Passwords to QuickBooks workbook files... suddenly not working? (I hate QuickBooks!)

Q: Passwords to QuickBooks workbook files... suddenly not working? (I hate QuickBooks!)

Okay, so all I did was move the quickbooks workbook file from my local hard disk drive, to the network attached storage drive, and now I suddenly can't log in.

More specifically, the limited username and password works, but I set that up AFTER moving the file...

Unfortunately, this is a limited user, so it cannot access everything... otherwise there wouldn't really be much of a problem.

So my question is, did I accidentally lose some file or something when I moved the quickbooks workbook file? Or is this some sort of horrible malfunction? I'm really not familiar with the software and have little to no understanding of it's permissions and how it stores it's different 'users' for each workbook, etc.

I'm about 2 minutes away from panicking here, because this quickbooks file is quite important, and we need to get back into it.

Preferred Solution: Passwords to QuickBooks workbook files... suddenly not working? (I hate QuickBooks!)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't really know the answer but can you move the file back to your hard drive and see if it will accept your password then?

A:Upload QuickBooks 2010 company file to QuickBooks Online

Since you're running an older version of QuickBooks, it may not support it natively. Have a read here, and then try updating QuickBooks to see if they've patched it to include the option for exporting to QuickBooks Online. If that doesn't work, follow their options for downloading a trial version which will allow you to do the export.

Of course, before you do anything, ensure you do backups, backups, backups of your important data, and also save them offline on a flash drive, external HDD, or some other medium.

I recently upgraded from quickbooks 2003 to quikbooks pro 2007 and my files from QBooks 2003 will not open can you please help

A:Moving from Quickbooks 2003 to Quickbooks Pro2007

Once the software is upgraded, when you open the QB Data file you should get prompted to convert the file to 2007 format....are you getting any message like that? It won't be as simple as just opening it as before...it has to get converted....after that it should open normally.

Provide more detail on what messages you may be seeing.

* Note you should make sure your 2003 version of the data file is backed up so if you have to you can uninstall 2007 and put 2003 back in.

Hello! I have updated my quickbooks from 2007 to 2010. I am having an issue when trying to open the .qbw file I have for my company (View photo).

I am trying to restore from a backed up file, which I know is .qbb. But I don't have a file with that extension!

Can anyone help me out with this? I heard I need to just convert the .qbw file to the newer version of quickbooks (2010). Now I try converting within quickbooks, but I don't see my .qbw anywhere when trying to locate it within the software.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

We are a small public water agency in very rural California.  Financial reports coming from our longstanding QuickBooks installation are starting to show nonsensical results.  A call to Quickbooks support produced the statement that our company file has become corrupted and needed "fixing" - to the tune of hundreds of dollars.  I called back and asked the service tech for explanation.  He showed me - too quickly for me to get a clear picture - pages of Event Viewer logs with very many Quickbooks errors, and offered to "fix everything" - in a way that sounded too much like the litanies I've often heard, "your computer is infected, let us fix it".  One time data repair: $400.  One year support: $650.  Two years: $1000.  Three years: $1500.

What is true: that computer has been used for some time by fairly clueless or careless office staff; it is running quite noticeably slowly.  After closing time today I will scan it for viruses, scan with MBAM, run CCleaner, and see what happens.

There are supposed to be daily backups, but I will be a little surprised if those have actually been run every day.

Sounds like the typical 3rd party support that shows you the Event Viewer errors and tries selling a support contract. I would contact Quickbooks but not the support site and ask if they send their support questions to a 3rd party.

That being said the only thing I can recommend is to right click the corrupted file and select Properties. Under the Previous Versions tab see if you have any previous versions of the file. As far as repairing a corrupt Quickbooks file somebody else would have to answer that question. Did you see this tool from intuit? I would work on a copy of the file, not the original.

This is a solution to problems getting a local version of Quickbooks Pro to use data files that are on the Files Anywhere remote fileserver service (FilesAnywhere.com). For all I know it may work with other remote fileserver services as well.

The problem:
Quickbooks Pro simply will not load the Quickbooks file on the server, even though you have got the WebDAV folder mappings right and you can see the remote Quickbooks files. Often it will just sit there for a while and then come back with an error message. This is odd because other programs like Word have no problem seeing and editing files on the same remote server using the same WebDAV folder.

The cure :
1. On your local computer, make sure you have a multi-license version of Quickbooks if you are planning to share the files among several users (for example, you and your book-keeper) and that you have the multi-user feature enabled and the extra users/s set up.
2. Now shift the Quickbooks data file directories from your local computer to that remote fileserver, in this case Files Anywhere, and get the WebDAV link working.
3. Now get into Windows Firewall and explicitly add any and all "Quickbooks" executables to the list of exceptions. If you have any other firewalls running, they can be a problem too, so turn them off for now.
4. Now start Quickbooks, open the file on Files Anywhere, and away you go.

If you skip any of the above steps it won't work.

Happy accounting!

installed quickbooks pro 2010 december 2009 on compaq laptop operated by vista.  worked fine until mid june 2010 when i could not open the software.  tried reinstalling to no avail.  contacted qb customer service 5 times and spoke to 5 different
personnel located in india, bulgaria and phillipines and received 5 different explanations for this problem and not one could resolve it (7 hours on sunday and another 1 hour monday).  I tried installing from cd, then downloaded from website and then
did a hard install and nothing worked.  I was told that something was wrong with my windows installer which was why I could not install.  Could not uninstall nonworking qb 2010 from my laptop, so I manually deleted 2010 and installed qb 2009 which
installed without a problem but I cannot access my backup files since they were created by qb 2010.  Qb customer service says this is not their problem and state that qb 2010 works fine.  However, when i googled this problem, I encountered many users
who have the same problem with no help from customer service.
Does anyone have a clue what is wrong and how I can resolve this.

Also, install this QuickBooks update package:

I apologize upfront for this thread in this area but I couldn't find the correct spot. If you want to refer me great!

I have used Quickbooks Pro since 1996. I have never encountered this problem: the find feature has stopped working. I am working with QB Pro 2007 and have 3-companies I am working with. In only 1 (the most important one of course) the fine feature has stopped working. Any thoughts? I am familiar with advanced searches and using the product. I get a '0' everytime I search for anything in this one company. I'm thinking an upgrade to 2010 is needed unless you have another thought. Thanks in advance.

I've never used Quickbooks before, but my mom does for her business. I'm the go-to tech support for my family, but I have no idea what to do in this case. This is what she needs:Would like you to recover my 2007,2008, 2009 and 2010 info on Quick books. It automatically saves when I enter data, but I've concluded that when I "restore" I've lost the data. I haven't lost it all, but can't figure out how to get to 2007 and 2008. So sometime soon, could you come over and take my disk, Quick book prgram and copy my desktop icons and recover my data? Can anyone tell me how to help her?

A:Quickbooks

I suggest the first thing you'll need to do is find out why she's using "restore". This copies a backup over the top of the current company file. Any data in the current database that does not exist in the backup will disappear. The main cause for repeated use of restore that I've seen is transferring the database between two computers, one at the business premises and another at home for after-hours processing. Doing this means you have to be careful managing the process so data is only ever changed on one computer at a time. However it should not cause any loss of older records.Quickbooks doesn't close yearly accounts, you just generate reports by date range to produce figures for any given year. However to limit the size of company file this can cause, previous years data can be compressed. If this has been done, individual transactions can no longer be accessed, you can only generate category totals in reports. This could give the impression data has been lost. If that's what has happened, in order to access old transactions and be able to generate reports like weekly or monthly activity, you need to be able to temporarily restore an older backup from before the year's accounts were compressed.I hope she has always stored away regular backups of the company file so that this sort of thing can be handled. If a proper backup regimen has not been followed, there can be a world of pain. Another thing to check is if audit tracking is turned on. That records every chan... Read more

I was fixing up a laptop for a friend and hoping to put on quickbook 2012, however the processor is 1.5 GHZ and the requirements say 2.5 GHZ processor. It has enough memory for it. I was thinking that it needs quickbook 2006 instead. I am looking for a copy around $100.00. Does anyone know where to find this. I don't have an account with ebay.

My real question is if I do install quickbooks 2011 in a laptop with 1.5 GHZ with 1.25 GB of memory, will the quickbooks run. If so, will it be really slow?
I should have looked at the requirements of Quickbook 2011 right away. Actually. I have quickbooks 2008 on my computer. Even 2008 has a requisite that is higher than the laptop. I was thinking of putting 2011 on my computer. It definetly has the processing speed and memory. Does anyone have advice for me? i've been asked to recover and restore quickbooks for my city office, will be my 1st time for a quickbooks type recovery. haven't taken the job yet but is it possible to recover deleted data from harddrive for quickbooks?

A:quickbooks

Possibley and you won't know until you try. I recovered deleted data several years ago and will try to think of the product name. It allowed you to 'see' what you could recover before paying the $75 for the liscence. Used it many times after that. I never had to recover a 'data base' but it should be similar.

If the hard drive has been removed from use your chances are much better. When a file is deleted data still there, the space it occupies is reallocated for use. The pointer to file is deleted. The more the HD is used the more likely it will write over the data. I'ld guess you have a 75% chance of success.

So I have recently migrated over from Wave Accounting, waveapps.com, to Quickbooks Pro Plus 2016, desktop version.

There were pros and cons to waveapps.com. What I liked most about waveapps.com was the ability to snap a photo of your receipt on your mobile phone. You have the ability to select the Vendor, the chart of account you wanted it to affect and then also you specify how you paid for the merchandise. A transaction is created automatically and a picture of the receipt is automatically attached. The only other time you must deal with that transaction is when you reconcile.

With Quickbooks... the process that I have found is much more involved and drawn out.

I purchased a Fujitsu scanner, thinking it would help emulate the process that I was used to.
In the Fujitsu software I scan the image, specify the vendor and accounts and transfer the transaction to QB. I also have the option to export the image which would allow me to manually attach the image to the transaction in QB. I then go in to QB and find the transaction as a bill. Then I have to pay the bill, basically specify how i paid for the merchandise and then I can reconcile at the end of the month when I receive the statement.

Is there any way to stream line this process?

Has anyone found a way utilize their mobile phone to enter in transactions in Quickbooks Desktop?

I can't wait to hear some feedback and ideas, thanks in advance.

I am running Quickbooks 2001 multi-user edition on 3 machines here in my office, each on a Windows 98 PC, and the data file is on the Windows NT 4 company server.

I cannot switch to single-user mode on any of the machines. I log in as Admin and it says I am the only one logged on, yet when I try to switch to single-user, it says someone else is accessing the file and they have to close the company file before I can switch.

I've done Close File/Company Logoff on each machine, checked the Task Manager to make sure no Quickbooks-related files were open, and even went as far as to uninstall and reinstall Quickbooks on each machine, but so far nothing has worked.

You might check the startup programs to see what is listed there if you get the message without trying to open the program.

Second you might have to remove it, delete the folders, not your files, move them so you can later bring them back, and then clean the registry of Quick book.

An easy to use program to do this is RegClean.

I downloaded Internet Explorer 7. Then when I went to use quickbooks windo popped says not compatible and must upgrade. I downloaded quickbooks simple, thinking that was the necessary upgrade. We talked to the quickbooks guy, told him what we were doing and proceeded. It wiped Qbooks2005 and Qsimple is not compatible with data from Q2005.
Called Qbooks guy back, and he had my wife delete Qsimple and system recovery. It did not bring back Q2005. They sent a Reinstallation CD which will not work. Wife spent most of yesterday am on phone with Qbooks trying to get this working. Got many years data locked up. On the add remove in control panel still shows Qbooks2005 but no size.
Still have Qbooks icon on desktop. I badly need to restore or reinstall Q2005 so can do yearend books, etc. please help.

I dont really have much idea about how Quickbooks works but if all your data is seperate to the actual program (which it probably is) then first I'd back all that data up. Then you could try starting the computer up in 'Safe Mode' (restart computer and while its starting keep pressing f8) then delete Quickbooks in Add/remove programs and then try re-installing it again with the CD they gave you.

Trying to install QuickBooks software, I got this response:
"Setup cannot find C:\Windows\COMMAND.COM and setup cannot continue."
I have Windows 7.
Thanks.

A:QuickBooks

The version you're trying to install may not be compatible with that version of Windows.
You need QuickBooks 2007 or later. QuickBooks 2006 & earlier versions are not compatible with Windows 7.

I am using QBP 2001. I am trying to make invoices with my business logo. I got the logo on the invoice but it is all scrunched up and I'd like to move it. When I follow the directions in the Help file I go through the 'customize template' and so on....then it says to use the 'layout designer' to move the logo. My problem is that my 'layout designer' button is greyed out so I can't access it. Can anyone help me to fix this? Please!!!! I really need help.

thanks in advance

I am trying to use Quickbooks Accounting Student Trial Edition. It has installed ok, but when I open it, it tells me that something has caused the program to quit working and Windows is shutting it down. It has two buttons that say debug and close program. I've tried reinstalling the program too. Intuit tech support says I need to talk with the student version department and can't help me and the student department won't help with tech issues and tell me to contact tech support. My schools tech support say they can't help since its not their issue as well as the book publisher the program came with. I have no problems with any other programs or issues with my computer. I have all recent updates for windows and quicken. I am running Windows 7 Professional.

A:Quickbooks

If Intuit can't/won't help, it's probably going to be difficult for anyone else to provide much assistance.

A couple of thoughts:

How old is the Trial program, i.e. is it a version that's compatible with Windows 7?

See if it will install and run successfully on another computer. If the same thing happens it may be a corrupted disk or simply a faulty issue of the program. If it's happy on another computer, it would indicate some incompatability with your system.

In Windows XP when we would right click and open a quickbooks file within a folder we would get a Quickbooks tab that would tell us version, etc. Also, when we would get the rollover description of the folder the Quickbooks information would also be there. This is all gone with Windows 7. Does anyone know if there is a way to get those features?

Thank you.

A:Quickbooks Tab

Try this go navigate to the quickbooks executable and right click on it, click on "properties", then the "compatibility" tab then click "change settings for all users" then check the box "run this program in compatibility mode" for Windows XP SP3" and also check the box that says "disable visual themes" then click apply and ok and close all of it and reopen the program hopefully you will see your tabs. I have to do this for some programs that are older and have never been up to date with windows 7. So hopefully that will help you out...

I just finished setting up my 2008-2009 budget. When I call-up a Profit & Loss Report or a Budget Analysis Report there are expense and income items in these reports that are NOT included in my budget. How do I rid myself of these items. They have already been de-activated in my Chart of Accounts. Thanks in advance for your help.

I had a problem like that once. Solved it by downloading the update and then running it.

Could somebody please help me?

I have the quickbooks windos version 4.0.

I have been using it for years and have installed it on three different computers. I recently replaced my computer again and tried to install QB but ran into a problem. Two files ( Install (a 65kb application file) and minst.miz (91kb)) can not be read off the diskette.

I am hoping to find somebody that still has Version 4.0 who can email those two files to me at [email protected].

I tried the support number and just got the $100.00 sales pitch.

Anyones help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

UGH! The people at Quickbooks are sooooo unhelpful.
Short story: I'm missing a file, Quickbooks.msi, to install a patch.
Because I purchased it in 2005 my warranty has run out "but I can get annual support at a mere $299!" And as I downloaded it off of them from the internet, I don't have the installation files.

It's a universal issue they encountered when Adobe came out with Flash Player 9.
Can't they just put the issue online with a link to the frickin' file and play nice?

So...

Anyone have any advice on how to get quickbooks.msi.

I'm heading back over to see if I can log into my account there and re-download it like I can at Macromedia/Adobe.

They're mean.

I have a new pc and I have installed the quickbooks program. The program works well except for the update. It will not let me update quickbooks. It tells me that the http proxy address is not resolved by the DNS. I have tried everything that I know to get it to update with no luck. The payroll will go through the steps of updating, but will not calculate the payroll taxes when I try tko write a payroll check. I have contacted the quickbook people and they tell me it is an internet problem, but my internet works fine on everything else. Could it be that my quickbook program will not work with my new WindowsXP???

Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

Hi Nancy
I work at a hospital in Brooklyn and the Quickbooks application has become a vital function in our finance department. I've been installing the application for a little over a year and have come across a few problems. I may be able to help at a junior technical level, but I'm no expert in the usage of the application.

Three questions:
1. Could there be a licensing issue? For instance, a five user license may not allow a sixth user to update the software. Of course, that all depends if the application was set up to share files among other users on a network.

2. If you were able to update the application on an older operating system (Win95 or Win98), it may well be the new operating system (WinXP) or you may have to re-install Quickbooks on the new OS. Also ensure that the version of Quickbooks you're using is supported by WinXP.

3. What internet browser and what version are you using to update? I can recall that an older version of the internet browser will sometimes prevent certain functions such as updating and connecting to certain sites.

Note: I know that you've spoken to Quickbooks reps about this problem. Be aware that these reps do not know all the answers. I have spoken to a few of them (INTUIT) and I couldn't get straight answers from them.

I have a QB Site we use but I could not find any thing specific to your problem. I would sace to C: drive and then copy to the USB drive as an interim.

This is the closest I found to your problem, if no one can help you here you should post there.

Has anyone tried to dowload Quickbooks Pro 2006

A:Quickbooks

Umm.. download? Do you mean install? One generally doesn't download commercial software, unless it's an electronic sale, which didn't generally happen in 2006. Or if they are pirating it.

I do know QuickBooks Pro 2005 worked on Windows 7, I would not expect any real problems with it.

Hello all,

I have a QuickBooks issue which has gone un answered in a QuickBooks forum on QuickBooks web site. So since everyone here is so much smarter than them any way I thought I would put my question here as well.

It would be really helpful if I could make some words in my line items bold, italic or underline them. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

I work for a PR firm and it would look way more professional if the name of publications were italic and other such items.

Thanks for your help ahead of time.
