Q: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool Internet Security Now Windows USB/DVD Download Tool

A large number of PC users today use USB drives to install Windows operating system thanks to dirt cheap USB drives and plenty of free tools out there for creating bootable USB drives.

Back in Windows XP and Vista days, most users were not even aware of the fact that it?s possible to install Windows operating system from USB drives. The method became popular with the release of Windows 7 Beta in January 2009. Plenty of free utilities have been released since than with variety of options to help users create bootable USB to install Windows operating system from USB drive.

After the release of Windows 7 RTM in October 2009, Microsoft also released its official Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool to help users easily make USB drives bootable and then install Windows from the bootable USB drive.
Windows USB/DVD Download Tool
The official Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool is one of the largely used tools to prepare bootable USB of Windows operating system. Although it has not received any major updates since its initial release, Microsoft has quietly renamed the program page as Windows USB/DVD Download Tool in the last few months.

As you likely know, a couple of months ago, the official page of Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool used the title Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool but the title of the page is now Windows USB/DVD Download Tool. The content on the page even refers to the software as Windows USB/DVD Download Tool. Going by last edited information on CodePlex, it looks like the tool was renamed in last November.

Microsoft could have done this to stop confusing Windows 8 and Windows 10 users as the program is compatible with all recent versions of Windows operating system including Windows 8 and Windows 10, or Microsoft might be planning to release a newer version of the software in the near future.

Interestingly, contrary to what the page title and file name of the installer says, you?ll see Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool as the title on the installer as well as the program. It looks like the folks at Microsoft are too busy with the development of Windows 10!

Now that Windows 10 Preview is released, it?s high time that Microsoft needs to update the tool as the program often gives ?The selected file is not a valid ISO file? and ?We were unable to copy your files. Please check your USB device and the selected ISO file? errors.

If you?re preparing bootable USB to install Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, we recommend you use the popular Rufus tool instead. The tool is robust and supports UEFI computers as well.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So anyone used this tool? I have an ISO file that I purchased/downloaded from Digital River and I am trying to make a bootable USB drive. I have a brand new 16GB drive that I am trying to use so it has PLENTY of space on it. Anyway, I go to run to tool and it gets to the part where it says formatting and then it says something like "we are unable to copy your files, check the USB drive and the ISO and try again."

Anyone run in to that issue? I tried to google it but can't seem to find an easy fix. Any thoughts?

Windows ISO Downloader is a free program for Windows that allows you to download Windows operating system ISO images from Microsoft servers.

Downloading an ISO image of the operating system that is already installed on devices you are working with is always a good idea in case you need to reinstall the operating system or repair it.

The only thing I can see that might be it is in Device Manager it shows up as a CD-ROM. Yet the drive functions and burns fine. I just upgraded to latest firmware. Drive is Asus DRW-1814BLT.

Thanks.

Hi, I'm having trouble with Microsoft's Windows 7 DVD/USB Download Tool (the revised version). I tried running it on a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM install, with the 32 bit ISO of Windows 7 Ultimate RTM which I got from my Technet subscription, but I got an error saying "we were unable to copy your files". I was using an 8 GB LaCie USB flash drive. I then tried to use it at work on an XP Pro SP3 x86 install, with a 64 bit ISO of the last release candidate of Windows 7 that was available (didn't feel like re-downloading the RTM ISO, so I used what we had lying around to test), and I got the same error. The USB drive was formatted by the tool as NTFS correctly, then the error appeared. Anyone have any idea what may have been going on? Thanks!

What is your USB drive or drives? How big is the .iso file? A FAT32-formatted drive has a single-file size limit of 1 Byte less than 4GB, otherwise it needs to be NTFS-formatted. Simply copying an .iso file shouldn't present a problem but working with that file such as burning a CD or DVD from it requires a program that can do it. An .iso file is used to create an exact copyof the original disc when that disc is not available but there are methods of doing things with the file to a USB Thumb/Flash drive.

Hey,

I downloaded a Windows 7 (x64) ISO file with my MSDNAA license.
I want to create a bootable Windows 7 on my USB flash drive to install it on my new laptop.
However, after I selected the ISO file and click on the "Next" button I got an error message: "Invalid ISO file - The selected ISO file is not a valid ISO file. Please select a valid ISO file and try again."

If I extract the ISO file with 7-Zip, it creates a readme.txt containing following text:
"This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."
It also creates a folder called [BOOT] with a "Bootable_NoEmulation.img" file.

Can anybody help me or at least explain me why I'm not able to create a "Windows 7"-USB flash drive?

If this information is useful: Windows 7 x86 is running on my computer.

Thanks a lot,

Daniel

No worries, it is easy enough to create a USB installation key.

I use method 2, because it is the fastest.

You will need to mount the ISO using a third-party program such as MagicDisc, then drag-n-drop the files to your prepared USB drive.

Hi, I'm trying to get a Windows 7 Starter ISO and on the Dell page here, it tells me I have to modify a Selected Win7 ISO that they already provide.

So I download one of the ISO's (Home Premium 32-bit, because it's on a 32-bit OS). Once the ISO has finished downloading I follow the steps Dell gives me, on how to make the ISO a Win7 Start ISO.

I open the ISO with an Archiver and unpack the ISO. Then I navigate to the "Source" folder and open up the file "ei.cfg" in note pad and change Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate to Starter. Once that is done, Dell doesn't tell you how to put it back in a ISO.

So I Googled how to make an ISO. Basically from my understanding, you just put all the folders you extracted from the ISO, back into a RAR file. Once they're all back in a RAR file, you install a Image burning software (mine is PowerISO) and then make the RAR file into a ISO Image. With PowerISO, all I have to do is: right-click my RAR file and navigate to PowerISO and then click "Add image to file". Once you have done that, PowerISO asks you what kind of image? ISO, bin, or daa? I choose ISO. PowerISO then makes my ISO File.

After that is done, I try to use it in Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and it says it's an invaild ISO file. Why is that?

I just bought a ThinkPad P71 with Windows 10 Pro installed. The original install went perfectly, but now I have discovered that the Windows Product Key is embedded in the Bios. I don?t find this to be a problem unless I can?t do Clean Installs. In my research on the Lenovo Support Website in the ?How Tos & Solution? section, there is an entry called ?Windows Product Key FAQ? that states (When answering a Windows Key question): ?It is embedded in the BIOS, and not on the Windows stickers under the laptop. For a re-installation of the same version of Windows 8/8.1/10 as your system originally shipped with, you will not be required to know the key. Windows 8/8.1/10 will use the key embedded in the BIOS. For this reason you cannot use a download ISO of Windows or other version as they cannot use the bios code.? Does the above Underlined actually mean that I cannot do a Clean Install from a Download or am I understanding this wrong. It doesn?t make any sense as I?ve seen many comments from people that state otherwise. Thanks so much.Brian7193

Dear all

Because of an issue with my laptop, I decided to reinstall Windows 7 home premium 64-bit. To that end, I borrowed a Kingston datatraveler 4GB usb flash drive from a friend to try and make a bootable flash drive.

After downloading the prerequisite ISO image and installing the windows 7 usb/dvd download tool, I proceeded to run the program. However, at around 6% the copying fails. As a result of this there is around 256 mb of files left on my usb. I then tried to use the diskpart utility in the CMD to clean the drive. However for some reason the usb drive is now write protected, and every subsequent attempt to format it to its original state has failed. I also cannot move files into the usb. Attached below is a screenshot of the files in the usb drive

So my question is, what has the windows 7 usb download tool done to the usb flash drive to make it read only? And how can I undo what it has done so I can format it and return it back to my friend?

Microsoft has already announced a new solution that would allow users to clean-install Windows 10 should they want to start from scratch, and it appears that this tool is already available for download.

The company hasn?t said anything about it, but the download link (note that this is the direct download link!) was spotted by Twitter user @h0x0d and by the looks of it, Microsoft has no intention to remove it anytime soon. What?s very important to note, however, is that this program only works with Redstone builds, so if you want to use it on a computer running the stable version of Windows 10, it won?t launch.

The so-called ?Refresh Windows Tool? was designed like a wizard, so it guides you through the entire process of refreshing the operating system.

It works exactly like the built-in Windows Refresh feature and lets you keep personal files, so your settings and apps will be deleted, but files will be kept, or to remove everything, including files, settings, and apps.

Feedback needed
For the moment, it?s not yet clear what Microsoft?s plans with this new utility actually are given the fact that it?s very similar to the built-in Windows Refresh option, but the company said that it wants to provide users with an easy solution to clean-install the operating system.

I occasionally get random force shutdown when using Windows 10 (en-gb x86). Now I encounter a program that makes force shutdown every times I using it. It is Media Creation Tool used to to download an iso image of Windows 10.

To be sure that it is not fault of RAM memory I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and no errors was found.

Please give a hand,

menteith

Are the files the same when using the Media Creation tool immediate upgrade vs waiting for the Windows download notification? I am upgrading from Windows 7 Pro . Tks

A:Upgrade using media creation tool vs Windows Download notification

Yes, they are the same.

Some said there is less problematic using the MCT to install than using Windows Update.

I used both methods, one to each laptop. To me, there is no issue on either install.

I prefer to use MCT instead of WU because I have no patience to wait for my turn to install.

By the way, there are 2 sources to download and install Windows 10.

Guys - can someone please help me!!!!===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it ... Hi All,

My PC ha been completely hijacked by some "Windows XP tool" which I think was a drive-by download. I am using Windows XP.

When PC boots up this program comes up right away and starts checking the PC for errors and things like that. I can not click on or download or uninstall anything.

1.If I click 'activate' web browser goes directly to this tool's website and I can't navigate to any other site.
2.The all program button has been disabled.
3.F8 safe mode does not prevent this program from running, it runs anyways.
4.Can not do a systems restore either (F10).
5.Task manager is disabled so I can't end task.

I think I need a bootable CD to remove this issue. Any free solutions out there? Any and all suggestions are most welcomed.

My computer has almost become unusable, very sick. I want to do a clean Win 7 install; took out the Win 7 64 operating disks I've had for several years. CD drive also very sick, broken. Searches reveal ways to install without a CD ? downloaded Windows 7 USB Download Tool. Have no idea how to choose an ISO (see attached); this process is complex.
Thought I was a fairly advanced user but feel as though I'm an imbecilic beginner. Thanks in advance for your help. ec

A:Win 7 USB Download Tool

The 1st thing you have to do is download the iso file to your computer.

You choose the iso file of the version you need, in your case Windows 7 Pro Service Pack 1 either 32 or 64 bit, look in Computer>Properties it will tell you what bit version you`re running.

64 bit http://software-download.microsoft.c...bc83c30b5aba1a

32 bit http://software-download.microsoft.c...cd80a8f8cc1197

These 2 links should work to download the iso file.

Any questions just ask

I just tried to download the DDS Tool to create a log, as directed by the Preperation Guide. Instead of the icon as shown in the guide I got an AutoCAD icon with dds.scr below it. When I click on it to run it, instead of the black window with the nice text in it I got a white window with giberish in it. A lot of giberish. No DDS.txt nor Attach.txt files were created. What did I do wrong.Thanksbilhal

For the last two months I have been having to reinstall the same win updates over & over?-
Now its the Windows Malicious Software Removal tool that keeps coming up, and as soon as I install it
the updt icon immediately pops up saying updates are ready for your computer (over & over)?

I tried to download the Win7 32-bit SURT tool from your forum link, but it says it's Not available?

A:Can't download SURT tool to fix...?

The most likely reason for the MSRT to repeat is that it crashed at some point.
The most likely reason for that, is that the machine is infected.
Try this link for the CheckSUR tool...

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821) [October 2014] from Official Microsoft Download Center

(direct link - 32-bit Windows 7CheckSUR)

Also...

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM Premium' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Quarantine everything it finds

When I download the above link (a step in the malware removal prep process) and then RUN it, the RUN result is a notepad product that looks like it was written in Martian.

As a note, the DDS File Type is AutoCad Script, which is not what the sample instructions show.

I have tried this on 2 computers with the same result.

What is the deal?

Is this 32 or 64 bit?Try this:Please download RSIT by random/random and save it to your Desktop.Note: You will need to run this tool while connected to the Internet so it can download HijackThis if it is not located on your system. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding Rist attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.Close all applications and windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.Double-click on RSIT.exe to start the program. If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator.Click Continue after reading the disclaimer screen.Leave the drop down box set to default: "List/folders created or modified in the last 1 month (30 days). When the scan is complete, a text file named log.txt will automatically open in Notepad.Save the log file to your desktop and copy/paste the contents into a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here.Important: Be sure to mention that you tried to follow the Prep Guide but were unable to get DDS to run.If RSIT did not work, then reply back here.

I actually saw this website listed while looking around another one called PC World Community trying to figure out what is wrong with mine. Anyway, they left this website address: http://forums.techguy.org/regi/54s ecurity but I can't seem to find it. It is supposed to lead me to a free download of PCTools Registry Mechanic which I was hoping might help me with some of my problems. I continuously get a windows System Doctor that tells me I have registry problems on a regular basis 3-4 times a day and I am always having to fix or ignore them and I don't know if I have done more harm than good. The above PC Tools was strongly suggested and said to be free and thought it would more useful than what I have been doing. I have WIndows XP SP2 (2003) If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I have been scrolling along the pages looking for the number 54 but thought this might be easier. Thank you in advance. Virginia.

Will someone give me link for download of microsoft snipping tool for vista?
My problem is download info. I can find a lot of info on Snipping tool but how do I download ?

A:How to download Snippng Tool?

Unless you have Vista Home Basic, it will be included with the Operating System. That means you don't have to download it, it should already be in Start > All Programs > Accessories. If it isn't there you may have to activate it.
Go to Control Panel
Open Program and Features (you may have to click Programs first)
In the task pane on the left, click Turn Windows features on or off.
Give the necessary permission to UAC
Check Tablet PC Optional Components.
Click OK.
Wait for it to do it's configuration.

If you DO have Vista Home Basic, you can't use the Snipping tool as it isn't distributed separately from Windows. You'd have to use the old fashioned way: screenshots and a graphics editor.
