Faint Banding across the screen

Q: Faint Banding across the screen

Intel I7 4790k (Stock clock, Hyper 212plus cooler)
16 GB Corsair Vengence 1866 DDR3
ASUS Sabertooth Mark2
XFX R9 270x 2Ghz (Stock Clock)
CoolerMaster 650 PSU (Bronze Rating)
I have faint banding across the screen. It only shows up once into windows(Does not appear in BIOS at all... at least that i can tell) and shows across ALL applications. It only is really noticable on darker images like grays but not so much on black. The bands are of altrenating thickness (Small/Large Small/Large), but are not very wide at all. Thin little bands spaced out and altrenating like i said. They do not move, though if i bring up an image or a dialog box, it will create the same banding acorss those windows and stay with that window/dialog while the ones normally there pass over it.
I use HDMI to HDMI on a 40" Toshiba TV.
What i have done to trouble shoot is this so far:
Clean installed GPU Drivers. (Uninstall, restart, install, restart)
Changed to a different display that i know did not have banding. (Still had banding)
Change cables to a DVI to HDMI cable.(Still hand banding)
What i have not done *yet*:
Remove video card and restart using intigrated graphics port.
Remove video card and install into previous machine that did not have any issues at all.
Heres further background story:
I built a computer a month or so ago [ AMD A10 7850k, XFX 270x (same card in current), 8GB Corsair Vengence(Same stick in unit +1), MSI A88x G45 GAMING mobo., 650w CoolerMaster (same unit in current). I was fairly disappointed with the performance as i am an aspiring streamer and it just wasnt cutting it. So i ordered the I7, Mobo and a new case (Rosewill THOR V2 its a nice case ^^). Everything was running fine on the other build, it just wasnt fast enough for what i wanted it to do. As soon as i set up the new box i noticed the windows. It wasnt very noticeable before i put in the graphics drivers, but i did notice something wasnt exactly right.... i just figured it was related to running through the graphics card without drivers. Once i installed the drivers and restarted, it was very noticable on the blue user login screen and once into windows, the background that i had chosen was also drawn with variable sized lines that made it look like it was a very poorly drawn gradiant. (im going to have to get you pictures possibly to explain this fully)
It effects all range of applications/images/video/games... its irritating that i just spent over 1000$ on hardware (total between the two machines) and i end up with sub quality video. It doesnt make anything illegable or unplayable... its just an annoance. Though being as i have a very nice CPU, a respectable Mobo, and a decent GPU... i feel i shouldnt have to deal with even the slightest quality loss. I feel like im justified for being a bit put out and disappointed on this.
Ive tried everything i can think of to fix it, i have googled and googled and googled and have only come across people talking about VGA adapters causing the problem and that fixes there issues... but i dont use VGA adapters... I use HDMI and DVI cables.
Im hoping this month old video card isnt shot already, nothing more disapointing that buying a 200$ item and having it crap out in a very short amount of time. Please help me figure out why this is doing what its doing and save me from buying a new card! Though honestly im drooling over some better cards already! XP But that might not be my problem...
Thanks in advance, hope we can figure it out. I can do anything that needs to be done to help diagnose... Pictures/screenshots ect, ect.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I have a Y700 Ideapad, and a couple of months ago I started getting a little yellow discoloration in the bottom corners of the screen. Since then, it has gotten worse and now looks like two bands of discoloration on both edges of the display (see attached image).?   What is this problem and how can I fix it?

I have a Yoga x1 gen2 I got last fall that's developed the screen banding problems that people occasionally experience.  I called in yesterday, 8/17/18 and spoke with support.  I have a 3 year onsite warranty.  Support said I would be called for the repair to be arranged.  Good. Now today, 8/18, I get an email saying the part is not available and has to be ordered.  It would be nice if a time frame were indicated, it's a work laptop.  So I call the 800 number and am told that the part will not be available until next year.  NEXT YEAR, I gasp.  The guy tells me "maybe you can send it in and get it repaired, that might be quicker." Words fail me.  Irresponsible?  Incompetent?  Dishonest?  (We are talking about "onsite repair," aren't we?)   What is going on here?  Who can I talk with about this?  The guy I spoke with was clueless.  If this is true, then we should put the word out that warranty coverage is essentially worthless.  I hope you can provide help and not condolences.

My Dell Inspiron 1100 is over 6 years old at this point, quite the dinosaur. However, I still have a bit of old data I would love to remove before it really bites the dust.

When I boot up the machine, usually the display is clear and bright. However, after no more than a minute the screen goes black and only a faint outline of the desktop remains. What is the problem and what do I need to do to solve it?

A:Dell Inspiron 1100 screen goes black 30 secs after booting up, faint screen outline

backlights or invertor board is failing (failed).

If there is an external monitor socket on it use a monitor to see the screen and then you can backup your data.

The screen on my Portege R600-11B has suddenly gone extremely dim. There's no problem with it coming back to life after hibernation - but it still coems back extremely dim. The brightness does flash up when I press the button at the top right hand corner with a sun symbol on.

I think I might need an FL Invertor? Do you know how I find out which one I need and instructions on how to fit it?

Also I've had problems with Windows 7 Professional starting up incredibly slowly. I'm assuming the two problems are not related.

Hope you can help, thanks.

A:Portege R600-11B - Screen is very faint

I recommend connecting an external monitor.
If the picture on the external monitor would be fine, then your internal display or maybe the FL inverter needs to be replaced.
You ask how to check this?
Well, I?m afraid each part need to be checked using another good tested part.

In your case I would ask an specialist for assistance?
Is warranty valid? If yes then I would recommend to contact an Toshiba service in your country.

I searched on the Internet to see what the problem is, and believe that we are dealing with a 'Black Screen of Death'?

Anyone able to tell me whats wrong or have any suggestions as to what we can do to resolve the issue?

Dear mods, I have noted a faint white dash (about 3 inches) in the middle of my P51 Screen which appeared a couple of days back. It looks somewhat like a stuck/dead pixel case. As possible solutions, I have tried the following : i. Battery Drain for 30 mins, and re-checkii. Disable/Enable the Graphic Card Provided that there are no easy solutions, I wish to know whether the replacement of screen of my product (which is still under warranty) will be covered or not? Regards,B.

My screen suddenly went very dark, though I am able to faintly see the HP logo at startup. I've tried plugging it into an external monitor, yet I get nothing. I have now replaced both the backlight and the inverter, yet there is no improvement. Is it possible that I have a software or driver problem? I can see (with a flashlight on the screen), that during the startup process a screen comes up that says something about startup repair. Any ideas??

A:Pavilion G60 black/faint screen issue

When you plug into an external monitor, are you remembering the key- combination required to set to external monitor that is on your keyboard?

Laptops do not automatically enable a remote display, you must tell it its there.

Also if you have a removeable video card, the card itself may have died, but it sounds to me like the tube or inverter is either wired backwards, or not getting good power. Do you have brightness/darkness key on your keyboard? Usually looks like a circle, half is black, half is white.

A:faint lines on screen of Dell Inspiron 5160

Try plugging it into an external monitor to see if that works properly. (if you have a desktop computer, use that monitor)

A monitor should plug into most notebooks on the back or side somewhere, and you may have to do some keystroke or change a setting in the display options panel to enable that external output. But if you can get it to display on the external monitor without any trouble, that means your screen is probably bad.

Satellite Pro L40-17H (PSL4BE-00T005EN)

I would appreciate some help with the following problem:

SYMPTOMS: Screen is black, but I can see that there is a faint image in the background.
I get a good image in external monitor.

I suspect, _among others_, that there may be a faulty *lid sensor/switch*, but I have been unable to locate it, although I have disassembled the unit.

If somebody knows, please let me have the exact *location* where I should look for the switch.
Thank you

A:Satellite Pro L40: black screen but faint image in the background

> I suspect, among others, that there may be a faulty lid sensor/switch,

No, I don?t think its sensor issue.
I assume the FL inverter is faulty.

The FL inverter controls the backlight of LCD display module.
Therefore this part should be checked and if necessary, it should be replaced.

horizontal faint lines when in full screen games. using d3doverider(bundled with rivatuner) calms it alot and makes it dissapear in alot of games. i'm convinced it's to do with the graphics card being too fast or ''too good' for the screen and the image somehow can't keep up which causes the lines. was thinking about getting a 100hz refresh rate. Hello Joe, and welcome to Sevenforums

No, your graphics card speed shouldn't effect your monitor's ability to interpret it. Is it set to 60MHz?

If you could please Fill out your system specs (this tool may help you out a great deal), it would help find a fix to your problem.
You shouldn't have to install anything to fix that problem. Does this change when you lower the graphics settings? Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card (I can help you look after you enter your system specs)?
How many watts does your power supply have, and what kind is it (You could put that info into the system specs)? *EDIT [[just found you mentioned it already]]*
What is wrong with keeping v-sync and triple buffer on? Does the game not have these options?
Is any part of your computer too hot or overheating, and does it get enough airflow? Have you cleaned out all the dust recently?
Does your new card have a control panel (from the driver) that can force v-sync and triple buffering? I wouldn't use third party software as a fix to my graphical problems unless as a last resort. See if disabling them helps at all

I understand the process is called 'banding', but I could be wrong.

I'd like Excel to automatically shade every other row of a spreadsheet so there is more of a distinction between rows, especially when it's printed. I know I can do this manually, but it's not very efficient.

Excel is so powerful I'm surprised there isn't a simple button for it.

The 'Format as Table' option looks promising, but anytime I try it, it asks me for a formula which doesn't exist.

I'm using Excel 07.

Your thoughts?

Earlier today I plugged in a second monitor to my laptop and there's banding on most videos I watch and most scales I view. I took two pictures of the issue on my iPhone, I attached the pictures below. I've tried messing around with my Intel Graphics Panel and the monitor settings itself. I've managed to minimize it from where it was in the beginning but it's still very noticeable to me. Is there anything I should try to fix it?
I believe this is the monitor I'm using. I'm also using this VGA to HDMI adapter.

I recently purchased a new LG 24" Widescreen 1080p HD Monitor, however am experiencing some problems with it.

On some high resolution images 1080p 24bit images I get some colour banding, same can be said for SD and HD videos. Plus on the Windows GUI

Just wondering if someone knows what the problem actually is?

According to the LG website your monitor eliminates color banding when using HDMI with version 1.3 , if you don't use a cable with these specifications it may be part of the problem.

For the last 8 months I've been having what started off as general Color Banding, and has turned into I don't even know what now.

Firstly, though I have had and have absolutely 0 performance or stability issues with this rig. Everything runs fast, everything runs smooth, temps are stellar on both GPU and the CPU. This computer runs like a dream in that regard. Which is good and bad. Good because the well, a fast stable rig is good, bad though because it doesn't help me pinpoint the problem which is omnipresent.

To start off, I've attached some jpg images of the problem. It's not related to just one game, I can find the issue in every game I'll play. I can even see banding on this forums background, it's not severe due to the backgrounds light colors but it's there. In the screenshots it might be hard to see if you have your monitor really dark though. Also you should make the picture fullscreen, 1920x1080.

Also possible related, is streamed videos lately appear somewhat grainy/pixelated, not all, but some. And they seam be constantly refreshing every .25 seconds. You have to really look to see it. Like even a stable background of stream, you'll see it constantly sync into place as is the best I can describe it. Like it will be clear, then .25 seconds it will refresh grainy to clear. Just general streamed video crappiness, that wasn't there 8 months ago. Also you know that default Windows 7 HD video that is installed of the horse running, ya that looks like shit and defi... I recently upgraded to Windows 7, I have been using my Dell E207WFP flawlessly with Windows XP for about 3 years now. I use the monitor with a PC I built myself and i've never once had a problem with it.
Since my upgrade to Windows 7 i've had extreme gradient banding, I cannot explain it very easily but dark gradients are just so badly banded, there is lines instead of a smooth gradient. I installed all updates I could find, I've tried to do all tests I can possibly do and configured my gamma etc. I'm not new to PCs so I really have gone deep down into the techy stuff to try and fix this but I'm completely out of ideas now. The banding is unbearable, no dark gradient is near smooth; it's just horrible but I never had this issue with XP. I am aware Win7 has a lot more visual options and i've gone through these to try and fix it but I just cannot do it.

If anyone has any ideas or tips i'd appreciate it, thanks a lot.

Hello All --
I recently purchased a S2716DG,  To my dismay it exhibits HIDEOUS banding issues, which I can't figure out.  I have attempted color calibration with a spyder 5. Removing calibration entirely, etc.  I have tired other solutions suggested on forums.  I am on an Nvidia GTX 1080.
Below is a picture of the problem (during H.264 playback - but it occurs in games, etc. as well) and most noticeably in the dark areas of images.   Is this a bad panel?  Along side a picture of my second monitor (a samsung) which I simply dragged the player across onto! (the banding is gone)

I got a new Toshiba TV for my computer which has turned out to be a big mistake, it is definitely compatible with a PC VGA input but certainly not made for it. It's impossible to get a crisp sharp picture. But I can't complain, it's usable and doesn't look too bad.

One of the first things I faulted it for was the terrible banding effect in games which I had never seen before getting this TV. Usually with darker shades or near-black, colours don't blend together properly and instead produce ugly lines between each colour shade. Most noticeable in Skyrim loading screens where the smoke rises from the bottom of the screen, it used to be normal and smoke-like where the shades blended together, but now the shades are abrupt and edged. Also seen in Minecraft in any dark place, shades don't blend well - they just jump from light to dark with no blending in between, with those jagged borders between each shade. These are just two examples but I see them everywhere.

It's also seen in videos too, especially if t... Read more

I have a 4 yr old canon which has been an excellent printer until now. I changed the ink recently and ever since it has put bands through my photos. Canon put me though a bunch of email questions which I answered - nozzle check, deep cleaning etc. which I had done. I responded to them but they did not answer. I guess it is just too old. I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled but to no avail. I read that perhaps the print head is shot. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding this? Thanks.

A:Canon ip4000 banding on photos

When Canon had you go through hoops, did they ever ask you to raise the gray handle and pull the print head assembly out? This would be the first thing I'd check, as it could be something as simple as trash over the printheads (which no amount of jet cleaning will get rid of). Take it out and check out the bottom of the assembly.

If there seems to be nothing there, doing a dessert dish cleaning might help (yes, a dessert or cake dish).

Take a cake dish and put a layer of 409 or Fantastik cleaner on it (Do NOT use Windex or glass cleaner, as this can actually dry it out in the long run). Place the heads in this and let them sit for a half hour to an hour (you might want to sit the ink carts in their positions while it is soaking to keep the receptors wet). You only want the heads in the cleaner. When done, take a Q-Tip, dip it in the cleaner and give the heads a quick swabbing. Leaving the head wet, reinstall the assembly, insert the inks and give it a try.

The thing to remember is that the iP4000 series uses the 3 and 6 inks, which are old (as you stated above). Finding a replacement print head is going to be difficult soon. I did find these folks with your head, in case this cleaning does not work (http://www.precisionroller.com/print-heads-for-canon-pixma-ip4000/products.html) so it depends on whether you want to plunk down $80 for a new head Vs a new printer.

hey guys i know this is kind of an older problem, but its been creeping up on me recently.

New Lenovo Z50-75 just arrived. Immediately noticed the banding issues when viewing any photos whether it be in windows photo viewer or photoshop or on websites. Updated all the drivers and still the same issues.  Tried drawing a simple gradient in photoshop and the banding is significant.See video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaXAN9WA9_g Tried connecting to an external display to see if the issue was the display or the graphics card/software. After connecting HDMI I get a pop up about installing drivers and then BSOD! See photo attached In addition to this the reflections are terrible. I knew this was not going to be a matt screen but with 5 other laptop models here none have the reflections this extreme. Can something be done about the banding and external display connectivity with software or should I just return this? Same images and tests carried out on two other laptops (one is 25% cheaper than the Z5 and the other is significantly more expensive) and neither had any of these issues.

I've got a new HP Pavilion x360 with touchcreen, Intel i3 6GB Ram. It all seemed normal, until I got to realize that it has a terrible color banding issue. The video card is an Intel(R) HD Graphics 520. I started looking into the video card settings and the monitor, looking for faulty drivers or something to show me a problem, but nothing comes up. It tells it's working on True Colors (32-bit), and I compared it to my other old laptop and settings look alike (despite the OS difference -W7 and W10). I work in graphic design, so to me is specially awful to have this 1996-monitor problem in a 2016 laptop.  Here's an example, a screenshot of a simple gradient created with a photo editor program: In photos, it looks less terrible. However, it still looks as if the pictures were very low resolution.  Any ideas on what I can do, or did this happen to anyone? I'm really disappointed and suprised to see such a problem in a new computer. I have and work with computers since 1998 and I never seen such a thing, never ever. This is my 3rd HP already and I was never to expect such a problem. For the rest the computer is really good, in spite of Windows 10. Thanks.

When the computer (N6K85UP#ABA) is attached to a A7E34AA#ABA docking station with two monitors attached, one portrait and the other landscape, and the notebook open (i.e. 3 screens visible), when the computer starts up or awakes, the portrait monitor has banding along its bottom quarter. Workaround:I can clear the problem by changing the portrait display resolution to any other resolution and the screen is fine once the screen refreshes. I can also clear the problem by unplugging the HDMI cable for that monitor and reconnecting. Failed Fixes:New monitor and HDMI cableNew mother boardUpdated Intel graphic driver My graphics drivers are:Intel  DameWare Development Micro Devices, Inc. 13.352.1018.1001(as a side question, does this computer use the Intel processor or a graphics card for the display)

The Cyan color on my printer is creating bands about 1/4" wide on both plain and photo paper. I have done repeated cleanings and alignments using tools in the software. Canon support will not answer my questions. How do I clean (I am assuming that is the problem) the nozzles/head of this kind of printer? It is 2 1/2 years old and I'd sure like to no have to buy a new one.

Hey, all. First time posting, so I hope this is the right sub to ask in.

I've been having a weird problem with Windows where many colors are not treated correctly. Here are some screenshots:

Before you ask, I've:
-Determined the problem is not the graphics card or monitors.
-Uninstalled and reinstalled display drivers (although I might have done so incorrectly)

Any help or suggestions is appreciated!

I'm a graphic designer, i have been searching for a solution for the gradient banding of the display for this model, i haven't found anything, hoping for a fix or at least to continue the report of this very ugly issue. I have found that it have something to do with the color depth and the dithering. Please don't mark it as "solved" because tilting or adjusting the position of the display doesn't fix anything and the gradient banding or blacks squares are very noticeable from every angle. I cannot work on this computer, please offer a real fix.Lenovo z50-75AMD FX 7500 with AMD R7.Windows 10 updated.Bios updated.AMD drivers updated.

Have a Hp ZT1175 lap top about 5 yrs old, used in car alot month ago display would go blank, reboot ok for a while now very faint, Lcd bad? maybe interconnection between body and Lcd at hinge? any ideas

A:Lap Top Lcd Faint

I have that same model laptop. I did have a problem with the cable thru the hinge, but it presented itself as blank screen (no backlight).

Check the f7/f8 keys which control screen brightness. See if the setting is less than MAX right now.

If you are using the laptop in sunlight....it is not great

Hello everyone, I'll get straight to the point. I have Windows 7 64 bit installed on my PC. I installed GTA 5 on my PC. It started crashing, I checked the event log yesterday for the cause of the issue. It stated that GTA 5 had problems with "KernelBase.dll" and "Kernel32.dll". So I moved those files to the desktop (NOT DELETED). So when I finished playing GTA 5 I moved those files back to the "System32" folder. But today when I was playing GTA 5, I got a blue screen of death, and the system tried to restart. It said

"Boot Manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3.Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."

I shouldn't have to insert the disk considering I have the files in the desktop. Is there any other way to do it without the disk, because I installed Windows 7 from a disk that my friend gave me and I had to return it to him, plus my CD/DVD drive sometimes has problems reading disks. Please help me, I'm so scared right now.

A:Please help me or I'll faint!

Perhaps you can use a Live Linux distro, and copy from that. Linux Mint MATE is a popular distro, you can download the ISO and burn to CD/DVD or make a bootable USB flash drive using Rufus. When you boot with it, make sure you TRY and not install. Once on desktop, copy paste the files back into original places.

Also, do you have windows 7 64 bit repair disk? Repair CD - System Repair Disk
You could perhaps copy them back in command prompt.

I have a Dell Inspiron M4050 that had a cracked screen. I have replaced the screen with a second hand one.
However the display is very faint and barely readable.
I have searched online and found that this is either an issue with the screen or the inverter.
I cannot find an inverter on this model.
Am I right in assuming that it's attached to the rear of the screen?

Thanks very much.

A:Very faint LCD display

Hi p5aul789,Thanks for posting. There are several different screens available for that model. Be sure you've purchased the correct screen. You may be able to find what you need from www.parts-people.com.

Could someone tell me why all of a sudden, when I either read or type the lower case letter 'f' it appears faint in comparison with other letters. It didn't used to be like that.

A:Faint letter

Hi welcome to seven forum

thats a strainge issue. maybe try a restore point before the issue started. can you post a screen shot of what you are seeing? this might sound unreasonable but try another monitor to test.

Sound on my laptop (Fosa PentiumM 1.6, 1GB Ram, 60GB HD, WinXPsp2) seemed to die a few days ago and I couldn't get it working again. When I plugged in headphones and cranked the volume slider up, I could hear a VERY faint sound being played.
From the actual laptop speakers, I hear nothing, although it could be so faint that it doesn't register - my built in speakers are pretty lousy.

After alot of troubleshooting, I reinstalled Windows and then the driver disk that came with the laptop. I'm still having the same problem.

This laptop I got second hand from someone else and I doubt they would have ever used headphones with it. And since that is when it seemed to happen, I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.

I'm just not sure where to go at this point.

Thanks for any insight!

If I had to guess, I would say you are having a Hardware problem. I think that you have blown out the amp in the sound card.

I'm looking at a Samsung 151V 15" LCD. I've plugged it into 3 computers now to make sure it's the monitor and not the card or such. The picture is there, but it is very, very faint. Lot's of straining to make it out. It flashes normal for half a second at start up and I can shine a flash light on it and see the screen. I have tried adjusting the various settings which is very difficult as you can't really see what you're doing at all. (the flashlight makes it a little easier) Any ideas on what the problem might be?

A:Solved: Monitor very faint

The backlight or the invertor is gone.

Its cheaper to get a new one then to have someone fix it for you. You can find 17" LCD's for around a $100.

PC Dell Dimension 9150
Windows XP SP3 home edition

Moved the PC the other dau and all went blank.
After switching on and off all started finctioning ok except for sound. Very faint and crackly at the highest volume.
I am connected to the 5.1 Dell speaker system.
Have checked that all volume leves are up, sound card Creative SB X fi is working and drivers are current, no issues indicated in Device manager.
Have also checked that the speakers are connected exactly as advised by Dell. Recoonected everything and even restored the system to previous date but alas without success.
Plugging in a headphone at the front works fine but speakers don't.
Can anyone out there provide guidance as to how I can possible resolve this issue?
Thanks for taking the time to read my issue.
