I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HTTP traffic in IE 7 stops working about five minutes after booting up. This started after the latest Windows Update.

HTTPS and email always works .

The only solution is to reboot the computer. After about five minutes, HTTP stops working again.

I have 2 GB MB of RAM, Windows XP Pro, service pack 3. This happens even when the browser is the only program running.

I have updated and run Ad Aware and Spybot.

I am up to date with AVG and ran a complete system scan. Nothing found.

Hi all,

I hope someone can help me with this irritating frustrating productivity killer.

Basically what happens is that I'm using the browser (Firefox 2 or IE 6, doesn't make any difference) and at some point, sites stop opening - basically the same response as if the net went down - connection error.

Strangely enough, any URL that is in https instead of http, always works. Maybe this can help spot the problem - so I hope.

The only solution usually is to restart the browser and in some extreme cases, I have to reboot the computer.

I have 700+ MB of RAM, and this happens in situations when I have an average amount of open applications, and easily 200 MB of free RAM.

But sometimes, after closing programs that not FF or IE, the browsing also recovers. This makes me wonder if there's anything to do with memory usage. Just a suspicion.

I'm running Avast, Kaspersky Anti-Hacker, Spybot, System Mechanic, Webroot SpySweeper, and in all fronts I seem to be clean from spyware, viruses, etc.

Worth mentioning is that I've had some pretty tough to kill spyware infection last week. Only mixing Webroot+Spybot+Process Explorer have I finally killed the menace. I'm not sure if it's related as I am not sure when the infection entered my machine. Unfortunately I've already forgot the name of the *******... I'm just wondering if even having removed it, damaged could remain...

I'm attaching a log of HiJackThis with the hope that in the ca... Read more

Windows XP SP3 x32
IE 8
This is a legacy system that I have to keep running.  Suddenly, I cannot reach any secure (HTTPS) web sites.  This is a problem since Windows Update requires IE.  (I have applications running on this system that are still getting updates.)
I can access secure (HTTPS) web sites using Firefox but windows update does not work properly with it.
I have tried clearing the SSL slate, resetting all options to the default.  All add-ons are disabled.

I though I could uninstall and reinstall it using add/remove programs\windows features but that only removes the shortcuts.
Any suggestions on how to get IE 8 working again with HTTPS would be appreciated.

I de-infected a windows XP system with SP3 and IE7. Once I did that,
http no longer loaded in IE. It does not work in portable firefox
either. I can type in ftp:// ftp address and IE works. Likewise I
can use https:// and the page loads!!!
What is going on:

I tried:
1) Reset ie7 as per MS
2) Removed IE 7
2a) IE6 would not load http either
3) reapplied SP3
4) Repair install win winxp cd.
5) Deleted and re-installed network card

This is where I am now. Still no http://. Since multiple
applications are affected, I do not think it is a browser helper.

Any Idea?

A:HTTP not working, FTP, HTTPS working ???

Try restarting the WebClient service. You can access the Services console via either:
a) Control Panel > Administrative Tools (which is under Performance and Maintenance if you are viewing the CP in Category View) > Services
or the easier and faster way...
b) Typing "services.msc" (minus the quotes, of course) into a Run line.

I am having problems with https sites like gmail. I have tried to access in chrome IE and firefox and all 3 saying its not secure.

Also my time clock will not update its stuck in 2009. I tried the internet time and it says an error connecting to time.microsoft.com

This all started after I pulled the bios battery out.
I tried a system restore and same thing.
I tried turning firewalls on and off and I have deleted all temporary files.
Also forgot that none of the windows updates will work.

I dont think its a virus I did a scan with Avira and nothing comes up. I think its some sort of firewall setting or something like that.

I am running windows 7 home premium.

A:[SOLVED] HTTPS not working on any browser

First thing I suggest, is to go into your BIOS and check the Date and Time there, set it manually inside the BIOS first.

Updating your system using Windows Update should help solve a lot of your problems you've mentioned. So could you explain in further details what you mean by Windows Update will not work?

Why did you remove the battery anyway?

Only way to make IE11 working is to use SSL3.0 enable and disable all TLS, which is not feasible solution for us as SSL3.0 is not safe and its difficult to push this to all users in the organization which may effect other websites settings.
Is this a bug with IE ? How do we fix this ? Any ideas would be very helpful.

I need help - maybe even to be told to post this elsewhere.

A couple of times each day my PC very suddenly stops being able to download all email except that provided by my ISP (NTL), stops being able to access ftp - stop being able to log on to remote servers vis remote desktop (though those already logged on continue to work) and is no longer able to view https pages, though normal web browsing is not affected.

My PC is on a network via a Netgear router, and recently I have found that only my PC is affected by this phenomenon. It lasts anything from 5 to 25 minutes but usually around 15. It all starts working again as suddenly as it stopped.

Restarting my PC causes the problem to go away - though it will return later on, after no particualr length of time as far as I can determine.

I suspect that something is running in the background which attempts to find updates online, or something of this sort, periodically and whilst it is trying to do so it stops these other processes functioning. Does this seems sensible?

I have had Task Manager open and no new process appears when this happens, nor disappears when it stops. There are no log entries in the application, security or system logs which seem relevant, that I can see.

Not sure what info would be required to assess this. I have a number of programs installed that could well look for updates etc (if my hunch is right, which it may well not be) eg. Adobe Acrobat reader, Realplayer etc. There are other... Read more

I am having trouble with IE7 and https:// sites. I can open all http:// sites no problem. When it comes to https:// it will not work. Is this just a setting that got messed up somewhere?

A:Ie7 & https://

This is a c&p troubleshoot for https connect problems.

Verify that Internet Explorer Is Using 128-Bit Encryption:

In Internet Explorer, on the Help menu, click About Internet Explorer
The level of encryption on your computer appears next to the words Cipher Strength.
Verify that the Cipher Strength value appears as 128-bit
If the Cipher Strength is anything less then 128-bit, download the "Explorer Internet High Encryption Pack" to your computer's hard disk, and then install it.

Delete Temporary Internet Files
There's also a possibility of some corrupted files in your Temporary Internet Files (TIF) storage. You should clear these
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the General tab
Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files, and click OK when you are prompted to confirm the deletion

Configure Security settings for the Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer:
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Security tab
Select Trusted sites, and then click Default Level
Add the secure Web site you are trying to access to the Trusted sites zone. To do so, click Sites, type the address (URL) of the site in the Add this Web site to the zone box
Click Add, click OK, and then click Apply

Security has always been critical to the web, but challenges involved in site migration have inhibited HTTPS adoption for several years. In the interest of a safer web for all, at Google we?ve worked alongside many others across the online ecosystem to better understand and address these challenges, resulting in real change. A web with ubiquitous HTTPS is not the distant future. It?s happening now, with secure browsing becoming standard for users of Chrome.

Today, we?re adding a new section to the HTTPS Report Card in our Transparency Report that includes data about how HTTPS usage has been increasing over time. More than half of pages loaded and two-thirds of total time spent by Chrome desktop users occur via HTTPS, and we expect these metrics to continue their strong upward trajectory.
Percentage of pages loaded over HTTPS in Chrome

As the remainder of the web transitions to HTTPS, we?ll continue working to ensure that migrating to HTTPS is a no-brainer, providing business benefit beyond increased security. HTTPS currently enables the bestperformance the web offers and powerful features that benefit site conversions, including both new features such as service workers for offline support and web push notifications, and existing features such as credit card autofill and the HTML5 geolocation API that are too powerful to be used over non-secure HTTP. As with all major site migrations, there are certain steps webmasters should take to ensure that search ranking tra... Read more

Hello.
I'm running W10 and IE11. Earlier my internet connection went down but now has come back up. There is a noise problem on my line and the disconnection is expected behaviour. But, since the connection came back my browser will only access https capable sites, no http. This is a pain because a lot of my Favourites are http only. As a matter of fact, even some https sites wont download. There are far too many of these instances to be just sites going down etc. Does this sound like a setting has changed somewhere, or maybe could the poor connection be causing an issue, even though everything was working as normal until the system went down for a while, and the noise problem is not new.

Oh dear, nope, it's not true, https connections are just for passwords, websites come across encrypted in https mode and decrypted when the site gets a handshake from your pc, it's just a more secure way of entering form info and passwords, but to be honest, if your computer isn't secure on the virus front, the https connection is irrelevant.

Hi, Please help how to block the https prtocals in cisco router??

A:Block Https

I'm not sure about blocking the protocol, but I believe it runs on TCP port 443, which you could block. I'm not so good with networking, though, which is probably where this should be, so I can't say that's a guaranteed fix. May I ask why you want to block it? Blocking that could cause legitimate sites to stop working, and would keep you from using secure logins on any sites you may need people on your network to use, which would make them more vulnerable to password sniffing and such. If you are just looking to block a few sites that use HTTPS, you should probably try to find another fix. Just my $.02.

The remote screen shows lots of nested file flolders (ie root/folder1/ root/folder2/....) and then programs in the root and 1 other folder.
The session log shows the following

Quote:

STATUS:> Receiving reply...
HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Now I cannot get to lower levels and I am wondering if I have a setup problem in FTP or on my site?!?!?

Confused! :angry2:

On compuserve I have not been able to access secure websites for over 12 days. I have done all of their recommended procedures and nothing has changed. I've also tried Juno and Netzero with no luck. I'm using Win98 and IE 6. I've tried IE in a separate browser and also tried the IE repair which says 'can not be repaired'. I never had this problem when I had AOL.

Are others getting this message on FF and other browsers when trying to get into outlook.com today?

Your connection is not secure

The owner of snt152.mail.live.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox may only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.

Hello. I posted this in the Avast forum, but I know some of you are gurus in here too so? Just today I started getting "Your Connection Is Not Private attackers might be trying to steal your information when opening Chrome to my homepage Start.me or going to a few different "reputable" websites. Not Secure is in the search field to the left of the URL address. When I remove the check mark from enable HTTPS scanning under Web Shield everything works fine again. At first I thought it may be Zemana AntiLogger, so I shut it down and wasn't running it in real time. Maybe a recent update? I think there was a problem like this a few years ago with Avast HTTPS scanning and Firefox, but it was corrected after an update. Just curious if anyone else has had this happen? I don't like leaving it unchecked. It works OK with the Edge browser, but I don't have Firefox installed. I also disabled the Avast Online Security extension, but it didn't help. Thanks.

Welcome to TSG! Is this one of the things you tried?:http://mellasviews.hubpages.com/hub/Easy-Fix-For-HTTP-Port-80-HTTPS-Port-443-and-FTP-21

A search I did found a few (fairly old) results that claimed to 'fix' this, assuming it's Internet Explorer that's causing the problem. At least two of the fixes involve checking the LAN settings under 'Internet Options' and either unchecking all the boxes (or just the Proxy Server option), depending which one you read.

I have no idea if any of the suggested solutions actually work so, if you use them, it must be at your own risk. If you create a Restore Point before you try them you should be able to undo anything that makes things worse.

Hello,
After having some PC problems and installing IE6 (previously IE5), I can't log onto ANY secure websites. I thought it was just Hotmail, but it is all secure connections with HTTPS in the web address.

I'm connecting to the net with AOL 5 which has worked for years, (I recently tried AOL 8).

I've tried various options in IE but none seem to work.

Any ideas?
