Sign In Error - "We can't sign into your account"

Q: Sign In Error - "We can't sign into your account"

I Just had a log in error. I have a Dell Precision 7710 mobile work station with the Anniversary Update. I turned on the machine and tried to log in and got:

---------------
We can't sign into your account
This problem can often be fixed by signing out of your account, then signing back in. If you don't sign out now, any files that you create or changes that you make will be lost.
---------------

Logging out and restarting did not work. I shut it down, undocked (it is a Thunderbolt Cable Dock), and then restarted. Luckily it was back to normal log in. I shut down docked, and booted and it was normal log in again.
Not sure what happened. Hope the issue does not come back.

I read online this happened to others, but cannot find a cause or fix (other than restarting) and wondering if anyone knows why this happened.

thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey there! So I've seen many posts on this kind of topic but none that have had the exact same issue that I'm having or none with solutions that seem to work for me so I'm deciding to post it here.

I recently was forced to create a new user account on my Windows 10 PC since old one got corrupted. This new one is a local account/administrator. When going to the account settings I then go to the "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead" option which works totally fine. I am asked to input the email of my Microsoft account and password. So far so good. After I do that I then encounter a screen that says "Sign in to this device using your Microsoft account". It asks me for my current Windows password one more time and says the next time I sign into windows I'll be using my Microsoft account password.
So I then enter my windows password and here is where the lovely screw up happens that says "Oops, something went wrong. Whatever happened, it was probably our fault. Please try again."

I've tried countless times and attempted to skip this page by clicking next and nothing. I can't use my Microsoft account at all on this computer it seems anymore. Anyone have some useful tips? I can post images of the entire process if needed in case something wasn't clear.

If you can connect to the internet, you should be able to use MS Update. Make sure all your device drivers are in order before you start pulling the software apart.

AOL customer service is absolutely useless when I call them about this. Most of them actually hung up on me repeatedly. Every browser I open up, including the one on my phone, gives me this message every time I try to sign up for AOL/Aim. It is highly frustrating and it just happened out of nowhere. Is there any solution for this? I ran an anti virus scan and it removed one threat and I restarted my computer and went back on and the error message still pops up. I cleared my cache/history, everything, and it's still the same. No idea what else to do. I was told to go to a technician by customer service but I really do not want to have to pay money for this joke. Help. I need this account for a job. Went on incognito mode too and that did not help. And there is also no such email as [email protected]. I messaged it from another AOL account (cannot use that one because it has a highly inappropriate name) so that did not help either. The message is:

unused
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Is there any compelling reason as to why you'd want to sign up for AOL? I think there service is truly horrible, and I would advise you not to touch them with a barge pole.

This is a question regarding a computer that intermittently ?hangs? at ?sign out?. When it hangs, the screen goes black and no commands are possible. The only recovery is to depress and hold the power button. The computer is a laptop Toshiba Satellite L55-C5272 that was purchased in March 2016 and came with Windows 10. Again, the ?hang? randomly occurs during sign out and will occur maybe 1 or 2 times every 20 sign outs. No other operating problems have been noticed. I have tried to isolate the source of this problem but no success. I have run a ?sfc? scan and no problems were detected. I have run the DISM tool and no problems were detected. I have disabled the anti-virus and the hang still occurs. The primary programs and applications that are installed are: ESET anti-virus, Office 2010, Firefox browser, and Goggle Earth. No games have been installed are run. Of course some games came with the system but none has ever been activated. The system has been rebuilt 3-times in an attempt to rectify the problem. As additional info, the ?hang? has occurred during sign out after a period of no usage after a restart. Any guidance on isolating and/or correcting the problem would be appreciated.

Not the worst crisis listed on this forum, but annoying. I've google searched and found similar problems, but no solution.

When calling up Windows Explorer, I note the + sign on the folder side is missing. When I right click the Expand option is greyed out and inactive. I never noticed the extent to which I use this as part of my workflow until it is not there. Tried various things with no luck, and figured perhaps someone else has a good idea before I do something stupid.

Machine: XP-Pro Version 2002 SP-2 on a Pentium 4 2.4 gHz w 1 GB ram and 500 GB Sata. C: O/S E: My Documents

Whenever I manually go to "My Computer" and then step through the following folders, "Local Disk C", "Documents and Settings", "Mike", a blue framed box appears, urging me to "Sign In With Microsoft Passport Network", with fields for "Sign In Name" and "Password". I click the red X to bypass this and when I open the next folder, this annoyance reappears. When I step backwards to the "Mike" folder, it reappears once again. I have run several spyware programs and all say that my system is clean. Norton AV says the same. I have removed everything from my start-up list using "msconfig" that could possibly be causing this, but to no avail. I assume some trojan has been imbedded into my registry to be causing this. Hi. When I go into Documents and Settings folder, I always get this "popup" window named "Sign in with Microsoft Passport Network" and I don't feel safe even though it probably really is from Microsoft. More so, it's just plain annoying as hell when I'm trying to navigate through Documents and Settings.
On another forums board, someone suggested I create a new key in my registry which appeared to be a new key to suppress the "popup". I didn't feel safe doing that even though I've worked in my registry before, because this person who suggested this, didn't have any credentials, just a mere 4 prior posts to that forum, hence I don't feel safe trying that.

Can you please tell me how to keep this window from popping up everytime I go into Documents and Settings? I've included a screenshot of the "popup" window and a HJT log to help (see below). Thanks in advance!!!

I use Windows 8.1 and many time when I try to access a KB or a Microsoft link I get this error:
"Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later."

it can happen either if I search something on google or enter a link inside Microsoft\TechNet\MSDN etc...
when I try to open the same link on Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox - it opens immediately as expected!
I know IE opens my sessions with an integration to my Microsoft ID, though I don't see any reason why it will block me from entering Microsoft links
any ideas?

Hi,

I have searched the forum, but I just found the "usual" asks - and solutions for it - in this issue and not the right for me.
My problem is; a few weeks ago on many of my icons on the taskbar (that earlier I have pre-configured to "Run as Administrator") suddenly appeared that blue-yellow shield sign.
I don't know what was the cause that Windows "thought" somewhen: "Now I want to show to you which icons has the run admin option!"
I don't really like it, but I deal with it (I can live with that little sign ) until now, because it appeared on my Opera icon too - which don't have this option by the way... - and now it's disturb me.

I have went through on the usual solutions; first of all, I don't use UAC, it's turned off long time ago, so the icons shouldn't have this shield sign, right? Therefore, the "elevated icons solution" is useless in this case, right?
I have rebuilt the icon cache.
No change.

Now I have run out the ideas.

(Unfortunately, I have experience more often weird behaviour in my W7x64, I'm getting afraid I have to make a reinstall... )

Thanks for any help.

A:Shield sign on icon(s) (not the "usual" problem)

If I were you I would reinstall as well and leave the UAC permissions as they are. Who knows what could have installed without your knowledge since you completely disabled UAC. Doing that is not advisable, to say the least.

Just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to set the default logon prompt as smart card?
Currently, it prompts you with the last used method (i.e. username and password or smart card and pin).
I know that you can force smart card only logon by "scforce" Group Policy (Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Option), but I want to keep the options and just make it a default option.
I also tried changing the "LastLoggedOnProvider" in the to the smartcard option here "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI" and here "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\SessionData",
but this did not make any difference.

I was attempting to change the User administrator name so that it reflected a new windows explorer file path. When my SO set up the machine, she set the user name as "Mike & Steph". Well, this is now in the file path for all of our files and I work with software where no special characters or spaces can be in the file path.

As I tried to change it, I found a forum that said to create a new local user, set it as the administrator, and delete the old one. I was wary of deleting the old one, so I created a new local user, made it the Administrator, then restarted the machine. Now I am unable to sign in as the new Admin user, when I try to I get an error message and kicked back to the Windows start-up/sign-in menu.

I am unable to sign in as the administrator at all, or change the Admin rights back to the old user.

When I try to sign into the Command Prompt (Admin), it prompts me to enter the Admin password. I do, and I get the error:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

I am not even able to system restore, as I cannot sign in as Administrator. How can I fix this so that I can just go back to the "Mike & Steph" original user as the Administrator?

Any help would be much appreciated. I am very worried I have to restore the whole system.

Thank you!

Try to save your files (e.g. with Lucid Puppy) and make a clean reinstall on the new disk.

Hi folks,
I am using IE6 (sp2) for WinXP Home Edition. There was a spate of browser home page hijacking for all the profiles but I managed to fix that with several hours of persistent work, running Ad-Aware, Macafee spyware and reading tech help here. One problem remains....
Here is the weird thing: When I go to my Earthlink Webmail sign-in page there is No box to sign in with for password or e-mail address. I cannot access their chat help either. But this only happens in IE. I could see the sign-in in Netscape AND I could see my sign-in on the other profiles.
Firefox browser was suggested and I went to download that (using IE again- sheesh ) but could not find the download button. I thought I was going crazy till I tried the same webpage in Netscape and there it was big as life.
Is my IE corrupted? I uninstalled the SP2 and the problem resolved. Reinstalled the SP2 and it occurs again. Are my security settings too high?
Please help.Thanks in advance.

- logged in from my wifes computer and was able to get in.
- logged in from my iphone and was able to get in.
- logged in with I.E. and was able to get in the 1st time, tried again later and was not able to.
- uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome (and all associated files) and was not able to login.
- visited the Geek Squad at Best Buy and they didn't know.

I read an online forum and saw a couple responses:
- FB may be doing maintenance on servers or databases
- you account may be temporarily banned for some reason
but both of those don't seem to apply to me if I can get on with another computer and my iphone, unless those use a different IP address or something.

Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks.
PS I sent 2 messages to FB but they just send back the standard 'thanks for the feedback' message.

Good evening:

About two hours ago I ran a key generator and my !Avast came up with the following message:
Sign of "Win32:rootkit-gen [Rtk]" has been found in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\beep.sys" file.
It suggested I put it in the chest (quarantine) so I did. I immediately ran spybot and ccleaner and nothing important came up. I restarted the computer and everything seemed ok upon reboot. I used a scan feature !avast has in the quarantine section and it said: action is completely successful - no virus. I did the scan a few more times and it still said no virus. Just to be sure I ran microsoft's malware removal tool and again I had no infections.

Here is my Hijackthis link I ran upon rebooting my computer for the second time after running ccleaner, spybot and the microsoft malware removal tool:

A:How to put "tick" sign into the box in MS Word 2007?

If you can't replace the blank boxes w/ box w/ check mark, then try to insert a text box w/ check mark. Change the background color to none, resize the box and drag it over the box you want to check. Copy, paste and move checks to other boxes.

Just upgraded to Windows10 4 days ago and got this on screen last night and until now. What will I do? PLEASE SEE PHOTO.

A:Critical Error: Start menu and Cortana aren't working.....Sign out now"

Just some of additional details I can remember after Windows 10 Upgrade.
It looks so good at first, the environment...so cool... Until after 1 day,
1) I cannot play my music using "Windows Media Player"
2) I cannot "PRINT". Printer in my devices was gone. I re-installed it (Brother DCP-J100). And then it appeared in the devices as two copies: One with "Copy(1)" at the end. I tried to print, I cannot print. All were in "queued" all the time.
3) I transferred photos from my mobile phone to laptop via Bluetooth, all were "NOT SENT". I found out: I need to right click on the Bluetooth icon and then press "Receive a file". Ops, before this it is automatic.....
4) My greatest DISASTER: Above-mentioned: CRITICAL ERROR: Start menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in. Sign out now. Seemed like I don't have another choice but to sign out. But I have signed in and out already more than 10 times, when will it be fixed??? I cannot use my laptop well. Just to reach you out here in forum am using my mobile phone to take photo of the screen and patiently typing....I tried to click my "Mozilla browser in the Desktop" it doesn't function. I's forced to use "IE" instead and I don't like it and my time is limited coz anytime now while typing it can crushed....

PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS...if this cannot be solved, please give me instruction on how can I rather go back to Windows 8... Read more

When I click on "Sign in options" nothing happens. It just sits there and goes nowhere. It actually hangs up so that I can not click anything else but the exit "x" button. Can this be corrected?

I'm not sure if I have a problem or not. I have AOL 9.0SE, and use the free McAfee virus protection they provide. In the sign-in window it indicates (in red print!) that the firewall is "not detected." However, when going into the Security Center, it tells me that my computer is fully protected, that all protection features, INCLUDING the firewall, is enabled and working. I don't understand the discrepancy, or what, if anything, I need to do about it. Thanks in advance for any help.

A:firewall "not detected" on sign in to AOL

To really verify you have the Win Firewall enabled, use the Windows Firewall icon in Control Panel. It may be easier to find if you switch to the Classic View for Control Panel.

Also, be aware that some AntiVirus utilities, over-ride the Windows Firewall, since they have their own. I know my Norton AntiVirus 2008 does this, but don't know if McAfee does the same.

You should actually be checking with AOL Support.

(Sorry if this was posted in the wrong forum, this place is confusing!)

Hey, I keep running into this message whenever I try to log into my PC: "Your PC is offline. Please sign in with the last password used on this PC". It's a total nightmare, I've tried all the fixes I could find and none of them have worked so far...
I've changed my Windows Live password (several times in one night) and it still gives me that same message.
Yeah, I sign into Windows 8 with my Live account... at least, I think so?
The actual computer is connected to the Internet. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting, it makes no difference.
I don't know what my last password was, that's why I changed it!
I've tried typing the password out in lower case letters, but it just isn't budging.

As I'd expect with this kind of stuff there's no straight-up answers or quick fixes. I've Googled this problem a few times and most of the results talk about a total re-installation or using some kind of third party software. Though a few posts mentioned something about the servers blocking the PC if the wrong password is used too many times, and I think that might be my issue right now?

If it makes any difference, I dual boot on this machine and I use Ubuntu 99% of the time. Ubuntu is set to French and so are all my Microsoft things, but Windows 8 is set to English, and it's been several months since I last used Windows 8. I'm not really s... Read more

Hey everyone,
I am trying to get the REST queries to work with the sharepoint end points instead of graph end points. I first created an app with relevant permissions and have given it the admin consent. Then I am hitting the https://login.microsoftonline.com/<tenant>.onmicrosoft.com/oauth2/token?Content-Type=application/x-www-form-urlencoded end
point with https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com as resource. I am then using the access token retrieved to give the rest call to https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/_api/v2.0/drives/b!3indYSbqZ0-hVSPnCgIZy-2xDMh7jH9AuQnEzJMc6TEfQoSJvJT-R6tT0lFBQiPr/root/delta
but it is failing with "error":{"code":"generalException","message":"General exception while processing"}}. The REST response code is 401 Unauthorized. I have filed a Microsoft support ticket but they
have asked me to post on these forms. Can someone please help me with this? I am not able to move forward because the error is pretty generic and doesn't give any additional details.
Thanks,
Sai Kiran Katuri.

Hello all

I just purchased a Toshiba laptop. It has Windows 7 Premium Home and it was an open box purchase. I am guessing the original buyer had created a user name which was password protected. My question is if there is a way to either enter as the admin or any other solution to my problem. I can take it back to the store and have the techies fix it, but I was wanting to be able to mess with it tonight. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A:"Open Box" lap top with 7...can't sign in

Chip,
Due to the situation,
Your best bet would to be to re-install.
This could save you from legal issues.

But on the other hand it is illegal to resale returned electronics such as laptops, ipods, etc in the united states.
This is due to the chance of sensitive data, and or the potential of offensive materials.

Also on the legal side of me helping you,
If you have a stolen laptop, and are trying to access the information on the laptop.
If I helped you I could be help partially liable for helping.

Well, I wouldnt say its a major problem atm

But at some rare occations im getting thrown out of the internett with this yellow sign with "!" in it giving me limited acess. So I was wondering why this sometime happends.

It occures when I've played some random onlinegames.

We got 3computers in the network and one of them is a download happy brother.
Could that be the reason ? When he loads some heavy stream of anykind my net goes to limited ?

Thanks In advance for reading

A:The yellow sign with "!"!

This is a very common problem with older drivers, soon as they get loaded up a bit they crash. About all you can do is look around for the very latest NIC drivers for the machines this is happening on.

Possibly even a router firmware update will help.

Everytime I sign in to my GMail, I get this email from Google saying I have a new sign-in... which is true because I just sign-in to Google Mail to check on my mail.

Previously I know there is a setting somewhere in accounts or options to turn this email notification off, and I can't seem to find it now.

How do I stop Google Mail from sending me this "New Sign-in from ...." mail?
