Network Problem

Q: Network Problem

Hello This is my first time posting and my last resort.  I'm having an issue with connectivity on my vista ultimate desktop. My wifi works fine but my desktop computer keeps losing connection at different times.
I have tried the following Changed the modem
                                          Changed the router
                                          Changed all the cables
                                           Reset the Winsock
                                           Flushed DNS Cache
                                           Renew Refresh
Changed the Sleep settings in the network properties
                                          Turned off autotuning
                                           Changed the Flow Control
When i go to the little icon in the notification area and diagnose it constantly says found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically but when i diagnose the lan in the network folder it says no problem found Try and reset the network. I have done so and this does not work.
I've taken it to a computer guy they can't seem to see anything wrong. They gave me an old network adapter and I could not get the drivers to load. Is this possible it was an old card for an older system
Pro 200 WL. Took the card back out may need to try again with a newer card. Someone had told me that it's possible vista has a fail safe when the download is to much it shuts down called flooding or something. i don't know if thats true.
Any assistance on this matter would be appriciated before i go and buy a new network card. Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So i'm having an issue connecting my desktop to my home network for file sharing. My Desktop is connected to the internet like so: Desktop ->(Ethernet cable)-> Uverse 2wire router -> Internet.

I have no issues with my internet connection, and in fact I am posting this from my desktop now. Windows Network Diagnostics finds no issues when I run the trouble shooter. and when I try to connect to a home group it refers me to the network issue.

This issue has plagued me for about 6 months now. I have talked to Uverse tech support, and many of my friends who are into computers and have gotten no answers. Computer is running windows 7 SP1 and again the router is the Uverse 2wire router

How can I make my desktop available for network sharing?

Also here is a screenshot of the network map according to this computer

Hi peeps, here's a seemingly unsolvable problem I have:

I want to network my two PCs (An Acer Vista Laptop and my old HP XP Desktop) so that I can play network games (Operation Flashpoint).

So I connect them both wirelessly to the router (a cheap SWEEX one). Now when Iook on my Vista Laptop's Network place I can see the Laptop I'm using the router (and can access it's page and everything) but I can't see my XP desktop from here. And when I go into the Desktop's network places I can't see the router or either of the computers I'm using.

And I assume that this network problem is why I can't see a server in my game.

Now I understand that file and printer sharing is turned, the firewall is definately turned off and I think the appropriate services are turned on (well to make sure I turned every single service on ) There must be some more complex reason why my XP hates to network!

Although I am by no means a noob to general computing I am reasonably new to networking. Can you clever lot help me?

So im at a complete loss here....

I have a windows 7 pro x86 computer that out of the blue stopped connecting to its network drives. I tried a few things like flushing the dns, re-registering, new IP finally I decided to rejoin it to the domain, big mistake. The computer couldn't contact the domain controller even though all the info was correct. I ended up doing a restore to the week prior updated the NIC drivers and everything seemed to be working.

The following day it happened again I tried the same few fixes and the solution this time was to uninstall all the hidden devices under the network adapter, after a reboot I got into the drives just fine. Now everytime the user shuts his computer down he gets this same problem. My boss ran into the same problem on another machine the other day so Im hesitant to restore, I would prefer a fix in case this shows up again.

The computer can get online and use our email through outlook but network resources are all gone. The machine can also ping all of the servers but wont connect with \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP or \\servername\share even with credentials entered.

Ive looked all over with no success.

A:Very strange problem connecting to network drives / network.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

If it's now happening to another computer, I'd unplug the router and switch(es) for 20 to 30 seconds. Also, check on your computer's Security or Firewall programs installed, make sure that they are up to date and not blocking the ports and network resources. You may try disabling the program(s) temporarily for debugging purpose.

An update will be nice.

I have installed server 2003 on a small network and created a domain that is the same as the public domain name (ie the companies website).

This is now causing a problem because when i type in the public address (for example www.company.com) it is trying to resolve it locally - because the local domain name is also company.com.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get round this problem?

Many thanks in advance

A:problem with the local network having the same domain name as the public network

add 'local.' to the internal domain or change it altogether.

Your public domain should not have any connection into your private infrastructure,
but you may have references from private->public; not very common.

I have a Linksys BEFSR81 router and a Linksys WAP54G connected to it. I recently installed a Linksys Network Storage Link NSLU2 to the network with a Maxtor One Touch HD. I have been able to map the new network drive to my computer that is connected to the router, but I'm unable to map the drive on my second computer that is connected to the network via the AP. However I can ping the Linksys NAS from my wireless computer.

A:Mapping Network Drive on Wireless Network Problem

like most NAS devices, the Linksys nslu2 has built in security administered through a web browser. You probably need to create a user acount for the wirelessly-attached computer, either by machine name, IP address, user id, or some combination of the above. You may also have to grant permission to the user or user group for the specific share you are trying to map. hope this helps.

I added a printer to my network (hp c5180) via ethernet cable. But problem accords when I try to map a network location (card reader 5in1 or sth like that, is used to read SD, xD, ms cards used in cameras) from which I d like to copy images, files in explorer without extra software from HP. After I installed drivers for printer, it automatically map a network location but when I try to open it or connect to that location I get an error:

"Access code is invalid"
The network path is "\\\Memory_card"
I copied this link in to my internet browser (in this case its g Chrome) and I was able to connect to the network location:

Its strange because all of XP based computers can easily connect, problem is only with windows 7 based computers.
Somewhere I found that this could be repaired with changing: (below)

1. Open the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel
2. Open the Local Security Policy
3. Select the Security Option under Local Policies
4. Choose Send LM & NTLM responses in Network security: LAN

or in reg:

In Windows 7, we can set the following Registry key ?HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel? to ?1?.

But this solutions dont work in my case.

Does somebody know hot to fix this and what is causing it??

Hello, i am new here on the forum. Im looking for any gentle help i can get here from you guys who might be able to figure out my problem.
For some time ago (around 1 month) ive been having problems with my internet from time to time which include a really slow responding or sending into the internet. It is so that sometimes my ping goes up above 200ms and stays there for a quite some time (maybe an hour or more). I check my ping using cmd and typing "ping ping.sunet.se". I can also feel that the delay is huge when playing online games, so there is deffenitly something wrong with the sending and responding. Also when i check my connection in mb/s using some homepages that calculates it, like "bredbandskollen.se" (a swedish page). And here i see that the mb/s speed is prefectly fine (around 7mb/s recieving and 0.4-0.1mb/s sending). Not sure if the sending speed is accepting thou. And when my internet is busy, like when i am streaming something or things like that, my responding speed gets a bit better like 150ms, thou when my internet is doing fine and works as it should i usually stay around 20ms ^^ so something must be wrong.
Now i woundering what might cause my internet troubeling. Any thoughts would be great, thanks!

I got help to a BSOD problem in the crashes and bugs forum. Impressed with the help i received i was hoping to get help for a network issue ive had for a while.

I am using a cablet connection with my Zyxcel P2602 HWT modem. The modem/router is provided by my internet provider. It also supports a wireless connection.

When i start my computer both the connections is fine. After a while though the cabled connection is said to be unidentified. It works as a local connection, but has no internet access. When i run the diagnoses for the connection it again recognize the network and its working fine for a while until the same happens.

I tried upgrading the driver without luck. The version now says Atheros AR8121/AR88113/AR88114 PCI-E ethernet Controller (NDIS6.20
Driver date: 11.06.2009

If there is information needed ill be happy to provide.

Hello DonkrDjay, welcome to SF!

As a test, can you check what IP number your router gives you (through its DHCP server i hope) when it works well?
Then when it stops working... is it still the same or did you get a totally different IP for your PC?

Second, if posible, could you post snips of your router DHCP settings?

I recently had a computer that crashed and had to be rebuilt. Now that it is back up and running, Im having problems with mapping network drives. Specifically, two maps that were previously working.

If I go to my network places, all of the shares are present from all computers. I can get into all of them, except for two, both on the same computer. (on a windows XP pro) (the rebuild is also windows xp pro)

\\computer1\apps is not accessible. you may not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is Denied.

I checked the folders, both show access to everyone. I can access them from another computer. Simple file sharing is turned off on all computers. I can ping all computers, and vice versa. Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.

any ideas?

let me know if you need more information, I can get whatever is needed.

I have an interesting problem that has been driving some pretty smart IT guys nuts. To perform my job I have to access a certain venders web pages that has security set up that I do not know all the details of. Anyway on the company PC using the company image that is a normal XP image and maintained by Comp U Com.

Any time I access this vender's web page it works fine until just after the log in screen. Once I put in my user name and password and click Ok IE just goes blank white and that's it. No error msg no nothing, its not locked up as the frame is still there and the world is turning but nothing else.

This happens on all the company PCs accessing this particular vender's web page as I went and checked. So I wanted to see if it the problem was in the PC or the network. I took the company PC home and was able to successfully log into that vender's web page from my cable modem at that house. Worked fine.

I have already added the vender web pages to the trusted zone and enabled all the active X and everything, deleted the cookies, tried some proxies etc. Every setting that can be done on the PC I have tried.

My question is what is the company network security system blocking that IE needs to work and how to resolve?

Oh and to add this I loaded FireFox and from the company PC on the company network it logs in fine but FireFox will not display the page correctly and all the buttons do not work right so that is another issue.

For 2 years, My XP computer has had no problems picking up 10-20 wireless connections in my neighborhood, some i could connect to,some i could not because they were secured.

i decided to go straight , and purchase DSL.

i bought a new computer(vista) and got a westell 327 DSL modem, which is also a wireless router. The new computer is working fine, i called Verizon to set up the new computer's dsl wireless network, that worked out fine.

My old computer, the one i spoke about opening this thread, that computer immediately picked up the DSL signal from my new computer in the other room.. The signal was excellent and the name of the network WAS ON THE LIST of the dozen other wireless connections i could connect to. Problem is when i went to connect to my own DSL network, i got this error message:

"Limited or no connectivity
You might not be able to access the internet or some network resource. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer."

I typed in the correct password, the little icon in the corner of my computer said both computers were connected, and with an excellent signal strength. Reiterating: i could still connect and go online with the other avaiable networks running the computer, but not my own.

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.
please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum. I am hoping someone maybe able to help me diagnose and fix the problem with this problem. I have a problem with Acer Aspire One Network Adapter. The problem is that the netbook will connect to the internet and will have full bars for internet connectivity. Then a few minutes later it will just disconnect on it's own! I can usually reconnect by going on the Network & Sharing Center, then going into Diagnose problems, then clicking on Network Adapter, then after it resets, it will usually reconnect to the Internet, but lately it won't reconnect! I then have to restart the netbook. The netbook is running Windows 7 Starter, and it has Atheros AR5BXB63 Network Adapter. My friend who is a computer person searched online to confirm if the drivers were up to date, said that was not the problem. I would like any advise anyone can give me to see if this netbook can be fixed before I have to buy another! Please advise?

Hi everyone

I need to see if anyone has a solution to my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and my granddaughter has a Dell Inspiron i15-157B. I added her laptop to our wireless network (Linksys wireless-G broadband router model WRT54GS). Everything works fine as long as she's here in our home, but when she goes home and we try to connect our webcams through Yahoo Messenger, I can see and hear her just fine. She can see me but can't hear me. Why would it work here and not there? I'm wondering if it's something with our home network.

Her laptop at home is connected directly to the internet, but they will be setting up a wireless router also. We both use Vista.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you getting any 'link light' on the card you plug the cable into? Usually a little green light or Amber I think it is on Dell. If you are not I suggest trying a different cable from your modem to your PC.

Also, is your PC directly connected to the modem or into a router?

And when setting your IP address are you going to Start --> Control Panel --> Network Connections?

PCs are Win 7 Ultimate, All are joined to the Domain
Domain Controller, DNS, DHCP Server (on same instance) is Server 2012 standard
The network topology is like this: Router as Internet Gateway>Switch>Wired to Server and PC's, SIP phones, and Wireless Access Point all on same subnet. DNS and DHCP have been offloaded to Server Roles and switched off on the router.
All of the PCs have network cards that have joined the domain network at least some of the time since I set them up.
Some of them have always picked up the domain network and continue to this day.
Some of them intermittently pick up the domain network and other times join whatever other unmanaged network is available.
Some of them have stopped picking up the domain network altogether and will, no matter how many times their NICs are restarted, always join a non-domain (unmanaged) network.
When the NICs are not joining the domain, they are unable to ping hostnames of any devices on the network but nslookup of the hostnames usually works. The DC, DNS, DHCP server's IP can be pinged without issue, ipv4 or ipv6.
I am recording DNS Client Errors (ID 1014) on all of the PCs during the intervals when their NICs are identifying which network to join.

-On the PCs that are catching the domain network I am only getting a single error about the root domain, eg the domain is ad.domain.com and I am only getting errors about how the configured DNS servers cannot resolve domain.com (nothing with fully qualified

I've been stung by the em.gad-netwrok.com pop-ups, I think since a couple of weeks back when my son decided it'd be a good idea to download and install a 'free' classic games link thing... anyway, I've tried everything you guys have recommended here, as well as traipsing through a bunch of other similar forums. To no avail. The bastid keeps on poppin' up...And just before I post my Hijack This log, how come someone hasn't blasted this as part of an anti-virus, ad-aware, microsoft update type fix? Is it me, or is it not a bit weird that there seems to be no mention of this thing anywhere 'official'...?Anyway, here's the log - and obviously any help hugely appreciated.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 17:04:05, on 19/03/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16414)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SVCHOST.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\arservice.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files&... Hello Boom3, I am SifuMike and I will be helping you. Please download F-Secure Blacklight (blbeta.exe) and save to your C:\ drive. 1. Open a command window by going to Start > Run and typing: cmd 2. Copy/paste or type the following in the command window: C:\blbeta.exe /expert 3. Hit "Enter" to start the program and then close the cmd box. 4. Accept the user agreement and click "Next". 5 Click "Scan". 6. After the scan is complete, click "Next", then "Exit". BlackLight will create a log in C:\ drive named "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan). 7. The log will have a list of all items found. Do not choose to rename any yet! I want to see the log first because legitimate items can also be present...like "wbemtest.exe". 8. Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply. Note: If you download Blacklight to your desktop, just double-click to run from there and it will create the "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" on your desktop. Post back with the BlackLight log and a new HijackThis log.

I have been using windows media player 11 to share files with my 360 for awhile. today the network service (wmpnetwk.exe) started eating 100% cpu. i've researched as deep as i can and know its something microsoft upddated. Disabling network sharing solves the problem, but i use this function daily and can't imagine living without it. I guess i could use zune, but like wmp11 and its features. If anyone knows a specific reason for the extreme memory usage, or how i can stop it, please reply!

A:WMP network problem?

Go to Start then click Run. Type services.msc in the Run line, then find the windows media networking. It will be on automatic, change it to manual and reboot. Right now I'm streaming to the PS3 working online, and have a couple of other windows open. My computer is just a single core department store low end thing. You may want to disable media sharing in WMP first as that is what I did. If you are running Vista I believe the run line is available in the classic start menu or can be added to the new one through the properties menu, but best ask someone who has Vista. CPU currently 0-25%, and not because wmpnetwk.exe is doing anything

I just bought a hp a6130n computer, equiped with vista home premium 64-bit, and an nvidia nforce network controller. Whenever I attempt to download files from the internet, I get disconnected from the internet, and my network. My network status flashes back and forth between a red X and a triangular yellow shield with an ! in it. When I attempt to diagnose and repair, it says that a network cable is unplugged. I have tested the cable, and it is perfectly fine, and there is no tampering with it at all whatsoever during downloading. The problem is fixed when I restart my computer, but I cannot download anything using internet explorer (things like updates from blizzard work okay). Lastly, I preformed a hardware diagnostic (which was given all passes), and a ping command, which timed out to any website I tried. Please help!

I set up a server and 2 workstations with xp pro on all machines.
One of the stations is a laptop from which I can't access the window directory or program files on either the server or the other workstation. I get a "denied access. not authorized" message. All systems have been installed exactly the same thru the network wizard. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can share individual folders ,make sure you add each workstation as a user on the server under /control panel /admin tools / computer management. you can even add your work group name . You can also create a new share on the servers main drive from the drives prpoerties . Also make sure you have installed all network services on all PCs from the add/ remove windows componets list

I have a very weired network problem , i really don't know what's wrong , I have a network that contains 5 clients and 1 server , all of them are using windows xp professional , including the server , they are connecting to a switch and there is a software for internet sharing on the server .

Everything was working perfect since today morning when suddenly the internet disconnected from the client pc's and they couldn't access it again , i've checked the internet sharing software and found that everything is fine , also checked the cable and found that it's also fine .

then i tried to ping a client pc from the server and found no response , tried to ping the server from the client pc and found a response , also clients can't ping each other , it shows the request time out message .

so now , every client can ping the server , but the server can't ping them ! , also they can't ping each other .

but when i click network neighborhood i can browse the files on the clients machines without any problem .

can you please tell me how can i fix this or what's the problem? the internet sharing software that i'm using is called allegrosurf .

please help !

A:network problem

Not being able to ping the machines sounds like a firewall issue, 99% of the time, that's the reason for failure to respond to a ping. Perhaps you can tell us what firewall products you use all around?

Can you access the Internet from the server? I'm not familiar with allegrosurf, so I'm not sure about configuration, but it seems that would be the place to start with a common failure.

Hey I have no idea how this happened.

I was having internet connection problems so I goto 'network connections' in control panel, I right clicked and disabled internet, then unplugged modem and then restarted the computer.

After reboot I go back to network connections, but the page is blank. I cannot see any icons to click to re-enable the connection.

Im using another computer atm, broken one uses Windows XP Pro. Let me know if you need any more info.

I tried everything on the microsoft site that seems related to no avail. Only thing I havent tried is a driver uninstall/reinstall, because I do not have a CD or floppy that I can find for the network card which is a VIA rhine II fast ethernet adapter, not sure if it means anything but in device manager I have to show hidden devices to be able to see network devices, iI believe the network card is 'VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter - Packet Scheduler Miniport '. It says its working properly.

Also theres a bunch of other options besides the 'VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter - Packet Scheduler Miniport ', like 'Direct Parallel Port', 'WAN Miniport (IP)', 'WAN Miniport (PPOE)', etc. On this computer the network devices are not hidden and theres only 1 thing listed under network devices.

Hello... Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Problem: Unable to connect to the internet thru router

Hardware: Motorola Modem, Netgear N-300 WNR2000v3 router, Dell Vostro 470

History: The above listed hardware configuration worked for internet access until I bought a new Dell for my dad. Actually, it worked for about 10 minutes (as I downloaded some anti-virus software and Win 7 updates). After I downloaded and installed the Windows 7 security updates(46 to be exact), I could not get access again. Would rolling back the updates(or going to a restore point) be advisable? If so, how would I do that in Win 7. My computer at home is XP, so I don't have much knowledge of Win 7. What's kind of weird is that my mom's computer, which is also connected(wired, not wireless) to the same router works.

Any help would be appreciated.

"The laptop does comunicate with the router ..."

You can ping the router? Can you ping a web site by IP address?

How about posting an ipconfig /all for the laptop (when connected to the router).

Well here goes, couldn't find my answer searching:
I'm running Vista Home basic 64bit sp1. My Network icon displays a red-x, and when I mouseover it I get "Connection Status: unknown Server execution failed". If I try to enable Network Discovery I get this error message: "No such interface supported" and then a system message "Network Store Interface Service has stopped working". So I can't see anything or anyone on our network(three other computers connected all running XP) however I have no problem connecting to the internet.

Need more info let me know

Thanks in advance for any help

Are we talking about the computer that is connected to your router or one that is wireless. You may not have your security set for discovery and file shareing. Is your firewall on. If so temporarly turn it of and see if you still have the problem.

I'm experiencing a problem on Windows 8. I'm trying to execute a .bat file located in a shared folder (on another pc that runs Windows Vista), and i'm receiveing errors. First, when i tried to execute the file, shows an error saying that cmd doesn't recognize the command. Then, i managed to mount that folder as a virtual drive, and that error got away. But when i try to access the program, an installation error pop up.

The curious thing is that if i execute the program directly from this pc, there is no trouble at all. But i need to connect to the other pc, because ths program needs to be uptaded every minute (this program manage the book shop where i work at).

p.s.: Sorry for my bad english

A:CMD network problem

How are you accessing the bat file on the other PC?

You can mount the shared folder via net use:

>net use /?
The syntax of this command is:

[devicename | *] [\\computername\sharename[\volume] [password | *]]
[/USER:[dotted domain name\]username]
[/USER:[[email protected] domain name]

NET USE {devicename | *} [password | *] /HOME

So net use z: \\Otherpcname\sharedfoldername then z:\xxxx.bat should work.

Or run the bat file via a UNC name:

\\Otherpcname\sharedfoldername\xxxxx.bat should work.

If not, what are the exact, complete error you receive.

Hi all. I recently purchased a laptop (Inspiron 6400 w/1390 wireless mini-card) and I'm trying to set up a wireless network at home. For various reasons I'd prefer not to go the router path right now, so I thought I'd set up an ad hoc network with my desktop (both machines are on XP). Using the reference from Microsoft's knowledge base - seemed easy enough - I bought a USB wireless adapter for the desktop (Zyxel G-202) and followed the MS directions to the letter.

Well, while there were a few hiccups I managed to get the settings as described using XP's config utility rather than the vendor's. Ad hoc network is set up, ICS activated, ZoneAlarm turned down to medium for the internet zone. Problem is, I can't get the lappy to recognize the network - it just isn't showing up. I'm no expert, but I have tried all the obvious fixes, no luck.

So... Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm sure it must be something infuriatingly simple, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

Thanks - Dan

I have a home network consisting of three computers and a HP Mediasmart server.

The problem is that I can not ping my XP computer from my Windows 7 computer, however I do have access to my Mediasmart server via the network from this XP computer.

I can ping my Windows 7 computer from my XP computer, and I can access files on the Windows 7 computer from the XP computer.

I recently installed the program Spybot, and I am not sure is this program is the cause of this problem, or not.

Does anyone have any suggestions for correcting this problem.
