Preferred Solution: Power Manager has stopped working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm not sure what has happened but the Windows task manager opens for a split second then closes. I suspect there's something running that is closing it. I also have the same problem then I try to Run regedit or msconfig. I have included my logfile, but I'm not sure what to look for. What happens if you change the color scheme or change the Theme temporarily? If it's okay then you can set it back up the way you like it.

Creative Sync Manager (ctsyncu.exe) has stopped working

I have a Creative Zen 16 MB player. It comes with a bunch of software, including Creative Sync Manager. For about a year it worked fine. It loads when Windows loads. Then all of sudden, a few days ago, it stopped working. It crashes every time I start Windows, and also when I try to start it by itself.

I get the following error message:

Faulting application ctsyncu.exe, version, faulting module ctsyncu.exe, version, fault address 0x0002f908.

Here is the Error Data:

This happened right after I uninstalled a couple of security programs (expired Webroot Spy Sweeper, PC Tools Internet Security, & SpyBot Search & Destroy) before installing Norton Internet Security. I am not sure if there is any connection. I searched for ctsyncu.exe in the Registry to see if there was an obvious problem, but did not see one. I also tried reinstalling the program twice to see if the uninstalls had inadvertently removed a file Creative Sync Manager needs. No luck.

I have a friends computer running windows 7 that comes up with "windows desktop manager stopped working" each time the computer is started. Another issue, which could be related is when you attempt to open a photo it says the .dll file for the program to view photos is gone(can't remember the exact error and t he computer isn't in front of me right this moment).

I did the following after Google'ing the issue with no luck on fixing the issue...

I ran a few different virus scans to make sure it wasn't infected, which they all came back clean.

I ran CCleaner to clean all the temp files along with running the registry fixer that it has built in.

I have the video card to the most up to date driver.

Bios is also up to date.

I booted into safe mode to see if the photos would be view able in there and they were not. Came up with same error as in normal mode.

I turned off DWM.exe from starting with startup.

I attempted to replace DWM.exe with a clean version.

I ran sfc /scannow. It said it found errors but could not fix them. I looked through the CBS log that was generated from the scan, but wasn't too sure what to look for on it.

I also ran the windows 7 start up repair from the disc which didn't solve the issue.

Last few things I tested/noticed today:
I went through MSConfig and set the computer up for "Clean Boot" and it still started with the error. That was with all non microsoft services and startups disabled... Read more

The failed sfc scan is probably the most telling.
You have damage to core windows files.
The easiest fix is probably a repair install since you can still boot.

HI I have just up-dated all my drivers using " Driver Update " and now when i try to open some programs i get a fatal error message and a message that " Desktop manager stopped working " Any help appreciated david stokes

A:Desktop Window Manager stopped working

What drivers exactly are you using ?

1) Uninstall the device driver (Graphic card) in the ''device managers'' panel from the configuration panel and restart your computer.

Windows 7 will probably install a default driver, let it install before doing anything more. (if you are experimented with computers, I suggest you try using a software to clean the graphics cards drivers)

2) Download the latest drivers at World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies | NVIDIA
Select the appropriate computers settings and device to download the proper driver. (on the download section of the nvidia update you will be asked to put in theses informations)

3) Reboot your computer and tell us what it did.
Tell me if you need more details on the process. This first step will ensure that it is not a simple software corruption.

About 3 weeks ago I burned my last cd it would seem. After that my LG DVD burner just sorta stopped. Windows explorer can still see the drive, but when I put in a DVD/CD nothing shows up in explorer. I can send commands to open the drive though. The device manager reads no errors for the drive, the bios detects the drive as well. What I have done so far;

Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers
Replaced the IDE cables, switched back and forth from pirmary to secondary IDE cables
Removed the DVD drive, installed my old CD drive, same things happen.
Set jumper settings from slave to cable and back to slave.
followed the Microsoft instructions on removing the upper and lower filters in the registry. (didn't work)
Tried reinstalling windows...but the optical drive won't read anything so that doesn't work either.
I'm not even sure what would cause this to happen. The only thing I can think of is that a few days before this started my video card overheated and died. I replaced it with my older card, and continued on with now problems. Any help would be much appreciated as I'm ready to toss this out my 2nd floor window.

Hello friends.

This is the first time this has ever happened so, I'm quite stomped. Today, my Launch Manger stopped working. In the past, an uninstall and reinstall of the product fixed the issue when it rarely occurred (only times in the past 8 years) Today, however, I've ran the full gambit of assault on uninstalling and registry clearing. I used Revo Unistaller Pro to uninstall Launch Manager and used CCleaner to clear old registry strings and and still nothing! Each time I attempt to reinstall the program, it still doesn't work.

The OSDRC and OSDRC2 folders that normally house these image files:

are now completely empty:

I've tried simply copying and pasting the files over to no avail. There's something in the coding that's not calling the proper files to be used and I have not a clue on where the hiccup is. The [Fn] function key combos still work. The process just isn't using the visual image files as indicators.

Launch Manager is listed as a start-up item in CCleaner but, it does not point to a file that's supposed to be starting..

Task Manager does not list Launch Manager as a start-up item at all.

I checked to make certain Normal Startup was selected in msconfig and it was and that didn't help. Now I am completely lost.

Hello guys,
So i installed windows 7 ultimate yesterday and installed all needed programs, and I've got "desktop window manager stopped working and was closed" error every time i would startup, so I tried to fix it, and read here at forum that you could just make new profile user and it would be fixed, after that i had another error and that's "OEM stopped working" when i would try to open single picture. I thought the best solution would be to reinstall windows. I installed windows 7 again but this time it was proffessional, I installed again almost every program i needed, which i constantly use, and everything was working great, then i remembered that i didn't install AMD gaming evolved(raptr), it requested restart so i restarted, and then error came back, tried to uninstall the raptr, but errors were still there(desktop window manager stopped working and was closed, and when picture opened OEM has stopped working). Please help ASAP

So, it started about a month ago when I updated my Intel video card driver. The screen went black after it had been installed and I couldn't do anything so I restarted my laptop. As soon as I logged in, a window came up saying Desktop Windows Manager stopped working and was closed. Because of this, the Aero theme did not work and I could not see thro In addition to that, my Windows Movie Maker would close every time I attempted to open it up and this did not happen prior to DWM closing. About a week or so ago, my computer did an update and both problems were fixed. Then yesterday, I was using camstudio and clicked the wrong thing and my screen started to flash. I restarted my computer and both problems came back. Also, Firefox won't open and will crash every time unless I open it in safe mode. I'm not sure what other information you need such as error logs, so I'm just giving you this. Any help or tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Since i upgraded from win vista x64 ultimate to win 7 ultimate.. i've been unable to update my display driver setup to the newer 9.7 or even 9.8 ati set..

I have an ati 4870 card (two of them) in my system.. i just ran the upgrade, it worked, however i was never able to bring up the CCC catalyst software...

And when i try to run either 9.7 or 9.8 setup i get that error about the catalyst install manager has stopped working.. this blows up just after i click the button "install" (the other choice was uninstall)..

I've even tried the MS cleaner tool, tried running the ati remover.. then i cleared out all ati directories, and also ran the old driver cleaner pro tool (which still worked even though upgraded to 7)..

I really dont want to have to go clean install as i have Tons of apps and it would take days..

Has anyone ran into this and know of a way to get the ati software installed?

Everytime I boot up Vista I get this message "Macrovision Software Manager Agent has stopped working." Vista goes through the useless effort of trying to find a fix on the internet but cannot find anything so the only option is to "Close Program". The message shows up again after clicking "Close Program". After closing the second dialog everything runs smoothly.

It doesn't seem to be hindering anything on the system from working, but it's just annoying. I've searched the internet for a solution but the only one I've found was "restore to a previous restore point" from the Microsoft website no less. This has been going on for some time so I don't have a previous restore point to go back to. Any ideas?

System is a HP Pavillion dv4 with Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit.

Computer boots up with message "Desktop Windows Manager stopped working and was closed." Ran CCleaner already and nothing. Also when computer goes to sleep and it wakes up it will not connect to the network until you reboot it. Also runs very sluggish while playing Diablo 3 when it clearly should not run slow at all. Really would like help with a clean up in general.

One day clicked it and got unexpected error... windows will close the application. I have used this program for 6 months daily without any issues. No software changes within the past month.

Tried to uninstall and reinstall a few time, even reinstalled the .net software first (suggestion i saw on a Portuguese forum)

I know some readers are going to think I'm too nit-picky over a tiny issue, but it's annoying not knowing whether your computer is on or off, or in standby or hibernate. The blue LED on my start button got progressively dimmer last week and finally doesn't show at all. I asked JNCS who built the computer if they had replacement switch assemblies. They don't and said my best bet would be to buy an LED at Radio Scrap. So I measured the voltage output from the mobo (5v.) and bought a 5v. LED from RS (actually looked identical to the old one). Soldered the new LED onto the wires, making sure I connected the positive side of the LED to the positive wire that goes to the mobo pins.

Doesn't work; still no light. This despite the fact that the pins it connects to have 5v. on them.

Anybody have any idea why the LED isn't working?

Hello, power LED in the power button and the "red dot" LED in the lid in X240 suddenly stopped working. I found, ordered and replaced a cable that is runing from the motherboard to the power button and webcam/"red dot" LED, and miniboard with power button and LED. Unfortunately, it didn't help. Can someone give me a clue how to deal that?

Every time I try to enable virtual soundcards from Windows playback, the Dell Audio crashes with message "Realtek HD Audio Manager has stopped working". We need the virtual soundcards to place SIP calls.
I have tried following Realtek High Definition Audio drivers, but the all behave the same way.
The problem exists on several our Dell laptops so it shoudn't be an installation issue. Any ideas how to resolve the issue?
