After system recovery, screen resolution adjustment not allowed

Q: After system recovery, screen resolution adjustment not allowed

After reformatting my PC with windows 7 it will not allow me to adjust screen resolution.

Preferred Solution: After system recovery, screen resolution adjustment not allowed

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just bought a new laptop, and a glitch has developed where by lowering my resolution, the size of the screen decreases, leaving black space around the outside. This is particularly annoying in games that do not play at my computer's native resolution, and therefore run in a rectangle half the size of my screen. If anyone can help with this, I'd be very grateful. thanx

I was wondering if anyone could help:

After my laptop crashed (Samsung V25 2.66Ghz) I used the system recovery cd-rom that came with the laptop to restore/reboot the system. That worked fine, and i was able to access Windows XP again. However, I now have no sound whatsoever, I cant access the ineternet, and the screen resolution seems limited to 600x400, and so looks very blocky. Also a few of the other programs that worked before no longer do. I know that this is probably a fairly simple problem to fix, but i have no clue, and so need help. An internet reconnection would be of great help as I can then download any drivers needed etc straight to my laptop.

As it is, im having to use the internet at work to look for help.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Good day all I have installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on an old Lenovo G550. It used to work well on Windows 7, but now I cannot install or update the display drivers in order to connect an external display (LG 49" TV) at 1920 x 1080. Windows installed its own useless drivers that obtains at least 1366 x 768 on both the laptop and the TV when displays are duplicated. Then the highest I can go is 1366 x 768. When I select "Show only on 2" (which is essentially what I want to do), it goes down to an even worse display resolution, but this also disables the Resolution drop-down.  I have downloaded every version of drivers know to God and man from Lenovo's and other sites, but all of them tells me: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing software." I have deleted the driver and reinstalled via "Scan for hardward changes" as well. I have done a Windows update as well. I have no idea what to do next. How do I fix this stupid problem? Please help me. Thank you in advance.Kind regardsRenier

Hi, I'm new here...

Am I only allowed to make one copy of my Recovery partition?

I have a Dell desktop, with a built in Dell recovery partition...

I have read that.. "You are only allowed to make ONE copy of your Recovery partition
and it must be on to ROM CDs or DVDs."

I didn't know that when I made a copy of C and recovery partition to my external drive,
I am a bit concered that I can only do this once... Is that strictly true? For example
if I reinstalled windows 7 (I have the disks), would I have another opportunity to make
a copy of the recovery partition? Say to DVDs or a hidden partition?

You need to right click somewhere on the Windows desktop then click Properties, then Settings. If it won't let you increase the resolution, let us know what graphics adapter you have (manufacturer and model).

I purchased an HP 6735b laptop, designed for Windows Vista, without a hard drive. I purchased a hard drive and installed Windows 7 Professional. I did all of the important and critical updates from the Microsoft website and updated all drivers using Slim Drivers. Somewhere along the line the screen brightness dimmed and wouldn't allow me to adjust it.

Through the device manager, I found the display adapter, which is ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics. Went to ATI website for updated driver and found the latest for 3200, which I installed. It appeared to work, I was able to adjust the brightness back up.
However, when I shut the laptop off and start it again the screen is dimmed. The hot keys (FN + F10) will not work, but when I type in "adjust screen brightness" and go to the screen that allows you slide the bar up and down to adjust the brightness it suddenly pops into the pre-adjusted brightness setting.

I've tried to go to the AMD website and download their program that makes sure the drivers are updated, but after the program loads, you click on the button to search, I receive an message that says "Sorry, something went wrong".

Why won't it hold the setting after shutting down?

Not on the information you have given us.
Desktop or laptop ?  Make and model ?  Main component specs if it is self-built ?  Post back with this information
In the most general sense, if it is a desktop borrow another monitor, if it is a laptop connect it to an external monitor. This will at least tell you if it is a monitor/screen problem or a computer problem.

how do i change the size of the icons on the login screen on windows xp?

A:login screen icon size adjustment

Safest(depending on which program you use) and probably quickest way to change things like that would be via a third party theme app such as TuneUp Utilities WinStyler. It's a shareware program but a trial is available from their site. There are probably other programs which can do the same thing too..some may even be freeware but to use of those types of programs do sometimes carry a risk so use with caution.

A:The file exceeds the limit allowed and cannot be allowed.

Hi -

You have the error code and the error description correct -

--> The file size exceeds the limit allowed and cannot be saved

So I understand, please -

1. You connect the iPhone to the Vista system and attempt a drag/drop which produces the error message?
2. How is the iPod connected to the Vista system?
3. Are you using Windows Explorer?
4. Does the iPod have a drive letter assigned to it? What is it?
5. What is the path and file name on the iPod?
6. Where are you trying to copy it to in Vista (folder name)?
7. What is the total capacity of the iPod's hard drive?
8. Is there more than 190 MB free space on it now (or when you tried the copy)?
9. Is there more than 190 MB free space on the Vista system (I have to ask..! )?
10. Have you successfully copied RAR files in this same manner before?
11. Is your goal to remove the file from the iPod (delete) - i.e., do you have another copy of it if something should happen to the one on the iPod?
--> I know the "ultimate" goal is to copy iPod --> Vista, but... is deletion acceptable for now?
12. Can you access the iPod from Vista and perform line commands on it?

If #12 = YES, run this, please, (NOTE: g is the drive letter of the iPod. Change it accordingly) -
START | type cmd | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe above under Programs | select "Run as Administrator" | then copy/paste or type -

I'm considering the XPS13 with a matte screen. However, all reviews I find mention that it's not possible to adjust the brightness with the matte display. Is this still the case? If so then quite honestly, a Dell is not the right one for me as my eyes have special needs, which require custom brightness and a matte display.

What about the temperature development at the bottom? I'd be using the notebook exclusively on my lap and I would not want to carry around a heat protection mat.

Hi, I observed a problem on my new pc with windows 7.

When I try to adjust the screen brightness, the adjustment slider is always in minimum in Control panel>Hardware and Sound>Power Option, as shown in this picture

but once I go to the "Edit Plan Settings", the slider is in maximum position, as shown in this picture

I can adjust the brightness under the "Edit Plan Settings" but not in the "Power option". Something must be wrong here, does anyone know how to fix this? Many thanks!

A:Problem on screen brightness adjustment(Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)

Hmmm... That slider doesn't even show on my PC until I edit plan settings.

Is this a laptop? Is your screen dark?

If you can't adjust the slider on the Power Option window it likely isn't doing anything anyway. It might not be anything to worry about if your screen is operating normally. I know of no fix for it, but others might.

Any ideas here?

I Had Windows 7 32-Bit .. i need 64-bit and i heard OS boots faster on SSD .. i have only one SSD so i created a partition on this SSD and installed 64-bit on the created partition .. now i want to delete/format partition 1 but i can't .. i tried DISKPART , formatting like normal

the partition i am trying to format/delete has status as : System , Primary Partition

A:delete/system is not allowed on the current boot

The System flag means it's the partition booting the present OS. Is there another OS in Partition 1? Either way, the installer will place the boot files on the first-in-order Primary partition, especially if it's already marked Active.

Let us see a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image then we can give you the steps to correctly move the boot files. Once moved you can delete partition 1 or absorb its space into Win7 partition which runs best on the left side of the hard drive.

my computer is very sick, I am completely locked out, even after I performed system recovery.

System Information:

Acer Aspire 7720G
Windows Vista (most recent SP, don't know what it was since I can't get in but I always kept it up to date)

Might be unrelated, but I had Malware problems a couple of month ago. Upgraded to better Malware protection, cleaned everything out, and scanned twice weekly since then. The computer worked fine again after that.

Even more likely to be unrelated, but in the interest of full disclosure, the machine had started to overheat on occasion and I recently opened it up to clean out the fan and also tightened up all the screws. Overheating problem was resolved after that.

In the last few days, I got blue screens with Memory Bump failed messages (they went away quickly so I don't know the full text) on randlom actions, but most often when copying to external HDD. Usually, machine booted up again, with no lasting bad effects.

Today, it started looping into a different blue screen (it just says that the machine failed, might be infected and that I should clean up and try again). On start up, I am given the choice to do start normally, or clean up. Both option pretty much have the same result, windows loading screen for a while, then back to blue screen, except that in the first option, the blue screen just blips and it goes back to the start up choice, while with the second choice that blue screen stays up.

Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.

Download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have ComboFix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running ComboFix.

WARNING: IF you have not already done so ComboFix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts.
Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until ComboFix has completely finished.

Hello, We have PCIe cards with a 12 port switch that connects to 10 PCIe devices on each downstream port.  We are finding that the number of such PCIe devices we can have on the bus is limited to something like 54.  Is there a way to change this? We would like to have as many as 80 devices on the PCIe bus, but that does not appear to work.   The PCIe spec allows for up to 255 devices.  Is this a limitation imposed in the BIOS or elsewhere?  Any workarounds for this? TIA -Tom

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I looked around a little and found one other thread with a similar question, but the question wasn't really answered. I can't find anything on the net that doesn't confuse me so bad it makes my head hurt, so I thought I'd try asking here. Thanks in advance for any answers I get.

I will try and be as thorough as possible, although the resulting question will be simple. I'll start out with why I am asking the question to begin with.

So I am trying to play a game I used to play nearly ten years ago. It's a free online game called Continuum/Subspace and there are user created "zones" or variations of the game within the game (if that makes sense). I play in a zone called Trench Wars. It's a top down game, meaning you are looking down at your ship as if from above and the screen scrolls as you move to reveal more of the area (map) you are playing in. You are in a spaceship of your choice with varying weapons for each ship. The game requires aiming at your enemies before firing at them and anticipating their moves.

Well I noticed that playing at a higher resolution allows you to see more of your immediate area and expands your view of the map. It works just like your desktop in essence. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons, but the more space you have. In the game, the higher the resolution, the smaller the ships are, but you can see more space around you. Obviously, this would give an advantage to anyone playing ... Read more

A:Forcing Screen Resolution Higher Than Native Resolution

Simple answer is: you can not go over the native resolution of LCD panel because its physical thing for each pixel lcd panel has a cell you can not have more pixels than there is physical pixels in that panel.

smaller than native resolutions achieved by grouping more than one cell to form pixel thats why non native resolution on lcd sometimes gets blurry or edgy

Have just done the latest Windows 10 1803 update on my T410 (Intel Graphics), and the screen brightness is stuck at maximum.  The Fn + Home/End keys bring up the on-screen widget, but it has no effect.  Similarly the brightness slider in the settings panel has no effect.  Looked at the Intel driver in device manager, tried the update driver button, but no updates available. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks
