Yoga 730-13IKB Laptop (ideapad) - Type 81CT Screen Flicker (recall needed)

Q: Yoga 730-13IKB Laptop (ideapad) - Type 81CT Screen Flicker (recall needed)

Good evening I am hoping that we as a community can get this issue solved. Lenovo must do a recall on the Yoga 730 for the very clear and apparent screen flicker problem that has affected 100s and possibly 1000s of people. This is an obvious design flaw that causes the hinge design to cause stress on the display cable attached to the motherboard. I have called Lenovo support but because the warranty is past (of course) they cannot do anything. If this was a random issue it would make sense. But since this is a very common issue that warrants some form of recall I must share my frustration as the Yoga 730-13IKB Laptop (ideapad) - Type 81CT is othewise a fine computer. Join me in calling for an official response from Lenovo so that they will fix this problem that is clearly their fault. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Looking for the part number and where I can buy a screen replacement for my Yoga 920-13IKB Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80Y7. Screen cracked (touch no longer working) and I cannot seem to find anywhere online showing the replacement part. Have called many repair places and they cannot find as well. Welcome to forums.

Have you tried parts lookup and then Lenovo Encompass store?  Don't post you serial number online.  If you input at the parts lookup site you  should be able to confirm the part number.  I input just generic 920-13ikb at parts lookup.

I'm not saying price is great but they do have it at Encompass store.

I have been suffering with the screen flicker mentioned in a number of other posts.  However I have had the sense that it was not related to hardware.  The reason being that any moving of the screen or tapping of the screen joint would not cause any change in the flciker. I took the back off and tried the fix that is shown on YouTube but then a few days later the same issue was apparent. Then I caught that it seems to be related to Firefox.  A tab for BBC news had the flicker, a different tab did not. It also seemed to be related to only a section of the webpage that was open, as scrolling would stop the flciker.  Chrome on the same page did not flicker.  Even in window mode the Firefox tab flickered and would do so with Task Manager open. All drivers are current and all software up to date. I turned off the Hardware acceleration in Firefox and the tab was fine after.  That said I have seen the issue in another app so I wonder if it is a fault with using the video memory sharing or something like that.  Either way I wish Lenovo would be more proactive in trying to resolve the issue.

I got a red x next to my speaker with the error "no audio output device is installed".  I reviewed this solution (https://support.lenovo.com/it/en/solutions/ht501860) and uninstalled and re-installed the driver accordingly (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/it/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-910-13ikb/download... I also checked for updates after the installation. While the driver worked after the initial restart, I found that sometimes it would stop working.  A few times I was able to get it to work again by just re-starting the PC.  Then it stopped working again.  When I check device manager, the sound driver comes up under "other devices". And the red x next to the speaker is back, and re-booting the PC has not helped. Please help.

Dear Community, first of all thank you for reading and maybe answering this. Like all of you who bought the Yoga 910, i had the bad luck to expierence the loud fan noise. After reading and searching for hours (in communities and several Youtube-Channels) i finally installed the BIOS that solved the problem (I don't know exactly which one it was, maybe the 2JCN39WW). I also reduced the max performance of the processor from 100 to 99 percent. It all worked perfectly. Sometimes i heard a little bit of fan noise when i was working on heavier stuff or when the battery charger was plugged.  After almost 2 years without further problems i installed the latest version of Windows 10 (1903). Unfortunately this was a big mistake! The fan starts with every programm/app i open up. When the battery charger is plugged in, it won't even stop. When i look at the data from the task-manager (while the fan noise is very loud) neither the CPU ( I7-7500U), nor the RAM (16GB) or the GPU (HD Graphics 620) will reach something near 95%, but the fan screams like i'm killing this device.I couldn't go back to the previous Windows version, because i waited for too long. The only thing i can do rightnow is to unistall it, but i prefer to wait for a helping answer from you (or mabye a new BIOS version). Have a nice week and best regards,Biond  sorry for my bad english.......

I am a very frustrated and angry customer at the moment as i keep running into Road Block and unacceptable answers.  This issue is enough to cause me to never buy another Lenovo laptop or any laptop at Best Buy!I bought my computer in July and in September i noticed a key had popped off-  the "< ," key next to the M key.  I have used the key board only when i was setting up-  now at my office and at customers i set it in downward dog mode ;-) and use a blue tooth key board.    So it is not from use that it broke.   I took the laptop into BEST BUY and was told that the key was missing a metal part on the back so they could not fix it onsite-  i would have to send it in and be without my laptop for a week to 10 days - unacceptable -  this was a month or more ago. I searched on the LENOVO website and could not find a way to purchase a single or the entire set of Keys!  I am self employed as a software consultant.   My life is pretty busy and i finally decided today to bite the bullet and ask for a call from Lenovo support.  Again i am told the only way to fix this is to send my laptop in for a repair.  I asked to just be able to buy a KEY - i am told that well they do not sell individual keys - they would replace the entire keyboard!  So sell me the keyboard and or send me one an i will take into best buy to have them replace it while i wait.  They cannot do that.   I live... Hi, I recently bought a Yoga 500-14ISK Laptop (ideapad) - Machine Type 80R5 and have used it extremely rarely. I would say I've used it at a maximum of 30-40 hours. I have had some problems with the laptop but nothing that made it completely un-usable until now. On turning on the machine, the network wireless adapter acts strangely, often showing the airplane mode symbol in the task bar. I may or may not be able to connect to my Wifi network but less than 2 minutes later the entire Wifi adapter disappears from the OS, no longer having Wifi settings or being able to configure the Adapter via device manager. I've been told a fix for this may be turning the wireless off and on again via the BIOS but I can't figure out how I access it, considering the first screen I see is the loading symbol for Windows 10. Anyone got any advice? Harrison

Hello, I have a pretty new Yoga 920-13IKB.  The USB Type A port just stopped working out of the blue yesterday.  I tried the normal stuff like deleting the usb entries in device manager, disabling fastboot and trying different devices, but nothing is recognized.  I have a USB C to USB A adapter and when I plug a USB A device into the laptop via the USB C port/adapter, that does work fine.  The USB A port does charge my phone though, so it's not totally dead. Anything else I can check on the software side?  It certainly seems like a hardware issue to me. As far as warranty support, I do have Microcenter nearby.  How does support with them work?  It looks like the USB A assembly is a separate board and is not part of the motherboard, so that should be easily replaceable.  Does Microcenter carry parts like that or do they still send it out for that? Thanks!

The backlight on my keyboard has been inoperable for sometime. Using the function key and pressing space does not work to turn the backlight on as it used to. The problem does not seem to be hardware related as the caps lock key still has an operational backlight when depressed, but the rest of the keyboard will not light up. I have tried installing bios to correct the problem, I have navigated through the installed Lenovo apps to no avail. I suspect that this problem started as a result of a Windows update some time ago, but am not sure exactly when this started.

Hi all,I bought the laptop mentioned in the subject of this post in August 2019... Everything's good on the first months, battery was around 5 to 6 hours (I never expected to have 10 hours).Suddenly, since last month it get worse. Now it last less than 2 hours, after a full charge, with the screen brightness at 50%, almost no load on CPU, Battery saver on. What's wrong? Sounds weird that something happend to the cells after only 2 months of use... I attach the battery report from Windows so you can get better what I mean (battery life estimates at the end of the page). Just to be clear, I already tried to "calibrate" the battery (full discharge on battery, and full recharge while powered off) and the problems is still there, maybe worse than before. Help me out please, is still an awesome laptop, but it's useless with 2 hours battery...

Hi, I am an Englishman living in Bulgaria. I am no spring chicken and more of a computer user than a technician so am limited in what I can do albiet, I can follow simple instructions, but I have most probably already tried every 'fix' I could find on the Internet and the Touchpad is completely unresponsive and yet, an external USB Mouse works just fine. I had to have Windows 10 Home Version 1903 unistalled and intalled again today to solve a non-responsive Taskbar search failure as I had no search anywhere working and that resolved that issue, but not the completely dead greyed out Touchpad. Clicking between F6 for on/off does nothing, just shows me a greyed out unresponsive Touchpad. This Laptop is still under gaurantee for another 33 days, but I would prefer to try and resolve this myself IF POSSIBLE. This Laptop was being used by someone else, I understand that they had Touchpad problems and used an external Mouse, but I hadn't realised it was this bad until I got the Laptop back yesterday and couldn't even move the cursor until I plugged in the USB external Mouse. I have another smaller Yoga where the same Mouse and Touchpad work in tandem no problem, but I can get nothing on this 720. So, what is the fix, I have tried about everything I could find and follow on the Internet and as I said at the outset, I am no spring chicken, a Computer User and not a Technician so need careful step by step guidance in trying to resolve this problem before going completely mad and retur... Hi everyone, I have a very unfortunate situation. Over the last couple of weeks my 18 month old $1650 USD Lenovo Yoga 910 (i7 7500U, 512GB, 16GB) started showing signs of hardware failure. It started with an intermitant USB disconnect and reconnect noise while my mouse was plugged in. I switched to a bluetooth mouse and everything seemed to be working properly. A couple days later the laptop started crashing (turning off randomly without proper shutdown). I made sure to install all drivers and updates off the Lenovo site. These installed succesfully. I also installed Lenovo Solution Center and ran updates there. These did not seem to help, and my laptop is crashing very frequently now and will not turn on via the power button. It will randomly turn on by itself 10-30 minutes later. Basically a beautiful paperweight now.I took it to a local computer repair shop as recommended by the lovely Lenovo support technician who told me it was out of warranty and they can't do anything to help. (What kind of company does not support their premium line of laptops that fail before 2 years of use!!)The local repair man tried to reset the motherboard CMOS as per Lenovo precedures. Also checked event logs to determine the cause (could not determine from there). The laptop seemed to be doing better after taking it home. However after some time it ended up crashing again... and again. The computer repair man thinks the motherboard needs replacing, and he says... Read more

Hey there, after hours of tinkering and countless threads with no obvious answer I have managed to install Ubuntu 18.04 in UEFI mode. Touchpad and Active pen (v1) work. Onscreeen keyboard pops on touch input, keyboard lock in tablet mode and screen ratation work as well. Many of you asked these questions without answers. Thank you nameless developers who made it work.  It's not a definite guide. I want to show you how I did it. I will make it short, it will be chaotic enough. I will not cover the basics and assume you are starting from windows 10. 1) To create USB installer get Rufus. I have used 3.0 USB pendrive, Kingston Datatraveler 100 G3. During Rufus configuration set partition scheme to GPT. When you are ready click start. Window will pop, choose ISO.2) Get to the UEFI configuration in Windows 10. Under Configuration tab select SATA setting to AHCI (It will brick your windows 10, there are guides about it if you care). Go further to Secutity tab and select "Reset to Setup Mode". Go to Boot tab and set it to Legacy Support.3) F10, select whatever and your Live version or insaller should start.4) After you finish the installation you can paste in[ -d /sys/firmware/efi ] && echo "EFI boot on HDD" || echo "Legacy boot on HDD"to check if your system is using UEFI.5) If the output was positive you can now go to the UEFI again and select "UEFI Only" boot option.systemctl reboot --firmware-setup Happy lurking,Rudenick

Having an issue with my X1 Yoga  riinning Win10 64-bit and all firmware & drivers are up to date. I often plug in an HDMI screen to my machine and when I do and step away for a few mins the screen goes blank to save power etc. When I return and click these or hit a key the backlight on the laptop comes back on but no image is displayed on either the laptop nor the HDMI monitor. If I unplug the HDMI cable then the laptop screen comes back perfectly and then I can plug the HDMI back in and get the image back on my larger monitor. This seems much different issue then the "blank screen" I read up on and appears to be a detecing from sleep state issue in the driver etc. Anyone else have this? Any fixes for this as I'm plugging the HDMI in/out/in 5 times a day or more... This never occured in the past so appears to be an update issue.

Hi, I have a problem with the screen of my laptop. Everytime, after I shut down and restart my laptop, i can see a flickering on the bottom right corner of the screen that stays there for over 2 hours and then gradually disapears. Its worth mentioning that if I look closely to the flickering part of the screen, I can also see a shadow of the desktop image (image just before the restarting of the laptop) kinda printed on top of the new one. The flickering is even worse when the system does an automatic update and then restarts. Please note that the flickering happens always after restarting the laptop and it goes away gradually if the screen remains on. This is my first topic. Excuse me if i make any mistake and thank you in advance for any help.
