Q: BSOD - Certain Games Causing PC Crash

I have recently upgraded virtually my entite PC (think the only remaining items are the CPU's and the drives) so I could jump ship from console to PC gaming and have found that certain games are crashing my PC (so far Ghosts, TF2, Outlast have crashed it sporadically - although I seem to have resolved the Ghosts issue by updating my motherboard drivers and one game called Madballs crashed my PC repeatedly till I had to stop playing it before I bonged someone on the head with my keyboard)...

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So, i have a very peculiar problem. I'm having game crashes due to ntdll.dll. As this was only happening to FO4 at the time i went to their customer support and have been emailing back and forth to try and solve the issue, but recently ive discovered that its not just FO4, Subnautica and Nier Automata also crash suddenly because of ntdll.dll with the same error code. It also crashes when I dont launch it through steam. I am at a complete loss at this point on what to do. Earlier today i tried getting help from microsoft through live support and the guy decided to download ntdll.dll from dllme.com and proceeded to paste it in almost every directory in my steam folder as a fix...

Things i have tried:
- Verifying game files
- Completely uninstalled Nvidia drivers and reinstalled them - Disabled steam overlay
- Ran both steam and the affected games as admin
- Added steam and the games to my antivirus exception list - Attempted various ini changes (FO4)
- Disabled Geforce Expereince Optimization - Cleared my steam download cache
- Uninstalled razer synapse (didnt solve my issue so i reinstalled)
- Disabled all services that were not microsoft services besides the Steam Client service (didnt solve it so i re-enabled what was needed)
- Re-installed DirectX
- Re-installed Visual C++
- Reinstalled .NET framework
- Installed all available windows updates
- Ran a virus scan
- Ran a mem-test (came back clean after 10 times)
- Ran chkdsk on the drive with my OS on it (no issues foun... Read more

Hello everyone. Got a bit of a problem, here.

I've recently upgraded to a 'new' Radeon 9800PRO (I know, I'm a cheapskate and luddite) and I've been experiencing some seemingly random problems. Some games cause my computer to either spontaneously reboot or, if set to not reboot on crash, give me a blank BSOD.

I've not spotted any pattern with which games set this off, but the oddest example is that older Source games (HL2, Ep1) will crash my system, but the entire Orange Box runs fine and dandy! Other games I've found to cause the crash are Darwinia and Oblivion. I really have no idea what the pattern is.

Things I have tried so far, to no avail:
* Disabling on-board sound to rule out clashes
* Increasing voltage to my AGP slot
* Downgrading my AGP to x4
* Knocking the graphics way down

The rest of system is specced thusly:
AMD 3000+ XP
1.5GB RAM
nForce 2 mobo (MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR (MS-6570G))
System temp is around 40-50 C and the CPU temp is around 60-70 C
All drivers fully up to date

Any help would be greatly appeciated. In all honesty, in my many travels from support forum to support forum this has been the finest by far.

Many thanks!

You may need to download a graphics card driver for that graphics card. heres a link to ati radeon's drivers:

You have damaged your registry by using a cleaner. I'd suggest using System Restore to get an undamaged copy back and please do not use them again. They will only damage and slow down your computer. Registries are damaged even more when a cleaner is used while there is a problem because they delete anything that is missing, and that may make the problem a lot worse.

The unloading "error" you see is one that occurs quite frequently in the NT family. It has to do with some difficulty unloading the user's profile hive, and in XP, an update addressed the problem. The solution is already built into Vista and above. It has nothing whatever to do with how games would run.

Again, please do not double, triple, or quadruple post.

I have an Alienware m17x R5, and recently (for about 6 months) I have had ever increasing issues with my games crashing. 1 of 2 errors occur. I either get a popup  saying that my rendering device has been lost and forced the game to crash, or the video freezes up but the game continues to play in the background (i can perform all actions in game still). I have done a factory reset on my laptop so i dont believe it is an issue with any malware or programs running in the background. i have tried reinstalling older graphics drivers, removing all graphics drivers from my laptop and reinstalling from nvidia nothing has worked. Even lowering my settings in game to the lowest possible only gets me a few extra minutes of play time before the game crashes, ive also tried over/underclocking my GPU. One of my friends suggested that it was becuase my battery doesnt charge yet i have tried running the games without the battery in and the issues still persist. I have also used the Dell techsupoprt program and it all comes up in working order, even though my batter doesnt charge about 40%

Hey all,
I'm having an issue with my ASUS F5GL laptop. If I try to launch a game like Counter-Strike: Source, Garry's Mod or Just Cause 2, not long after actually leaving the menu and beginning to play (anywhere between 2-5min), the whole laptop just silently crashes. I checked ALL the logs, and there is nothing in there, except something recorded at boot, saying the computer was not cleanly shutdown. When it does crash, a second before it crashes, a weird thin horizontal line appears in a random location on the screen, going all the way across the screen. This was happening under Windows Vista, but I just bought and did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium, and it's still happening. I have updated my drivers and it still happens. Hi. I've recently been trying to play Metal Gear Solid 5 but every time I boot it up my PC either crashes as soon as the splash screens are done or after a few minutes. It's been crashing while playing other games as well but it's been much rarer. It's not a BSOD crash and it doesn't produce any crash dumps so I'm leaning towards it being a problem with either the PSU, the motherboard or one of the graphics cards. Any help with finding the cause of this would be appreciated.

The PSU model is fd-psu-newt2-800, the graphics cards are both Nvidia GTX760s and the motherboard is a ASUS Sabertooth Z77

A:Windows 8 causing computer to crash with no BSOD

Lot's of BSOD's in the uploaded reports

Check to make sure that you have ALL Windows Updates

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions). We suspect the same thing with Windows 8 systems.

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [S] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/S] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi, I have just had my Windows 7 64 bit BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).

I used chrome yesterday morning, the 1st time, it was fine for about 30 mins, then crashed, I had the laptop restarted. The 2nd time, it crashed right after i started and turned to blue screen error, same as the 3rd time. This is my .dmp files. Maybe someone can analyse it and find the faulty driver or something?

Thanks very much, in advance,

This issue has been aggravating me for a while and I really want it to be taken care of. Since I bought this computer, mostly all my games have been crashing on me, and I'd say about 90% of the games I play just randomly crash or gives me the blue screen of death, most often the blue screen of death.

Here are my specifications as I'm sure that someone will be asking for it:

4 Gb of OCZ RAM
i5 750 2.7GHz
XFX Radeon HD 5870
MSI P55-GD65 mobo
1 Tb of HDD memory...

Running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, using Corsair H50 liquid cooling as my main source of cooling and a Silverstone Strider 1000W PSU. GPU is always updated to its latest, BIOS has never been updated (still at 1.1 or something, I've seen the site and there's an option about updating it to 1.7 but I've heard bad things about updating BIOS), and my CPU is usually 29 ?C, sometimes spiking to something like 38 ?C for a few seconds when I'm gaming. I know a virus isn't causing this because I've wiped my hard drive a few times already.

If you guys need anymore information, please ask...

Thanks...

The other night I was playing an online FPS and the computer suddenly crashed and I got a blue screen with an error message that dissapeared too fast for me to read.
However I've gone and attached the minidump file in my post.
The problem has returned 4 times already and I'm starting to get worried, I'm not quite sure what to do.
It only happens when I play games though, which is different from the other posts I've read...

If anyone could help me out, I'd very much appreciate it! ;3

Hello all.
I am new to these forums and need some help. Many of the other posts are of BSOD's, but mine is different. Outside of games my computer performs and runs perfectly fine and same with games, until recently.

Just recently (no, i have not installed ANYTHING) my computer started crashing during games only. It's wierd because normally people get BSOD, but in my case i get repeating sound and still image. Even if i let it sit there for a while it still doesnt give me a blue screen. I am forced to reboot using my reset button. At first it was only with CoD2, which i thought it was specific only to that game, but the other day i was playing EQ2 and the sound froze and image froze. The sound, lets say of me slashing, keeps repeating.

I have the latest drivers for my Graphics card and for my sound card and dont know why this started happening. The wierd thing is that i havent installed anything. Ive diagnosed my HD and nothing comes up, ive scanned my comp and its clean, ive yet to check the ram but willdo tonight. I hope its not the ram, and its compatible w/my Mobo (checked before i bought it). Ill try updating as many drivers as possible, but again... it shouldnt be this because it ran perfectly earlier with these drivers.

Ive had a chipset problem on my mobo a long time ago, but doubt it was this because that was about 2 months ago and games have been running fine afterwards (of course, until now). Also, Ive had SP2 from the getgo, so it shouldnt b... Read more

A:My Games Crash (Not BSOD)

Sounds like the same problem I have these days. When you reboot and it loads back into Windows, does it say 'Windows recovered from a serious error' and quote the error code 1000007f in the error report that is generated?

Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
- installed myself (full retail)

Just upgraded mobo, graphics card , new RAM, and water cooler for cpu

ASUS Motherboard M5
AMD FX(tm) - 8150 Eight-Core Processor
Radeon AMD HD 6950
(tried a backup Nvidia 650 TI but had the same problems)

Though the comp seems to crash the most during games, it has also crashed while using the internet, and on the desktop with nothing but programs and windows open. It doesn't always give me BSOD, sometimes it just freezes and system manager cannot be called up. One time it even cut out the sound of the game after stuttering for a second. A minute later the rest of it froze.

I used Blue Screen View and it seems to source ntoskrnl.exe as the main culprit though others like blbdrive.sys and win32k.sys have also showed up.

Any help would be great. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Recently my computer has begun to crash in the middle of games (Counter strike and League of Legends). The crash happens abruptly while playing, the screen tears the image completely where nothing on the screen is now identifiable, just shreds of the image/colors/pixels. The PC then stops all tasks and continues to run with the frozen image on the screen with no sound or anything running. I have to hard reset and hold the power button. The computer runs fine right after, a slow boot up at most. I know my CMOS battery is dying due to the clock on my computer losing time. Is could that be a problem linked to this?

I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.

It is Windows 7 Home Premium 64.
It is OEM.

Hey guys,

So i've had this build for a few months now. It is my first build. Here are the specs:
Intel Core i5-4690K
Zotac GTX 970
8GB Ram
Asus Z-97-A mobo
Windows 8.1

When i'm playing big games such as BF4 or GTA V, it likes to crash midway through the game constantly. I can play BF4 for a while before it crashes back to the desktop and i cannot play GTA for more than 10 minutes before it does the same. Sometimes these games even causes a BSODr. As well as, Crysis 3 just completely crashes and freezes my computer after a very short time of playing,

Also sometimes when i'm rendering a video in Sony Vegas Pro 13, i get a BSOD too.

I think it may be to do with my graphics card but i just can't quite put my finger on it. My GPU drivers are all updated.

Any ideas?

Hello

I have upgraded my CPU from Core 2 Duo 2.6mhz, to Core 2 Quad Q9500, and I had to upgrade the BIOS for my motherboard before that
MB type: GA-EP35-DS4

Everything worked fine for that, except when I run a game, it takes it about 10 to 12 minutes before it just crash and close itself (with no any error message), currently with:
Deus Ex: HR, Starcraft 2, Minecraft
I only get the error reporter for the games (if they had one) and no useful information I can get from them
I suspected the heat issue, so I bought a new cooler, the heat now in sticking on 37, no more
but still I am having this issue

My configuration are:MB: GA-EP35-DS4
CPU Intel C2Q, Q9500
8 GB RAM (Kingston) (2gb x 4 sticks)
Nvidia GTS 450 (As GPU)
Nvidia 9500 GT (As physix)
1TB HDD WD
320GB HDD WD (for system)
500GB HDD WD
500 watts power supply
Now I am thinking about the power supply, but the thing is everything was OK before, and I did not face any power issues before, all the problems started after I upgraded my bios and CPU

I checked the heat status and voltage status with CPU-Z stuff, but I am not fimiliar with the correct voltage values for RAM and CPU

Any suggestions about the issue?

PS: And the windows was on my computer since Jul 2009, and I would love to keep it from that date, I would not prefer re-installation unless there is no other option)

Regards

Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features3D Vision Control Driver
3D Vision Driver

HD Audio Driver
PhysX
nvidia Update
(Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
Boot normally now. Go to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers, Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:

A:BSOD Crash when in Modern 2016 games such as Fallout 4, and more

The 6/30 9:05PM dump points to xusb22.sys dated 10/30/2015. This belongs to the Microsoft Xbox 360 Common Controller for Windows Driver.
There is an updated driver 6/26/2016 from MS in the upcoming Redstone release scheduled for August 4th I believe.

I don't know if this driver is the actual cause of a problem as normally MS files are not. Usually something else is the actual culprit. In this case I wonder since the XBOX support is still fairly new. Also I don't see anything in any of the dumps I've looked at that point to anything else.

Nothing else useful in the dumps I looked at. Give Driver Verifier a try, see if that flushes out any driver problems:

Driver Verifier is a diagnostic tool built into Windows 10, it is designed to verify both native Microsoft drivers and third party drivers. Driver Verifier's verification process involves putting heavy stress on drivers with the intention of making bad, outdated, incompatible or misbehaving drivers fail. The required result is a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) which will generate a crash dump for debugging purposes.
Machines exposed to Driver Verifier will run very sluggishly due to the stress being applied to the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10

Warning:
It is not advised to run Driver Verifier for more than 48 hours at a time. Disable Driver Verifier after 48 hours or after receiving a BSOD, whichever happens soonest.

Always create a Restore Point prior to enabling Driver Verifier.

This computer is brand new and just over a week old, and when playing a game, upon either tabbing out, or back into the game after having been tabbed out, I sometimes get BSOD. For example, I was playing Metro 2033, then I tabbed out and open Chrome to look up something, then when I tabbed back into the game, I was greeted with a BSOD. Using BluescreenViewer to see the minidump files, the issues seem to be caused by win32k.sys and ntoskrnl.exe. Just wanna figure out why this is happening and I'm worried if it's my hardware. Howdy folks! In the past few days, I have gotten many BSOD's while browsing the web, playing games, or talking to people on Teamspeak 3. Usually the
BSOD/crash hits me usually an hour in while I'm doing those things in a session. Before I did get BSOD's and crashes but they were few and spread out. I never responded to them because they happened very sparsely. Now that they are very constant, I need to do some action. I have went into safe mode right now and am typing this on another computer. Oh and this problem started Saturday, May 7th 2012.

As for the dmp files, I was a noob and didn't have the option for the BSOD crashes to save dmp files but now that that is enabled, I do have one dmp file that I can share.

Also I have noticed that sometimes that when the computer crashes, the sound becomes very distorted, the screen tears/fuzzes into a static-like image and then it just restarts. I either get this kind of crash or just a simple BSOD. Sometimes, the sound just distorts, I see a black screen and then the PC restarts. Not even a distorted image.

I think I tried everything in my knowledge to solve the problem but it still didn't resolve the problems. On the hardware side :
- Switched the memory sticks ;
- Switched the graphic card (my brother has the same one as me and it never failed him. Still it didn't resolve the problems on my computer) ;
- Switched to Marvell SATA controllers then to the 3Gb Intel controllers ;
- Used a USB sound card thinking that it may have something to do with the audio on the motherboard;
- Changed the graphic card slot to the PCI 8X.

On the software side :
- I reinstalled all my drivers using the suggestions made by this site : Easily explore your PC & using also some other softwares like SlimDriver ;

About a week ago I started getting this issue on Firefox: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ

The issue also causes games to crash such as Overwatch and Rocket League which causes a, " Overwatch stopped working in the graphics driver" issue, and can also on some instances cause BSoD.

I also tried to install Fortnite and ran into constant corruption errors and install loops, which is supposedly due to hardware errors or the HDD not being NTFS (Which both are).

I understood this to be a GPU error, however I ran the following tests to rule out any other possibilities:
Undertaken all windows updates both optional and mandatory (Updates are not automatic)
Updated GPU driver + rolled back to various drivers (From 388.13 to 384.94)
Uninstalled recently installed software in-case of conflict
Clean installations of Firefox and Chrome from various versions to beta
Command prompt "sfc /scannow" with no issues
Disabled and enabled hardware acceleration to test both
Ran software in safe-mode to see if it was an extension problem
Changed dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode to true in Firefox
Ran full virus checks on both C and F drives with the results at 100... Read more

Zip of dump files attached. This problem has been happening for approximately three months. I've not changed any hardware in that time. I've been using the same installation and same copy of Windows for approximately two years without issue.

Thanks very much for your help.

A:BSOD code 124 - Games crash to desktop and programs cause BSODs

Code:
Host Name: NEIL-PC
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
OS Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation
OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free
Registered Owner: Neil
Registered Organization:
Product ID: 00426-OEM-8992662-00006
Original Install Date: 18/06/2014, 20:10:40
System Boot Time: 06/04/2015, 18:40:25
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: P55-USB3
Counterfeit installations such as yours contains heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analysing BSOD's and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is very unreliable.

My recommendation is to start with a clean slate, and install a genuine version of Windows. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing, and make subsequent diagnosis of BSOD's far more reliable.

Issues started not long ago when I purchased a new gtx 750 ti graphics card. Get varied Bsod error messages such as video_tdr_failure nvlddmkm.sys, and DPC_Watchdog_violation as well as one or two others. These issues present themselves upon starting of certain games. Specifically first person shooters but is rarely a problem for my most played game League of Legends. Very easily replicate-able as it happens everytime i start said games. Starts out as odd stretched lines and screen disturbances (spasm like textures and light shafts in game) and then black screen with sound followed by either display kernel crash message of my video driver or complete computer shutdown.

Also included below is a DxDiag system info save file.

Ok . I am getting random system lockups, can happen anytime. Sometimes using when using chrome or just on desktop. Happens most often when windows is on login screen, or sometime right before windows loads. Playing any game I have will cause crash to desktop. Crash time varies from game loading screen to playing game for a few minutes.

So far I have reinstalled windows 3 times. I have replaced motherboard because it crashed during bios update, thus ruining mobo, tried different power supply also. After installing windows I have installed latest drivers that I could find, didnt seem to make any difference from the drivers that were loaded when windows was first installed. I did notice that after I installed pc matic I got constant BSOD, So I uninstalled it. fewer BSOD But still have lockups and game crashes.

I have ran memtest for 24 hours with no errors, also ran tests on ssd and hdd drives with no errors.
I should have the files attached to this post.
AMD fx9370
asus m5a99fx pro 2.0
16 gb ram
Amd radeon R9 200
sandisk 120gb ssd
toshiba 2Tb drive
LG dvd drive

A:System lockups, BSOD, games crash. errors vary.

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

Uninstall Daemon ToolsDownload the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
Double click the executable to open itClick on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

Please uninstall ASUS software, it is known for causing bluescreens.

Diagnostics Test

 Clean boot

Please try the following:
Open taskmanager
Go to the tab startupdisable everythingSearch msconfig and open it
Go to the tab servicesCheck 'hide microsoft services'Uncheck all other servicesClick apply and click okReboot if asked
See if the problem persist, if the problem does not persist enable in the startup tab in taskmanager 1 item and in the services tab in msconfig also 1 service, reboot and see if the problem persist. Keep doing this until you find the culprit or there is nothing left.
If the problem still persist, try booting in safe mode and see if the problem still persist

Hello, everyone. I just got back to my PC after a my first year of college, and when I first started it up it bluescreened. I didn't manage to catch the error before it rebooted, then changed to a black screen said that there was no hard disk to boot with.
So I turned it off, turned it back on, and it booted just fine. I ran a full system scan with Avast to check for malware, updated some games on Steam, and basically did my best to get my computer up to speed since it had been off for so long (while I did use it during long breaks). While the Avast scan was running I played World of Warcraft for about an hour or two, and bam--another bluescreen. The error message said something along the lines of "Display drivers failed to restart," but again I couldn't catch the rest because it rebooted, coming up with the same black screen as before. So I turned it off.
When I booted it up for a third time Avast opened almost immediately and asked to restart my computer and run a scan of the startup files. So I obliged; it seemed like it scanned my whole system again, which lasted for an hour or two, and it seems like it moved Malwaregen and corrupted files to the chest. When it was done my computer booted normally. I installed some Windows updates and a new Nvidia driver, figuring that something was outdated, and once again started playing World of Warcraft. This time it didn't bluescreen; instead, the screen froze after ten minutes and turned a solid color. My PC rebooted almos... Read more

A:BSOD ten minutes after starting games, now crash after driver update

Try any other driver version and see how it goes. Uninstall the installed display driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. Then install the NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce Game Ready Driver WHQL

When done, stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark. Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Take a screenshot of the furmark window before closing it. Upload the screenshot for us. Also let us know if you have experienced any crash/BSOD and/or artifacts during the test.

Also, Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .
