I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Thoughts: Norton Systemworks 360 V5

I recently purchased a new computer that has Office 2010 installed. I would like to move the contents of my .pts file from my old computer which has Outlook 2007 to my new computer which has Outlook 2010. Before, when I wanted to transfer my .pts file from one computer to another I would just copy the file to a portable hard drive and then transfer the file to the other computer. However, Outlook 2010 is completely different animal. When I go to C:, Users, App Data, etc., new computer, it is completely different from my other computer that had Vista. My question is, how can I transfer my .pts file and/or my address book, calendar, contacts, etc. for my older Windows Vista computer that had Outlook 2007, to my new computer that has Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 installed? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

A:Solved: Moving Outlook Messages and Address Book From Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010

Hello referee07;

Copy your .pst file from your old computer to the new one or your portable hard drive.

To launch the Outlook 2010 Export/Import wizard, first go to File menu, navigate to Open, and click Import.

In the Import And Export wizard, select Import from another program or file option and hit Next

Under File Type, select Outlook Data File(.pst) and hit Next

Now choose the file to import, select the options, and hit Next

Once done, finally select the folder to import from(if you want to import complete data don’t change any settings) and make sure Include subfolders is checked. You can either import the file to the current folder or choose the folder.

Hope this helps!

I had a problem with Outlook emails hanging up in the outbox and then sending as many as 14 copies of the same message. I was unable to fix this Using the "Repair" function of the upgrade installation disk (created from the downloaded file). I removed Office completely and tried to reload; however, my disk got corrupted and Outlook is no longer available. Is there a way to recover Outlook without having to purchase it separately? I am using Office Professional Plus 2010 Home Use Program. The email that came with the original download from Digital River states to go to the "Account Management Console" to reload; however, this is on a hard copy and the original email with the link is no longer available. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Outlook 2010 missing from Office Professional Plus 2010

If you downloaded this from Digital River, then you may be able to download it again, contact them and ask.

If you can download the install file again and it works, burn yourself a CD of the downloaded install file.

Also write the keycode on the CD.

I have this very annoying problem and I'm really out of hopes. I don't know what to do anymore. I'll make a summary of the problem and will be as concise as possible

So I have this Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop with a broadband connection (direct cable, no router) and 3 weeks ago I reinstalled my Windows. Everything went well until 2 weeks ago when the internet speed went down, dial-up like. Pages won't load, and if they do they load just partially. I called my ISP and they said they had no problem. I couldn't find any solution so I thought maybe, some sort of virus or spyware is doing this so I formated the whole hard-disk and did a clean install of Windows.

Unfortunatelly nothing changed, the download speed is the same. Here is a speedtest.net evaluation:

Drivers are up to date, no windows firewall, no antivirus and no windows update. The ISP support guy told me to deactivate IPv4 and IPv6 from Local Area Connection, but nothing changed. I did a TCP/IP reset which raised my down speed to almost 1 Mb, but after a few minutes it went back to "dial-up". With the down speed being the same, Speedtest sometimes shows me upload speed in between 50-70 Mb which is unbelievable (I will make a ss next time I see this).

And the very weird thing is that I have another netbook (pretty weak config, Intel Atom CPU, 2 GB RAM) and with the same cable it has normal speed (the kind of speed I had on this Dell too). An... Read more

Hi guys. I hope you can help on this issue I've been having with my internet connection, I don't know what to do...

I resently formatted my harddrive because my internet all of a sudden started being very slow but after the format it's still the same issue. Now I've tried plugging the connection line into my laptop and there there's no problem.

I am gettin' a slower download than upload...

I have a 10mb download/1 upload speed LAN connection. I ran a speed test on the same connection and on my stationary it shows like 250 kbs download and like 750 kbs upload, while on my laptop it shows like 8 Mbs download and 750 kbs upload... so what's the problem?

So far I've found out that it has nothing to do with the internet connection line or my NIC (I tried a brand new one and it was the same issue), it's not spyware or malware, it's not fragmented and under internet connections it says that I'm connected on a 100 Mb network card and there are no problems with any of the devices?

However I can see that if I open the job list, the download connection is very unstable going from up to 750 kb for a breif moment then falls to a halt at 0 kb... and moreover it says that I'm not using any percent of the network?

I'm on windows 7 and haven't had any problems before this, the rest of the system works just fine, but not the internet. If I try and download something it won't get higher than like 50 kb and then may... Read more

A:outlook 2010 runs slow

Could you fill in the specs of your computer? You can use HWInfo32 from HWiNFO & HWiNFO32 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools and also get some basic information by going to the Control Panel and clicking on System.

As far as the freezing and shutting itself down, I'm assuming it's crashing. If so, does it give you a particular error before doing so or does an event occur before it crashes or does it just outright crash? Any more details you can provide would be quite useful.

I have set Gmail in Outlook 2010 and the set up went flawlessly. I have noticed that it takes way too long to check mail. Someone said to configure pop instead of imap and it would be faster. I found a tutorial on this and it did not work. Any one know how to help me with this? Thanks,

A:Outlook 2010 imap too slow

I just tested changing an IMAP Gmail account to use POP instead, following the instructions found on this site. Just choose your Outlook version from the list. Works flawlessly.

You have to enable POP, of course, from the Gmail settings: Open Gmail web interface, click Settings, and check POP is enabled.

Every time I click on an email my mouse pointer turns into a spinning circle and i have to wait. I use an exchange server. I have a new HP 32 bit laptop, running window 7 with 4 GB of RAM . I have tried repairing office and deleting and recreating my profile to know avail. My email is in cache mode. I read a post somewhere that I should try running in safe mode so I tried it by running "outlook.exe /safe" but I cant tell if I'm in safe mode. Does anybody know how to tell if I'm running in safe mode and is there anything detrimental in doing this. No body else in my office has this problem with the same office and OS. Can anyone help.

A:outlook exchange 2010 very slow

I could be wrong, making some assumptions...
Clean up your mail folders especially ones with large attachements. Exchange is really not a good place for document storage. Bloated exchange folders is your likely culprit if others aren't experiencing the same issue.

I wouldn't mess with safe mode as a fix for this.

Running windows 7 and Microsoft office 2010
For some reason when sending a larger group of emails my system has almost come to a halt. This was not the case a few weeks back. I run an ACT database and use a merge function to send a number of emails to a group. This may be in the 100-200 email with a size of 335KB. In the past in doing this I had no problem and could send this amount in about 5-10 minute. Now it is taking hours to do the same thing.

So far I have done this. Check with my ISP, nothing seems to be hanging up. There is no limit and how many mails can be sent at a time or day. Have cleaned up Outlook, ran a fix and repair. Dumped most all of the deleted files and then did a compress. Not sure what else to do. Looking for suggestions and recommendations. Gary

I just installed the Office 2010 suite and I am pretty happy with everything except outlook. I am simply using it to manage my gmail account and I am having very slow performance:

The Send/Recieve function almost never works due to the application freezing when it is trying to synchronize the inbox

Deleting each email takes forever due to it almost always freezing .

Even when I turn off the auto-preview it is painstakingly slow to click through emails and open them or delete them.

Any tips on fixing these problems? Settings I'm missing? Any similar experiences?

Thanks in advance !

Recently I've noticed Outlook has been taking a very long time to download my emails from the server, it's probably been happening for the past two weeks or so. I've had my new rig for a month or so and it was fine when I originally installed Office 2010, just as it was on my previous two rigs. Office 2010 is installed on my SSD with the OS, anti virus software and Adobe CS2, nothing else.
I haven't made any changes to the program either, it just seemed to go really slow by its own accord for some reason. I could probably upload 6GB or more worth of photos to, say, Photobucket quicker than downloading 700KB worth of emails in Outlook, yet my download speed in 60MB and my upload speed is 3MB. All other net based stuff is fine, very low pings (pings at anywhere around 9ms), no lost packets and a stable connecttion at all times.

This isn't end of the world stuff and I'm not overly concerned if it doesn't get sorted out. I haven't spent a lot of time looking into at all (probably less than it took me to type all of this out) but thought I'd ask you guys who know this stuff inside out if you had any ideas.

A:Outlook 2010 Slow Downloading Emails

In earlier versions of Outlook, when downloaded the mails, it only downloaded the message headers by default. But in Outlook 2010, By default, it downloads both the emails and the attachments for every folder. As the result, Outlook mailboxes larger than 1 GB may takes a long time to download their messages. This setting was changed in Outlook 2010 to allow the program to index all content and display information about the emails and attachments each contact has sent Follow these steps to change this setting to only download the message headers to speed up Outlook:
Run Outlook 2010.
Click the Send/Receive tab.
Click Send/Receive Groups and select Define Send.Receive Groups.
This will allow you to edit settings for send/receive groups.
Select All Accounts and click Edit.
Click the Download headers for subscribed folders option.
Click OK.
Click Close.

The search function using the search box on outlook is very slow or sometimes leading to no results. This is noticeable even after testing using a different PC setting up my email and having the same size of PST file. Searching takes more than 60 seconds where it should only be maximum 5. The image link will show you that the search options on the ribbon is greyed out.

As per the help, i should go to services.msc and confirm that the Windows Search service is running and automatic. And it is. Even tried stopping and starting again, and restarting the whole PC. So hopefully there is another solution.

Can't tell when this started but upon starting using this PC in my office i know its working fine.

Hy guys, my first post here,
I was wondering, is there any way to optimize start-up performance of Outlook on Windows 7? Ok, I've tested quite bit with it.
I'm dual booting Win7 and XP, on my notebook, HP6830s.
On first configuration, XP SP3, Outlook 2010, Kaspersky KAV 6.0, start-up time of my e-mail account is 10sec. I use IMAP protocol, and have e-mail server locally. Thats quite good.
On other hand, I have win7, Outlook 2010, Kaspersky KAV 6.0. Same account, same protocol, it takes about 50sec. Why is that?

I've downgraded it to 2007, on both hands, but the start-up times were same. The POP protocol seems fine. But I have to use IMAP protocol.

Why is this? Why Windows 7 is slowing down my Outlook start-up? Indexing? Add-ins? I've turned it off already, both of them, every add-in and indexing e-mails...

A:Windows 7/Outlook 2010/IMAP/slow start-up

I noticed that on my outlook 2010 also, IMAP took forever, I guess its broadband dependent. So I went back to POP, works quick. Never figured it out though!

Bought a new Windows 7 Home Premium notebook a few months ago. Bought microsoft Office Home & Business 2010, hoping that buying the newest stuff would save me lots of times on problems like this one....

Mail was fine for months, until about 2 weeks ago, sending messages from Outlook suddenly became very slow and faltering on my two IMAP / SMTP accounts.
Small messages got sent, messages of about 100K took many minutes and several attempts, and messages of a few MB never made it. Flakey errors, timeout errors, connection terminated, and so on. Result: I couldn't do my work anymore.

Tried working out solutions with my ISP and the mail hosters. Tried disabling virus and firewall. Tried changing settings. and so on. No improvement.

Then I noticed that sending large mails from my iPhone (using the same wifi network, ISP and mail settings) worked fine. Conclusion: it's in my PC.

Then I tried several times to follow advice telling me to look for hidden, faulty read receipts. I tried to find them with OutlookSpy and MDBVU software (as described in those tips) but found nothing.

After a long time searching and trying I found a tip somewhere to run SCANPST on the PST file of the accounts. Did that on both PST files for the two IMAP accounts. ScanPST told me for both PST files that there were only 'minor problems' and repairing them was 'optional'. Still I repaired the PST.
Result: problem gone!

Cost: several frustating days of not doing my work but trying to ... Read more

When using the colour-coded categories in Outlook 2010, it is possible to assign 2 or more categories to a single e-mail.
Is there a setting that controls this and can be changed?

If possible, I'd like each e-mail to only be able to hold one category and if a new category is selected the old one is removed.

I use these to organise my 'To be done' jobs that come in via e-mail, so I have categories like Priority 1 and Priority 2. When a job changes priority I don't want it to have both selected and then have to de-select the other one.

I am running MS outlook 2010 and from time to time it opens without the Home tab. I would guess 60% of the time. Restarting outlook sometimes resolves the issue and sometimes it does not.
Anyone else experiencing this or know the cause of it?

A:[SOLVED] Outlook 2010 Opens without Home tab

Do you have a ton of plugins running for Outlook? If you do, I'd recommend turning them off one at a time and seeing if the problem returns. If it stops after disabling one of them, you probably have your culprit to troubleshoot.

Hello everyone,

I have stumbled upon really freakish issue with Outlook 2010.
Here's scenario:
My users are being migrated from XP machines with Office 2003 onto Widows 7 with Office 2010.
One particular person had a quite large amount of contacts (over 500) on his mail account. This seem to be stored on Exchange Server as they travelled across to new machine without any local migration.
Now, the problem is following:
Each contact had a business phone number and business mailing address (not electronic mail!) among lots of other details Outlook allows you to put down. Each contact also had an option marked under "Addresses" panel - "This is the mailing adress"
where next to it was written down address of given person.
When user is creating an e-mail and selects a recipient from his local address book instead of corporate one he can see a list of suggestions according to his search criteria. On this list we've seen person display name and other details, however in E-mail column there was a phone number. Seems to be pulled from field Business Phone number". When such person is selected his e-mail address shows correctly but if someone on the other end doubleclick on such contact he is able to see phone number. This is a big issue while mailing couple of people at the same time.
I've managed to narrow down the problem to this single field "This is the mailing adress&... Read more

All you need to do is add your account to outlook. Comcast has a help page with the instructions. The instructions on the page I'm looking at are for outlook express but they should also work for outlook too. All of the information you need should be on the page.

All my VBA (Excel, Acess, Powerpoint, Word) works and pressing Alt-F11 opens the vba editor, except Outlook 2010
This was working before the upgrade, and the macros I have there too, but now when I click the buttons or try to open the VBA editor, nothing happens, no error message nada.
Any ideas?
I checked Trusted section and all that but still nada.
In the folders under Appdata, all the references are there but I cannot verify them because I cannot enter / access the VBA editor.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.

Very confused

I am running Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 on a standalone computer. I don't use email remotely or from any other device.
I'd just like to know if anyone could tell me where the correct location for *.pst files "should" be.

Background: After a problem with Outlook, I had considerable difficulty locating the 'right' *.pst files and then using Scanpst.exe to see if there were problems. I discover that my computer has 3 different Outlook.pst files, in separate locations.
It doesn't make sense to me to have the files in different locations, I'd prefer them to be in one place, and a location that Outlook will find when browsing. Or is that a silly idea?

1. My main Outlook.pst file is:
The problem with that is that Scanpst.exe does not recognise that as a valid location when you browse to select the file to scan; it simply doesn't bring up the AppData folder; I eventually managed to do it but only by typing in the exact file path

2. I had the archive folder (Archive2.pst. ) in the same folder. The problem there is that again, Outlook won't find it by browsing. I had to type in the full pathname again to open it.

3. When I ask Outlook to open another *.pst file, it offered me this file (which is a separate email account and a different location) :
C:\Users\Jane\Documents\Outlook Files\[email protected]"

This isn't urgent, now Outlook is cooperating again, but if any... Read more

Recently we starting migrating from Outlook 2003 to 2010 and emails came over fine but only about 10% of the contacts. I copied the PST file from the old pc to the new one and put it in the proper location. I have been on numerous site including Microsoft's but none of the answers worked. I also tried doing the File, Export Contacts to an Excel spreadsheet, to try bringing them over manually, but it only exports the same ones that I already have in Outlook 2010.

In Outlook 2003, when I open a new email and put the cursor in the "To" field, and type the letter (e.g. A, B) all of those contacts beginning with A, B, etc. show up so I know they are still there. There are probably 300+ contacts in there but only 40 came over to Outlook 2010. The configuration is:

Old pc: Windows XP Pro SP3 running Outlook 2003
New pc: Windows 7 Pro SP1 running Outlook 2010

I am sure someone has seen this before and would really appreciate any help. Thank you,

heyya, and welcome to TSG.

Give the following a shot and let us know how that comes out......

To import .nk2 files into Outlook 2010, follow these steps:

1. Make sure that the .nk2 file is in the following folder:

Note The .nk2 file must have the same name as your current Outlook 2010 profile. By default, the profile name is “Outlook.” To check the profile name, follow these steps:

a. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
b. Double-click Mail.
c. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.

2. Click Start, and then click Run.

3. In the Open box, type outlook.exe /importnk2, and then click OK. This should import the .nk2 file into the Outlook 2010 profile.

I thought I was making progress in changing over my email from an old laptop to a new Windows 7 laptop. However, I've got it all set up and it shows it is sending and receiving emails, but nothing shows up. Where are they? I've got the email account set up identical to the older laptop so that's not the problem. I've checked on the Microsoft Answers website and that is just a BIG joke!!!! Maybe I should just go back to my old laptop? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hello all:

Made the mistake of trying to send a huge email through Outlook... now it is stuck and can't find a way to get rid of it. Seems to be sucking up memory and besides that it is irritating.

I'm using an Earthlink email address. My internet service is a local one and offers 4G.

What do you suggest?

A:Solved: Outlook 2010 - email stuck

if the item is stuck in your outbox, you may not be able to delete it until you set Outlook to work Offline (Send / Receive then Work Offline from the Ribbon). Note: This may not be instantaneous - you may need to let it sit in Offline for a while before you can go to your Outbox and delete the stuck mail.

Had been working fine but now hyperlinks and thumbnails etc in emails won't open in Outlook.
There is a change of colour when I click but that's it. Repeated clicking is no help.
Right clicking only provides menu choice of copy not open etc
No new programs or add-ons added for at least 3 weeks - this just happened yesterday
Can find no obvious conflicts. Have rebooted x 4 times to no effect.
Have searched on net to find solution but nothing that I found has helped
Hyper links outside of Outlook work fine and Outlook otherwise works fine too, but I get a lot of mail with hyperlinks and thumbnails and it has cut me off from all of them
Grateful for any advice
