SD host adapter not recognizing media

Q: SD host adapter not recognizing media

Would someone possibly know whymy sd host adapter works intermittently and only wone of 4 of my sd cards?

Thank you

Preferred Solution: SD host adapter not recognizing media

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

you could try to update the driver. First try in Device Manager and if that doesn't work try going to your adapter manufacture's site for an updated driver. Ask if you don't know how to do that, someone will talk you through it.

I just installed windows 8.1 pro on an MSI z97 pc mate motherboard with I5 3.3 ghz processor, 16 gb ddr3 1600 MHz ram, with embedded realtek pcie gbe NIC. I checked and found that hardware virtualization is enabled by default in the BIOS.

I tried to set up a virtual switch using the latest bios and drivers from MSI. I created a virtual switch choosing the external option and the share with host OS option. I then connected to the VM. No network connectivity on VM but host still worked.

I then used autopatcher to update windows 8.1 on the vm. I removed and reinstalled the virtual switch choosing external option and share with host OS option. Same conditions occurred.
And then I installed the latest NIC driver. Same problem - media disconnected.

I tried this process with the latest driver from the realtek website which was a couple years more up to date. I had such high hopes! Same problem.

I then used msconfig to prevent all non-Microsoft services from starting and rebooted. I removed and recreated the switch and I was still hoping for success. Same exact conditions occurred.

These are the conditions that occur whenever an external switch with host os sharing enabled is installed in between all of these troubleshooting steps. It looks exactly the same every time...
The host machine can still access the network but it does so through the virtual switch. Ipconfig /all on the host reveals the following...

So, I recently acquired an HP EliteBook Folio 9480m. Went through the Windows and driver updates, the usual new PC setup, and then I noticed at the bottom it said "6% and not charging". So, I go through all the troubleshooting including all the various troubleshooting recommended in forums, uninstalling drivers, running HP support assist, etc, verified that the battery and AC adapter were both working with another laptop of the same model from work, and nothing.

HP's diagnostics say that the AC adapter is not working, Windows says that the battery is not charging. The only thing left that was suggested elsewhere to do is update the BIOS, which I can't do because the laptop won't recognize the AC adapter.

Any ideas?

Every time I turn on my Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop, I get the following message:
"The AC adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance."
I don't know why I am getting this message since:
- I am using the 65W Dell AC adapter that came with the laptop- The adapter is charging the battery properly- The green light on the adapter stays on all the time when in use- The port connection is fine
So, other than this annoying error message, everything seems to be working fine. Should I just ignore it ?  If not, what else do you recommend I do ?

A:PC not recognizing AC adapter although it is working well.

Hi lsavinon,
Welcome to the Community,
Since you're conforming the battery is charging fine and Adapter light always stays on,try going to BIOS (Tap F2 at start up),check under the Main screen if AC adapter is getting detected normally(if it shows 65 watt adapter).
If it shows 65 watt and if you want to get rid of that error message on start up,in BIOS go to Advanced tab, find Adapter warning and disable it.
Note:Once you disable this setting for adapter warning,in future if there is a real problem with the adapter, system will not warn you about any such problem.
Thank You

I'm only able to charge the battery with the laptop turned off. I've already tried several AC adapters and the same symtoms persist.

Last week I put together a computer. This is my third, and the first two work well. This one works almost perfectly; however, there is one error that I can't seem to get around.

Windows is having issues connecting to the network. I have a functioning ethernet cable plugged in, but it isn't recognized. When I try to diagnose the problem, I get the following error:

"Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter driver."

When I look at the device manager, the 'Network adapters' node is gone, making most of the solutions I've seen for this problem useless...

My mobo: ASRock h61m/u3s3
LAN driver I downloaded:
ASRock > Products > Motherboard > H61M/U3S3 > Download

I'll post other specs if needed.

Thanks in advance for any help. I know next to nothing about networking, so problems like this tend to scare me

I am running on windows XP Pro SP3, I have an Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 BG Network card.
Windows Zero Utility keeps omitting the specifi AP I want to connect to (It doesn't list it). Every other computer in the room detects and connects to it. My PC detects all other APs that I know of.

I have also tried using the Intel PROSet/Wireless software and got the same results.

How can I fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey all,
I've been running windows 7 pro 64 bit for just under a year now. Couple days ago the computer was on just sitting idle while i was around the house, then i noticed this message pop-up the windows firewall was not active and if i wanted to activate it, ever since then i have not been able to get the computer to recognize any sort of internet connection. Im on a wired connection to a wireless router (D-Link Xtreme-N Dual Band Gigbit), all other computers connected to the router work fine.

there is a red cross in the little network icon in the taskbar.

If I click that icon, it says ?No connections available?

If I click troubleshoot, it says ?Problems found - There might be a problem with the driver for the local area connection adapter?

If I look in the device manager, there IS an entry for ?Network Adapters?, in fact there are two:
1) Realtek PCIe GBE family controller (which i recognize as the one from my motherboard Asus P7P55D-E Pro
2) WAN Miniport (PPPOE) [i have no idea where this comes from, but it has a yellow exclamation sign above it]

I have uninstalled 1) from the device manager and let windows re-install it on reboot, i tried installing drivers from the CD the mobo came with, i tried going on another computer and getting updated drivers from the Realtek website, none of them worked.

if i try to uninstall the WAN miniport it does not disappear??

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Have you also tried a different patch network cable? or move it to a different LAN Port of your router?

If you have a separate Modem, have you tried plugging it straight to the Modem bypassing the router?

If that didn't help at all please provide an ipconfig /all output while your computer is connected to the router.
Click on the Start Menu search box area type cmd, right click on cmd see at the top, and click on Run as Administrator. From the command prompt (black screen), Copy and Paste these ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt . Please attach the .txt file to be found in your Local Disk 'C' on your next post.

This is not a firmware problem.  A BIOS update won't fix it.
If you've already tried a new OEM Dell (not a third party) adapter to no effect, the next part to replace is the DC jack in the system:
If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.

My Dell Inspiron 1501 (out of warranty and running XP Pro if that matters) has stopped recognizing the AC adapter. The adapter is a recent genuine Dell replacement for an older one that would no longer charge the battery, the second one I had had to replace because of the "AC adapter not recognized" error. It worked fine for a few weeks, and its green LED still goes on when plugged into the outlet, but now the icon in the system tray is the battery icon, not the AC icon, and the remaining battery time keeps decreasing. There is no error message; it just acts as if the AC adapter isn't there. The plug feels wobbly in the socket, so something is loose.

Googling around for information suggests that depending on what's wrong, it could be fixed with a bit of soldering, or the motherboard may need to be replaced (i.e., time to get a new computer). I've done minor repairs inside desktops, swapping out memory, drives, etc., but nothing that involved soldering. I'm also considering getting a spare battery and an external charger and swapping between batteries to keep it running -- it's a decent machine apart from its power problems and I'd rather not have to replace it just yet.

- How can I tell whether the socket can just be re-soldered or the motherboard really would need to be replaced for the AC adapter to be recognized again?
- If it may be relatively simple to fix, are instructions available online? Pictures or diagrams would ... Read more

I have purchased two PCI Network Adapters and for each I have received a "The device is not configured correctly (Code 1)" error in Vista's Device Manager when trying to manually locate and add the drivers, either from the software accompanying the adapters or from the companies websites (I have tried products from Linksys and Belkin). After hours on the phone with tech support ppl, who were conviced the software I got was corrupt--not true-- I think it might be best to install a new OS (revert back to XP) because I want results.

Has anyone been able to find a way out of this predicament in VISTA?

Please note I have tried the basics, i.e. going to Device Manager and trying to search for the drivers or manually add them from software or company's website. No matter what I do, I get an error message indicating that the drivers can't be found - even if I have "browsed" to them!

Thanks very much all

A:PCI Network Adapter problem in Vista - Not recognizing drivers

When browsing for them make sure "Include Sub-Folders" is ticked and search "C:\". That might give you a much better chance of locating them. As for Internet locating you can't really change how it scans for that. Maybe a disk came with your hardware containing the Adapter's Drivers.

Hey hows it going? My problem with my computer is that under device manager my ethernet, USB controllers and wireless adapter appear w/o their drivers. I never had this issue before. But funnily enough, I everything is fine except for my wireless adapter. Windows cannot recognize it and so I can't install the drivers for it. This just started happening a couple of days ago but I don't really have any clue why. All I can think of is there is a virus going round.

So far all I can think of is doing a fresh install of windows.

Anything else that might see the end to this madness?

I run a laptop and projector for my church. We have a Sony VAIO AR520 powerhouse media laptop with Windows Vista. It was originally hooked up through the corresponding HDMI port to our VPL-AW15 Sony Projector but sony has replaced the port once and it quit again. We switched to the vga hookup but because it is analog and not digital, it won't allow us to play our church videos. We bought a UGA adapter usb 2. When we hook up the HDMI adapter and change the VPL-AW15 Sony projector back to the hdmi screen, the projector doesn't talk to the laptop and switch the NVIDIA to a dual screen. I am not able to manually switch it to a dual screen, thus we have no picture on the projector. Before the HDMI port went bad, all we had to do was turn on the projector first and then switch on the laptop and it automatically detected the dual setting and brought up the dual screen for our media shout programming. I have exhausted all the things I know to try so if anyone has ideas please I can use the help. Thanks in advance and God Bless!

Hello all,

Ive got a really annoying problem with my dvd+rw drive. Maybe its due to the fact I got it under 100 dollars but i dunno(advertised as ULTRA DVD+RW 4x4x12, But im pretty sure it is a BenQ).

Initially it was working fine. But for some reason it decided to not work. It does even recognize any type of disc I put in. Neither CDs nor DVDs. The drive light blinks for a few seconds and then goes away. Some dvds I put in the drive gets kind of loud with the light blinking. This problem is really annoying.

Its wierd too, cuz with other drives, when there is no disc inserted, when double clicked it will tell you to "please insert a disc in drive ...". However, with this dvd+rw drive of mine, it simply opens as if there is a disk inserted (obviously with an empty folder)....

Please help....Ive tried everything
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

The internet connectivity works only wirelessly.  The direct connectivity (connecting the laptor with Cisco Router using a chord) works for sometime and goes off, and WiFi takes over.
Sounds like Dell has solution to this problem.  They tried all usual commonsense ideas and also changed the motherboard, but finally gave up or left it to fate.  There is no problem with Cisco EA3500 dual band router as I have other gadgets connected.  Tried with another another laptop (also Dell), changed chord, tried different slots in the router.
Dell 15 laptop is still covered under warranty.
Can't Dell fix this problem?

I'm running Windows XP SP 2. On my PC, I've got four USB ports in the back and two in the front. At first, I connected an iPod to the front ports and all was well, but later it stopped connecting, though it would still charge slowly. When I tried the ports in the back, it connected, but then stopped (though it still charged).

I've got a Creative player also, and the ports worked long enough for me to install all the wares for it. But I've been having the same problems with it recently. The bubble occasionally tells me it detected new hardware (even though it's not new), then say it malfunctioned, but it usually just tells me the device has malfunctioned and to reconnect it.

Of course, I have no problem connecting these players to a different computer.

I've also got two other things (station for wireless keyboard/mouse and the printer) plugged in to the rear ports, and they work fine.

Any ideas? And thanks.

Hello. My 1300a dvd burner has stopped recognizing dvd media. Windows 98 now sees this drive as cd-rom only. This drive has worked fine for nearly two years without a problem. The other day I tried making a copy of my kids' Dora The Explorer dvd. But having them run around me and bumping into me, I accidently started two instances of CloneDVD, versions 1398 and 2094. After that, the dvd drive got amnesia and no longer remembered how to read dvd media. I uninstalled both versions, physically disconnecting the drive from my pc, reinstalling Windows 98, and upgrading the 1300a's firmware -- still the problem persists. Ironically, the drive has no problems with cd media. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well, that usually means that there is some kind of memory conflict with the card.

Maybe with a sound card or modem you have installed... can you try taking out all cards but video and the SCSI? See if the problem goes away? You don't need to let it go into Windows of course - the error happens long before that.

However, if I just click on the small top arrow next to "Now Playing" in WMP, it recognizes the D Drive and I can play all the tracks on the audio cd.I have no problem playing DVDs in the D Drive.I'd appreciate any help you can give me in solving this annoying problem.radioron

HP Pavilion Model m9150f For some reason it no longer recognizes My Pocket Media Disks or exteral usb drive!

A:My system is not recognizing pocket media disks or any other...

I have had a similar issue with my home computer doing this to an external drive and my Android phone. The external drive I ended up having to plug it in thru an IEEE 1394 (firewire) port for it to recognize. I suspect the issue you are running into is very similar to mine. Is your external drive's power supplied by the computer or does it have an external power source? Same for the pocket media drive. If youa re running them off of the computer power, the motherboard may no longer be supplying enough power to it to activate as it once did (assuming it worked fine like this before).  Some things to try: 1. Unplugging the external drives for a few seconds and plugging them in. 2. Use the USB ports on the back of the computer. Regardless of brand, I've found these work much better for external storage devices than front ports. 3. Make sure you have drivers installed if they are supplied by the manufacturer.4. You can also go into Device Manager and uninstall USB controllers, USB Composite Device and USB Root Hub. Restart the computer and Windows will reload all of them. Test it out then and see if that helps.

I just finished going through and editing the music in my "music" file. It seemed to recognize most of my changes but some of the albums it didn't recognize and labeled them as "other". In the "music" file everything is labeled but in the media player it says that somethings aren't labeled. What may be causing this problem? Is there a way to update the player to recognize the changes or something? I am really stumped.

I just bought a Samsung EVO 860 250gb for my Lenovo T430, and replaced my old HDD with it. Whenever I go to start up the laptop with the SSD installed, it gives me an error "media test failure check cable". I then re-installed my HDD and the laptop started up as normal. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? The computer recognizes the new SSD in the boot menu, but will not start from there. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

A:T430 recognizing new SSD, but saying "media test failure"

Have you cloned your old HDD to the SSD or installed a new installation of Windows onto the SSD already?    If not, it will not be able to boot from the new drive since it has no OS from which to boot.      The error you are getting is probably from the system trying to boot from the network (PXE boot) and since there is no network to boot from, is telling you to check the [ethernet] cable. Best of luck,

Ok, I've had this computer for about 5 years now and used 1 of the MP3 players for 3 years, the other MP3 player for about a year. They worked fine up until about 2 months ago. When you plug them the computer "sees them"; however, it won't recognize them. IE, under "my computer" I can see that they are there, but I cannot transfer files to them.

On the other hand both my camera's(photo and vid) will download onto the comp. I did not downloan anything, intentionally, prior to this condition.

On a side note, I have an aborted Windows re-install that I'd like to get rid of(happened years ago). Every time I restart I have to select whether I want to run the aborted install version, or the correct one. It's more of a hassle then a problem, but I just found this site and thought I'd throw it out there.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Forgot to add, the two mp3 players are different brands and run on different software, and I've tried re-installing the software.

What network adapter settings mean vms can communicate with each other but not with host? Thanks
Vmware Workstation 10

A:Network adapter settings to isolate vm from host

Hi there

Some sort of Switch / subnet probably required here with firewall settings also perhaps to block communications from the subnet.

I think this is more of a Networking issue than a VM one itself. The other question - do you still want the HOST to have access to the Internet.

I've only done this where I've had a SINGLE VM which needed Internet access for a "Dodgy site" --was testing a Virus and so I attached the NIC physically to the VM and disabled networking on the HOST while I was testing.

However if you need Internet and LAN access on the HOST and you have more than one VM running concurrently I should ask the Network gurus as this is outside my area of expertise. I suspect also you might need two Physical NIC's for this - one for the Host and one for the subnet your VM's are on - but I can't give any more help than that.

Try asking @Kari -- I'm sure he's done things like that but he uses HYPER-V which is also a good system if you have W10 pro or Enterprise.

I want to connect several VM's mainly Cisco router to same network adapter (vmnet1 host-only network adapter) and want to pass multiple VLAN's as Tagged. I am able to achieve this requirement through bridged network adapter but unable to do so through host-only
adapter. I am using Windows 7 as main OS and VMware Workstation 11.
I have gone through several tech forums but unable to find answer for it. Though in multiple forums one statement was common that Windows will strip the VLAN information when packet received/transmits through network adapter.
I would really appreciate if anyone can help me with this.

Appreciate some assistance.

Was changing BIOS settings (PnP/PCI Configuration) while installing a modem (IRQ 3 was set to Legacy/ISA), and enabled "Reset Configuration Data". What in the heck possessed me to do that, do not know. Saved changes, exited BIOS, and after
that, got the following message on the screen:
"Host adapter hard reset timeout.
BIOS not installed.
Unable to enable/disable host adapter shadow RAM."

Have a SCSI hd connected to an Adaptec Host Adapter (1540CF/1542CF). Tried Control>A to access the BIOS of the AHA, but NOTHING happened. Needless to say, cannot access the SCSI drive C:/

Did I fry the goose on this one? Needless to say, need some help.

Can you not get back into the bios??

If not, try taking the battery out and putting it back in and restarting.

I am using Windows XP. I recently installed a new modem. The modem works beautifully, but I cannot print. When I look at the device manager I notice that the Adaptec AHA-1502 SCSI Host Adapter is using IRQ 10 and I/O Range 0140-0154. THe Generic 56K HCF Data Fax Modem is also using IRQ 10 I/O Range EC00-EC07 and Memory Range E9000000 - E900FFFF. There is a check mark on both property boxes for use automatic settings. No Conflicts are listed in the conflicting device list for the modem, but the conflicting device list for the SCSI host adapter lists these conflicts:
Interrupt Request 10 used by: Generic 56k HCF Data Fax Modem
Intel(r) 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller.
The Use automatic check box is checked but grayed out in the property box for the modem, but is checked and not grayed out in the property box for the SCSI host adapter. Any suggestions?

A:Modem Conflicts with SCSI Host Adapter

If it were mine I would go to Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and delete all references to a modem.

Shut down and move your modem to PCI #3 or the third slot down from the AGP slot)

Boot up and enter BIOS setup menu.....when you get there, then go to the PnP area and DISABLE it if you are using WinXP. (If it were Win98, then you would enable it)

Save and Exit and reboot

When it boots, add the latest and best drivers from the manufacturer's website for the modem.

That should solve your problem.

I've set my autorun to autoplay DVDs in media center when inserted. When playing a video off my HD in the Media Center, then inserting a DVD, Vista refuses to see the DVD or any other movie I insert! When I quit Media Center, the DVD is suddenly recognized and everything works fine. I want to use this without a keyboard in my living room, so this solution isn't viable. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, this is my first post, so I'm sorry if I posted something incorrectly!

A:Vista not recognizing DVDs while Media Center is Running

Use a program like PowerDVD, it works much better for DVD's.

We recently purchased a used dell Inspiron 660 from a computer
recycler. They had removed the hard drive. We have replaced the hard drive. We got
a Dell Windows 8.1 recovery media for windows 8.1 products 64 bit DVD on Ebay. It
has PN JDNFT on the DVD and PN ORGH4G on the label on the sleeve seal. When
beginning to reload Windows with this DVD it does not automatically find the COA in
the Bios and it asks for a COA Key. I used an utility and found the Bios key. I tried manually entering this key and it says that
it is an invalid key. Do I have the incorrect recovery disk, or is there another
problem? Windows 8 label indicates that the computer originally had window 8 (not pro).

A:Reloading windows 8.1 from recovery media not recognizing COA in Bios

8.1  media will not recognize 8.0 keys.
You have to use the Non Activation Key and then change it online.
Once installed and online you run Slui.exe 4
Showkeyplus may be required to get the actual key in bios
Version history: Update Version 1.0.6125 Bugfix:

Version check returning null error

Bug fix:

Product key checking referencing incorrect dll. on Windows
Since you have 8.1 media you will need to use the 8.1 home key.

Install now, Activate later

In previous versions, it was possible to install Windows without key, run it as trial for up to 120 days, and enter a product key later. This option on first sight seems to have been removed as of Windows 8.

Pre-install Windows 8.x or Windows 10 with a generic key. These keys can only install Windows. It's not possible to activate using these keys.

Hey guys, quick noob question here..

I'm trying to hook up a new wireless network in my house and bought a new N 300mbps router and an upgraded wireless adapter.

When setting up the router, does it need to be hard connected to a host PC or can it just be connected to the modem only for the network to operate?
I want the modem and router to be off in another room while i connect to it via my new wireless network adapter on my PC. Does the network (router/modem) need to be connected to a host PC to work properly? If this is the case, then i just bought a new network adapter for no reason....

Thanks for any assistance.

A:Wireless adapter, router- is host computer required??

Router goes to modem. That's all you need. The only time a hard-wired connection is handy is when you want to change the router's settings or update its firmware, but otherwise it needs to be connected to nothing else.

I installed a PCI firewire card that i ordered, and my computer doesnt boot. It makes a couple of beeping noises (more than usual) and the computer just doesnt boot. I think it might be an IRQ conflict between the PCI firewire card and my new AGP graphics card, because my monitor doesn't work whenever the firewire card is in. These are some devices in my PCI slots: sound card, modem card, and ethernet adapter. Here are the specs: 500 MHz PC, pentiumIII, 512MB SDRAM, Windows XP Pro.

Is there a way I can install my PCI firewire card and make the computer boot? Thanks in advance for any advice.

A:Installed PCI 1394 Firewire Host Adapter, computer doesnt boot

Look up the beep codes in your motherboards manual and see what they mean exactly. It can be something as simple as a loose keyboard cable.

You could also try putting the controller in another PCI slot. The first and the last PCI slots are not the best ones to use since usually those share resources with other motherboard devices.
