I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have searched all the internets without luck, and maybe/probably don't know the correct vernacular so here goes.

In windows 7, when viewing the desktop... or when the mouse focus is off window (on desktop)... a "neat" feature of windows now is how you can resize all the icons with a crtl+wheel motion. Just click to the desktop, or have the focus there already, and viola, the crtl button plus a wheel move makes system wide changes to your desktop icon display.

Well I am not sure what version this new trick was invented in, but it is a cool trick... ONCE. After that its a really stupid annoyance that is just insanity because today, in real life, every other time I sit down my icons are moved around, or all jacked up, or they are out of place, or just out of order, or there are gaps, or some or all of the above... what kind of useful feature is that? Have you thought of a lock for this gadget at all? As in allow the customization, then tuck it away so its not a flaming hotkey 24/7?

Sure, the cause of this awesome trick of resizing the desktop with the scroll wheel, is my wife and kids. How did they PwN me with such 1337 h4x when they know nothing about root trickery and such... well easy, see just by using the PC on occasion, they have accidently cracked the code by accidently discovering this hack. Oh it took a while for me to solve that much sure, but once I did, it wasn't long before I discovered that this total PITA trick is actually a built in feature here... Read more

A:crtl zoom desktop icon resize driving me insane, please help disable??

I know what you mean. Tried it and f*** up my whole desktop's worth of icons.

Anyway, found a solution, although it requires a third-party program and it disables the combination of Ctrl+mouse wheel in any program, including browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome and similar) and games.

So, unless someone comes up with something better you can get ready for a l33t haxxorz thanks to a guy called rd2020 posted here.

Usual disclaimer, WARNING, this worked on my current PC, and the amount of testing it received is minimal (so far it works ). DO AT YOUR OWN RISK

Now, the third party program is the famous Autohotkey, so download it and install it. Go custom and select the 32 bit version. Probably either choice won't matter as this is a very tiny bit of code anyway but that's what I did.

Then create a new script, by creating a new notepad file on the desktop.

in the file, write

Code:
^WheelDown::return
^WheelUp::return
#MaxHotkeysPerInterval 1000
The ^ is "Ctrl" in this script language and the last line makes sure this script isn't executed hundreds of times per second.

Then save the file with the extension .ahk, like say "stopzoom.ahk". You might need to go in Folder Options (type "folder options" in the Start menu searchbox) --> View --> deselect "Hide extensions for known file types" to make sure that the file isn't being named "stopzoom.ahk.txt" as that is still a notepad document, not a script.

When it "becom... Read more

Howdy, my brother! He says the virus on his Y!Mail is hardware independent - and modeled the behavior he found at the motel - i.e. when he attempts to write a new email or forward one, a script inserts nuisance text in that message. After he experienced that on my pc, web browser windows now run a script which hijacks the Zoom-in / Zoom out control and locks-up at either the zoom in or out (out is worse) because you only see a corner of the raster.I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, AdAware, and my installed Avira AntiVir Guard - none of which detected anything but cookies. I installed some new camcorder software which rebooted the system. But after the Windows start-up screen, the screen just goes BLACK and the system is unresponsive. I booted in Safe Mode with Networking, downloaded and ran HijackThis to get log. I ran Dr.WebCureIt - which detected nothing in this mode. I have timely news video for CNN iReports Independence Day coverage which I seek to transfer from my camcorder to edit on this tower - if you would please help me get it back working again. Well, up until recently I've had no trouble with my new computer. After setting the zoom to 200% it's stayed that way. Now though it's taken to going back to default every 5 frickin' minutes! I had a previous Win7 computer that did exactly the same thing, it kept on resetting to default. Drove me absolutely nuts! Once every so often I can put up with, but not all the time!!!! Can anyone tell me what's up and how to fix it before I completely lose it!

I am not sure what this is called, but we've all seen this on TV (especially on shows like 20/20) where they take a regular picture...and as the picture is zoomed in, the subject of the photo is almost 3d, standing out from the background. How is this done? Is there a tutorial online anywhere?
I like creating photo slideshows and being able to do this would be nice...thanks!!

A:3d zoom? How?

Can't give you a step by step for a particular program, but basically you would start by duplicating the image, then cutting out the main subject.

So you have the original image on the bottom layer, and the cut-out subject on the top layer. If you do nothing else, no one would know that there are two layers, because they are identical except for the missing background in the top layer.

Apply the zoom-blur effect to the bottom layer. Now pretty much anything you do to the cut-out subject on the top layer will make it seem to pop out of the background. Lighten it. Enlarge it a bit. Add a subtle drop shadow. That's what I did to the still image attached. Because its visual properties are now different from the original image in the bottom layer, it'll just jump out at you, and it doesn't take much.

In video you can push in slowly on the cut-out subject, which is I think what they do on the tv programs.

Can you give some details of these computers - make, model and so on - it gives us something to go on.

When you say 'the bottom of the page', do you mean the task bar on the desktop, or at the bottom inside one application or another?  I am not familiar with a zoom control on the task bar but a lot of applications, from image viewers through graphics software to MS Office, have a zoom function. But this almost always uniformly expands or shrinks the complete page, text and everything included. And, more to the point, the zoom control goes wherever the designer of the software decided to put it.

A:How to zoom a web page in IE6?

When it comes to "wow" factor, Page Zoom is right up there with Quick Tabs.. its brilliant.

Page Zoom can be used not only to increase the size text and GRAPHICS on a Web page, it can also be used to increase or decrease the print size of pages (or parts thereof).

The keyboard shortcuts to manipulate Zoom settings are:

Ctrl + (zoom in)
Ctrl - (zoom out)
Ctrl 0 (set to 100%)

If you have a Wheel Mouse, hold down the ctrl key then spin up to zoom in, spin down to zoom out.

Zoom selection can also be controlled by the the Zoom menu on the status bar.

Is this a browser feature or a desktop feature? I'll assume it's a browser feature.

Internet Explorer 7 has a maximize/minimize feature on the bottom 'view/Status Bar' The feature would sit just above the clock on your systray while IE 7 is in full screen mode.

To see the Menu Bar in IE 7;

Hi there, I've been trying to install my Zoom PCI modem within Winfax pro but Winfax doesn't see my modem.

A:Winfax and Zoom DSL PCI

Let me get this straight..

You want Winfax to recognise an ADSL modem for fax calls?
This modem is not a 56k Dial up as well, just ADSL?

If so, no can do.

ADSL runs "over" the phone line / cable, not "through" it.

Fax's operate through the dial-up process and cannot be accessed by ADSL modems.
You need a 56k fax/modem for that, not ADSL.

Now I'm not a computer expert so I have no idea how to get rid of it, I'v uninstalled the application that was in my programs list and tries changing back my homepage (even though they show they werent changed) but every time i open a browser it goes to the Nation Zoom webpage and its getting very very annoying !!! I use AVG antivirus and am currently doing a scan but nothing has been found. Any help would be great! I would very much like it gone!

In my new big monitor everything looks huge in IE8. If I set the Zoom to about 80%, everything looks equal in size as in Firefox.
Problem is, when IE gets restarted Zoom goes back to its default setting of 100%.
Is there a way to change the default value? I noticed the registry has references to it, but I have no idea what to enter to make the change:

My daughters laptop has started displaying the "End Program" box whenever she shuts down (this box doesn't appear everytime though).

The program that supposedly is not responding is "Zoom In", i have taken it into a computer shop and they are unable to find what this is, they even checked all of the registry information.

The laptop is an Acer Expensa and is running windows XP, has anyone any idea what this is and why this is happening?? it's more of a nuisance than anything else.
