I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey,

Before continuing, this is a thread that I currently have going, if you want extra details on what's been going on. I'll try to explain it quickly here:

My laptop won't connect to wireless Internet. Doesn't matter where I am, so it's not a router problem.
I've tried many things (can be seen on the other thread), and still can't get wireless Internet connection.

Before I go any further, I'm not great with computers, so any instructions, please, eaassyyy!

Now the weird thing is, when I'm in Safe Mode with networking, Internet seems to be working fine!
As you can see in the title, my Ping test is showing something is wrong.

I have no idea what to do here. I've been going through forums, tried the following:

- Changing wireless channel
- TCP/IP stack repair options
- Calling Dell (what a joke that was...)
- ran an ipconfig /all (see on the other thread through my forum link)
- removed Mcafee (using Windows Essentials), and when I did that, Internet worked for 5-10mins then crashed again.
- checked the Mac filtering settings on my router settings

Also, my computer crashed the other day (got a blue screen, shut itself down). I posted the details in the thread.

Finally, my great friend the moderator Etaf asked me to post this to see if I have a problem that this forum could help me with ... I read the 1st post, here is the mentioned information (I couldn't do #3 because I run on 64-bit):

Hi.
I have Windows 7 on an ASUS computer.
I recently got a new router, and from then on I had this problem. I'm not sure if it's the router's fault or it was a coincidence that I started having this problem art that time.

I have full Internet Connectivity but No Internet Access/ Limited Access for Wireless Network Connection. I am on the internet right now with a cable so the Local Area Connection works fine.

I troubleshoot and get "DHCP is not Enabled" or "Default Gateway is not Available," or sometimes both. Other times it says it can't detect a problem but there's obviously one! But mostly the problem is the Default Gateway not being available and me not knowing how to fix it.

I go to CMD and run ipconfig/all, and DHCP is always enabled for Wireless so I'm not sure what the problem is for that.
DHCP and the Default Gateway both have the same number too.

I've tried changing my router's IP and Default Gateway numbers and inputting them in Adapter Properties ->Internet Protocol Version 4 TCP/IPv4 Properties but it does not work.

There was one time it did however! On that day, I had left the router unplugged the whole night the day before. I entered the IPv4 and two tries later, it worked! For about four days, the wireless connection was fine. Then it suddenly returned to Limited Access.

I've tried the same thing many times again but have not had the same luck.

Then I tried this into the Administr... Read more

Hi I have a win 7 netbook that I recently got and for some reason it suddenly cannot keep a connection to the internet. It used to keep a connection before but now I keep getting the error the default gateway is not available about every ten minutes while connected which of course is very frustrating.

I've tried updating all associated drivers but apparently that hasn't changed anything. I've tried restarting the computer and tried different connections. I know its nothing to do with the internet connection I'm trying to connect to as other devices are able to keep a connection with no issue. Any suggestions for things I can try or any questions?

A:Cannot hold a wireless internet connection (default gateway not available)

and welcome to the Forum

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

I've browsed through other threads, but only lightly, so sorry if I've missed a solution to this problem in one of them.

The back round story is my DSL/internet was working fine for the past few days, then suddenly today it ceased all connectivity. This seems to happen each time I reinstall an OS for who knows why. I searched around the net, trying to find my routers IP address to set it up, as I remember this working in the past. (My mother calls tech support, not me, I only overheard it, otherwise it would've solidified in my memory.)

I tried typing in the two IPs shown, but to no avail, so I'm assuming the default gateway is the one I need to access my router. In other threads, the posters are generally asked to run cmd > ipconfig /all, so I took the liberty of doing so now.

Oh. And I'm posting from a laptop, the PC internet doesn't work. The wireless works fine, which only verifies the internets connectivity. I'll try to not make any typing errors copying this.

For the past few weeks I've been having this problem, the internet works fine and suddenly stops opening pages and disconnects me from any game I'm playing but it still says that it's connected.

This happens maybe 10 times a day and when it does happen, I run the 'Diagnose' on LAN adapter and it always finds the problem in default gateway ''Default Gateway Not Available'' and it says 'Fixed' but it happens again all the time.

I tried setting up static IP address, updating network drivers, running the program called '6to4remover' and some other things that I found on this site and none of them helped, the problem still persists.

I also called my ISP and they said that everything is alright at their end and that the connection is working as intended.

Here's the ipconfig/all if it helps.

anyone know about this product? 3Com HomeConnect Home Wireless Gateway.

It's been working ever since I got it (it used to be used at my old workplace, and my friend gave it to me 6 months ago).

it has NAT, etc.

setup:
Router with NAT, DHCP, and Firewall turned ON.
Wireless hookups: win98SE machine
Wired hookups: this WinXPH machine with regular RJ45 cable
Crossover cable from cable modem to WAN port
Cable provider: Cox Communications

about 5 hours ago, it was working..i was just working on my site.

i turn off my computer, go take a nap ... then come back, and all of a sudden, internet doesnt work. my cable modem lights are on like normal. but my router says internet is not connected ... i can still browse my home network though ....

but i release all IPs. turn off computer, router, and cable modem. for test, since my cable lights are working fine, i plug my cable modem directly to my computer, turn on computer.

it finds the IP address fine, and my internet WORKS!!!!!!

i turn everything back off, plug cable to router like it was before, turn computer back on, and it DOESNT work!!

so the problem has to be with my router. but i do everything, redo all settings, perform system checks, restore factory settings, etc etc .... still doesnt work!!

i called the cable company, and they say to go check with the router manufacturer company. he tried helping me diagnos things a little bit even though i know he wasnt supposed to since they dont support anything with routers... Read more

Hey all,

I have a wireless usb belkin adapter and am trying to connect it to a netgear router.

1) I get an address via DHCP
2) I can ping the router

but:

1) Cannot access the web interface of the router or any other site, cannot ping google etc
2) No default gateway is given to my card.
What I have tried so far:

1) Its not a router issue as this seems to occur on other wireless networks. And the machine I am using at the moment is wirelessly connected to the router.
2) I have tried to manually enter an address (gave a exception to the router for the IP) and also gave it the DNS and gateway address - no luck.
3) Turned of all firewall and AV.
4) Everything is up to date.
5) This wireless card was working fine on thursday on a different network, a belkin - belkin network, but one of the networks i have tried since then is a Belkin based network.
Im lost on this one! Must be missing something but im not sure what.

Installed the latest drivers from Intel (Didn't fix it)
Installed the drivers that came with my laptop for windows 8 (Didn't fix it)
Disabled the Power Management setting to turn of the adapter
Changed my DNS (Because i was also getting the 'Default Getaway' problem (Didn't fix it)

I'm starting to think that this is a problem on the Hardware Level?

I could try to go back to Windows 7, but i'm afraid i'll have the same problem...

Well you could always try installing the driver from the Device manager.

1. Download the zip drivers from the link:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/conf...&Dwnldid=23231
2. Extract the files.
3. Find the "data" folder and extract "Drvl1".
4. Uninstall the previous driver.
5. Install from the device manager, directing the path to the extracted "data" folder.

When you installed the driver for your Netgear wireless adapter, did you download the latest driver from the Netgear's site?

Please provide an ipconfig /all for review.

Hi all,

I'm having a problem which has got even my ISP stumped!

Basically, I'm using a broadband modem, which appears to be connecting fine, with all the required lights being on. My ISP says that, from their end, everything is perfect. Even my laptop shows Local Area Network as connected.

However, for some reason, I am not able to access the internet. I was able to use it till last evening, but suddenly the internet stopped working. On Google Chrome, it says that there is no DNS or something.

Subsequently, when I tried to access my modem settings, it shows as 'webpage not available'. I then noticed that there is no default gateway! I was able to access it the day before, but now I can't.

A tech guy from my ISP had set the IP address and DNS manually (just mentioning this, in case it may help).

Can anyone please help in this regard? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If additional information is required, I can provide it.

Thanks a ton in advance!

Hello everyone!

Not so long ago, my girlfriend had a power outage and after that, her net never returned.
I've been looking to find the cause of the problem, thinking it was only Comcast network that had died for a little moment.
The internet was lost yesterday around midnight. It gives no Wifi Signal, nor ethernet, so I am guessing it is not only a computer problem.

So I checked around the internet to find what could be the problem. Since I cannot be there physically to check it out myself, I had to monitor her. Suposely unplugging, waiting 30 seconds, and replugging the power into the modem did not do anything. The lights are on, and seem fine.
Plugging the modem straight into the computer also dosen,t work.

On the computer itself, there is no default gateway, and when she tries to type ipconfig /reset, it gives an error message: "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket."
So I was thinking maybe it could of been a Winsock error?

I'm rather confused of what to do right now to solve the problem.
Thank you very much for your consideration and future help!

A:No default gateway nor internet

Is the following summary of my interpretation correct?

She has Comcast internet service, a modem and router or a modem/router combo, and no more than one device (a computer) with ethernet or Wi-Fi capability.

When connecting an ethernet cable between modem (or modem/router?) and computer does the ethernet LED light on the modem? On the computer?

In Device Manager under Network Adapters does the ethernet appear as "OK"? Same question for the wireless.

It would probably speed trouble shooting considerably if another device could be used to check the router's ethernet and/or Wi-Fi or if the computer could be tested on another network.

I have a brand new laptop built from Digital Storm but their tech support has been lacking. The laptop is absolutely fine, except I cannot connect to wireless networks anywhere. I'll keep connected for 10-15 minutes and then lose connection. If I troubleshoot the problem, it'll eventually repair itself with the message "Default gateway not available". Afterwards, the net will work again for a variable amount of time before I have to do it again.
The drivers should be the newest, I updated them at the behest of Digital Storm but it didn't fix the issue. Their next suggestion was to replace the network card but I want to see if there is another solution before I start having to open it up and replace components(Which I really don't want to do.)
I am not sure what information will be needed to assist but I'll include my Dxdiag and my ipconfig /all to start.

Hello,

At first, thanks for the input to help me. Friday i was updating/installing test server from World of Tanks. During the download of the test server (file of 7.5GB) i got twice a BSOD telling me the driver of the network caused the problem.

Of course, i was a bit surprised, though did have 2 BSOd's in past. One in april and one in may. The last fresh installation with keeping one partition is from february 2014 (along the olympic games). I have tried googling since the problem started and came further and further to most likely causes of the problem. Later on, friday evening, i did have a great connection between the modem and my laptop. After about 1,5 hour the problem appeared again. Saturday/Sunday seemed like the problem was only appearing for 2 minutes an hour with in meantime some 2-3 sec lagg a couple times.

In home there is a modem and a router, both providing a wifi-point. the one of the modem keeps disappearing, and sometimes the one of router as well. Since today i cannot even access the modem wifi anymore after using the troubleshooter. It is not visible all the time in my available wifi-connections and

BSOD:
- April, 1 was either the realtek audio driver or the network driver. Audio driver is updated after BSOD.
- May, 1 was either the realtek audio driver or the network driver.
- June, 2 times the network driver.
I found out what the problems exactly were, using WhoCrashed.

Of course, i was a bit surprised, though did have 2 BSOd's in past. One in april and one in may.

- May, 1 was either the realtek audio driver or the network driver.
- June, 2 times the network driver.
I found out what the problems exactly were, using WhoCrashed.

Hello, I am having a somewhat bizarre, extremely frustrating issue. I can connect to the internet via wireless just fine, and everything will be hunky-dory for a while. After a while, however (this varies anywhere from a day to a week), there will be a small hiccup on the connection, and then something fails in the Acquiring Network Address stage. My computers will get an IP, but they will not get the default gateway or DNS server.

I say computers because this happens on both my PC and laptop. This issue does NOT, however, occur for anyone else in the household.

I have tried a plethora of fixes, from simple computer reboots to fiddling with all sorts of settings, and nothing works to reestablish the connection. My father has also tried fixing it, to no avail. I have to go and reset my router, which also interrupts TV service, because it is through AT&T U-Verse. Needless to say, this does not make other people in the household very happy, and I really shouldn't have to be resetting my router every couple of days like that.

My PC uses a Netgear WG111v3 adapter and is Windows XP. My laptop has on-board Wifi and is Windows XP Professional. I am not sure why I am the only person in the household that experiences this issue. Could certain programs like AIM be causing problems?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

A:internet keeps getting lost. Default gateway is not available

Try power cycling your equipment first. Unplug both the router and modem for about a minute or so; then reconnect the modem first and let that boot; then do the router and let that boot. Doing this should hopefully refresh all your connections. If that does not do anything; check for firmware updates for your router and possibly the modem as well. Try these things and report back if it doesnt do anything.

Ever since I moved (about 4 days ago) the internet in my PC keeps going down every 5- 30 minutes. When the internet isn't down, it tends to be super slow. This only happens on this PC, not on my iPad mini (it works perfectly fine). When I check the Network and Sharing center the detector detects a problem "the default gateway is not available", but it solves it right away. But then the internet goes down again every 5 or 30 minutes, it's annoying ;'(

Hello,

I recently built a computer, and all was going well up until today. I turned my computer off last night, to give it a little rest, and I turned it on today and it flashed a BSOD for about half a second, crashed, rebooted, and did the same thing. It went into repair mode, told me it couldn't fix the problem, and shut down. I started it back up, it loaded normally, but I now have no internet connection.

I am hardlined in, but it doesn't recognize any connection. My laptop is working fine, along with all the rest of the computers on the network. In my digging around, I found that I have an IP, but no Default Gateway. This, I recognize, is a problem. So I am wondering what, if anything, can be done?
I am running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.

Computer Specs:
Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 with onboard LAN card (Realtek 8111e I think)
Intel i7-870
EVGA GTX-460

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

try the following pings

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

I have read a interview question which is mentioned below.

Can a workstation computer be configured to browse the Internet and yet NOT have a default gateway?

My answers : Dial-up internet connection does not requires the configuration of default gateway. The default gateway is present in the ISP itself. However, the default gateway has to be configured to connect to Internet using a broadband connection.

Do my answer correct?Have I understood the question correctly?

Thank you for your time.

A:connecting to internet without default gateway?

Well, PPP connections or PPPoE will not have a Default Gateway, since they're point-to-point connections. Broadband connections that are dynamic IP addressing will require a Default Gateway to connect.

Hello

I have a Toshiba (Windows 7) laptop with a Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E network card.

Lately I have returned home after travelling for a few months only to find that whenever I'm in my bedroom, my Internet will disconnect for no reason and whenever I troubleshoot problems it fixes itself and says the error was "Default Gateway was not found" Only to happen again 30 seconds later!

Sometimes it is fine for almost an hour and sometimes it disconnects 10 times in 5 minutes!

This hasn't happened anywhere else (and I travelled all around the US/Canada using various WI-FI connections) and it only happens in my bedroom! If I walk into the next room it works perfectly without disconnecting at all.

Does anyone know what the issue could be?

- I'm pretty sure my network card is updated

Hello all,

Well it started yesturday when I got home. I couldnt connect to the internet, tried restarting everything (pc, modem and router) and still nothing. It says "identifiying...no network access" the whole time on the bottom. Roommates all connect wirelessly perfectly (embarrassingly im supposed to be the computer person) and wired to the one that would be going to my pc.

I also have a asus mobo with "express gate" so when I boot up I can use the mobo and software on the HD to access the internet (which works, so I know that my hardware is fine) but when I boot into w7 it doesnt let me connect! These problems started last night!

This morning I need to check something for school, did a system restore to 2/4 and still didnt work.

I tried following http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18203-internet-troubleshooting-guide.html and ipconfig/all, noticed I have a IPv4 (says preferred after the ip), subnet mask, dns servers, but no default gateway to continue the tutorial.

I then hard reset my router and still wouldnt work. Im out of ideas now. I dont have a dvd drive anymore so dont know if I can reinstall windows (dont have time now have a test tommorow!) so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks in advanced!

Also note:
In internet options, the lan settings are set to auto connect.
Windows firewall is off
I uninstalled AVG thinking it had something to do with it

I'm wondering why your not using a private address range and why your router is subnetting a class b address. If this is a personal router for only yourself that is not needed. If its the universitys router for everyone to connect to then that's a differnt story. I will check the subnerting tomorrow.

Post the ipconfig /all for when you have connection and when you don't. Specify which is which.

Also I noticed your running a ipv6 to ipv4 tunnel.

update

I need more information. The subnetting looks fine, but i need to know if you're running off a campus router or your own personal router. If this is a campus router and you're getting DHCP from them then there's not much i can do for you other then trying to disable your IPV6 to IPV4 tunnel. Also do you know why you're running on a public IP address?

So I have a 64 bit of windows 7, and since yesterday I started having the default gateway problem. My computer will connect to my wireless for about a minute or two, and then fall to limited network access. I can troubleshoot the problems, and it will come up with several different responses after fixing the issue. The repairs will last about a minute or two before falling again. I have read on other threads about very similar problems, but I don't understand how to fix the issue. I have a shared CISCO DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 router serviced by Cox broadband internet. I do not have AVG or McAfee (I heard those were common issues here,) and I had just restored my computer to factory settings today, hoping to fix the problem, to no avail. The problem persisted before and after the factory reset. (though it has only been an issue, as far as I've noticed, since yesterday.) I had been connected to this internet with no problems for weeks now previously.

I looked on another thread about this and they said that wifi miniports and tunnel adapters aren't helpful, both of which I have, but I don't know how to get rid of them, or which ones to get rid of.

I am able to connect to the internet on this computer via tethering from my phone so I'm not sure whether it's the router or my wireless adapter.

I don't know much at all about the deep inner workings of wifi so if you could make responses as simple as possible, I would appreciate it alot. (sorry in advance, haha.)

Hi folks,

I don't mean to be rude by signing up just to ask for help, but I'm kinda struggling. You might be familiar with this issue already but by internet is dropping out frequently, displaying as 'Limited' with no access. Running troubleshooter fixes it by resetting the network adapter, tells me 'the default gateway is not available', and it works for a while until it opts to drop out again. It's a little irritating. I've had to rewrite this post because the connection dropped while I was typing and I submitted without realising.

I'm using a Lenovo Z585, which has a wireless Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter. I've seen several topics about the same issue on this very forum, but unfortunately none of the offered solutions have worked for me. I forget everything I've tried as I've been at this over a year and only just decided to ask for help, but I've done the following recently;

*Made sure that 'allow the computer to turn off this device' is unchecked in Power Management.
*Updated the adapter's manufacturer drivers to the most modern version, and also the Microsoft option (connection drops entirely and forces a roll back in both cases). Current driver is dated from 2012.
*Manually entered the gateway IP (though there's a fair chance I did this incorrectly)
*Restarted the DHCP service

If anybody has any further potential options, I would be most grateful.
Here's my full ipconfig if it's required.

Forget everything you posted, along with the unneeded ipconfig info. Really what is going on (give the short version)? Open up Cmd and post the output of "netsh wlan show all". You need to copy the output, and then save it to a text file, so that you can post it into a post.

Also what is the manufacturer & model of the Gateway you are using?

When I am on the computer for a few minutes I get the status bar on the bottom with the yellow triangle and exclamation point. When I have windows troubleshoot it all it says is, DEFAULT GATEWAY NOT AVAILABLE. Then it fixes it and then like2 minutes later it goes away again. I have an ipad and another laptop and they have no issues with connection. It is very upsetting. i have attached a screenprint per your request in another post I read.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit. My Internet connection keeps getting dropped, and when I run the troubleshooter, I can get two different messages: "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding" or "The default gateway is not available." When I get the former, I might as well give up getting on the Internet. When I get the latter, the problem can be fixed. Any amount of time later, my connection is dropped again. It can be a day or just a couple of minutes.

I used to have a router, but when this problem happened, I wired it straight from the satellite to the modem, from the modem to the computer.

I contacted my ISP, and we ran through several steps all for nothing. I connected my old laptop, and it works just fine.

Both the pc and laptop have Windows Vista.

Hi all

I am connected to a windows domain LAN and a 3G network adapter at the same time.

Now by default, the Computer connects to the internet via the LAN. Now at times the internet via the LAN is VERY slow, so I would like to override it with the 3G connection, so that all internet traffic goes via my 3G network, which is an entirely different network

The key is here that I do not want to disconnect form the LAN.

Thank you!

A:Change the default gateway to the internet to 3G connection

Hi DextrousDave!

Before I can advise a possible solution to your problem I need a couple bits of information first!

When you say you are connected to a Domain is that through a Windows Active Directory domain or are you connected to a workgroup? This is important to know as it can affect what DNS servers will need to be set up in order to complete this.

Secondly is the 3G connection able to connect to the network on its own through an ethernet cable with its own IP address or is it an adapter which must be connected to a machine via USB or another interface?

Many thanks for your co-operation,
Josh!

Hey,

So, I'm on my wonderful laptop and it works well when I'm home. When I go to college, however, I drop internet ever couple of minutes. I run the troubleshooter and it reports that the Default Gateway Is Not Available. So, that sucks. It fixes the problem, then, a few minutes later, it happens again. I've been looking for a fix to this problem and I've found several relevant posts on the internet, but most ask for router information. Some even said that the router may not work with windows 7 and it needs a firmware update. I can't change the router, because it's a dorm. Others nearby haven't had any trouble. I do have friends who have the same problem as I, but less frequently. I thought the problem was McAffee so I got rid of it, but the problem persists. I'm really anxious to get this solved, so any help is much appreciated. I'm willing to supply whatever information necassary.

Thanks.

Syzygy,
Is your Gateway through AT&T Uverse which is what I have.
If so power down the Gateway and let it reboot.
Problems persist have them replace the Gateway as they did for me.

For the LAN use a static IP and leave the Default Gateway and DNS server addresses blank.

Hi all,
I am connected to wired modem directly to my Dell studio (windows 7 home premium 64 bit) laptop. I am using this connection for past 6 months and it's working fine. all of sudden from yesterday I am not able to connect to internet. I am getting yellow Warning symbol on the network sharing icon in task bar.
When I connect the same connection to my friends laptop, are bale to connect to internet.
I ran diagnostics and it's not able to run "local network communication test".
Error Reason : the default gateway is populated with 0.0.0.0
I had checked in cmd prompt for my adapter settings. there also Default gateway is empty.

I had tried Following things
1.DHCP is enabled
2.Turned off my AV(microsoft essentials)
3.reset WINSOCK, IPv4 TCP/IP, and IPv6 TCP/IP stack.rnet
4.Unistalled &installed the driver(n/w adapter : Realtek RTL8168D/8111D Family PCI-E gigbit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20))
5. n/w trouble shoot report says "local area connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration
Nothing worked. What doesn't make sense is till yesterday everything is working fine and I didn't make any changes on my system.

My internet connection keeps dropping, when I run the diagnostics it comes back showing the problem as the "default gateway is not available" and showing it being fixed, but then it will happen again a few minutes later. I have been Googling the issues in hopes of finding a solution but nothing I have tried from what I've found has worked. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L645 and I'm using a wireless connection to a Motorola SBG6580, this is the first time I've had this particular issue since purchasing the computer almost 2 years ago.

A:Internet Connection Dropping- Default Gateway not Available

Sounds like a router/modem issue to me.
Have you power cycled it lately?
Do you have a modem plugged into that motorola or is it a combo unit?

All of the sudden my home wireless internet is having lots of problems. When I connect on my laptop, I get a little exclamation mark in a yellow triangle next to the network. It also works fine for a little while, and then disconnects. I've run the "diagnose" tool, and it tells me that it fixes something about the default gateway, but the problem persists. I tried calling Comcast because we rent our router from them, but of course they were absolutely no help. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated, this is driving me crazy because I work from home and really really need a good internet connection!

A:Intermittent internet- problems with default gateway?

is this wireless connection or cable connection from PC to Router

make and model of the PC and what windows version

any other PCs connected to the network and do they disconnect or work OK

how often does it disconnect

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

if you are connected by wireless, please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

lets see the following please

ipconfig /all
Three Ping tests
xirrus screen shot

I am running Windows 7 64-bit. My Internet connection keeps getting dropped, and when I run the troubleshooter, I can get two different messages: "(DNS server) is not responding" or "The default gateway is not available." When I get the former, I have to restart my router. Any amount of time later, my connection is dropped again. It can be a day or just a couple of minutes.

I'm using an Arris DG860A provided by time warner cable. Seems to drop more frequently when i run a P2P program. I also thought about upgrading my Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller from version 7.50.1123.2011 to version 7.073.0723.2013

Please tell me if I still have viruses or if you can tell me how to make internet the default gateway rather than my VPN

I downloaded spyware 2009 yesterday and ever since I did that, I cannot connect to the Internet without being connected to my VPN (which I use for work) first??? Somehow, the internet default has the wrong gateway connection?

Yesterday I followed these instructions
Run, cmd.....ipconfig

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log
and then I rebooted my machine....

I think I reset to my installation defaults..... can I un-redo this?

HELP!!!!!

A:infected virus and VPN is now my Internet default gateway
