stuttering videos

Q: stuttering videos

Every-once-in-a-while I attempt to play a video embedded in a website. It starts to play OK, but then, after a few seconds, it stops for a few seconds, then start again, etc., all through the video.

What seems to be causing it and is there anything I can do about it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is driving me crazy. Every YouTube vid moves inside the window like someone behind the camera is shaking it violently. The motion distorts into mosaic-like pixelation. I have noticed that this happens only when there is actual motion in the video.

For example, if someone is moving. If there is a still shot of the person, or if just a bunch of text is shown, no stuttering occurs.

And, if I move my cursor constantly inside the vid while it plays, the stuttering stops, but I can't continuously do that!

We're talking about a Windows 7 Fujitsu on Firefox with the latest updates. It's on a university server in Japan, hardwire connected, not wifi.

A wifi connected Panasonic laptop with Windows 8 shows none of this.

Need Help
My old laptop has been having a stuttering problem with games for a couple of years now. It?ll stutter for around five seconds, run smooth for around ten seconds, stutter again for five, run smooth for ten. It?ll keep doing that until I stop playing and close the game. It doesn?t start doing the stutter the second I start the game, it?ll start maybe around five minutes into the game and not quit its pattern. It doesn?t matter what game, how old it is, it does this to all.

It also does this while watching online videos. I can?t watch anything on, for example, Hulu, or Gametrailers, without it doing the same stutter pattern.

I didn?t always have this annoyance. It started little over a year after I bought my laptop. During all this time, while putting up with the problem, I?ve done several clean installs. I?ve tried to solve this myself, but never could find anyone with the same exact problem.

I?ve uploaded several videos that show the stutter problem:

Also, here's my hardware & processes:

Well, 761 MHz processor speed is way too slow for any modern games. You can check go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. The command prompt box appears, press Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk Utility will check the integrity of the drive. You can also click on the PC Running Slow? link in my signature and try those things. Other then that, you need a faster computer.

After my computer did its usual updates, I've noticed a sound issue whenever I've been trying to play games/watch videos. At regular intervals the audio will freeze/skip for a second and make a loud grinding noise, then resume. This happens with music, streaming videos, games, pretty much everything. If I'm watching a video or playing a game, the screen will freeze for a second, then resume.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron N4110 laptop with Windows 7

I assume I need to install a new driver or something, but I am pretty computer illiterate and don't exactly know what I need/where I need to get it from/how to figure out what I need.

Was hoping someone could help here.

A:Audio buzzing/stuttering during videos/games

Since the screen will "freeze", suggests the sound problems are just a result of whatever is causing the PC to hang up and not directly a sound problem. Thus another forum section would be more applicable than the sound section.

You can run the Resplendence Latency Mon program and that may help, if you can figure it out as it gives you "information overload".

i have had this problem for a while. i use media player classic, part of the k-lite codec pack. whenever i play a video within 10-20 mins the video starts to stutter, slowing down before completely stopping as if it had been paused. i have tried watching in windows media player also, the same thing happens.

i am using Catalyst 9.12 drivers.

i had this problem with my old video card (GeForce 8800GTS) too.

i have done some googling and other people have had this problem, for some it was their drivers. others have had success with changing the output settings under DirectShow Video in media player classic. i have tried that, but it still happens, so i am thinking it is definitely a driver issue.

has anyone else had this problem? and if so how were u able to solve it?

The Jet Player seems to play almost anything that WMP won't, and it's got all the extra's like BBE and equalizer settings. ( see if you still have the same problems with Jet)

It also happens when I am watching steaming video. The video will stop for a couple of seconds while the audio continues and when the vid starts again it jumps to meet the audio.

Also when I am scrolling down with the mouse it will get jammed for a second or two then jump down.

Another thing I just noticed while writing this is when I type that too will jam for several seconds then jump.

What's going on here?

Like I say fresh install and it didn't happen before on my previous install. My drivers are all updated (all the common ones).

Hi Everyone! please help!
Every time I turn my computer on (after it was completely off) again which I do a lot as this laptop is so fast to turn off and on, the video streaming does not work.
So after I turn on I go to the bbc, Facebook, youtube, or other streaming sites the video loads and I can click play though it does not actually play, just a still image. same on every website. so to fix this I have to restart the computer, then it works. So for some reason turning the computer off causes this and restarting it fixes it - seems strange to me though more irritating
Second issue is that again online streaming videos stutter all websites all browsers (chrome internet explorer etc.). I have fixed this though by setting Nvidia to be used for the browsers instead of intel. Though this solution uses more power and might be related to the other problem.
This problem has been here since I got the laptop in December 2015, have updated to all the latest drivers bios, applications etc. What else can I do ???

Any help with the videos not playing would be greatly appreciated it is so annoying to turn on the computer go to websites then find you can't play the videos, then remembering you have to restart.

A:Dell XPS 15 9550 Videos online do not play after computer is turned off, also video stuttering

How are you shutting it down? If you use the standard "Start Menu" > "Power" > "Shutdown", it does not completely shut it down. It saves part of memory in a hibernation file which allows it to quickly restart. This could cause issues when you start up again. If you have not tried this, set up a desktop shortcut (right-click on an empty spot on the desktop, select "New" > "Shortcut" and enter "shutdown /s /t 0" in the box (that's "shutdown" + space + forward slash+"s" + space + forward slash+"t" + space + "0" [the number zero]) without the quotes. Click "Next" and give the shortcut a name, then "OK". This will shut the computer down completely.
The other option is to disable "Fast Startup". That should accomplish the same thing. See if either of these help.

Also, whenever a video has finished playing and I exit the tab/window that the video was in, my computer freezes for a bit and the gives me a message about my shockwave plugin being unresponsive. Hello!
Since I've bought a new cisco router last summer, a Lynksys E1200, my computer (Sony, Vaio VGN-NW110D) freezes when i stream videos online or when I use skype video calls. It sometimes freezes for a few minutes (in that case it's just really extremely slow and it sounds like a satanic robot), and then comes back (but does it again a few minutes later. Or sometimes, and this is more frequent with skype video calls, it completely freezes, and i have to reboot the hard way...
This never happened to me before and I've been watching videos and video skyping for years. I have windows 7, service pack 1 (32 bits) now . I have windows 7 now, since about the same time i bought the router. But what makes me think its realated to the router is that when I'm at work, or at my parents, or sisters, or boyfriend's house, this problem does NOT accure.... Do you think you could help me? This is getting really annoying! I would really appreciate it! :-) Thanks a lot!

ps-Oh and I don't know if this information could be relevent, but this does not happen when I make videos calls with skype on my iphone!

Hi guys,
I have just re-formatted my windows7 for the second time in about a week. everything is working as intended with exception to online flash videos. Youtube videos are functioning, because they are using HTML5 i suspect.
An interesting note: upon reformat and installing of my mobo drivers, i installed Avast AV and then went to animefreak.tv to check the functionality of my flash player. I was able to watch the latest episodes of Naruto Shippuden and then i got back to installing security addons for my Firefox browser. After doing this, my flash player is not opening videos on that same website i just mentioned, nor on primewire.ag (which i used without problems up until my re-format about a week ago).
I have not installed any WindowsUpdates, as right now i'm not sure that i won't re-format again to try this all over to eliminate this problem.
I am playing Star Trek Online right now, it is operating just fine, all other functions of my OS seem to be OK, just this flash video issue is all the problem that i can detect at the moment. I use my PC for browsing the web, investigating government intrusion into personal rights mainly, and also for recreation like video games and the aforementioned movie and anime viewing..
I suspect that my security addons to Firefox might be getting in the way of my flash video viewing.. I currently have 'play DRM content' disabled as snooping and tracking are my mortal enemies online..

I am curious as to what the "normal" cpu usage is for watching a video, such as a divx or xvid video, and also what the "normal" cpu usage is for watching a flash video online, on a site such as youtube.

I did some tests and found when watching an XVID video, I got the following results...

Windows Media Player 11........... 30-42%
Windows Meida Player Classic..... 27-40%
VLC......................................... 12-25%

I was interested to see how much lower the usage was with VLC - how can this be? I would think they would be using the same engine for decoding, so I can't account for this difference. It also jumped around a lot, as you can see with these wide ranges.

Then for flash videos, on you tube for example,
I got...

Firefox 3 (beta 4).......... 35-50%
IE7...............................30-45%
Opera..........................32-48%

About the same for all 3. I was wondering if this is high or considered normal.
Also something interesting to note, is that if a video is playing, but i scroll down so that the Flash "box" is no longer in viewing area (i can no longer see the video playing, only hear it), CPU usage goes down to about 18-22%. Same thing happens if I keep the video playing but just minimize the page.
I'd like to hear from anyone with the same issues, or if I am just being paranoid!

Thanks,
Tyler

Hi all,

Im new here, and I hear this is the best place to get help with my current issue. Recently I installed beta drivers from amd (14.6) and whenever I watch videos on you tube or facebook I get a bluescreen shortly after. It goes so quick that I cant really read what the problem is, but when I go check in reliability report I see this.

Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
Locale ID: 1033
Extra information about the problem
BCCode: 3b
BCP1: 00000000C0000005
BCP2: FFFFF8800F4D52EC
BCP3: FFFFF8800B231950
BCP4: 0000000000000000
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1

Now I have since changed to a different beta driver (14.7) and It wasn't happening yesterday but today Im getting blue screens again when watching videos. I am currently back on 14.4 (official release) and it hasn't happened yet although its only been a few hours. truthfully I don't even know if its the video card drivers that could be causing but its only thing I have modified on the system since the problem started.

Any help or advice you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance!

What are the brand, model, & model # of your computer or motherboard? Which audio card? Which video card? Which CPU? How much ram / memory?

When did the problem begin? What changed?

What happens if you play a music CD?

What happens if you play a song in "Sample Music" folder?

If the problem is ONLY via internet, the problem could be:

I can't get a new cpu without getting a new motherboard because of socket 7 and i can't buy a new cpu/motherboard and use my old harddrive without gettin a new harddrive and installin windows xp then transferring data(all too much stress) i jus want to watch even simple flv files without cpu usage %100... youtube videos comon.. easy enough rite? btw i have a broadband connection... even if rip straming videos in asf format cpu usage is %100... video card problem?... because i'm open to buyin a new card not nvidia.

A:Streaming Videos & other videos , CPU usage %100

on second thought even in safe mode cpu usage is %100, is direct x enabled in safe mode... now what?

i also occasionally get windows virtual memory is low i have 256 mb ram that is only recognized but why does that mean cpu usage %100?

When my computer is signed on to the default admin account, I go on line and I can't watch videos on you tube or download updates or program files anymore.

But If I switch over to the guest account or to a newly created account, then I can watch the videos. Can't figure out what went wrong with my default account. I haven't tried to download files as guest or on the new account yet.

WIN 7 SP 1 x64 / 4GB Mem / 7200 Drive / Latest drivers for 9800M GT 512mb

Program: Serato Scratch Live and Serato Video 2.4.4 x86

When playing different types of videos I get green bars on the edges after the size of a video goes smaller than the previous (1280x720 -> 640x360, 640x480->640x360, etc)... The original video would be the in size (as a green box), the new video would be overlayed on top of it as the video with a green L-shaped border.

The solution to the green bars was to FORCE RGB instead of YUV handling. Now I will not get green bars but instead the video might be slightly off-center or it will hug the top / bottom of the screen.

Additionally, when I play certain MP4 videos like one encoded with MSNV SonyPSP formats, the next MP4 video is played upside down. Until I load an HD video or something similar it will stay upside down. Then once it goes back to the right was it will be good for a while until another video may mess it up again.

I want to use FFDShow and Haali splitter but Im trying to find out why I get overlay / resize problems when playing videos in a ceratin sequence.

I almost never get this issue using windows media plyer but sometimes it happens without the green bars (black bars) and I just go in and out of full-screen and its fixed. This is very rare in WMP but common in my Serato Video

I have spent the past few days trying a ton of codec / splitter options and now I am hoping you can help me here =)

System Specs

> 2GB RAM
> 3.2 Dual Core Intel Processor

Any other info needed, please ask.
I really need to ressolve this problem.

P.S I Also tried a reformatt a few weeks ago, and it didnt solve the problem :/

A:Urgent : System uses 50% or more when playing Videos, Flash Videos, Flash Games etc

Firstly, I would think it is fine that your CPU usage goes to 50% when playing videos... it has to use some CPU power to do this. Now the lagging is another story. First off I would make sure that everything is being properly cooled. If you have not done so in a while, clean out the inside of the PC, blowing off any dust from the heatsink, graphics card, power supply etc. Also what sort of power supply do you have? I want to confirm it's adequate for the system. That brings up the question, when did this start happening and was anything hardware changed around that time?

Hey all,

So i'm having an issue with my PC, and it's been happening for quite some time: micro stuttering. My PC will just freeze for a second causing the mouse cursor to jump position. The strange thing is though, that it only does this when not much is happening on my PC. Playing a YouTube video; no stutter, playing a game; no stutter, playing music in winamp; no stutter, playing a video in VLC; no stutter, having the performance tab in the task manager open; no stutter. And so on. I get it on the desktop, when using a browser (without any form of media running in it) and in some other stuff like when using Photoshop.

Hope someone can help, looking around on the internet I can't seem to find anyone a similar problem.

Check in your Power options, your power saving plan, advanced, for Minimum CPU usage, it probably defaulted to 5% or so.

Hey guys, I can't figure this out for the life of me.

A week ago I installed my new 7800GT and everything was fine for about 10 minutes, then programs started crashing and the computer would stutter, and take forever to install small programs. I reinstalled windows XP after a "quick" NTFS format of my hard drive.

The problem was still there and the computer was barely usable. I installed my old 5600 256MB nVidia card and most of the problems went away, but not all. So I ordered a new PSU with higher amperage and wattage. That seemed to make running the 7800GT about the same stability as with my 5600 256MB.

Now I am stuck with stuttering sound and video, even though I tried two different sound cards. I have tried different drivers for my CPU, chipset, VGA, Soundcard, etc with no results.

I did have my CPU overclocked from 2.2ghz to 2.37 but Prime95 only got the temps up to 44*C after 4+hours, and the problems are there no matter what clock speed I try (within reason). Also tried memtest86 with no errors reported.

System specs:
A64 3500+ Venice
ASrock ULi Dual SATA mobo
xfx nVidia 7800GT
Rosewill 450W Dual 12V rail PSU
2GB PQI Turbo Ram
WD 250Gig + Maxtor 120Gig IDE HDs
ALC850 onboard sound or Sound Blaster Live! 5.1

Help! I hope it isn't a hardware problem.

Hi I had a quick question. I have a Blu-Ray drive and HD Monitor and good graphics card. I am able to watch Blu Rays just fine and even checking CPU usage it comes in at 50-60% percent with all of my Blu Rays.

That was until today I bought the Lord of The Rings Trilogy on Blu Ray and it maxes out the CPU Usage and causes stuttering. Is it possible that because the LOTR movies are like an hour to an hour and a half longer that my PC is just having trouble reading it? My Pc fits all of the Specs for Blu Ray playback and works fine. But the processor is a single core Celeron D 3.46 GHZ so is that to blame? I turned off my Anti-Virus protection and it still stuttered to the point of being unwatchable.

Compaq Presario Intel Celeron D 3.46GHz
Windows Vista Basic SP2
2GB Ram
120GB Hard Drive
Nvidia BFG GeForce 9500 GT 1GB PCI-E 2.0 Driver, 196.21
BFG 450 Watt Power Supply
Samsung p2250 Monitor digital driver
16X BD-ROM LG Ultra BLue
Alhena 5 Motherboard

maybe it's just a bad disc. take it back for a replacement.

I have read the other "stuttering" threads on this forum, and cannot find anything which seems completely like my problem.

This has pissed me off long enough now, and I have no idea what is causing it. Reformatted my PC recently to see if it was a software issue, and have removed PCI cards etc to nail it. Still nothing.

My computer occasionally stutters during audio playback, and this has become very irritating. My guess was that my PSU isn't powerful enough.

My main specs.

AMD Athlon 3000+ Processor
1 Gig RAM
Diamond S120 256MB DDR Radeon 9550

I was told to check out Motherboard Monitor, yet there is nothing to suggest that my PSU is not powerful enough. So onto the IRQ. Here is a screenshot from the device manager of my IRQ settings - unfortunatly this doesn't mean anything to me.

Oh, and I'm under a "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" in the main window of the Device Manager.

Any suggestions?

Having a issue with my pc and it's driving me crazy. Now and again the audio seems to stutter but at one point tonight it got worse with my mouse going kind of slow motion and my game also. I reinstalled windows yesterday as it was happening before but kind of minor then.

At one point tonight I updated the gfx and audio driver and it seemed to fix the issue but the sound stutters just started to happen again .

Any ideas what I could try next? Thanks in advance

Hello,

Ok, so i installed Dragon Age: Origins, got the latest drivers and all that. Game runs fine at around 60 fps with only 1 weird problem...
Every second of gameplay has a small freeze of 0.2 sec ... so imagine what i`m getting here. All i can find about this kind of stuttering si that it happenes on SLI/X-Fire configurations but i run a single 4850 from HIS.

Tried drivers from 9.6 to 9.11 beta drivers.
PC:

Athlon II x2 240 3.2Ghz
His iceq4 4850 512mb
4x1gb Corsair
M2N-e mobo

Anything to help out will do. PC is very cool, nothing overheating.
All latest drivers and even tried old ones.
FPS does NOT drop to 0 or 1 or whatever when that small freeze happenes, but it does drop fast from lets say 56 to 55, all i`m seeing actually is the fps returning to normal to 56. This is an example. Btw when that freeze happenes the gameplay, actions etc continue to happen, Lets if i was about to give final blow to a monster and that micro stutter happenes, when its finished the creep is dead. So its not an engine freeze or anything else.

also tried different sound drivers, still no succes.

In the end i did a clean install of Windows7 x64, latest ati and mobo drivers and then i installed Dragon Age and the same thing happenes.

help...

A:Stuttering every 1 second

That's odd. The only stuttering I've noticed is from (I assume) the frame rate dropping due to lots of open programs. I close them down, and it goes away.

Maybe try these drivers if they're compatible with your card?
Driver Packaging Version 8.661-090923a1-083743C-ATI
Catalyst™ Version 09.10

Those work for me with an ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB card and a much older system than yours. Also Win7 64 (home premium).
