vmware release 12.5.0 fails on Bridged networking from Wifi host

Q: vmware release 12.5.0 fails on Bridged networking from Wifi host

Hi there

not a big problem but if my HOST has a wifi connection to the internet then a VM (or at least Networking) )doesn't work when enabling BRIDGED networking (NAT works OK but I need Bridged !!))

If I connect the host to my internet via Ethernet or to a "Wifi-->Ethernet bridge" then bridged networking is fine.

I usually use the wifi-ethernet bridge anyway as it's humungously more stable than the basic wifi cards (and the bridge connects to my Internet at fast 5GHZ wifi - avoiding contention problems on 2.4GHZ network).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you'renrunning your Guest(s) as client only (versus server) why not just use NAT instead of Bridged networking? Or am I misunderstanding your problem and need to physically remove the V-Box bridged driver?

I don't need help, I just wanted to post my solution.

I recently setup the latest version of Vmware player on Ubuntu 13.04 and found myself unable to download the tools for it. error try again later or something along those lines. I searched about online for answers but google only presented 1 relevant topic and it didn't have a solution. Anyways I've discovered how to get around this, it's quite obvious really, I feel dumb for taking so long to figure it out. Lauch VMware player as root, then the tools will download successfully. Hopefully this will save someone a world of heart-ache.

VMware workstation 9 seems to handle multimedia much better than previous releases including decent DVD playing.
I posted this thread in the W7 Forum for more details.

This should make your testing of W8 in a VM a bit more satisfactory -- or even using your old W7 version in a VM with multimedia support.

I want to connect several VM's mainly Cisco router to same network adapter (vmnet1 host-only network adapter) and want to pass multiple VLAN's as Tagged. I am able to achieve this requirement through bridged network adapter but unable to do so through host-only
adapter. I am using Windows 7 as main OS and VMware Workstation 11.
I have gone through several tech forums but unable to find answer for it. Though in multiple forums one statement was common that Windows will strip the VLAN information when packet received/transmits through network adapter.
I would really appreciate if anyone can help me with this.

I can't seem to find any way to increase the size of this file or configure it in any way -- is this just VMware using disk space or will my Guest eventually fail because lack of disk space. There's actually plenty of space on the HDD itself. !!

Goal: To have host machine (win7) to use wired interface (lan1) (10.89.228.171) as default, while vm (winxp) uses wireless interface (wireless1) (192.168.1.2) as default. Each interface is a seperate network and seperate isp.

Using Vmware player 3.1.3

I have set the VM to bridged mode, and bridged that virtual adapter to the wireless interface with vmnetcfg. VM is now able to get out on the internet, ipchicken shows its going out on the wireless isp.

On the host machine, I am also going out on the wireless interface.
I changed metric on wired (lan1) to 1 for gateway AND interface
changed metric on wireless (wireless1) to 100 for interface (no gateway option)

Now, the host machine goes out on the lan1 gateway, great!
Also changed adapter priority, set lan1 above wireless1

Now, when going back to the VM, it is not able to get out on the internet.

If I remove metric for gateway on lan1, I will default back to wireless on the host, Even with the
priority showing lan1 before wireless1..

I guess what im asking windows to do is route all traffic from host through lan1, and route all traffic from vm through wireless1, concurrently.

Help !

I have setup a Windows XP Pro 64bit Virtual Machine on my laptop. I have a wireless card and an ethernet card in my laptop. I set up my virtual machine because I am trying to bypass a limitation. I play a game called runescape. It can recognize if you are trying to open two instances of the game from the same IP on a network and it will not allow it. I am hoping that if I set up a virtual machine that I can use it to act as if it is another computer on my network.... I use Oracle VM Virtualbox. It bridges the network adapter that has a connection with the guest computer. I think I already know the answer to my problem, but I want someone who knows more about networking's opinion. Do I have to have a separate network card with a connection to use for my guest virtual machine? Will this simulate a second computer on my network? Thanks for the help! I appreciate it.

I have at present chosen These options.
Hardware:
Monitor Type: LCD panel 1600 X 1200
Video Card: VESA driver (generic)
Settings:
Resolution: 1600 X 1200
Color Depth: Millions of Colors

I tried various other options. But nothing else seems to be suitable. Do I have to install some dedicated driver to get the resolution option of 1600 X 900 which is the Display resolution of my Host OS (Windows XP). Dell Studio Laptops use ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 Display Adapters for 1555 model.

Can you please suggest me which option should I choose in RHEl 4 to get the 1600 X 900 resolution option and get rid of this problem?

I have Windows 7 Pro on my main HD. The system is stable, runs perfectly and all programs run fine. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 release version on a secondary HD. I disconnected the Windows drive to install Ubuntu and reconnected it after installation. But since then Windows became more and more unstable. Applications like messenger and hotmail did not always start, or if they did they sometimes locked up. IE8 sometimes would not start, sometimes lock up. The pc would run slowly, lockup or not even start up. Eventually even after starting Windows it would shut down and memory checking would start. In the end it would only boot into Ubuntu and when I checked in setup the Windows HD was not recognised in the BIOS. So I gave up and disconnected the Ubuntu HD. Result is that Windows loads, runs and operates perfectly as before. I have checked most things and all appears OK.
If I disconnect the Windows drive and connect the Ubuntu drive that runs apparently OK. All programs run OK. It updates OK, and no error messages appear.
If both OS's run normally individually, is the problem more likely to be the setup of my pc's hardware rather than an OS problem. I don't need to run Linux and I am quite happy not to use it, but I was not aware that it could upset Windows quite so dramatically.

A:Win 7 Pro fails with Ubuntu 10/04 release version

I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 running perfect, side by side on the same drive, just different partitions.

I would think you shouldn't have disconnected the Windows drive, because when you installed Ubuntu, Grub2 would need to be able to see any other operating systems, so you would be able to dual boot.

Do not know if that was what affected your Windows tho...

Not that familiar with VMWare, but from Chapter 5 in the User Guide, if you install the VMWare tools:

Lets you drag and drop files between host operating systems and Windows, Linux,
Solaris, and FreeBSD guest operating systems

Chapter 8, titled Transferring Files and Text
Between the Host and Guest might also be useful.

You can transfer files directly over the network if you are not using NAT for the network connection type.

I'm running VMWare 7 on a Windows 7 64-bit host and trying to get an XP Pro SP3 VM to connect to my network. I have no success with either Bridged or NAT.

-VMWare NAT Service is running on the host
-Assigning a static IP to the VM from my router does not help
-Disabling Windows Firewall on the host and guest does not help
-VMWare Bridging is enabled on my host's Ethernet adapter
-Antivirus monitoring is disabled on the XP guest

This all worked just fine when I used Vista x64 and VMWare 6.5. By the way, I have created a brand new VM with the W7/VMW7 combination and it acts just the same way.

My Windows 98 VM works with NAT.

Been at this for hours on end and no threads I've read have helped. Perhaps there is a registry mod I need to do? I read one user that fixed his problem using CCleaner's registry cleaner, but there's no way I'm running a reg cleaner. I've read enough on this forum to know better

Thanks in advance for the help

Hi there

This fix came from ALTAE (another W10 member) but was buried in a thread that could easily be missed.

You might find networking on VM's is broken after upgrade to 1607. Some adapters missing or won't work.

Simply in the VMware editor (need to start in administrator mode) and enter the network editor. Then click the restore defaults. It will go through a slew of virtual network adapters deleting and re-installing - and then your VM should network correctly as before.

You don't need to reboot but the VM must be powered off.

Hello, I am new to this forum. I appreciate any help you can offer.

I have been troubleshooting an error with both my WIRED Internet Connection and AUDIO since installing Windows 7, over a previously running XP SP3 OS on the same Comp.

I have 3 desktops running through this working connection (Router) with no problems. If I connect directly to the Modem, no problem on the internet.

Through the Router, my computer retains its connection one way,

cmd. ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew.

This lasts for a period but if ever awaking my comp, the yellow explanation mark returns and i repeat the command.

Audio is also not working. I know its likely a driver error, NIC Card, maybe, but its an old comp we put together, what specs do you need to resolve this matter?

THanks guys!

I am running Windows XP (SP3) as a virtual machine in VMWare Player 2.5.2. Normally in the "Safely Remove" tray icon I had four components by default, in addition to whatever USB devices I had connected to the virtual machine.

Recently, I chose to "safely remove" a USB device, but my mouse slipped, and instead I "safely removed" the "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" and/or the "Inter(R) 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller" (both are missing now, but I think I have written their names correctly).

The components that remain are "VMware Accelerated AMD PCNet Adapter" and "Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM)"

Now the virtual OS has no USB capability. I have looked everywhere I can, including Device Manager, and see no sign of the missing Controllers. It seems odd that a virtual component like that could suddenly disappear -- but since it's not a physically-removable drive, I can't just plug it back in.

I have tried doing a Windows Restore to a previous date (before my mistake), but that did not restore the USB Controllers.

How can I restore the USB capability?

My friends have a Drupal developed website that they want to transfer to a different hosting service.
Their current service, is also the company that developed their web site in Drupal, from its former HTML based site.
My friends contacted another hosting service to do the migration and transfer; but the new hosting service techs
could not get the entire Drupal site migrated successfully from the former host.
They told my friends that their current host's configuration was not being transferred completely,
and the migration could not occur.
My friends have had a great deal of problems with their current host. The host wants to charge the $2500.00
just to do the transfer to a new service. This is an extremely high cost for a migration of any web site.
My friends do not have the money to spend to pay the price their current host wants.
It appears to be a "hostage" kind of problem.
I hesitate to mention the current business that is asking these exorbitant fees; but they are
a large corporation.
I am not familiar with the details of the contract agreement between the current host and my friends;
BUT, my friends have told me their agreement does not stipulate exact charges for migration or transfer
of the web site to a new host.
My question is, Are there any Drupal experts or consultants here on TechGuy.org that could advise
my friends on how to successfully migrate from their current host to a new host?

Hi there

Windows 10 build 9879 with the latest updates running as a VM on Windows 8.1 host using VMware workstation 11 or vmplayer 7 won't attach USB devices - only USB devices connected at power on seem to be recognised.

I upgraded a W8.1 system to W10 but I'll try later with a brand new install --- I don't expect any change though.

I've also tried both WITH and WITHOUT the 3D / hardware acceleration checkbox enabled --no difference.

Windows 8.1 runs fine as a VM on W7 host if you are coming from W7. Same problem though if you run W10 from a W7 host.

Cheers
jimbo

A:Windows 10 on Windows 8.1 Host and Vmware - USB problem

Don't you think a VMware forum would be more appropriate? It is a problem with their software.

A hypervisor normally tries to grab your device when it is introduced (from Windows host in your case, OSX in mine) and then offer it to the guest (10 in both cases). USB2 works for me but not USB3. In my case I use virtualbox and it doesn't support USB3. I know this because I asked the developers. This is a problem with the VM software (one end or the other) not Windows. Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 installed on real hardware all recognise USB 2 and 3. And USB 1 works on Windows XP for all I know if such devices still exist.

Hardware acceleration has nothing to do with connecting USB devices BTW. It is for graphics and normally (ime) makes things worse.

I have a Dell E510, Win XP. I networked it with my old PC to move files over. Now I want to Network the Dell to my HP xl876 thats running Win Me. I can't get the Dell to accept being the host. I run the Networking Wizard on the Dell and it says.........
Other computers cannot connect to the internet through this computer.
In addition to an internet connection, this computer has to have a connection to your network. It is connected both PC's have an ethernet card, and have been connected previously.

What is the purpose of connecting them? Do you want to share the Internet? What kind of Internet connection do you have, and how does it connect to your machine?

Here is my problem. At the apartment im in i have wireless for only one computer, my own. my 3 roomates want internet but dont want to pay extra. i would like to keep the wireless aspect for them as well so i do not have to run cables out to them. is there any close to cheap way to do this? for 3 more accounts it would be an extra $45 a month, for the next 5 months. so anything cheaper than that would be nice. thank you for the help.

use ICS, look up internet connection sharing in the help file, you need 2 NICS in the PC, one takes in the Internet, the other shares it out, I havent actually tried using a WIFI card as an OUT for ICS but the principle is the same.

Or by a wireless router and clone your mac address of the NIC in the PC and use that to share the broadband, your friends will need to buy WIfi cards for the laptops.

Either way your still going to have pay something out and as you say $45 dollars for 3 accounts is probably cheaper.

Regards

How to release and renew all computer IP Address on the same host computer without walking through each every computers without 3rd party software by using ipconfig /release and /renew command?

A:How to release and renew all computer IP Address on the same host computer without go

IPconfig command only reads and makes changes to the locally attached NIC and makes no communication to other machines on the LAN. If DHCP is configured correctly then there should be no need to renew the IP addresses of the machines. Also the computer will automatically contact the DHCP server half way between the lease time to ask if it can keep it's current IP address. For example if the lease was 1 day then after 12 hours the machine will request to keep the IP address that it currently has for another day.

Microsoft Corporation - The command configuration applies to Vista,7 and Windows 8

The only possible way to complete what you wish is to disable and then re-enable the DHCP service on your router

Hope This Helps,
Josh!

Hi,
(tl;dr) Background.
This all started with a fight on malware in W7 that I've lost. I realize that immunodeficiency of Windows is what we pay for convenience. Ability of malware to break out of vmware box was a nasty surprise, given that both guest and host are fully patched windows 7 with guest "protected" by ZoneAlarm av+fw and host "protected" by avast+windows firewall. Naive attempts to recover w7 from .img disk clone (storred on an offline disk) failed as well. The images got infected while I was changing the boot settings in bios. This was a rough awakening. To stop loss I "boot and nuked" and formatted all affected disks to ext4, installed Ubuntu and vmware with windows 7 guest on.

The problem.
Vmware flawlessly installed W7 guest on Ubuntu host from a genuine W7 installation disk. However, when I use the same disk to install W7 on bare metal it gets stuck at the first user input screen. Both keyboard and mouse are frozen.

Troubleshooting attempts.
Changing mouse/keyboard, hdd, RAM, video card did not solve the problem. Yes, I've formatted hdd to fat32 and ntfs, but that didn't help either. Also, afaik if windows can't find any suitable media it does not freeze at the first screen. Instead, it says "no suitable hardware found, please add a driver". I am heaving a problem way upstream. I had similar behavior when I was fighting virus, but I thought I cleaned it up by creating a new file tables (ms-dos) already.

Hello, very limited computer experience here. I have 2 questions regarding my home network. I have a desk top PC as the host and I have networked my Laptop to it (both Windows XP). Everything works great and I can access the internet from my laptop. Here are my questions:

1. When I access "My Network Places" on the Host PC, I can see the Laptop. But, when I access "My Network Places" from the Laptop I can't see the host PC. I get a message saying that Windows can not locate the network path and that I may not have access. It tells me to contact my network admin, which I'm guessing is me. Help!

2. I can't add the shared printer to my Laptop. The printer is connected to the host desktop and I named my printer "Printer" I have set the printer up as shared on the host PC and run the network wizard on both computers. When I get to the step where the wizard is supposed to search for available printers it does not find the printer. Help!

Thanks, Trevor

Make sure that you have the firewall on both machines shut off. Windows XP SP 2 has a built in firewall.

I have a problem that is either networking or VirtualPC or both. I went as far as I could at the present time in the official Microsoft VirtualPC newsgroup and reached an impasse. I am hoping you, the networking crowd, might be able to offer some further insights.

------------------------------------------------------
Summary
------------------------------------------------------
Problem connecting to the internet (browser, ping, etc.) from a Virtual PC.
In all cases, the host computer could connect to the Internet successfully.

(A) From my office (hostPC w/hardwired connection) => VM connection SUCCEEDS
(B) Taking the same virtual machine onto my laptop and sitting in the public library (hostPC w/wireless connection) => VM connection SUCCEEDS
(C) Taking the same virtual machine onto my laptop and sitting at home => hostPC w/wireless: VM connection SUCCEEDS but hostPC w/hardwired: VM connection FAILS
Note that in the failed case I could not even ping the host PC from the VM!

DETAILS: Environment A (office)
------------------------------------------------------
>>VM running on office computer
>>Host OS=WinXP Pro SP2 with *no* firewall
>>VirtualOS=WinXP Pro SP2 with *no* firewall

Hi. I'm using a 2012 r2 server hyper-v. Home network. Have internet access. Physical NIC.

I created a 2008 server vm. Not a DC. Just a plain 2008 r2 server in a workgroup.
I created an external switch, allowing management OS to share network adapter.
In the virtual machine settings, Network adapter is set to use this external switch.

I want the 2008 server vm to be able to connect to the internet to apply windows updates.
It is unclear to me what I need to do make this happen.

I believe the issue is in the ip configuration but I need some help.

Thanks in advanced
