) but when i got it back, the whole comp was working really slowly and i had Flash asking me to update and RealPlayer to update and Firefox to update. I did update RealPlayer (but immediately uninstalled as made the slowness worse and reinstalled earlier version which worked fine) and Firefox which said that it had an update for the dictionary English (Australian).

OK, so. After doing RealPlayer and ignoring Flash, the slowness got worse, then when i had a few programs going the whole comp froze and kept trying to unfreeze (i think??) because the song i was playing in Real kept replaying the 2 secs it had frozen on but then gradually replayed 3 secs, then 4 secs, but i just restarted the comp and uninstalled and reinstalled Real and everything seemed dandy but then Firefox said it had an update for the dictionary and so i did it, but then it said there was a problem installing the update and so then i said continue and it opened up Firefox, but then i tried to go to a website and the whole Firefox program just diappeared off the screen. I clicked open firefox again and tried a different webpage but the same thing happened. I tried the restore session and start new session options but both ended up with the same prob of disappearing off the screen (presumably closing).

The thing is that the homepage (google) is there when firefox opens but then when... Read more

If another program wants to display a web page in the default browser, Firefox will reuse an existing window by default, which means that it will navigate from a page you might be reading. To stop this, Go to Tools > Options... (Edit > Preferences... under Linux and Mac OS X), select Advanced and click on Tabbed Browsing. Under "Open links from other applications in:", you can choose the alternative you prefer.

This is my first post and I would like to thank you in advance for helping me

Recently I came across this problem (my laptop is HP and my operating system is Vista). Whenever I was searching and clicked on a link to open, the desired site did not come up and firefox and IE both opened up an advertising page. I have never come across this problem before. I have run many different scans including Norton and Bite defender. Norton finds nothing but bite defender finds a site in the RECYCLER but can not delete it even after restarting.

I was reading the other posts and I know that it says to download Hijackthis and post the log but I can properly install the application and whenever I click on it it says' Hijack this is already running/open" but i can't see anything.

Please please help me.

Hello, just wanted to if there is a shortcut in Firefox that would open your current page that you are viewing in a new tab. There are shortcuts for new tab, new window ect. cant find one for this, strange. Thanks.

A:Firefox. Open current page in new tab shortcut?

Firefox does not have this. Reason is that nobody would want to reopen the same page in new tab very often. You can open a new tab and copy paste the address in new tab's location bar.

i am using eset smart security 5 as my laptop antivirus...
then i connect the wireless in my college..after connected, i open my web browser..

the main problem is when i open the web browser...it's not automatically open that "Web Authentication" page..so i had to bookmark this link then when i open the browser i had to type this in the address bar so i can open this link...if i do not type this link the browser will continue loading until it shown the "Problem loading page"...

i hope you guys can help me to solve this problem so that my browser can automatically open the link without trouble me to type the link...i think this problem is caused by the eset antivirus...is there any solution without to remove eset antivirus...

sorry for bad english..

A:Web Authentication page not automatically open by web browser

I doubt it has much to do with eset, and everything to do with all of Cisco's software that colleges use to make you log in to the network sucking eggs. The easiest thing to do in XP (which is what I assume to be the main OS you're using based on the screen shot) is to either make the login page your homepage or add a short cut to it on your desktop. You should be able to just drag and drop the link from your favorites/bookmarks to the desktop.

Hi all,

I just signed up and did some searching but I couldn't find the answer to my problem.

Neither the firefox or IE browser will open on my computer. I have an internet connection. I press the browser icons to launch, get the little hour glass to appear for a second like the browser is about to launch, but then nothing.

On my last attempt to connect, I received the following error message:

This application has failed to start because xpcom_core.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

This is the first time I had received this notification. I did not get the same message when I tried launching IE.

Am I just going to have to uninstall/reinstall Firefox?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks so much.

A:Firefox and IE browser won't open...

Hi Chris,

Firstly, try re-installing Firefox. You may have had a faulty installation or somehow some files have gone missing or are corrupted. You could try installing over the top of the original installation first but if you get the same errors, uninstall Firefox and clean out the Program folder. Your bookmarks and other data are safe in your profile folder as long as you don't tick the option to clear all files on uninstall.

Why IE is giving you problems I have no idea, at this point anyway.

Ok so here's the deal.

A couple of days ago, i believe something happened to my computer, whether it was malware or spyware, i'm not sure. Anyway, i went to another part of this forum and got it all cleared away, however, my firefox browser starting acting weird. First of all the GEtting started, adn Latest headlines tabs at the top of the browser suddenly disappeared. also the start page no longer had the images, maps, or other hyperlinks.

So i uninstalled firefox, deleted all profiles, and downloaded a new version of firefox. However, the start page still doesn't have the images, "maps" and other hyperlinks above the search bar. Is this a new change or is something wrong with my computer, Please help?

Also I was wondering if I could retrieve my old bookmarks. thanks in advance for anyone who helps!

A:I have a problem with my new Firefox start page

Can you post a screenshot so we can view exactly what you mean please silversquire.

Your old bookmarks have gone if you deleted your profiles (unless you deliberatlely situated them outside of the Profile folder), that's where they are situated, as bookmarks.html If you didn't empty your Recycle bin you could try to restore them. If you emptied the Recycle Bin you could try to restore them with an undelete prog like Recuva, Undelete Plus, Restoration or some good utility tools have them as part of their prog, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

The loss of Getting Started & Latest headlines would indicate a change in your homepage settings or bookmark settings.

The loss of images etc could be your Firefox settings - Tools > Options > Content - or maybe your firewall.

It isn't always necessary to delete your Profiles as they are situated in a different directory from the Firefox installation files.

What your status at the moment? Have you d/l Firefox again? What version? Have you created a new profile?

I am on IE 11 and have been since it was released. Also, I open 4 tabs when IE starts, outlook.com being one of them. I've been doing this for a few years.

Starting within the last couple of months I started experiencing various "could not access, try again later", "page not found" errors, random long delays and, worst of all, the browser would get into a state where it would not refresh any pages - when the tab is selected or even when refresh is selected while the tab's address is being displayed. When in that state, if I click on another tab it will highlight that tab and its URL will be displayed in the address bar but it won't change the page being displayed. The only thing I can do at that point is to open the task manager and kill IE and start over.

About the only time it has happened when I was actively doing something with the browser was when it was on the outlook page/tab. The rest of the time it occurs after I have been doing nothing for 5-10 minutes or have been away from the outlook page that long.

I have disabled Norton Security Suite -- a/v and firewall -- and it made no difference. I then tried the Google Chrome browser but it would do the same thing.

As I said, this has been going on for a couple of months and during that time I have come more and more to suspect that its related to the outlook site. About a week ago it quit displaying the outlook page unless I disabled the Norton toolbar. But, again as I said earlier, completely ... Read more

A:Home page hijack and popups when browser not open

Hi gundy1976

Welcome to TSG!

Click here to download CWShredder. UnZip the file, close all browser windows and click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished Restart your computer.

To help prevent this from happening again, I strongly recommend you install the patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits.

The simplest way to make sure you have all the security patches is to go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates and Service Packs"

Come back here and post another Hijack This log and we'll get rid of what's left.

I use Windows 98 (just to let u know).
My Internet Explorer (IE6) start page (previously www.yahoo.com) has been replaced by ''. I've tried changing my home page option in IE's properties back to www.yahoo.com, but the 'intruder site' keeps reseting the address field and coming back again...

I'll attempt to descibe what happens exactly once I'm connected to the net...
Once I've connected to the internet, opening IE takes me to '' , 'www.Cool Web Search.com', ’about:blank’, a few ads about fixing spyware on my pc and another window named 'tpx/open/console_out.php' or something like that...one after the other in succession...(then again, I’m not sure I got the order right…that isn’t important anyway…)

Once I get the 'tpx/open/console_out.php' window I find it necessary to close it immediately 'cuz if I let it load, it disconnects me from the internet , and my second attempt to connect back proves futile as I get a message saying 'The modem is being used by another Dial-up connection. Close the other connection and try again. ' (so I've learnt by experience...sigh...)

I don’t know if this message I encounter is related in any way to a Dail-up Connection dialog box which keeps popping up on my screen almost without reason randomly at any time, right from the moment I switch on my pc. This Dail-up Connec... Read more

A:IE browser start page hijacked

Hi and welcome to TSG,

First click: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html to download CWShredder, but don't run it yet.

Next click: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxAgentB.exe to download the Backdoor.Agent.B Removal Tool from Symantec. Save the file to a convenient location, such as your Windows desktop.

Close all the running programs

If you are on a network or have a full-time connection to the Internet, such as a DSL or cable modem, disconnect the computer from the network and Internet.

Double-click the FxAgentB.exe file to start the removal tool.
When you receive the message telling you start any other applications, click OK.

Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.
Restart the computer.

Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.

Be sure to save the log file the removal tool creates to post back here later.

Run CWShredder immediately. Click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do its thing.

Please download and run the following programs:

Go here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
and download Ad-Aware SE Personal

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the bottom right-hand corner of the main window click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

Then, in the main window: Click Start and under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Over the past week I've been in the process of reinstalling programs to my computer after having to reinstall WindowsXP. Up until this past Friday everything was running smoothly, and then in the blink of an eye trying to browse web pages has become a frustrating act taking much longer than it should. When running other applications not involving going online, my computer runs completely fine. I suspect spyware is the cause because when I first began reinstalling programs I inadvertantly came across a web page that I know hit me with a load of spyware...all this happening before I reloaded my firewall and antivirus software. Eventually I installed these programs and cleaned out my computer to the point where I could work without worrying about spyware cropping up. I still suspect remnants of spyware remain on my computer which has now caused my browsing online to become a near impossibility. I am only able to ask for your assistance on this web site while running my computer in safe mode.
Sorry for being so wordy..I just wanted to be as descriptive as possible to help you out in determining the correct actions to help alleviate my problem.

A:Opening up either my IE or Firefox browser results in painfully slow web page loads..

Hi Mark and welcome to TSF.

Download L2MFix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts. Then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. After a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 or any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Hi Guys.

As the title suggests neither of my web browsers will open. At first they did but only limited access.(only google and a few other websites)

But now, they do not even load? IE opens(blank) and then says no connection.
I did system restore a number of times, flushed the DNS( I'm not 100% on this as only a blank cmd screen flashed after I did so)

Any help greatly appreciated.

A:My Browser will not open on laptop(Firefox and IE)

Version of FF and IE? Operating system? For firefox you can try:Taken from hereIf Firefox previously worked but suddenly doesn't start, it may be due to some corrupt data in your settings. Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox would not fix this problem because your settings are not removed on uninstall. To test to see if this is the problem, use the Profile Managerto create a new profile. If the problem goes away, you can then move your bookmarks and other important settings into the new profile.

I have several versions of firefox. Trouble is, if they are a beta or nightly build, every time I use a different version, then switch back, I get the "first time run" page like "thank you for using a beta" or whatever. I can't find a setting to kill this off. Start with blank page has no effect. Is there maybe an about:config that will stop it from doing this?

I’m using Firefox 35.0 to access the internet. I’ve got Windows 7 64 bit as an OS
Lately when I click on Firefox, the previous page is shown.
Before, I would start on my home page

In Start up under the General Tab I’ve got >>> “Show home page”
In the Privacy tab, I’ve got under History>>>Custom settings for History…Remember search and form history.

None of this has change.

I’ve run my Norton antivirus program which shows “100% clear”

What else should I look for ??

Before I began this thread I have searched all my posts because I am certain I asked this question somewhere at some point in the past. But I cannot find it here so here goes:

I have Windows 7, IE11, all updates. I only have IE11 since a week or 2. Before that I had IE7 (!!!)

Anyway, before this IE change happened, when I would open a new tab for a new browser window, it would come up with 2 rows of 5 logo's of websites that I visit frequently. In those boxes, under the name, there was a little colored bar, depicting the percentage of my time spend on that particular website.

I want that back. I have searched in all know to me places but I can not find it. Can anyone perhaps point me where that option is to choose?

Thank you very much in advance.

A:When I open a new browser, I want the new page show the names of much visited sites.

It's not even 10 minutes ago that I posted my question.

After posting I opened a new tab and..... Bazinga!!! Here were the 10 little boxes that have been looking for! It's magic! I don't know if I inadvertently changed any setting, if I did, I cannot remember which one or where. But it is back! Yeah!!!!!

So thank you for reading, and if you can tell me how this happened I would still appreciate it.

Kind regards,
