A rogue webpage opens on plugging in charger

Q: A rogue webpage opens on plugging in charger

I recently bought a new Dell XPS 15 9550 laptop. Whenever I plug in the charger to charge the laptop, the IMDb webpage of the movie "Don't Breathe" opens. This only happens once, i.e. when I plug the charger for the first time and not after that. It's a really bizarre problem, which I am not understanding. Can someone else please shed a light on this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You'll want to give the system a deep scan with a malware removed - the free version of malwarebytes will clean up the system just fine.

I have a Lenovo G50-80 (Model: 80E5). The issue I am facing is that whenever i plug in the charger irrespective of the amount of battery charged it sometimes turns off the laptop. One of the things i have observed is that if I plugin the charger inserting the jack very slowly into the charging port it usually does not turn off. Has anyone else have this kind of a problem and can help me with this! Its really annoying to have your laptop restart whenever I have to plug it in. (My laptop is almost 3 years old but the problem came up after 2 years i believe.  Suggestions are welcome!!!!!!!

Hi I've been using my X220i for the last 3 years or so and decided to upgrade to an i7 X230 a few days ago. After a few days of no problems, using the same charger I've been using on my X220 (the 90w slim travel charger) I plugged it in to charge while the laptop was powered on. The laptop powered off instantly and now it will not power on again. There are no status lights visible and nothing happens when I plug it in. I have done all the steps of removing the battery and pressing the power button etc and on putting the battery back in the fingerprint sensor light was flickering orange - it is now back to no signs of life at all again other than the left side of the palmrest gets hot when I insert the battery. I am strongly suspecting a fault with the charger fried the motherboard when I plugged it in but am wondering if anyone else has any suggestions before i try to make a claim within my remaining 1 week of warranty. Thnaks

My laptop (HP Envy dv7) recently forced a Windows 8.1 update. Ever since, whenever I plug or unplug the charger, the screen goes black for a second or two. Troubleshooting didn't fix it? Help is much appreciated.

That means your display driver is not usable for windows 8 and windows 8.1. I would advise you to download and install Windows 7 display driver in compatibility mode and review if it helps.
There are few steps to set up window 7 display driver

Install & download display driver
Right click on the driver & go the properties
Select compatibility’ tab and test the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and click Windows 7 operating system from the drop down.
Finally click on button ”apply” then “ok” and run the file to install it

The past few days, my laptop has been freezing after about 20 minutes (lately the amount of time has been decreasing to now about 15 minutes). First it would only freeze if it went idle but now it's freezing randomly. It would only freeze when I plug in my charger.

I replaced my adapter to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't. I also tried changing my set up so that my computer wouldn't sleep but still, it would freeze. I also launched CCleaner to try and clean up my registry and though it did fix up some problems, yes once again, my laptop would freeze.

I installed several anti-virus/malware programs as well but none of them seemed to work. They wouldn't detect anything through quick scan but once I try full scan, it would freeze. I tried going into safe mode, but before making it in, my laptop would stop and go into regular mode. And just a few minutes ago, I got the blue screen of death.

Please help!

A:My laptop freezes 10-20 minutes after plugging in my charger.

Make sure the charger has same specs as original factory one.

Hi, my new Acer V Nitro laptop makes a short, beep tone (coming from the speakers) when I plug and unplug the charger. I have read online that it is due to the driver and/or BIOS and I have done everything to disable it (installing new driver, searching for options in sound menu of Windows, going into the BIOS settings...). Finally, I have found the solution: deactivating the autostart of Realtek Audio driver on Windows start. Do you think that it is normal to hear this tone? I have completely reinstalled Windows and the tone finally reappeared (only after installing all updates). Thanks,

A:Beep tone when plugging the charger - Acer V Nitro...

Hi, Well it makes a beep to tell you that the charger has been plugged in. Nothing wrong with this. It makes the same beep when you unplug the charger. It is normal, and it is implemented on more acer notebooks, not just yours.

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with a method to enable sounds for when you plug in or remove a charger connected to your laptop. It is not a problem with my pc, but is an option that is not available for me which i would like to install to let me know if i accidentally unplugged the charger, particularly if I'm working on a full-screen feature. Any help would be appreciated.
I have Windows 7 home Premium 32-bit installed.

A:How to enable sound when plugging/unplugging charger for laptop.

In the System Sounds, there is an option for device connect or disconnect. This will probably do what you want. You will have to assign a sound for those functions.

The System Sounds panel can be accessed from Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sounds. Click on "Change System Sounds".

I recently bought a wireless 3G USB modem / hot spot. Although i use it primarily by plugging in my PC USB port, It just occurred to me that my smartphone charger also has a USB port. So i was wondering if i can use the modem by using the charger USB port or not. That way i will not have to keep my PC powered on all the time. My charger has a output rating of 5V and 830mA. I reckon there shouldn't be a problem but want to be sure lest i damage the modem.

EDIT: The title should read 'Power' instead of 'Charge'. Apologies for any confusion caused !!

Just noticed this whenever I plug or unplug the charger. The laptop lags for 1-2 seconds before returning to normal. This is noticeable when playing games or watching videos. Haven't seen any abnormal drops or spikes with the temperature of the CPU, GPU and HDD which would suggest a hardware issue. Tried doing this while running 3DBenchmark, and there is a huge drop in FPS, from 130-200fps down to almost 16fps esp. when unplugging the charger. Is this normal?

Hey - on an E560 here, but I'm sure other E series with the Connexant Audio drivers also have this issue - how do we prevent the Connexant SmartAudio from opening and asking us to tell it what type of audio playback device is plugged whenever we plug in a headphone? it's quite annoying and it also pops up when unplugging, and is often unresponsive to clicks.

A:SmartAudio opens whenever plugging in jack

I had this problem too, but I believe I've found the solution. Simply download and install the audio driver found here on Lenovo's site: http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-e560/do... I installed it just the other day and now the SmartAudio window no longer pops up when I plug in headphones.

HI There,

I'm new to this so sorry if it is a bit lame.

I'm concerned that (roughly) every third time I start my PC, IE 11 starts itself once I've logged in and Slashdot.org website is displayed. I never set this up...it only started recently.

I have screen shot but am not sure how to display it in the post.

I run AdAware Pro Security, and have done scans using System Mechanic, Spybot and Malwarebytes. My PC in running Windows 8.1 Pro. System and software is fully updated. I can see anything in the task scheduler that might be doing this.

The behavior in itself is not an issue (tho annoying), but I am concerned something else might underlie it.

Help as to what this is and how to fix it would be much appreciated.

Is the site my computer keeps opening, if its already opened chrome will open up a new tab and will continue to do so. I have a WRT 110 Linksys router but I also have 3 other computers using the exact same router/network and my laptop is the only one that keeps trying to open this page.

If I leave my computer sitting idle for a while I can come back and find 5+ tabs opened up in google chrome to the address, even if chrome wasnt opened when I left my computer. Changing the default browser also does nothing, it'll just continue to open the same page in say firefox or whatever I change the browser too.

I've blocked the IP to the site in windows firewall and that doesnt stop it either, chrome just informs me that it cant connect to the website. And it will continue to open up new tabs regardless.

...Im at wits end here this is so damn annoying and I cant figure out why its happening :\

Can anyone suggest anything??

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.

If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

Help! I've lost my multiple selection ability in IE 6. Everytime I ctrl-click on any part of a webpage, even a multiple-entry listbox or page link, IE opens up a new webpage pointing to my Home page (Google). I've looked extensively through the settings, both for IE and any other apps that control Keyboard input and i can't seem to fix it. Anyone else had the same problem, or know how to fix it? Info greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I clicked on a link to a video posted on Facebook. The link went to a video website but the video did not play. After that Avira showed me a warning about an TR/Sirefef.BV.2 in file Windows/system32/avpunic.dll. I pressed remove, but the warning kept coming up. After a restart I had a strange window from a Mini Webbrowser blocking the login screen. I closed this window and was able to login.

Windows gave me a warning about having to close Ping.exe or so.

During visiting bleepingcomputer.com I had a random IE window open that I had trouble closing. After I finally did I had another warning from Avira about a Infected.Webpage.Gen. I did not do anything but run your recommended scans instead. When I opened IE to post the log another random IE window opened on its own with the website videos.hollyscoop.com.

I would be very thankful if you could help me removing the virus/maleware I somehow got on my computer. The logs are below and attached. Thanks so much!

When I plug the charger in the message on the battery icon on the bottom toolbar reads as "73%, plugged in, not charging". Obviously the laptop is recognising the charger (i.e "plugged in") but it is not allowing the battery to charge.
I have installed every update on the computer and I have recently searched for any outstanding BIOS updates. The system seems to suggest there is a BIOS update to be installed yet when I try to install it the system says that it cannot detect a charger, and won't complete the update, or it won't complete the update without a charger plugged in in the first place. It's a no-win situation. The computer and charger are only 14 months old so this is very unsatisfactory. When I remove the battery the computer operates on AC power only, so again the charger is working, it simply won't charge the battery and therefore once the battery runs down to 0, which it will eventually, I will be limited to using AC power only.
If I restart the laptop with the charger plugged in it diverts me to a warning page saying that the charger is not recognised and I am given the option to go to the BIOS setup, go to diagnostics or to continue. If I choose "continue" it simply returns me to this warning page every time so the only way to power up the laptop is to do so with the AC charger out, and to then plug it in once the system has started so that the battery doesn't drain completely.
Please help.

A:Inspiron 15 5559 charger not charging battery (manufacturers charger being used)

An unrecognized AC adapter will not charge the battery.
First try a new OEM Dell adapter.  If that's also not recognized, replace the DC power jack:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
If neither the new adapter nor the DC jack solves the problem, you've got a bad charge circuit - replace the mainboard.

Now, I wanted to use it but it's not working. My battery is addicted, basically, if I don't have a charger I won't be able to turn on the computer.
So when I plugged the charger on the wall, the light on the box charger was solid (it didn't blink); However when I plugged it in the computer the light blinked.
I don't know what's the problem and I would like to fix it, if possible.

Recently I bought a charger for my HP G61-110SA which was just a replacement adapter. Now yesterday it did something weird. Basically, there are two pictures of the two indicators there are to show whether it is charging, one is on the front and one is next to the port on the side. Basicaally the charger wasnt changing the indicator on the side or the one on screen but the one on the front was working when I turned it on. By default the laptop chages brightness when plgged in but now it sort of brightens a bit (not to the full level as should do) and then goes back to normal. Today the laptop is still doing the same but the front light now only turns on for a few seconds before turning off! I dont know whether it is charging. Is this the laptop or the charger. Any help would be useful, I have attatached the side indicator and the front one

UPDATE: I found a website which said you could turn it off and start without battery but with charger and then turn off and use both. However, I turned it off and removed the battery and it wouldnt charge. Then I put the battery in and it started charging-weird. Also the light on the front doesnt last very long so I am stuck. ANY HELP?

I have already tried the EASE ACCESS option but could'nt find to stop this Short Cuts as these keys are well working in My virtual machine , Can any one suggest the answer of it.

A:Keyboard shorcuts opens, when i press R it opens the RUN Command window & when i press E it opens the My computer , How should i remove these shorcuts. When i use these keys in my Virtual machine it works fine, Kindly guide me in this issue

Hi ABDUL WASI,
Thanks for the post!
It seems the shortcut keys are messed up. Did you get this issue before?
By default, Win+R is used to open Run command, and Win+E for opening Computer. It seems these shortcut keys are changed. Now, if you press Win+R or Win+E, which windows will show?
If you figure out which application used this two shortcuts keys. Right-click the application, choose Properties - Shortcut Tab, what's behind the Shortcut key box? Change it with another shortcuts key.
Also fully scan your computer, and if you have a backup, a system restore could help you come back to a nearlier time.
