I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Last week, I purchased a refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Yoga Chromebook.  When I received it, it was sealed in the original packaging with a sticker indicating that it had been refurbished at a Lenovo facility.  When I turned it on, I got stuck at the Enterprise Enrollment screen.  It seems that it was registered to the domain of the original owner and would not let anyone login without credentials for that domain.  The trackpad was also non-responsive, but I figured once I logged in, I could toggle the trackpad settings and get it working. There was a link to contact Google for help with this, so I followed those instructions.  Google said that they could not help me, and that I'd need to contact the original owner to have them de-register the device.  Since I had no connection to the original owner, I contacted the seller who apologized and told me that, since the device had a full warranty, Lenovo should be able to fix the issue. So, I contacted Lenovo for help on Sunday.  The Tech Support Agent that I spoke to first tried to tell me to return the device and get something that ran Windows since Chrome OS and Android are inferior(!).  Anyway, once I assured him that I did indeed want a Chromebook and knew all about Chrome OS, he told me that I could send it in for repair, and that all they'd need to do was wipe the system and re-install the OS with a consumer image instead of the enterprise image that was on the m... Has any one out in ChromebookLand been able to use the acclaimed system to show picture full screen from sets of jpg files? Due to the puny memory capacity, and difficult to work with external SD card slot, I tried to connect a Sandisk Media drive. The Media drive connects very well, but the display operations of pictures is just not professional.  The keystrokes are quasi not functional or not present.  When giving the show, I need to waste time explaing the customer what to do, and the 'slides' are not full screen, but small.  The colors ARE GREAT, but that is about it. As an aisde, any one ever wonder why the letters are in lower case????  My 5 year old asked me.

Hi there, I have a couple N22 Chromebook devices where it says that the Camera is not detected and to check the connection.  I have tried power washing, resetting settings and also looked at the connection and it seems to be connected.  I know I sent a couple in last year for this same issue, but now they are of warranty, so I am wondering if anyone else can help me out with this.  Thanks in advance.

Hi, I just purchased my Lenovo N22-20 Chromebook from Amazon. However, I am having problems getting into Recovery Mode using the instructions published here https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/1080595?hl=en-GB&source=genius-rts. When I press and hold esc + refresh, then press the power button (for about half a second)- it immediately shutsdown my chromebook, it doesn't go into recovery mode. I tried this sequence with the chromebook off and it does nothing. I tried the sequence before and after logging in too.  I also tried esc + refresh on it's own as some posts suggested just those two keys. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a different set of keystrokes that need to be used with a Lenovo N22-20? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Just something that we as a schoolboard found out about these devices, is that they use a magnet to sense when the lid is closed.  This issue that this causes is that if you have the devices stacked on top of each other that the magnet from the device below will stop the top one from turning on.  Some of our techs had them stacked while they were trying to enroll a large number of devices.  This is just an FYI.

I haven't used my chromebook for about 3 days. It was probably completely dead. I went to turn it on and the screen was white. I hit the power button and it shut off. When I tried to turn it back on, nothing. I plugged it in and the orange charging light came on. Still nothing. Let it charge overnight until the green fully charged light came on. Nothing. I've tried holding the refresh and power buttons as well as the esc, refresh, and power buttons. I've tried unplugging it and holding the power button down and then plugging it back in. Still nothing. There is no external battery. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I've got an old soundblaster live 5.1 ( NO I will not get rid of it ) and the sound quality is terrible. I installed it through windows update recently. I tried all the sound formats in options and couldn't hear any difference. Kx drivers did wonders for this card in XP but right now they don't work too well with Vista's new mixer ( thats pretty important to me, need to do recording etc ), but atleast I made sure the hardware is fine (sounds great with kx drivers). Has anyone heard of this or found a solution to it?

I've searched for a solution to this and so far I haven't gotten anywhere.

The problem is quite simple, really. I need to have the mic boost on when I use it. It keeps turning off by itself and I cannot figure out why. I left that control window open with the option checked so I could maybe find out what was happening when it turned off, and after a while it just turned off and I hadn't done or changed anything else at that moment. I was using the microphone, but it had been on for a while already.

I thought it was Skype, so I went into Skype options and UNchecked the option to let skype control my audio devices. I read online somewhere that updating to the latest drivers (I have an Audigy 2 ZS) from Creative would fix the problem, so I updated them. So far nothing has worked (obviously, or else I wouldn't be posting about it). I've also searched the Creative audio settings and haven't found anything relevant.

I hope someone can help me. It's quite a nuisance. The worst part is that I don't know when it happens. I'll be talking on Skype or streaming live on JTV, and after a while I'll notice that people are having a hard time understanding me... then I go check the mic boost and, sure enough, it's off again.

I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Creative Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card
2 hard drives

I have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS card, which has been working for several years. I have two drives on my system - an older one which I copied last year over to a newer 1 TB drive and now boot into the 1 TB drive.

Both drives contain this Mic Boost issue, because it began before the swap, ie., when you check the boost box and close the window, then open it again, it reveals that it never stays checked. I have googled everywhere to find a solution, to no avail. I have two games on which I use the microphone with boost applied. One game looks at this setting, sees it is unchecked, and so unchecks it's own setting for the mic, but if I set the game boost it will stay until the end of the game. In otherwords, the card IS capable of a +20db mic boost. The other game is set to boost and does not seem to care what is going on with the Windows mixer settings as it remains on when checked, even after closing and reopening the game.

Now, last week, I decided to work on the problem again. I've googled. I've tried a ton of things including drivers and it doesn't fix it.

During this phase of repair efforts last week I decided to try disabling the Audigy card driver and try the Realtek built-in chipset and a few other things. When I did that, suddenly my whole Audio tab under "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" was grey'ed ou... Read more

Yeah I am at my wits end trying to figure this issue out. I have had the Creative Audigy 2 sound card for 6 years. The original driver the settings would stay the same and never uncheck itself. The last few driver updates have caused this issue. The 1 Microphone +20dB Boost keeps getting unchecked in Windows Play Control. I mean I can go in under Advanced tab and check the box. Then close the box and go back to it and it is now unchecked. It never stays checked. For that matter I can't even get the Microphone mute box to stay checked under Windows Playback. I have read where the Cthelper.exe loading at startup might cause this and has been known to reset the speakers back to 2.1 and may do the same to the mic boost. Well I stopped that from loading and rebooted my computer. Tried to check the Mic Boost and it still unchecks itself. This is a rather annoying issue. I have to manually check it everytime I wanna talk on the mic. Which is daily. Anyone know how to get the mic boost and the Microphone mute box to stay checked? Thanks.

The fan in my laptop wasn't spinning (causing it to quickly overheat) so I opened it up and unplugged/replugged the fan's connection to the motherboard. After I had it all back together, I found that it will no longer start.

When I press the power button the power lights in the button and the front of the laptop both come on, and the fan spins (guess I fixed one thing) for about two seconds before stopping. The backlight for the laptop monitor does not come on, and my external hdmi monitor doesn't recognize it's connected to something. The laptop is not reaching POST or bios obviously.

Basically I can't think of what the issue might be that would cause this, and any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I've been having a problem fixing a friends laptop. The os was not loading although it would on occasion, she asked if i could have a look at it and I attempted to fix using system restore and last known good config as well as startup repair. The problem is, now it refuses to boot at all. When it attempts to load windows i get a blue screen and an error message telling me there is a %hs file missing. I can't do a clean install as most of her stuff is on os drive and i don't know how to go about fixing it. I can only really access the startup repair screen then after that i only have the cmd to work with. Can anyone help me please?

My friend’s computer is a Dell (Pentium 4?) running on Win XP. The case says “Dimension 4500” and I am not able to open up the case. Anyway, suddenly without any reason it boots up to the windows screen for several minutes then goes black. It’s got power with lights and fans working.

Since there are no beeps, I am assuming it passed the POST.

The initial boot screen (BIOS?) does show. If I select “last known config” option the same thing. If I select “safe mode” it goes to a black screen with “safe mode” on the corners of the screen.

I booted from the CD and did a repair install from the CD. At one point I actually got a DOS c: prompt and did a chkdsk. It booted up to windows with only a few programs showing and no start menu. I tried to go to device manager or Norton utilities, and the programs did not work.

I am now back to the same situation. The computer will not boot up even after another repair install of windows from the CD. I think in my frustration I even did a complete new install of windows. I have never been able to get back to a DOS c: prompt.

I thought about removing several items from the motherboard to see if something is shorting it out, however I first have to get some special tools or something in order to take the case apart, since it is a Dell.

So I am fixing my moms computer, a Dell desktop running vista h.p. 64. I booted it up and it went to system restore, and came out with an error like this: Vista start up repair failed?..
I then tried to run all of the options that the computer gives me, including startup repair, system restore, complete pc restore, memory diagnosic tool, open cmd. I have not tried the factory reinstall, as i would rather not loose her data. I cannot run either restores formally mentioned, as she never backed up and created a restore.
Now, when i boot to safe mode, it will redirect me to the original screen i linked, creating a loop. Booting into any safe mode does this. Also, when i try to insert the vista repqir disc and select boot from CD drive, it again loops back to the mentioed screen.
I then tried to place the diseased hd into the primary slot of another desktop of simialr age, so that i could boot it, copy her files onto an extrenal, then do a clean install of vista. This resulted in it coming to a black screen that says, media test failure, pxe, check cable.

And im stuck. Can anyone take over?

No, a Windows 7 repair disc will not work on a Windows 8 computer, and vice versa.  However, a Windows 8 repair disc will work on a Windows 8 computer.  And yes, you can boot Hiren's and UBCD (if that is what you mean) as long as you switch to CSM mode if it's a UEFI computer.

Apologies in advance for long post but I believe the more info I give to anyone trying to help the better.

I am having a bit of a problem trying to repair my windows 7 Home Premium installation. I booted the computer from the windows 7 installation disk and selected 'Repair your computer' then received the error message 'This version of System recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair...'. After a lot of googling I discovered that this error may be shown if trying to repair a windows installation if it has SP1 and the installation disk does not. I downloaded an iso of win7 home premium with SP1 and burnt it to a disk. When I try to repair with this disk I get the same message.

Here is a history of why I came to be repairing in the first place.

Played Skyrim - computer crashed every time and when I restarted got the message 'bootmanager not found' (or something similar) After restarting the computer again windows would load fine.

Stopped playing skyrim but played many other games with no repeat of this problem.

3 months or so later (2 days ago) - Installed XCom Enemy unknown demo and played for 10 mins before computer crashed with a return of the 'bootmanager not found' message. This time I could not get windows to load at all, I kept getting this message.

I read on the internet how to fix the bootmanager by booting from the windows disk, choosing command prompt from the system recovery options and entering the command ... Read more

Hello! My notebook will not boot up at all. I find this odd, considering I sent my notebook to HP (through Best Buy) for repairs due to a phantom mouse issue. I even attempted a hard reset (Power button & Mute Button for 15 seconds) to no avail. Prior to sending my notebook in for repairs it would function normally aside from the mouse issue, but now the notebook will not even turn on. I do receive an error code from the CAPS LOCK light. It flashes normally 5 times, then gives 3 fast flashes. According to the table of sample blink codes, this means that I have a general board failure. It is unfortunate that this has happened immediately after a repair, but I would like to find some solutions to this issue as soon as possible. Thank you.

My computer was only running firefox and then completely froze out and I couldnt open task manager, switch users or anything. I let the computer sit there for a while not wanting to click anything thinking it would unfreeze by itself in a short while, and then suddenly a noise started coming out at regular intervals. Then the computer just switched off.

On restart I got a BSOD that i wrote down but ive lost the paper for the error message now. I ran the Recovery Console from the XP CD and chkdsk /r and it finished. When i restarted I got another BSOD:

"UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

I ran chkdsk /r using the Recovery Console again, with it completing and then this time on restart I got another BSOD message.

"Stop:C0000135 (unable to locate component) This application has failed to start because USP10.dll was found. Re-installing the application may fix this"

I ran chkdsk again a few times and nothing happened, still getting the same BSOD message on restart.

After more googling I found out to run a repair installation from the XP CD instead of the Recovery Console, the website I used just told me to "continue with on-screen instructions". So I ran the repair installation and the first time I ran it, the computer restarted and I thought it had been fixed. Windows XP appeared to be installing itself for the first time and I paniced because I thought I had accidentally pressed the wrong button and chosen to fresh i... Read more

I searched the threads for an existing post and I couldn't find one that matched my problem. Sorry if a solution has already been posted somewhere.

I have a new Acer 1410 w/ 4GB of DDR2 memory and a 1.6 CULV processor. It came with Vista Home Premium installed, but I downloaded Windows 7 Ultimate from my technet subscription. Because I don't have an optical drive I had to install from a USB stick. I did this without any problems at all.

Windows 7 has been booting fine and running great for about a week now. I haven't recenly loaded any new software or drivers. Yesterday I shut down my laptop normally; when I tried to reboot an hour later I was shown the "loading files" screen and was then taken to the Windows Startup Repair option. Windows spent an hour trying to repair whatever was wrong with my startup and I was finally given an error message that it couldn't make any repairs.

I tried going to the DOS prompt and fixing the boot manager and boot file; interestingly all this did was suddenly give me the option to boot Windows 7 or Windows Vista (!!!). I still get the Windows Startup Repair when I try booting Windows 7. If I try to boot Vista (I was curious) it takes me all the way to the login screen but then tells me I have files missing if I try to login, which is fine - I wasn't trying to set up a dual boot anyways.

Here's the part that's really got me stumped: If I try booting my laptop into install (using the bootable USB stick I created to se... Read more

A:Windows 7 stopped booting; Can't repair.

UPDATE: I may have some new information. I've booted to the install menu and picked "Repair your computer". From there I went to the command prompt and typed "sfc /scannow".

I received this message:

"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."

I'm trying to repair my master boot record but when I try to access the repair my computer option using the DVD, it doesn't come up.... Instead goes straight to the drive options.
Anyone seen this before?

A:MBR Missing... No option to repair computer when booting from DVD

Here's How:
1. Boot your computer to the Windows 7 DVD (or to a "Repair CD"). At this screen choose to install now.

2. Select your language and click next.

3. Click the button for "Use recovery tools".

4. Then select "Command Prompt".

5. When open, the command prompt will look like this:

6. The command we will use, bootsect.exe, is in a folder (named boot) on the DVD.
We need to know what drive letter has been assigned the DVD drive to access the folder.

Code:
Type: diskpart
and press Enter
Type: select disk 0 (zero)
and press Enter
type: list volume
and press Enter
In this screen shot, the 7 DVD is letter: G

Hello everyone, first off, I hope that I'm posting this in the correct forum.

So, last night my computer froze when I was alt-tabbing between Marvel Heroes and my desktop as I normally do, unfortunately, when it froze I could not alt-ctrl-del my way out of things to get to the task manager, so I was forced to power it down.

When I tried booting it back up, the system just hung there until I booted a second time and was directed to everyone's favorite repair tool, which ran all night long without ever stopping. After deciding that being in a loop for over 12 hours was a bit excessive, I decided to take further steps by creating a recovery disc on my old laptop.

Once I used the disc, I managed to get the startup repair to analyze things in a minute. However, this showed that my C: partition was nowhere to be found.

Needless to say, I followed various instructions to try and fix things on my own, only to discover that I have 0-byte registry hives and now if I try to reboot, it tells me the following is missing:

File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc0000034

I tried to reset things to its factory settings, but even pressing the factory reset button on my laptop only gives me the above error message. So unfortunately I have no installation disc.

So now I'm here to see if anyone can direct me in the right direction to solve this annoyance.

I did look in the BIOS to make sure that it still recognizes my HD, and it shows that it's there, so I'm hoping this isn't hardware failure.

I am stuck in a odd situation with my laptop. It's now gotten to the point where I just want to do a repair of Windows and hope that fixes things, but whenever I boot into my Windows XP CD, it says that it can't find any hard drives on my laptop. I can still boot into safe mode and access my files, so my hard drive is obviously there.

Is there a way to initiate a windows repair WITHOUT booting into the CD? Or, can anyone think of why my CD can't find my hard drive?

Hello all,

I will try my best to be concise and provide the necessary information. I own the Fujitsu T5010 Tablet PC. It did not manage to safely shutdown yesterday and I find myself unable to boot up the computer like usual. It will reach the screen with "Microsoft Corporation" below a loading bar, and will prompt a restart after a few mins wait, sometimes with a BSOD that flashes for a split second before the laptop restarts.

I then proceed to the StartUp recovery and attempt to repair the problem. However, a cmd window will open with error messages such as

"Unable to restore the data because the hard disk can not be recognized. Please contact Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation or your dealer""The recovery and the utility disc can not be started because of the unexpected error in the hard disk. Please try again to restart the Recovery and Utility disc. If you see the same error again, there is a possibility that tour hard disk might be corrupt."
These error messages will show up without fail whenever I try to StartUp repair. Thinking that it may be a hard disk failure, I went to the bios setup to check. The drives are (correctly, I presumed) displayed as

Drive0 [Hitachi HTS54323...]Drive1 [MAT****ADVD-RAM UK8...]
I initially suspected a hard disk failure, as I have the HDD replaced in this very same laptop about 1.5 years ago. But this time, it was different. Using Ultimate Boot CD or the Windows Vista Recovery Disc, I was able to n... Read more

Welcome
Sure sounds like HD problems to me, too.
Take one of these HD tests to be sure.

Test Hard Drive HD Diagnostic or this test www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

Have all of your stuff backed up, just in case
Run the system chkdsk and then format.
