Acer Aspire 5750 screen freezing (and not freezing)

Q: Acer Aspire 5750 screen freezing (and not freezing)

Hello,
I'm hoping for a bit of help and advice on this issue before I go taking anything apart or delving into the insides of my laptop or taking it to a repair shop.
When I turn the laptop on I get the Acer screen and then the top left quarter of the screen goes black and the whole thing freezes (see the attachment). However when I plug the laptop into my TV screen via HDMI it's absolutely fine and starts up no problem. Even when I take the cable out once it has started up it works fine on just the laptop screen but it's something about the start-up that makes it freeze. I also shut it down, unplugged the HDMI and started it up again on just the laptop and it worked fine again so really confused about what is going on.
Has anyone come across something like this before? I've attached my computer specs below too.
Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I really need some help!

Earlier today I was using my laptop (AcerAspire) And everything was working normally. Now, as soon as the 'Starting Windows' Screen pops up the entire computer freezes, and a thin strip of dead pixels pop up at the top of the screen. This means I cant reach the desktop, and I can only access the menus through the F# keys. When it starts, I get taken to a menu that says 'Launch startup repair' or 'start windows normally'. Going through the repair tells me no solutions can be found, and entering any of the safe modes also freezes the computer almost immeadiatly. What can I do?

Please help, I have a new Acer aspire One AOD255 netbook. It is has the N450 processor, 1MB RAM, 160GB HD and is running windows XP home as an operating system.

When running only an Internet application (using Mozilla Firefox) the system cursor and keyboard will freeze. The only option is to power down using the power button. I've contacted Acer support and they say there's nothing in their system about the problem. They have no suggestions. They went on to say if I try to update the BIOs they void the warranty. I've tried updating the touchpad driver but that did not help.

It is also running the McAfee trial security program that came with the machine.

If I can't fix it I will have to return to Target within 90 days for a warranty return. I like the machine and price but it is a real pain to have to completely shut down and reboot. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi I have an Acer Aspire X3300 which is around a year and a half old, for about the past week it has been freezing and not responding until the power is turned off and back on again, sometimes it comes up checking disc for corruptions. Sometimes it works for a while then goes off, other times it just keeps freezing every 10 mins or so. I did have problems when the computer was around 2 months old with the same problem and it went back and forward to Acer about 3 times and they kept saying it was a software issue. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Another freezing question.

I did a clean install of Win7x64 on an Acer x1700. Locks up after about 10 minutes of watching online videos from hulu, netflix, etc. Complete freeze: no keyboard or mouse response, video freeze, audio chatter, etc. Computer only used to browse internet so no other software other than browser loaded. Ran memtest86+ for about 5 hrs, no errors. Updated chipset drivers from NVIDIA website. No changes to BIOS (AMI) from factory preset.

At a loss for what to do next.

Thanks.

I would take a look at your antivirus software. What antivirus software are you running? I have the same system and am using Microsoft Security Essentials.

Hello everyone, I'm here to seek assistance on my Laptop that started to get random freezing that occurs every 10-15 minutes for about 2-10 minutes.

I got the Laptop from a relative( a gift), it seemed to be in brand new condition with the protective plastic on the screen etc. Microsoft Office and AVG (antivirus),Acer games and a few other things were already on before I got it.

The Laptop was running smoothly, and fast for about 2-3 months then suddenly started to get the random freezing on the Internet and slow running in things like Windows Media, Microsoft Word, Chess Titans and other Windows programs.

I've recently tried to clear the registry of any errors, which seemed to work for about and hour but the next day returned to former freezing self.

I'm really considering restoring the Computer back to default factory settings, but that would mean It deletes everything, and I'm not sure if Microsoft Office was pre-installed or Installed by my relative, does anyone know a way to get rid of this freezing, and if I do have to restore to factory default setting, could you give me Information of If i might have to get Microsoft Office back by buying or if it would still be there as I reset the the whole laptop.

Hello. My problem is that my Laptop (Acer Aspire 5738PZG, approx. 2 years old) freezes. It most commonly does so while watching Youtube videos, but also while listening to music on Spotify, talking on Skype, and using Utorrent. It freezes for maybe 1 minute, when it will just resume doing whatever it was doing. Sometimes it also bluescreens. It does not happen while playing games or while using VLC media player. Flash player is correctly installed. The problem started after I had my computer on service about two months ago, but I moved shortly after so I haven't had the chance to go back and make them take another look at it. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

my acer aspire 1300 notebook freezes. Often, maybe always. There is absolutely no pattern in it. Doesnt need any actions to freeze. The screen freezes, whereas the cooler still works. Ok, this is a laptop that I had to install Windows XP Professional edition onto. It has issues where sometimes, when the system is left on , it will turn off the monitor/screensaver and not respond when someone comes back to it, requiring a restart.

Also, sometimes the restart will power it on, but it will hang on a black screen.

The last issue is that sometimes, the screen will "warp" into several vertical lines , and stop responding. Any thing i can do that may be causing this?

This is the same laptop , where the speakers refused to work, if anyone remembers that.

Thanks everyone.

Hi all,

This is my first but definitely not my last post so please bear with me if I've put this in the wrong section.

I have two Acer Aspire x1700 systems and both seem to have the same symptoms: They freeze within windows. It's not an operating system problem as I've done fresh re-installs as part of my troubleshooting. It's not faulty hard drives because I've run stress tests and they've passed all of the diags.

I BELIEVE it is a heat problem but I'm looking for a second opinion. Does anyone have any suggestions? These systems have never been used before so it isn't a virus or malware.

Also, curiously, the bios is resetting after rebooting and I'm getting a bad checksum error. I'm not sure if that's related. I'm stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Um, hi there. I got a new laptop a few months ago, and it was running very slow, so I tried doing a system restore.

After the system restore, my computer would completely lock up seconds after I logged in. The screen would freeze, and the mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. I've tried putting it back to factory settings, but it kept doing it. But, everything runs perfectly fine when I am in Safe Mode.

I was wondering if any of you could help me out.

Thank you in advance if you can!

And if you need any more information, please tell me! I really need help!

Hi mike41,

I would advise you to boot into safemode and turn of all the autostart items (Start > Search "msconfig" > Hit enter > Startup tab). Disable all that aren't windows services so that you'll have a clean start. It might be one of these processes that gets stuck during the startup.

Also when it freezes, could you attach an external keyboard and see if that responds? If so, try killing Explorer.exe and starting it again (From the task manager).

A:Acer Aspire 5532-5535 freezing problems....

I always advise people to test the hard drive when they experience puzzling problems like that. If the drive passes the test, well at least you know to look elsewhere.

Test it with SeaTools for DOS which runs from a bootable CD, but first back up all your data to another drive or to CD/DVD, depending on how much there is to back up.

Get SeaTools for DOS here (click Downloads): SeaTools | Seagate. Save the download to your usual downloads folder.

Now download & install IMGBurn from here: FileHippo.com - Download Free Software
/download_imgburn/

Use IMGBurn to create a CD from the SeaTools ISO file you downloaded earlier, then boot your laptop from that CD & SeaTools will eventually open (you may have to set the CD/DVD drive as the first boot device in BIOS Setup on your laptop).

I've checked out the forums fairly throughly but I still am not having any luck. Right now I'm installing the WDK so I can decipher the minidmp so I'll add that shortly. I'm running a Aspire 5750.  Windows 7 64-bit, Intel i5 2450M, 8 gb Dual Channel DDR3 @532 Mhz (7-7-7-20), ACER JE50_HR mobo, 232 WD hard drive. I bought it second hand - I'm experienced enough that pulling parts and testing things doesn't bother me but this has me stumped. When ever I stream video (and less often download software) it crashes with a 124 BSOD which generally means heat, overclocking instability or damaged hardware. The fan wasn't working right - so I thought easy fix - replace the fan, clean everything up and redo the thermal paste. Still happened. So now it gets more problematic. Stress tested the GPU with FurMark - 20 mins - no crashes.Stress tested the CPU with Prime95 - 45 mins - no crashes/no errors/no warnings.Temperature never goes above 70.'Disabled' Turbo by setting the power for the processor to less than 100%.  Still happens.Chkdsk (this is a fresh Windows install with nothing more than Chrome and some windows updates added) - hard disk comes back clean instantly. (I'll be replacing this in the future anyway with a 2TB M9T Samsung)Memory test - had an 8 gig sodimm in it to begin with.  It was not 1066 and only one.  This tested out with an error in the first pass.  I thought AH HAH got you.  So I replaced it with ... After GW2 crashed my Toshiba Satellite which wouldn't power back on (until later that day) I unpacked my partners Acer Aspire M1610 since he never did after our move. It had intermittent BSOD issues that we always assumed was the vid card because you seemingly can't disable the integrated graphics on this pc. I uninstalled the graphics card and did a system restore so I'd be starting from scratch. I installed an old netgear wireless pci card (wg311t) and the PC kept crashing to BSOD. I uninstalled the card and installed a Blekin USB adapter. We still occasionally get the BSOD [but the error is no longer the netgear driver, but dxgkrnl.sys (directx?), system search turns up no results for the driver]. And now, the computer consistently freezes. I have attempted to update all drivers, there does not appear to be a BIOS update, I ran error check on the HDD when I restored the system. The freezing always occurs in game, but also sometimes when performing other functions. Oh and I did ... Read more

I've got the laptop named in the title, and basically what's happening is that it will run absolutely fine when not plugged in. There's not been a single issue with crashes when not plugged in. Luckily it's got good battery life which helps. However, when it's plugged in, any of the following happens.

- It won't turn on
- It turns on, the screen does not, and almost immediately the fan raises to extremely whirry levels
- It turns on, and will run fine till I ask it to do something demanding like play a game, I might get 10-20-30 mins, sometimes even more before freezing, When it does freeze the fan goes very whirry again.
- When I turn it on, if it hasn't worked normally first time, I'll start it up not plugged in. I'll plug it in later. Sometimes within a few seconds it'll lock up as stated before.Other times it'll run fine(I've noticed a possible correlation, the longer I leave it on battery power, the more chance that it doesn't lock up? )

I should state that generally if I'm just browsing the internet and stuff like that, it usually doesn't lock up.

Also, I ran a disk check a few times, and it seemed to single out a file called setapm.exe, which I've found is something to do with power management. It did something to the file and the laptop worked fine for a week, no issues at all. But since then it's re-occurred.And subsequent diskcheck's have found nothing.

So the title says it all.

Here are some specs:

Intel Core i5 @ 2.26Ghz
4Gb DDR3 RAM
320GB HD
Ati Radeon 5470 512mb ddr3 memory.

Anything else needed just ask..

So what happens is this.

When I play a game like Call of Duty 2/4 on my laptop, after some time even though not always, the screen freezes, the sound keeps going in a truuuuuuuuuuuu never ending way and I have to switch it off by pressing the power on button for like 3 seconds. Then I power it on again and everything is normal. It is really annoying that I cannot play for more than 15 minutes. THIS LAPTOP IS BRAND NEW! So no dust problems or other stuff should be raising temperatures. Normal temperatures read 40-50C while when gaming 65C are reached or more. Still i guess temp is not the problems as sometime it simply stops after 5 seconds and I'm sure that in 5 seconds the temperatures don't rise that much.

I bought this from abroad so I cannot really send it in for repair. Also, i've changed the OS from Home Basic 64-Bit to Ultimate 64-Bit. All of them being Windows 7.

Thanks for your time. Awaiting your reply so that I can finally start enjoying my christmass present. Thanks.

I checked with a similar model laptop and confirmed ram, hd, battery, power pack are all working good.

After putting back every thing and retested my the fault still persists.

I am suspecting I may have a faulty mb may be caused by a short somewhere.

I really need assistance here to work around this fault to get the machine working properly.

I know nothing about the actual software or hardware of my laptop; I just know how to go to different sites.

Lately my laptop keeps randomly cutting to a blue screen with white text; usually occurs without warning, but the laptop will restart itself and everything will return to running normally until the next appearance of the blue screen.

The laptop is just over 2 years old and came installed with Windows 7.
? OS - Windows 7
? x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? I'm don't know what that means. The online specs say that it was a 64-bit.
? What was original installed OS on system? I think it was, I'm so sorry, I was given to laptop as a gift.
? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? It was pre-installed.
? Age of system (hardware) - 2 years?
? Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? No.

? CPU - What does this mean?
? Video Card - What does this mean?
? MotherBoard - What does this mean?
? Power Supply - 6-cell Lithium-ion battery

? System Manufacturer - Acer, Inc
? Exact model number - Aspire 5750-2434G64Mnkk

A:[SOLVED] Acer Aspire 5750 - problem event name: BlueScreen

Hi,

All of the attached DMP files are of the IRQL_GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE (4a) bugcheck.

This indicates that a thread is returning to user mode from a system call when its IRQL is still above PASSIVE_LEVEL.

This is most likely being caused by a problematic and or buggy device driver, so let's go ahead and enable Driver Verifier to get further information:

Driver Verifier:

What is Driver Verifier?

Driver Verifier is included in Windows 8, 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 to promote stability and reliability; you can use this tool to troubleshoot driver issues. Windows kernel-mode components can cause system corruption or system failures as a result of an improperly written driver, such as an earlier version of a Windows Driver Model (WDM) driver.

Essentially, if there's a 3rd party driver believed to be at issue, enabling Driver Verifier will help flush out the rogue driver if it detects a violation.

Before enabling Driver Verifier, it is recommended to create a System Restore Point:

Vista - START | type rstrui - create a restore point
Windows 7 - START | type create | select "Create a Restore Point"
Windows 8 - Restore Point - Create in Windows 8

How to enable Driver Verifier:

Start > type "verifier" without the quotes > Select the following options -

1. Select - "Create custom settings (for code developers)"
2. Select - "Select ind... Read more

I have an Acer Aspire 5750. Recently, wireless connection has been spotty on my computer. Phone and other laptops in household work normal using our Wifi.

On my Acer, there is the F3 button that you're supposed to press with the Function button to enable/disable wireless. Unfortunately, that key and other keys on one side of the laptop are broken. So I use a wireless keyboard, that doesn't have that F3 wireless button.

Problem is I can't turn "on" the wireless function on my computer. There is no small switch on the external body of the laptop. Every time I tried to connect to my Wifi, I get a notice that it couldn't connect and to reset my network adapter. The network adapter Intel Centrino Advanced N6205 is enabled when I check the Device Manager. Says it's working normal. Without pressing the F3 button function, I can't find/get to that screen to enable the Wifi.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks so much.

Right now, someone brought me an Acer Aspire 5538 laptop to look at it. This person wanted me to take a look at it and see what the issue is. The issue is at the startup screen, it loads windows and then it loads the windows 7 desktop without icons and just sits there. Nothing else happens. Or sometimes, it'll go past the windows 7 screen and attempt to load the windows 7 desktop but never going past this black screen after the windows 7 logo and then the blue screen literally pops up for about 1 second (with an error message I can't look at due to how quick the blua screen disappears) and then the screen goes black and then it restarts the PC to do the same process again. Startup repair gives me the same problem as well as nothing loads up so far but a desktop background without any icons. Memory Diagnostic tool also tests but doesn't do anything to fix the issue.

2nd, when trying to restore with a new windows, it won't even boot up the disc. Like no disc bootup. I went into the BIOS and moved the setup order around but still nothing. I gave up on that and tried another option of no longer reformatting but putting the PC back through factory settings. I pressed Alt+F10 so I could get the eRecovery option. After a few tries, I finally did it, it got to the eRecovery restore window but there were no options. The window was there but it was blank with only eRecovery in the heading. It told me to Please Wait A Moment while the ball continued to spin in circl... Read more

First of all check to see how you're using your laptop, when you use it are you sitting you're laptop on your bed maybe it could be overheating...or maybe it has already over heated and you have burned out you're CPU fan. Let me know what is up and we will go from there...

Issue: Computer started freezing after a complete factory recovery.

Gateway GT5405E Refurbished
2.8 GHz Intel Pentium D Processor 820
2 Gigs of Ram
Vista Home Premium 32bit

Ok so the computer started freezing after a factory recovery I had Dualboot of Vista HP 32bit and Ubuntu 10.04. Well I decided I didn't want Ubuntu 10.04 on my computer anymore so I went to Google and downloaded EasyBCD to rewrite the bootloader. After the rewrite I restarted the computer let the computer load up restarted the computer and put in the recovery disc. I did a Factory Recovery as I said. Well after that I noticed I don't see Gateway Splash screen where it says hit F1 F2 or whatever to enter setup. Didn't really pay any attention to that so I'm on my computer after the recovery and went away to do something. I came back to my computer after how ever long and noticed the computer was frozen. Well at least the keyboard of mouse would not work.

Keyboard is PS/2
Mouse is USB

(I knew keyboard wasn't working because when I pressed num lock the light just stayed on)

So after a hard restart in which HDD check didn't come up but it did give the windows didn't shutdown correct screen and gave a choice between normal or safe mode. Anyway I did some looking 3 days straight found out turn off screen saver and screen turning off in power settings. So I did well the problem seemed to go away. Or at least it seemed like it did. I just wasn't leaving the computer idle for longer than 15 mi... Read more

A:Freezing, White Screen, Idles Causing Freezing

I don't think this is a blue screen of death problem, but hey it sucks to have a broken computer. Defragment the computer. load any CDs that came with your hardware. Did u update everything? (drivers and anything else that can be updated, just for updating sake). And just to be thorough, did u install any other software before it started freezing? Make sure your hard drive is not completely full. Test the memory by running Windows Memory Diagnostic just by typing it into search. I've read where it was recommended to turn off any IM service as it lowers security and slows down the system. As well, make sure you don't have a lot of things running at once, and make sure you don't have too many items running at startup. Windows defender > tools > startup programs (do this before installing new anti-virus protection, as that turns defender off. If u need to, temporarily turn defender back on just to list the startup programs), and see if too many programs are loading early and if you even want them to load at all. too many currently running and startup programs can slow down your system.

Check if you have a virus. If you don't have an anti-virus, recommend Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. Check and make sure device manager does not list any non-updated drivers. If your computer cannot handle some aspects of vista like its theme, high display settings, and windows features that take up a lot of resources, turn as much as you can off so that they do not slow yo... I restarted my computer like normal and for whatever reason the computer is now stuck at the Acer boot screen. I try to press DEL to enter Setup and I even tried pressing F12 to go into the Boot Setup, but for whatever reason the computer does not respond to anything.

To shut it off I have to hold down the power button and eventually it shuts off.

Stuff to know:
- I have a wireless mouse and keyboard being used on that desktop.. Should I perhaps try to plug in a corded mouse and keyboard?
- I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks

My Acer Aspire 5612z, Dual-core celeron, 2GB ram, vista home premium 32bit, has two separate problems. Screen is filled with vertical red blue and white vertical stripes, if I tap the screen frame then the picture is ok for 30 mins or so, then goes stripey again. (Poss fault on FL board?).
Second, Laptop boots, 20 seconds, to Acer screen then stops.
Can only switch off power from that point.

A:Acer Aspire screen problem and only boot to Acer screen

Tapping the screen you could have a loose connection from the LCD Panel to the MOBO connector, but you see if you did the screen would dim out. In your case you have the the same issues that tell me that the LCD Panel is faulty. If this unit is still under warranty then have ACER service the unit or take it to ACER dealer who can either send it back to ACER or they can order the panel and replace it for you at no cost, but then it has to be under warranty. If not you'll have to pay the cost of ordering the part, labor to install it. Find out cost prior to signing any agreement.

On your other issue, did you replace or upgrade the battery or memory? If not then remove the battery and plugin the power only. Try this again does it boot the ACER logo and Windows. Can you put your ear down to the keys or palm rest and hear the HDD spinning up?
If not either the HDD is DOA or faulty power module on the MOBO or just bad MOBO. Again same as above if it's under warranty call or take it to ACER factory service dealer.

Make sure if you had a good battery on this laptop that all switches are switched to the lock mode for the battery.

I removed most of the pre-installed software from my new Acer Aspire TC 220, and now my computer constantly freezes.  How would I know if I removed something that I shouldn't have?  I'm running pre-installed Windows 10 V1511.  Unusually enough, my games don't freeze, but when I'm surfing the web or just going through my file explorer, that's when it freezes.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

A:Acer TC 220 Freezing

Type Recovery in Windows search and reset the computer to Factory specs. When you start deleting and uninstalling things again, if you don't know what something is, google it.There will be links that will tell you if you can remove it.

A:My acer keeps freezing!!!!

Sounds like an issue with your audio driver/sound card.
Go into device manager.
(Start> Control Panel> System> Hardware> Device Manager> Sound Video and Game Controllers)

Do you see any "yellow" exclamation marks? If so, post back.

If not.. choose your soundcard by clicking on it, and right clicking your mouse. (i.e. "M Audio Audiophile Delta", on my computer) You'll then see the menu: update driver/disable/uninstall/etc.

Choose "uninstall."
It now helps to find the CURRENT/UPDATED drivers for your laptop's audio using a Google search
(I advise that you go to your laptop's manufacturer's website and find the most updated drivers if possible)

Restart your computer.

When you turn the computer back on and it detects your audio card; and asks you to install software, choose the options that will allow you to install your driver's. I believe it is "Have disk" or "Install drivers from a specific location."

Install the current drivers and restart your computer.

Post back if you don't fully understand the steps or if the problem still exists.

I have had my acer for over a month and I have noticed the computer has 2 glitches and I wonder how I should proceed. The most common thing is the wireless adaptor seems to freeze or stop working every so often. Like internet will stop. If I disconnect from my server and reconnect, everything is fine. Sometimes however the entire computer will freeze and rebooting seems to be the only way to recover (although can be very frustrating). I do love this computer, and I do not know if just updating the Bios will fix it? (Says all drivers updated) Thanks

I already sent my Laptop to Service Center here in Manilabut after one week the problem came back again. They said in the report that the touchpad was replaced. Can anyone tell me,how is that possible? What's the problem? How can i fix this. For now i am disappointed to Acer Product.

A:Acer v3-371-56 TOUCHPAD FREEZING

Rufon,

If you have reinstalled the drivers for the touchpad to rule out software then it could be something else. If the touch pad itself was replaced it could either be a different piece of hardware, the cable that connects it, the touch pad itself, or the operating system. If you've performed a system restore to before it started freezing up and made sure the issue exists there I would recommend that you contact the Acer Technical support again to see what options you have available are.

Hi everyone. I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop with 1 gb of ram. Just put a fresh load of Win XP pro on it, nothing else. System craaaaawls just shy of freezing and is basically unusable...until I take the battery out and just run on AC. Then it runs like a champ. If and when I get a chance to look at task manager, it says that the "system" process is using all the cpu. As soon as I take the battery out, the system process goes down to practically nothing.

This is the third time I have reloaded windows in two days. The first two time it took a little longer to act up...this last time it was immediately after install.

On the first load I got as far as loading all the ACER-specific drivers for that model, and sp3...then it started.

The second time I got as far as the drivers then it started.

This last time, like I said, it was right after install.

I don't think it's hardware specific as I can go to safe mode with the battery in and it runs just fine.

Any thoughts?

if it works ok in safe mode but not otherwise, maybe its the power management
I know Sony have various settings for battery

have a look in control power for power options
