question about adding Audacity to my current configuration

Q: question about adding Audacity to my current configuration

Hi guys,
I've been fooling around with audio editing lately, and I'm just curious if Audacity's a good addition to a computer that has Sound Forge 10 Audio Studio installed. Will the difference in features between the two take care of different things? Or is it just kind of a repeat? Many thanks.

Preferred Solution: question about adding Audacity to my current configuration

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: question about adding Audacity to my current configuration

I don't have Sound Forge 10 Audio Studio. (looks like a really cool program). Should have good Sony support. I use Audacity for editing and making mp3's and mp4's it is simple and works. The Audacity support is a forumI think I would use the Sony if I had it.

I just received an E6420 billed as an i7-2720QM, 4 Core CPU.  I'm almost certain that when I viewed the BIOS it also identified as such.
I upgraded the BIOS from A01 to A05, and then form A05 to A24.  Now, the machines current configuration identifies the CPU as an i7-2640M 2 core CPU, but with a -4 appendix, as if the machine knows it has 4 cores.  I would like to know once and for all what I actually have without disassembly.

You're safe. Isn't AVAST premier on top of COMODO, MBAE, MBAM real-time a bit overkill, though? CIS + MBAM and Crystal Security/Zemana on-demand is quite a bit of malware prot by itself. Thanks for sharing your config.

Well, this was my standard setup so far. As I'm planning to upgrade to W10 soon, I want to expand/alter this accordingly. Especially after a company I work for has had a close encounter with Locky Ransomware. I am hoping to learn a lot from more experienced users here.

That's it for now.

Hi!
Nice setup, however you can consider setting UAC to max and OS updates to "automatic".
My second thought is Admuncher - do you really need it since you have uBlock Origin? Isn't AdMuncher a dead product?

I tried to find the current system configuration on Dell's support web site for the OptiPlex 755 I recently inherited. However, after running this web based application, the only result available was the original system config as it shipped on the date of purchase. Selecting "current configuration" caused the "system detect" app to run, which brings me back to the original config tab.
I accessed dell . com using IE 11 with no addons running. Does anyone know why dell's app will not report the current config?  I am unable to open the box, so please do not suggest that or any solution that does not involve resolving the issue with Dell's support web site.

Thanks in advance,

A few friends have PlayStation 2's so I'm trying to hook mine up for interent play through my wireless network.

First problem: My wireless network consists of 2 computers connected wirelessly through a NetGear MR814 Router. I have never had a problem with this network. However, the only wireless device that I could find for PS2 was a Linksys WGA11B Game Adapter. I have since reconfigured the WGA11B to communicate with my network. When I plug it into my router I receive both an Ethernet connection and Internet connection but when I hook it up to my PS2 I get neither.

Second problem: I believe the first problem and overall problem has something to do with port forwarding. I have gone to the EASports MVP 2004 site to find out the ports used by the game and received the following information:

Ports 10500-10519 TCP outgoing for MVP 2004 server
Port 13505 TCP outgoing EA Messenger
Port 10002 UDP incoming/outgoing for connecting to another user to play game
port 6000 UDP incoming/outgoing for connecting to another user for headset during game.

The MR814 allows all outgoing port actions however I need to open up ports for incoming traffic. Would I only have to open Port 10002? I don't have headset so the 6000 Port isn't an issue at this time.

Thanks for taking time out a reading my problem.

I am switching ISP's, hopefully sometime this coming Monday.
Where do I look in my system to uninstall/delete the current one?
I am assuming I should perform that action before I connect to the new service?
I will be dropping a cable provider + going to a high speed (DSL) one.
I was advised at the Mozilla forum to first contact the new provider to know if it will still be a POP type, whatever that is,what port I need to use, etc.

I am using Thunderbird to view all of my email accounts+want to make sure the new account will carry over also. I realize there is a "wizard" of sorts in Thunderbird for this, but I don't know.
Previously I had a friend via remote assistance set it all up for me,so I am nervous about trying this without understanding what I'm doing.

Thank you

A:Adding a new ISP+wanting to delete the current one

Well, I finally was reconnected to the internet-whew!
My new ISP is AT+T but my emails have to be sent thru Yahoo. I can not send any emails using Thunderbird any more since I switched from Comcast to AT+T.

I have touched base with the Mozilla forum, but do not have the issue resolved. The only way I can send email is to go thru Yahoo. I more than likely have some setting(s) wrong, but I sure can figure it out. Before I switched my ISP I was able to send+receive all of my email accounts thru Thunderbird.

Please help me sort this out.

Greetings everyone...again! I have been reading information on some various security-related items, such as, Spywareblaster, Hphosts, and MVPS...trying to grasp an understanding of each. I must admit...I'm not the most adept at understanding all the technical jargon and just what it is these things do.My sole question is: Would downloading/installing Spywareblaster be of any real benefit, given the security features I already have (shown in my signature line for your reference)?Thank you for your time, indulgence, and any enlightenment!

A:Would adding Spywareblaster to my current security be of benefit?

My sole question is: Would downloading/installing Spywareblaster be of any real benefit, given the security features I already have (shown in my signature line for your reference)? It's one more layer of protection that doesn't use any resources other than a little drive space, so yes it would be beneficial. My security is similar to yours, I've had SpywareBlaster installed and up to date for years without any problems. Just remember to check for updates every 10 days or so.

I'm currently running Windows Vista and Windows Xp in a 64 bit environment. I would like to add Windows 7. Is it as simple as installing Windows 7 in a separate partition? If not can someone give me some ideas or point me in right direction. I have not used Virtual Machine 2007 but would consider if this makes sense. Thanks for your help.

A:Adding Windows 7 to current XP Pro and Vista multiboot environment

Yes, a new partition would do it. Vista & W7 must be retail copies.

I had tri-boot 10 months ago, but ditched it because of space constraints. If you go virtual, be vigilant as BSODs may develop, especially with an x86/ x64 mixture.

Also the users will be using almost all the same programs and files just the with different information.

But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the
Local Security Policy so you may need to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for that.

This is easier to control with a server like Windows Server 2003 or 2008.

Can Vista support more than 1 GPU driver? I am running Vista Ult 64. Looking to upgrade to Windows 7.

I previously had an Nvidia 8800GT as my primary graphics card and also had an 8500GT installed as well on my dual boot XP/Vista PC. They worked fine and the computer recognized both correclty on both OS's I think I didn't have any trouble b/c as I found it all 8 series cards use the same driver.

I bought a new primary GPU, a ATi Sapphire 4870 1GB Toxic. I am NOT trying to run SLI or Crossfire, I need availability for 3+ monitors. Can I have two completely different video drivers? I was under the impression NO, but a computer parts guy said I can install an Nvidia & ATi driver as long as I do not install the supplemental software.

I would opt for using the old HDD as a USB external drive. Most "caddy" options do not work correctly in the Optical Drive Bay, there are quite a few threads that have extensive postings on problems with them.A USB hard drive external case is a cheaper option, one that will work with any USB enabled computer. This would allow for quick transport of files between computers and notebooks / tablets.Good luck.CB

Hi,
I was attempting to fix up some unnecessary registry when I accidentally deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/wow6432node (my pinky slipped onto the delete key). I tried researching this on my own, but everyone that did this seemed to have issues using programs after doing this; however, everything's working fine for me. I just restarted my computer and noticed that the folder has come back, only with a folder for Windows though (it used to have other ones).
So my question is:
Should I take any action on this, or just leave it be? I'm concerned as to what might happen, but the folder coming back on its own reassured me that the problem might actually take care of itself.
Any responses would be appreciated.
Cheers

*Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit.

A:Question on wow6432node for the Current User?

Hello ChachaSlide, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since everything seems to be fine, then I wouldn't worry about it to much. If you like, you could do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before you deleted it to undo the deletion.

Hope this helps,

I did a clean install of 64-bit Win 7 on my Sony Vaio a few months ago, which worked fine. However, there are a number of issues I've had with drivers/etc because it's the 64-bit version. I don't have those problems on another laptop that I installed the 32-bit version on. I know there are some work-arounds and/or other drivers/software that will sometimes work, but I just don't see the benefit of 64-bit for what I do and don't want to have to bother with making it work.

I want to do a new clean install of Win 7 on my Vaio, this time using the 32-bit disk. My question is: am I going to have a problem with registering this online since I've previously registered it in its 64-bit version? (I don't have any unused licenses available from my family 3-pack.) It's the exact same PC/CPU/etc...just changing the OS from 64-bit to 32-bit.

If it will be a problem because it's already registered, can you tell me how to change it/unregister the old one?
Thanx/Jerry

A:Installing 32-bit Win 7 on current 64-bit Win 7 Licensing Question

Hello Jerry,

As long as you have any previously installed version using that product key number uninstalled or deleted, then you will be able to use it on your Vaio. If it will not activate online normally, then you coud activate by phone instead.

Hi. Recently my dad accidentally fell victim to some Security Tools 2010 on our computer. I was about to follow a specified procedure to remove the infection when I got carried away and chose a System Restore point. It seems to have made the rogue anti-spyware go away (had the computer go back a few days). I then proceeded to scan the computer using Malware Bytes Anti Malware and it found nothing. Then used a double-check tool called rkill which also found nothing.

In Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP3.

Would it be safe to say I'm... safe?

A:Have a question about my computer's current safety

Well, there could still be traces (files) of it on your drive. You could do a simple search for it:1. Start > Search > For files and folders > All files and folders > "Security Tools"2. From the search results, select the application file, right-click and choose 'Open Containing Folder'.3. Now that you know the location of the "Security Tools" folder, navigate to it using "My Computer".4. Once you get to the folder, rename it to something else and then hit the DELETE key!(If the above doesn't work in the normal Windows mode, try the SAFE mode)I then proceeded to scan the computer using Malware Bytes Anti Malware and it found nothing. Then used a double-check tool called rkill which also found nothing.Do add SuperAntiSpyware to your arsenal. My 2 Cents.

I've had a HP 8160 desktop for almost 7 years. The 3,600 RPM hard drive is a Quantum Bigfoot CY6480 with 6.03 GB of space. The processor is an Intel Pentium w/MMX type with a speed of 233 MHz(overclocked to 262 MHz). There are 4 - 32 MB modules of EDO RAM(which is the maximum supported amount for the ASUS TX97-XV mobo). I upgraded it from Windows 95 OSR2 to Windows 98SE a few years ago. It has run okay over the years, but it has gotten very slow, given the increased load from all the apps that have become memory-hungry.

I'm looking into replacing my aging x121e with a newer model later in the the year, that x260 is looking nice, but i have some questions from owners of current models: -Have Lenovo fixed the failed hinge design of the x121e? My previous laptop (x100e) still has faultless hinges, but the x121e has failed hinges on both sides due to a very stupid design choice: They made quite heavy duty hinges but attached them on flimsy plastic standoffs which shattered after about 14 months. My x121e is now held together with lots of electrical tape as the hinge assemblies are entirely free-floating inside the case.-what is the fan noise like? The x100e/x121e have relatively noisy fans as laptops go, though i did limit that especially on the x121e with CPU undervolting and fan control software, enabling it to turn off the fan about 80% of the time under load. have they managed to use quieter fans lately?

This should be simple, but I cannot find details on whether or not this is possible.   What I want (end-state) is a P51 with the 256Gb SSD as the boot drive and the 500Gb spinning drive as the data drive. When I look at the ordering page, I can get both those drives, but there is no way to specify the SSD as the boot drive.  Alternatives are:1. Buy the P51 with just the 500Gb non-SSD, install something like a Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD myself, migrate/reinstall Win10 from the non-SSD to the SSD, and tell the BIOS that the SSD is now the boot drive.Pro - cheaper.Con - more effort and there's always hiccups finding the right drivers.Assumption - the P51 supports the Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD as a boot drive.2. Buy the P51 with just the 256Gb SSD (so it's automatically the boot drive), then buy another 2.5" SSD or non-SSD drive (and the associated caddy kit from Lenovo) and install that.Pro - no reinstall issues.Con - More expensive since I need to buy the larger data drive ($80-$100 and it's free in option 1), plus the Lenovo SSD is about $90 more than option 1. So, can I specify the SSD as the boot drive if I order the P51 with two drives, or do I have to go to alternative 1 or 2? If so, which one is generally recommended? Have I missed something critical? Thanks, ~rick

Hi guys, some quick questions about LAN IP configuration:

I have a DSL modem has an ethernet port, and a USB port, to allow for a second computer to connect to the internet. However, I have a netgear 4 port switch LAN/WLAN router, of which I connect one desktop computer to the ethernet port, my laptop using the WLAN, and one computer connected using USB (through modem, not router). Thus, the last computer has a different IP address (assigned by DSL company). My other two computers have IPs assigned by the router, thus, are able to share through Itunes...

...Which leads me to the question: is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa, as I want to allow my Itunes music to be accessible on all three computers. Thanks in advance, and happy thanksgiving.

p.s. I know you're wondering: but you have three more switches on the router, why not use it..well, this last one doesn't have LAN card.

A:ip configuration question

What you should of done is connect all the comptuers to the LAN ports on the router (except the laptop) and share internet connection that way. As far as iTune, you might need to open up the port in the firewall software on your router (check the manual for more details).

Q: "is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa?"
A: No

Network cards are very cheap now, you should use that. Much faster than USB.

I have about a dozen HP T5325's in my network.  We have recently put XenApp 7.5 in place.  I am unable to configure a connection on the 5325's.  When I choose Citrix ICA, it wants me to choose Server/Published App, the type of protocol, etc., and the connection won't work with those settings.  Choosing the XenApp connection, it's using the PNAgent, and that's not working either. I have an abundacne of HP T5565's/T510's, and those all work great with Firmware 4.4 or later.  I just choose Citrix, put in the URL, and go, and it works. I did go download the latest firmware for the 5325 and install that, but I already had that, so that didn't help. What I'm wondering is, is it possible to make the 5325's work?  If so, what do I need to download, or how does the connection need to be configured?

Can I add the following ram board to my existing [email protected] with CL2.5?
PC2700 @333mgz with CL3
I have checked with my computer manufacturer and they state that my system will accept 1GB.

A:Ram memory configuration question

If you're existing memory is clocked @ 266mhz than you may indeed be able to use the PC2700 333mhz memory but it will run at 266mhz. It really all depends on your motherboard.

I'm a Netscape user from before there was an IE and when Bill Gates was saying the internet was a fad that mass interest in it would pass.

I have used Netscape 7 for quite a while and downloaded version 8 today. I am trying to customize the tool-bars. I would like to move or re-move Google, Security Center, etc. on the navigation bar.

I would also like to remove the add-bookmark item from the personal tool-bar.

Does anyone know how to do this?

A:Netscape 8 Configuration Question

Alex,

It doesn't look like the Google search field can be removed.

To remove the Security Center and Bookmark items from the toolbar, go to View > Toolbars > Customize. Then drag the unwanted item from the toolbar to the customize window.

If I find a way to get rid of the Google search, I'll repost here.

Can McAfee Virusscan enterprise 8.7i schedule a scan without ePolicy Orchestrator?
I finally got it the way I want it except the virusscan console Full Scan and on-demand
scan properties have the schedule button grayed-out. I only see Administrator from the
Windows XP w/ sp3 login screen in safe mode and it has no password. I didn't get ePolicy
Orchestrator with my McAfee install and there is no Hub or Server here so I guess I am
the Administrator. I set up this machine and gave the user I set it up with administrator
privileges, This is XP Home so I have no users and groups button in my Manage MSC.
Am I out of luck, or will I just have to either get ePolicy Orchestrator or run on-demand
scans manually, when I am about to be away from the machine? Thx paj692

A:How to (McAfee configuration question)

I installed McAfee Enterprise 8.7i on my XP Pro (w/ SP3) and ran the setup using "Run
as" Administrator. I had to set up a password for the Administrator account so the
program would run, but with XP Pro, that is no problem. The schedule button is not greyed
out like it is on the XP Home (w/ sp3) system using the exact same installer. I did not
install it using "Run As" the Administrator Account. I'd like to, but the problem is this; I
can't run the installer from safe mode since the installer service is not running and I get
this error when trying to run in regular mode (Run As Administrator). Unable to log on:
Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank password (That's not
it!), logon hour restrictions, (probably not it) or policy restriction has been enforced. Any
body know a work around for this. It would be good to know how to run something in XP
Home as the Administrator without having to go into safe mode. paj692

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Linksys wireless router so that I can finally get wifi in my home. The computer I'm on now is going to "host" the router. I use verizon dsl, and a dsl modem. I correctly plugged the Linksys in all of it's intended ports, but Windows Vista doesn't pick it up. I "googled" around a good bit for the solution. I basically found out that the CD with the Linksys is useless, and I have to allow my modem to connect itself and the linksys at the same time manually (configuring). To do this, apparently, I have to get my gateway address (which would be 192.168.1.1), and type that into my web browser (being firefox). The Westell site comes up with my connection info. - I "log in" with "admin" "admin" as the user and pass. Now I have the administration to change my modem and connection settings, WHAT SHOULD I DO FROM HERE?

Thank you all very much,
FenderGuy2112

A:Linksys Configuration Question.

That would be unusual that your LinkSys disk is useless, because most will get you started in VISTA as well as WXP.
There are updates at the LinkSys site for each operating system. You will benefit from going to the LinkSys Support site, while knowing your model number and version number, then download and print the Quick Install Guide, the long User Guide in PDF format, and the latest drivers... which may be about 36 MB or more.
Then follow the instructions in the quick install or user guide after you install the latest driver... you are on the right track... you may want to talk to tech support of your high speed connection to see what they require, codes wise... as they vary from location to location.

Quick question. When I go into system configuration into the 'Startup' tab, it shows programs that are not on my computer anymore (at least I think). Is there anyway to get rid of these? I follow the file link and can't find them so I believe they are removed. Just wondering how to delete them from the Startup tab.

A:System Configuration question.

Open registry editor and browse to HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Curent Version>explorer>Run. Delete this Run key.

Method Three in OPTION TWO.

I was asked this question in class and I'm not sure if I gave the right answer or not.

Company with 50 (max) different locations.
1 Head Office and 1 Store House
Each location has a static IP address.
Each location has max 13 PCs in the internal network.

Locations need to be able to connect via VPN thus have the same Sub Net:
Im thinking (IP) Class B/ (SN) 255.255.255.128 giving me 126 IPs/SN to work with just in case all locations connect to one location at the same time.
Q1: is this SN a good choice?

For the internal network at each location:

Internet

Router
Public IP (Static)
Private IP 172.16.0.1 / SN 255.255.255.128

Firewall with 2 NIC
Router facing NIC IP 172.16.0.2/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.1
LAN facing NIC IP 172.16.0.10/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2
Hub/Switch
Data Server IP 172.16.10.1/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2
File Server IP 172.16.10.2/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2

Switch / Switches
PC1
PC2
PC3
Etc
IP adds 172.16.20.x/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2
Q2: Is this the right configuration? If not what should I change?
Q3: Recommended OS for Firewall, Server 1 and Server 2.
Q4:Recommended hardware for Routers/Switches

Appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

Okay, this might get a little long winded but I have a hypothetical set of questions to ask.

Background on specs..See image...

Disk 0 Simply storage.
Disk 1 Vista (C: Windows7 (F: Data/Storage (G:
Disk 2 (H: Usb Storage Drive.
Disk 3 (K: Usb Backups from Windows7/Vista image created from within windows7.

I just created a backup image of disk 1 which backs up the whole drive vista/windows7 and the storage partition, within the last hour.

Here comes the hypothetical part.

I would like to try installing MAC OS X on a partition I will create on disk 0 (say 25gig) leaving the rest of the drive as it is currently.

If I can manage to get the MAC OS installed onto the partition and it even works, that would be fine (worked in VMware).

The issue will be that I will mess the bootloader up as far as my windows drive goes which I will need to fix.

My question is this, since I just made a system image back up of the drive that holds all the windows partitions and the install of the MAC OS is not on the same drive can I simply boot the recovery disk and restore the images for my windows drive thinking it should also restore the bootloader for windows as it is currently?

Also, there is no problem restoring the image if stored on a usb hard drive right?

At that point I would expect to have the dual boot options I have presently, knowing I can't boot back into the MAC side yet.

However, If I download EasyBCD (or something better if someone has a suggestion) Open it, c... Read more

I have a small HD--3.2 GB-- (taken out of another computer) that I would like to add to my computer (Dell XPS-R400). This additional drive was taken directly out of another computer and still has data (and Windows 95) on it. Once I set the jumpers appropriately to reflect that this drive will be a slave drive, will it work without any sort of reformatting or setup software being run?

Hi all,
I need to add a third hdd to my K8N motherboard which current has an "E" backup drive in addition to my C drive. I've created a image of the current C drive with Acronis and what I would like to do is add the new hdd, restore the image to it, and then use what is now the current C drive as a backup, as well as the "current" backup drive for a total of three altogether.
What problems will I encounter when trying to boot to the new drive so I can restore the image, how do I set the jumpers on the current two drives, etc. ?
Thought I'd ask before I make a mess of things. Thanks for any info.
Btw they will all be IDE drives , not SATA.

Hello,
I have recently installed an internal card reader and started to notice
a slower boot time. After sitting next to my PC during POST I witnessed that it was
caused due to the BIOS going through each and every card slot (even when not occupied) and then it 'initializes' them.
It persists on doing this even after I removed them from the "Boot Sequence" list (they just keep getting added on back there by default).

My question is. Is there a way to skip all of the USB related tests and initialize them
once logging into OS?

(AMI BIOS, MSI MB, WIN7)

Thank you!

I'm sure my brain has the answer to this from when I got my network cert 10 years ago but I just can't seem to figure this one out.

When I cross connect the switches the link lights go crazy and I can't connect to the internet or the servers.

------------------------------------------------
My configuration is the following

2 Poweredge 440sc's

48 port patch panel

3 Netgear 24 port 100/1000 switches (Then do NOT have a dedicated uplink port)

A Dlink 4 port 10/100/1000 router.
-----------------------------------------------

Its wired like this (I'll try to keep it simple without pictures)

Switch 1

Servers, Phone System and 4 ports from the Patch Panel
1 Connection to the Router

Switch 2

22 connections to the patch panel
1 Interconnect to Switch 1
1 Connection to the Router

22 connections to the patch panel
1 Interconnect to Switch 1
1 Connection to the Router
So in the configuration, technically each switch is interconnected twice, once through the interconnects going from 2 and 3 back to 1 and then each switch's connection to the router.

When I take the Interconnects out or the simultaneous connections to the router (one or the other), everything works fine.

Why is this happening? I would think more interconnections the better.

Secondary question:

Given it does't work, which way would work better, the interconnections to Switch 1 with 1 wire going to the router from Switch 1 or all interconnecting at the router (It is a re... Read more

A:Multiple Switch Configuration Question

The reason the way you have it wired doesn't work is because you created the text book switch loop. Apparently your switches and router does not support spanning tree. Spanning tree allows multiple meshed links between switches without creating loops by determining best pathing to the root switch and putting the other links in blocking mode.
