I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

First, check Device Mgr for any device warnings, errors or other issues. If none, run "main.cpl" from the start menu but without the quotes to navigate the mouse and touchpad settings. Jack E/NJ

My laptop came with an Elantech touchpad and the 5.0.3.6 driver. I cannot get the touchpad to disable tapping even though I've disabled it on the touchpad tab. There is no BIOS setting (Phoenix). Does anyone know if a different driver will correct the situation -- or a work-around?

Thanks

On my HP laptop, updating its Synaptics touchpad driver fixed that exact problem. Elantech may have a similar update. Check laptop mfg's site first, Elantech's site second.

(Note: it is possible that there is a driver update which addresses the issue but makes no mention of the fix in the description. Be sure to create a Restore Point before applying [any] update!)

Hi everyone, I will bug your head a little with this touchpad problem 4days ago my touchpad stopped working! Just like that. First I wanted to go in device manager and check for driver updates and etc but touchpad was not listed among the pointing devices, only my usb mouse was listed. After I would remove my usb mouse the entire tab for pointing devices would vanish. My touchpad just dissapeared.  In windows 10 settings, under mouse and touchpad controls there were no touchpad options either.  After googleing I found out that my lapy uses synaptic touchpad drivers. I tried instaling them and found them on two sources. One source had just 640kb for driver, I tried that one but it said that it was already installed. Then I found synaptic driver from the synaptic website and that one had 300mb drivers, that one installed but did nothing. Toucpad was stll not working. Anyway before all this happened like a week before I was planning on buying a new SSD and installing win10 all over again. So after failing to fix touchpad I decided that it was time to do what I wanted for quite some time. I went and bought brand new Patriot Blast 240GB SSD and replaced my old HDD. I booted my win10 os from DVD and started installation. Hoping that whatever driver problem with my touchpad was would be fixed by removing the entire HDD along with the OS and installing everything new from the start. But.... After win10 DVD loaded and instala... HELP please... I have configured a Samsung laptop for a neighbour but can't turn off tapping, which I need to do to make the laptop usable for my neighbour, who is elderly.
The incumbent driver is from Elan (? ).

I have tried the latest driver from the Samsung website
I have tried a Synaptics driver

None of them deliver a 'disable tapping' button...

Anybody able to offer a solution / driver that allows this basic functionality?

Thanks!

How about an external mouse mate wired or not and just disable the touch pad altogether when the mouse is plugged and it comes back on when the mouse is taken out . I do that with all my laptops as I find the touch pad really very irritating.

Also if the user is then finding it difficult to manipulate the machine via the touch pad the external mouse is going to be so much easier

Hi, I bought myself an Acer Aspire E5-551G roughly 5 months ago .. haven;t really got time to play anything till this last month. I usually play games like League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm, Warframe, ArcheAge. The thing is they run really poor on this machine .. I had better FPS on my previous laptop a HP Sleekbook 15 with Intel I3 3217U @ 1.8 Ghz and Integrated Intel HD 4000 than on this Acer with AMD FX-7500 Radeon R7 @ 2.1 Ghz up to 3.3 Ghz and a dedicated AMD Radeon R7 M265 Series @ 2GB VRam. I have no ideea why is this happening or what to do.I tried with AMD Control Center, i've set everything on Maximize Performance but nothing seems to be Improved. I checked the BIOS for any settings but it seems I can;t do anything there. Any Ideeas? Opinions? Anything really...I know it's a laptop and not meant for gaming .. but still ... those games .. at least the first three should run just fine.

I have the Acer Aspire V3-551G (specifically the V3-551G-8454 model) and since I got it the laptop has had some overheating issues when I run games or Ubuntu. My solution to that was just to stop running games and Ubuntu, and besides that it's worked pretty well besides Explorer deciding to crash randomly (it doesn't happen too often though). However, I've had the laptop for a while now and and not too long ago I noticed the fan would rarely become extremely loud. As the weeks went by, the sound became more frequent, especially if I moved the laptop even just a little while it was on, so I stopped moving the laptop. But now, even with the laptop sitting still on a table, there is about a 40%-50% chance that it will have an extremely loud fan when I start it. What's weird is that sometimes I noticed the fan is too quiet too. When it does this I assume that the fan is actually off which shouldn't be happening because the laptop gets super hot. Sometimes after a while of silence the loud noise come up too, which is nice because now the fan is on, but is also not good because of the volume of the noise. I'm pretty sure problem is coming from the GPU (or whatever the big fan on the left underside of the laptop is). I also suspect the fan had actually been the culprit of the overheating (which consequently caused Explorer to crash sometimes). So because having an immobile laptop is a pretty big problem for me I decided to look up the problem ... I have a similar problem. my fan makes some kind of croaking noise jst before it starts to spin whenever i put on the system, and intermittently later on. I advise you don't open your system until you've exhausted other options. my own system is jst about 6 to 8 months old, so i am not looking forward to changing my fan anytime soon. have you tried looking through the base of your system to check for dust? you should search online. there are various supposed fixes worth checking out. i tried installing speedfan, which didn't detect my fans. as i couldn't risk opening my system to check the fan myself, which involved removing the keyboard and motherboard, i took it to a technician. came back, and the fan is still making that sound(incidentally, it didn't make the sound at the technician's), in addition to a new one i suspect is from the hard drive. In essence, if you later have to take it apart, make sure it's a real professional who knows what he is doing. And whatever works for you, please update this discussion. I'd like to check it out on my system. also try to run a hardware diagnostic. haven't had any success with that myself, but that's because i can't seem to find a software that works for acer. i jst opened a new discussion for that topic and hope i'll get a new reply soon.

So today I worked on my laptop, I opened it up because the USB 3.0 ports got disconnected somehow. I fixed that, put it back together, and upon booting it up my graphics drivers are no longer functioning. The computer recognizes them, but they are in a perpetual cycle of error code 43. This laptop comes with an AMD APU with Radeon graphics. The specific combo is Radeon 7600m+7660g. The error says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems." on both graphics drivers, which are for some reason separate entities on the device manager.. which they never used to be.

I have tried the following and still get the error.
-100% clean uninstall(registry and folders included) of the drivers, and reinstall of drivers from both ATI and the Laptop manufacturer.
-Took apart laptop again to assure I havent accidentally unplugged something..I am 100% sure I have not.
-Restored PC to 2 days prior to event
-Enough fidgeting with device manager to throw up.

I have never had an issue like this. I am really good at solving driver related issues but I am truly stumped. Ive spent 8 hours trying to get it to work, since I need the video functional for class this Friday. If anyone has any clue as to what is going on, please help.

Again, the laptop is Acer Aspire v3-551g x419

I just bought an Acer Aspire E15 laptop running windows 8.1 64 bit Feb 14, 2017. It took a while to get it to install updates. I looked up how to fix the "stuck at checking for updates forever" and I figured out how to get the updates working by manually installing a few updates using standalone update packages from Microsoft.com. I had to disable my internet and disable windows update with 'net stop wuauserv' in cmd. After installing them in the correct order based on the prerequisites section for the update that another forum mentioned, I ran 'net start wuauserv' and enabled my internet. It then, by itself, installed 221 updates and it took 10 hours. Now the touchpad on it has stopped working and is not listed in device manager. Please help.

A:Touchpad on acer aspire e15 not working

I downloaded the IO drivers from the manufacturer's website. When I installed the IO drivers, a dialog showed up that said 'The same or newer drivers are already installed. Do you want to install them anyway?' to which I clicked yes. Once they were installed, I rebooted the computer and now my touchpad works. If your computer has a sticker on it saying it is an Acer Aspire E15, you want to look for drivers for Acer Aspire ES1-511. Sounds weird but it works. If windows update reinstalls bad drivers, though this is generally a bad idea as it makes your computer more vulnerable to hackers and malware, I hate to say this, but you may want to disable automatic updaes.

I have a month old Acer Aspire E 15 laptop. Its touchpad is very hard and for normal touch it just keeps roaming picking up cells. It can only be stopped by taking off the finger and then carefully taking cursor to an empty cell and press hard to click so the several picked up cells get released and I can work further. I tried Fn+F7 suggested by a forum member but it acts only an On/Off switch for the touchpad. Press Fn+F7 and it goes off, press again it comes back. But the hardness remains. A click with the touchpad means press the touchpad hard till it literally 'clicks'. Looks like the machine will be usable only with a mouse. Before I had a Lenovo and never faced any such problem. Anyone faced such a problem? And any solutions?

After updating to Windows 10 some months ago I've got some troubles with my Synaptic touchpad. Generally it's become less sensible so that I need to to tap more than one time and harder to select something. And when I've worked on my Acer Aspire 7745G for a long time the touchpad simply stop working, and the only thing that can make it work again is restarting the pc! A smaller annoying thing is that when drawing a line using the touchpad, moving a tiny bit too fast can make it accelerate out of my control. Hyper-sensibility one could call it! The problems occurs both when using the latest driver from Acer.com Synaptics 14.0.6.0, 2010/04/12, and the one installed automatically with Windows 10, Synaptics 19.0.9.4., 2015/07/14.

I love this forum and have found a ton of useful information but this is my first time posting.

So I have an Acer Aspire ES1-512-P18H laptop that came stock with Windows 10. I deleted the partition and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in legacy mode with a USB flash drive. I then installed most of my drivers and noticed that the scroll function on the keypad was not working.

I went to Acer Aspire ES1-512 Drivers Download for Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, XP and downloaded the "Mouse and Touchpad Driver" which is an Elantech driver. No luck.

I then uninstalled said driver and downloaded the Synaptics "Windows 8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit Edition v17.0.19" driver from Software Drivers | White Papers | Videos | Synaptics. Again, no luck.

I did some more research and found this article Solved: Aspire e15 (e5-511-p9y3) Touchpad not working on w... - Acer Community - 277578 and attempted to install Windows 7 in UEFI mode with Secure Boot off. I deleted the Windows 7 partition to not cause any issues and to perform a clean install on a blank partition. I then did some more research and found this to be a common problem when installing Windows 7 on systems made for win8/10 using UEFI.

Hi, I'm running Windows 10 on a Acer Aspire S7-392-6832 laptop. Lately I've been getting jealous of my Macbook friends because of the four-finger swipe that quickly switches the last two open windows (effectively the same as Alt-Tab on my laptop) However, I was wondering why my laptop is not concidered to have a "Windows Precision Touchpad". The drivers that I use (ELANtech - the main driver, and Synaptics) allows for 3 or 4 finger gestures, so surely my expensive 2013 ultrabook laptop has a touchpad that is good enough. Does anyone know how to make the touchpad show up as a "precision" model so I can use the useful gestures (that includes the app-switching in OS X)?  I've tried reinstalling the Synaptics and ELANtech drivers and messing with some other options but that did not work for me.  Thank you.

Laptop is an Acer Aspire 4730z with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, fully updated to current.

I installed an update to Avast's engine, and after rebooting, when I got to the Windows logon screen, both the mouse buttons on both the built-in Synaptics touchpad and an external USB mouse will only select an item, but nothing else happens. In other words, if I click on a user account, it selects it but it doesn't allow me to enter a password. Likewise, if I click on the shutdown icon at the lower right of the screen, it just selects it but nothing else happens.

But, I found that if I hit the tab key and then the enter key to select something on this screen, then the left mouse button starts working again on the touchpad and the USB mouse..

When I get into windows, the left mouse button on both the built-in touchpad and the external mouse continue to work, but the right mouse button on the built-in touchpad doesn't work. However, the right mouse button on the USB mouse works.

I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this:
- uninstalled Avast (I'm now using MSE as the anti-virus on this machine)
- uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for both mouse devices multiple times, using different versions (for the touchpad, one set of drivers from Acer, another set from Synaptics)
- uninstalled the Synaptics device from device manager and let windows reinstall it upon reboot
- updated the drivers within device manager (it didn't find any that were more curr... Read more

Something weird happened. It would not work no matter what I tried. I was watching a movie on KODI formerly XBMC. I accidently touched the Keypad and the Mouse moved. I pressed the Video button and it lit up. Only thing that I can figure out is that it took several hours for the driver update to work or that the Video triggered the Touchpad. I had uninstalled and deleted every instance of the driver including the Backup System Reserved created by a MS Tech, when my Windows Ultimate became corrupted. Initialy it had Win-7 Home Premium and when it would not install IE10 at the time MS gave me a free upgrade to Ultimate.Even then it took a week to finally get IE10 installed because the Computer Lacked Service pack1. Kudos to the MS Techs, they called me numerous times and worked on my computer. The spoke excellent English and are based in India. Laptop was out of warranty and Acer pretty much said tough luck, you gotta pay. MS did not charge me one cent.

I have to add my SUCCESSFULLY SOLVED experience with ACER Aspire 7741G with ALPS touchpad. So I tried to search similar models.Acer Aspire 7740 or 7740G are with Windows 8 drivers that solved the problem.https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/support-product/2004?b=1 After clean install of Windows 10, it was found as Synaptics (and worked at the basics. Full functionality will be reached after installing ALPS driver. Hope it will help to someone other. I spent a lot of time by resolving. MESSAGE TO ACER STAFF:PLEASE, KEEP YOUR DRIVERS UPDATED FOR ALL OF YOUR MODELS!!!

For the past few months, the right touchpad button does not work with the Windows 10 drivers. Windows 8.1 drivers worked fine. If I switch mouse settings to left handed, then the buttons work fine, but obviously this is awkward to get used to. I have rollbacked the driver to a very old edition and it worked fine, however then I had no synaptics touchpad settings so the touchpad settings could not be altered.

19.0.9.7 is the synaptics version

touchpad works fine on other user accounts

The touchpad on my e15 does not work at all, but after searching for forums, they said its the BIOS problem, so i updated my bios via acer support page, it works fine now, hope this help..

Just ruled out malware in other section of this forum. Laptop's integrated keyboard suffers intermittent lock-ups for no apparent reason (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, right now, doesn't). Touchpad seems deactivated (tried FN + F7 in case of accidental disable, but that's not the case), every option related to touchpad are grayed out in 'mouse' menu (config panel). Before malware check-up,tried system restore to last week, all problems were still there, so I reverted back. I have to use visual keyboard to type. Have to work with external mouse because touchpad doesn't work. Tried reinstalling touchpad drivers from Acer website, and didn't work. Computer worked perfect a few days ago.

Sounds like you may have some system files corrupt. This can occur after a lot of spyware. Some times just removing it dose not correct what it has already messed up. Your best maybe to back up your personal stuff. Then do a factory reinstall.
