Q: Device Blocked For your Safety.. Ransomeware.. Android..

Mod Edit:  Per OP request, deleted previous posts originally in different OP's topic - Hamluis.   ... So   Hi  and thanks in advance for any time you all take to help me resolve this issue..   I have a Samsung Note 10.1 tablet.. 2012  new old stock.. running 4.2.1  I am not sure if it automatically backs up to my family photos and docs to my Samsung account nor Google account as I am pretty old skool and just use it for facebook ebay and keeping family photos on..  This morn I was watching funny flicks on various links through Facebook when it jammed on to a series of popup flick sites adds some of which were not of a moderate nature and as I closed them they became faster and faster so I finally could not close and it seemed to be trying to download ..  I pulled the modem out of the wall and switched off the tablet .. I left it for some hours and after lunch flicked it back on .. there was a you have been blocked warning..   never seen this before .. but on research I know enough to recognize it as a ransom-ware..  I use old skool Mac and not dialed in to Windows.. .. I have searched about this forum and found some posts and help links and advice ...  but they are old and seem out of date with dead links .. I have followed some online advice but have neither resolved nor seemingly have I made it any worse.. We seriously will be devastated I and the family loose any files vids or photos.. as I said not sure it they are backed up..    Its seems I need to start up in safe reboot as IN (starting it up whilst holding the volume control in the full up position)   Please correct me if this is wrong ,, ?  and then gain assistance in removal of issue or at least export files and docs then perhaps reboot but have only old mac that does not run Samsung Keis nor is compatible with the Galaxy note 10.1..   So Having started in safe mode   do I run a Reboot System Action now and if so will this buy me time to export files and back up... Or will a Reboot affect my files.. Or even get rid of issue Virus ..Or Which of the other options should I choose.. Reboot SystemApply update fromADBApply Update from external StorageWipe Data/factory reset.Wipe cache partitionApply update from Cache ????  I will post a screen shot  ..If  someone can advise how to upload and share images...  My deepest thanks to anyone that can relay basic layman's terms resolve that I may be able to follow to regain a sense of normality ..!  I feel there may be need to wipe and do a factory restore but hopefully only after saving my files?  this will surely be a last resort .. regards  RM

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I am new to the forum but have been looking around and see it's a great place for help and information so firt off thank you in advance for any and all help you guys can offer.I just bought a used galaxy note 5 with a broken power port. I have a wireless charger so I let the phone charge up as it was dead. Upon first power on it booted to the fbi ransomeware splash page . I think its the Prism variant as I see that logo in the information tab and it wants the usual payment with a OneVanilla card. I have done some reading and have removed from computers before but not from a phone. I know I need to start in safe mode to get started.

My question is this blocks use of the power button to turn off or restart the phone. Is there a way to get the phone to restart so I can boot into safe mode or is my only option to basically let the battery drain from 100% unbtil it shuts down then charge it back up then restart it going into safe mode from there?

I wasnt sure if there might be a known way to get it to reboot without waiting. This is another issue with non remoal batteries and why manufactures shouldn't use closed battery options. Any help on getting this issue resolved is greatly appreciated as I now know why the guy was giving it so low besides the broken power port lol. thanks....

The reason I want to do this is my audio jack on my laptop seems to be broken. I'm often in the library or others places where headphones are essential.

A:How to Stream Audio on Android Device while keeping Video on Windows Device

That would be very difficult.
Lets first find out if your if your Audio jack is broken.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager are there any yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed.
What is the make and model# of your laptop? Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers and type in your make and model# or service tag # and download the Chipset and Audio driver for your computer.

Hello everyone

I have a topic/question that has been on my mind for a while now.
I was browsing through flea market electronics section one day and I noticed this pretty new keyboard. I looked specifications and it
even had ARM processor. It was pretty cheap too. This however raised my general question about safety of these devices. I don't know
much about how USB communicates with hardware so correct me if I state something wrong.

Using keyboard as point of reference(I think this might apply to almost every USB device), how easy would it be to modify this keyboard to do malicious actions(motives aside)? I would imagine that the easiest way would
be modifying keyboards firmware.

So let's say I plug this keyboard to my PC. It's Windows 7 32bit. I can imagine at least two scenarios:

Keyboard plugged while PC is off and then is turned on

At this point there is no OS managing the hardware so the malicious keyboard is communicating with CPU directly(correct me if I'm wrong).
You can install new OS from USB so you must have access to harddisk at this point so you could, for example plant rootkit there for kernel to load. Or just wipe the whole disk
for fun.

Keyboard plugged while PC is on(OS is loaded)

Would this make difference the first scenario or does OS interfere some way? OS detects new devices so the device might disguise itself as someway or just
register itself as keyboard and let OS setup generic driver for it. If generic d... Read more

A:USB Device Safety

Let's not over-complicate it.

It is possible to add memory to a keyboard to host malware, though prohibitively expensive considering the likely reward. Extremely unlikely unless you are being targeted specifically for valuable information. (ie: military, research, etc...)

If you wanted to be sure that no application from outside your system could run on your system you can always set up a restricted execution policy. (ie: executables only in program files and windows directories are allowed to execute). This also stops most malware. An easy way to implement this is with Cryptoprevent, if you don't want to get into all the fun and games of creating group policy and local policy objects.

To eliminate the possibility of having 2nd hand USB storage devices infect your Windows system with malware simply turn off Autorun/Autoplay and format the USB devices before using them.

Hello-

I am the parent, with 2 "child" laptops I want to monitor. Both children are showing up as "kids" on the Family Safety home page. However, only two laptops are showing up under "Applies to these devices" (mine and one child). I have tried following the steps on the Microsoft.com help pages, but I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong because the device is not showing up.

What I did was sign onto my (missing) child's laptop with his user name and password, then set that laptop as a "child" laptop. I thought that by doing this, Family Safety would automatically start reporting to the Family Safety web page all of his activity.

I'm not sure I understand how a child can appear under the "kids" on family safety, but not his device (laptop). Can someone guide me through the process so that I can see his device on the Family Safety page?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Good morning friends, this question might fall under networking or mobile devices, but I think it's more a PC question. My goal is to forge a setup where I am able to conveniently stream media from my home media PC to my Android smartphone (Galaxy 3S). I am currently able to stream video to my phone while I'm at home on my Wi-Fi connection using the "Nearby Devices" option in the phone that appears to engage DLNA. When I do this, I get the option to stream from Windows Media Player's streaming system. My question then is how do I access my home PC information while mobile-browsing? I've got 4G service (big deal....) and would like the ability to access my home content while on the go. From my limited understanding of this goal, I see the option of using a VPN or something of that nature to create a secure connection through the computer's firewall so I can access the media server; is this going to work? Would this essentially be considered a "remote desktop" scenario? Asked another way: is a remote desktop connection a VPN?I'm looking for some suggestions on how to pull this off. If you have suggestions, like "use this VPN and open these ports and blah blah blah", I'd need some how-to because I've never tried to do this. I know a person can buy some programs that say they will take care of doing this, but how hard can it be? It's just a client-server relationship between the phone and the PC, right? Ope... Read more

One software that I have used for this is called Orb. You would install the Orb Caster software on your PC, add the media files to the Orb libraries, and then you can stream them from any internet-connected PC. They have two different Android Apps, a free one and a paid one ($9.95). I am not sure what the differences are between the two versions. It's probably at least worth taking a look at the free version to see if it fulfills your requirements.

ThanksClick to expand...

1) Security is not essential for anything - you can run Windows fine without any AV or security but you just need to be extremely careful.
2) Android Devices can get infected pretty easily thanks to the Google Play store letting in malicious applications - IOS doesn't have this issue.
3) If you are infected on your Android device then download stuff like:

- MalwareBytes
- Emsisoft or Kaspersky AV
They can be found within the Google Play Store!

Hello everyone!

I have a question: is it possible to "synchronize" Windows 8 / 8.1 (but also possibly Windows 7) with an Android smartphone?

Let me explain: I would like that if I set a reminder with your smartphone, I'll be back even when I log on to Windows, a bit 'as is the case with iOS + OSX.
I know that you can not synchronize your Google Calendar with Windows 8, if not connecting to the google account to hotmail, but there is another way that you know?

It would be nice to also sync the photos you snap with your cell phone with the gallery of Windows 8, using Google Drive, but I guess now I ask a bit 'too much, however, a synchronization in Apple style is that possible?

I have no problem to "do everything by hand," but I was wondering if there is a faster way to do the whole thing ....

Thank you in advance !!

Hi All,

First post - thanks in advance for reading!

So I am having trouble getting my email to "sync" properly between three devices (using quotes because I don't actually want to sync, I believe):
1) Gmail web interface (used on remote computers - library, friends' homes, etc);
2) Outlook mail client (home desktop computer);
3) Android email app (phone).
I would like Outlook on my home desktop computer to be the final destination - this is where I do most of my work and I prefer the functionality of Outlook. I have been trying to set this up so that I can access and delete mail from either the web or phone, but whatever remains in my inbox will wind up in Outlook next time I open it - and once downloaded by outlook will no longer appear on Gmail / Phone.

Currently its all awry. Mostly the Gmail /Outlook arrangement works, except that every message I send to others in Gmail also winds up in my Outlook inbox. Annoying but bearable. The phone is the real problem, though, messages that go to the phone stay on the phone and cannot be retrieved by either Gmail or Outlook, without manual forwarding.
Currently, I have Gmail set up to use POP and to delete messages from Gmail once they have been downloaded with POP. I have my phone set up to use POP, with sync off (though manually syncing seems to make no difference), and to never delete messages from the server.

Also, I would rather not use the gmail android app because I can either sync mail and con... Read more

A:Gmail (web) + Desktop Client + Android device. Help!

Not helpful, but know you're not alone. I have a similar setup to yours (except I use Thunderbird as my home email client).

That being said, I've never been able to "streamline" mine either. I believe this is largely dependent on the push or pull times (whether the client or server is responsible I don't know).

But even with just my Android phone and the web app, the result of deleting an email on my phone does not immediately delete an email on the web app. I often have to wait a while, or even separately delete the email again on the web app for it to take effect.

I want to root my android device for a few good reasons. Firstly, I want to be able to have a firewall that is on 24/7. I can not use a no-root firewall as it won't allow me to use a VPN. Secondly, I want to delete the bloatware that comes preinstalled with the device. It takes up space and acts as spyware. I want to move as far away from Google and Samsung applications as possible. The only reason I am using Android over Replicant or LineageOS is simply because I want to be able to install apps from the Playstore. If there were a way to install Android apps on Replicant OS, I would make the switch in a heartbeat. But since that isn't the case, I want to root my device to then modify it to match my needs.

So should I root my device? Or are there other ways to get what I want?

Hello!

This is definitely a Windows 10 thing. If I connect either my Nexus 5 or my LG G4 to my PC via USB the phone is recognized. I can see it in Windows Explorer but clicking on it does nothing, no access to files.

Before I made the jump from Vista to Windows 10 it worked fine. There has to be some setting someplace. I did apply a hotfix (KB3099229_x64) which was supposed to fix the issue. It did not!

If there's some trick to it could you share it with me???

Thanks for you help way in advance!

A:Android device recognized but cannot access files on it

Are you sure you switched your phone to "File transfer" mode, as opposed to "Charging only" mode? Because this is exactly what happens when you connect an Android phone in "Charging only" mode: it becomes visible in Windows (e.g. in File Explorer), but shows as empty device - no file access.

In standard cookie-cutter Android Marshmallow you are supposed to manually switch the phone to "File transfer" mode every time you connect it to the computer. (Before Marshmallow it was possible to set a default mode, but for some reason they removed that capability in Marshmallow).

This is not exactly what you were asking for, but I have had good luck transferring PC files to the phone with this tool. The Swiss File Knife ( Free Instant Web Server for Windows/Linux file transfer: sfk httpserv )is a free program that I have used for several years, that is a command line utility that includes a HTTP server. It allows selecting a folder on my PC, and making the files in it accessible to my phone over the LAN by entering the 192.168.0.xxx address in the phone browser.

I tried trouble shooting and got the ?one or more network protocols are missing on this computer? error, which it says it fixed in administrator mode, but it didn't change anything.
Googling on various fixes mostly seem to result in pages of people not able to connect to the internet at all, but that is not my problem.

A:Samba access from Android device stopped working

There is a File sharing app out there for Android devices. When connecting to workgroup shares on an Android OS or iOS device, the OS can block you from doing so, to protect the OS and device.

Windows uses CIFS for sharing, not SAMBA. The version of Samba that Microsoft uses, is a very crippled version and has had issues recently since the last update. Download ES File Explorer from the Google Play store and use that to access your shares. I have never had any issues with it.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed on my Windows 7 machine. As soon I connect my phone to USB mass storage it detects and delete it. But then again appears if I disconnect from PC.

I am able to open task manager, registry editor etc. (I read generally this virus doesn't allow to open these things.) I am not able to see any autorun.inf file on that external drive. I tried to format the drive two-three times. On PC it shows like drive is empty, but as soon as I connect it my phone all data reappears. That microsd card is 7 GB and 5GB is occupied. Tried to scan the android using avg and avast scanner available from Google Play Store.

Any thing else I need to do. Not able to figure out how to solve this issue.

I have set up my connection as per the following article
http://www.siyge.com/2013/03/24/create-hotspot-in-windows-8-adhoc-network/

The netsh commands I used are:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=MyWlan key=qwertyui keyUsage=persistent

netsh wlan start hostednetwork
The difference is:
a) I am sharing a USB modem connection
b) I have turned off Windows Firewall ( I use Comodo nternet Security)
I have a dell n5010 laptop using Windows 8.

When I tried to connect my Android device to it, the device simply gets stuck at the "Obtaining IP address step"
I decided to use a Blackberry device and the same error occurred.
To be doubly sure, I even used another Laptop running Windows XP SP3 to connect to the hostednetwork, even it got stuck at the "Obtaining IP address" part for some time. Then it got connected with "Limited or no connectivity" status.

A:HostedNetwork is Set up, Android device is unable to obtain IP Address

The following procedure worked for me.
1) Disable Internet Connection Sharing from your modem connection -> properties -> Sharing Tab
2) Enable it again.
3) Disconnect from the Internet.
4) Reconnect again
5) Restart ICS service from the "services.msc" window.
6) Stop the hostednetwork
7) Start the hostednetwork
8) Internet Sharing is now enabled and everything gets resolved.

Hi all. This is my very first smartphone, but I'm pretty well versed with computers (not an expert).

(edit) The phone is a BLU Studio C 5+5 with a Mediatek MT6582 CPU I have also updated my PC specs in my profile.

First off, I'm pretty sure when I first hooked it up it was fine, because I managed to get some mp3's moved to it, but now it will only connect in camera mode. So, I can transfer pictures, but that's it.

The problem seemed to begin after Windows Update alerted me to an MTP driver update, which I attempted to install, but it failed every time. I tried a clean boot and install but it still failed. After that, I can only connect in camera mode.

I have contacted BLU about drivers and they said they don't provide them, and to contact OS support.

I have attempted to contact Mediatek but got no response.

Things I have tried:

* Uninstall followed by clean boot install

* Uninstalling some (not all) other USB listings in device manager. Not all at once, as some lock up my USB keyboard and mouse.

* Different USB ports

* Unplugging USB harddrive

One last thing: Windows update seems to have an issue with 'disappearing' updates after multiple failed attempted installs. It has done this with the MTP driver and now my Intel graphics driver, which was also failing to install.

Ignore my earlier post titled "domain not set.invalid - How do I fix the problem". Domain not set.invalid may not be the problem.

had a power surge at my house and it took down my internet. I had to reset my router back to factory settings and I finally got the router to work with my PC. But I cannot access the internet from my iPad 2 or my Android phone. Both devices see the network and can hook up to the network but the internet is not working on either device. I have no idea how to resolve this issue. Any ideas?

Hi and welcome to TSG,

I realize your first language is not English but unfortunately your post makes little sense. Are you looking for a device, a bluetooth driver, a cable, or an app?

Have you looked at specialized apps for PC texting? There's quite a few, here's some: http://lifehacker.com/the-best-way-to-text-from-your-computer-on-android-1572831393

Is 802.1X is supported on Windows 8.1 with Hyper-V? If itīs true how can i configured my Windows 8 hyper-v Client to get Access over 802.1x?
Thanks in advance!

Hey all!

As the thread title says, I need this device driver and I need it fast. As I don't have an active broadband connection anymore I am trying to connect to the Internet using my Android device as a modem (USB tethering). But I am curently stuck here. It seems I need a driver for this to work.

I am using Windows Vista 64-bit with SP2 and a HTC Desire as modem. When I connect the phone Windows is looking for drivers for a device named 'Android Phone'. It fails to find it and asks me what to do. I obviously can't let it search for it on the Internet. And I don't have a disc with drivers, I didn't get one.

I am using the Android phone to type this. As I have limited screen size and no mouse or keyboard, it's really hard for me to do a Google search to track down this driver issue. As far as I can tell, this should work out of box on Windows Vista. It seems that only Windows XP users are having this issue. Even on the Google Help it says that Windows XP users will need a special driver to enable USB tethering. But then again, why am I having this problem on Windows Vusta then?

I need to get back online fast, as I have bills to pay and things like that.

Thanks in advance!

A:Solved: Request: USB tethering device driver for 'Android Phone' on Windows Vista 64-

Hi again! I just wanna let you know that I have solved this little problem. As it turns out it does pay off reading the manual. Also, it is not completely true that Windows Vista comes with appropriate drivers pre-installed. You still need to install these, even on Windows Vista, and on Windows 7. But I still wish that things like these could just work out of the box. But for that reason alone, I may need to switch to a different operating system.

The solution was very simple. I did need to install the device drivers. But I didn't need to download and install them separately, they came pre-packed as part of the HTC Sync tool. And this thing comes cleverly stored on the MicroSD of the phone. So I just installed that and I was able to use the phone as a modem. It worked very good. The Internet connection did hang up on me once, but after a reboot of the phone it worked again and I was able to do my business effortlessly.

The thing is, I have terminated my old subscription, and I completely forgot about it and when they were supposed to shut down my connection. So it just happened, unexpectedly. But I have ordered a new Internet subscription with my new carrier and I am expecting it to be activated in couple of minutes.

Thanks anyway!

P.s. Just for the record, the HTC Sync tool is stored on the root of the memory card, the MicroSD card of the phone. It should say something like 'HTCSync_2.0.28.exe'. Just plug the phone to the computer in USB mass storage mode ... Read more

Hi there, This problem has happened several times now, and can't find any solution so time to report it.Our Lenovo Book YB1-X90F is about 3 months old, and has been updated to Android 7.1.1 (security patch 1st August 2017), and recently we have had several instances of Apps seemingly open themselves when the Book is not in use. And by "not in use" I mean it's been closed, sitting on a chair, connected to power, not being used at all for hours. A week ago we heard strange noises in the room, and tracked them down to the Yoga Book, and when we opened the Book we found Youtube App open, playing some video of some baby crying. Closed the Youtube app and found several other apps were open, apps we rarely or never use. Chrome was also open with many, many tabs showing pages we had never accessed, and History showed they opened when we were not using it.  Today we opened the Yoga Book and some new App we had not seen before was filling the screen. We dismissed it and then found the Google Play store was open, showing the page for this new App. And after closing the Play store app, and looking at task switcher, I found that Google Maps was open showing central america (I live in UK and have never looked at this region on Google Maps), Google Sheets was open (we don't use Sheets), Note Saver was open with lots of random squiggles and lines drawn on the page. There is no-one else in the house, so something is causing these apps to load on their own. Severa... Read more

Hi:

My colleague brought me his computer. Apparently, he uninstalled AVG and at some point installed Malware Defense. I've deleted all traces of Malware Defense from the registry and unregistered the associated dlls but I cannot successfully install AVG9--the installation always fails due to not responding in a timely fashion. I can install Spybot 1.62 but it won't launch in either regular nor safe mode. Likewise I can install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but it won't respond.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

There are a number of Android apps (Google Play-sourced only), mainly photo and video-related, which I like a lot, although I don't really like using a tablet. I've researched a bit into Android emulators which run on Windows 7 e.g. here

6 best Android emulators for PC | Android Authority

and while the idea sounds great, I wonder -- Android is said to have loads of security flaws. I work pretty hard to keep my Win 7 PC clean (I hope!). Is there a risk that by running Android apps, I'm running security risks?

A:Does running an Android emulator bring Android-type security risks?

First of all, it's simply not true that Android has "lots of security flaws". Of course it's not immune to viruses and attackers, but it's not inherently that its an immense risk in it. There are vulnerabilities, but most problems actually came from using untrusted software that abuses the devise. As always, the number one vulnerability in any system is the user.

Now to business. There is no exact answer to that question. It will greatly depend on what emulator do you use and how it's exactly implemented, how does it manages to run Android software and how much does it emulated and how exactly. Frequently, I would expect a different implementation of the Android low level API, meaning that bugs in Android will never afect an emulator (which in turn can have its own bugs), unless some behavior is there "by design", in which case the emulator should attempt to copy it.
Besides, I would expect the emulator to isolate the host computer from malicious Android software (which is not generally aware of Windows existence). Unless an Android virus specifically targets a particular flaw of a particular version of a particular emulator (which as already happened with virtual machines), I won't worry too much about it.

The comes the problem of what programs do you install on the emulated Android. When you install a virus there, it will attempt to do the same malicious actions than it would do on a real phone. Some actions will work the same, for example those i... Read more
